Snowbound in a cabin with fifteen years of broken pieces between them.
All Cami wanted was a Christmas spent with family and friends. Instead, she got a blast from her past when Weston James strolled into her store. Seeing him again stoked the fire in her that hadn’t extinguished in all those years. Still, he was the man who broke her heart.
But, one accident would change everything.
West wasn't the same man he used to be. He left Cami standing on that porch fifteen years ago, a mistake of a lifetime. Hardened by life, there was no way he could ever be the man she deserved, but after one Christmas weekend with her back in his arms, that’s the only thing he wanted to be.
All he had to do was piece together the heart he’d broken.
Trapped together in Cami’s cabin, the pair are forced to face their pasts in order to find where their future lies.
A sweet, sexy and emotional second chance romance between Cami and Weston. My heart broke for Weston through this story but warmed to see the underlying connection he had with Cami. Her strength and heart was one I wholeheartedly admired not just when it comes to Weston but as she seemed to approach her life in general. These two had me completely enthralled and rooting for them from page one.
If you’re looking for a quick but emotional read, look no further. Paranormal romance author K.M. Rives has branched out as Kay Rives with a new contemporary romance, a Christmas novella titled Finally Home.
To be honest, I wasn’t expecting this much of a gut-wrenching story out of a Christmas novella, but I should have known better considering how many twists and turns Rives had woven into book 1 of her paranormal romance The Replacement earlier this year.
Of course, the appropriate amount of swoon and sexy times definitely make this book a must read, but what I love about this author is her ability to really get the reader invested in the lives of the characters.
Rives paints pictures with her pages, the description of the surroundings, the tangible quality of the interactions between the characters as well as the environment – while you are reading, it’s almost as if you are watching a well-produced film or are a bystander in the story.
In Finally Home, I could almost feel the chill of the snow on my skin, felt the fear and adrenaline from the characters during a particularly stressful scene, could imagine what Cami’s home would look like and feel the textures of her belongings.
In only twelve chapters, Rives weaves a tale of heartbreak, regret, forgiveness and redemption. I actually finished the book in under an hour and wished it was bit longer, which I think is always a good thing when you find an author who tells a story so well, you don’t want it to end.
I can’t wait to see what other contemporary romance stories will be released by this author – I’m already hooked!
“She deserved to be happy. Even if it wasn’t with him. But damn if a small part of him didn’t want to be the man who gave her that life. It was always suppose to be him.”
Fifteen years ago West left Cami to join the Air Force so he could help support his family. He went on with his life while Cami tried to move on with hers, but she never quite got over him. Now West is back and Cami is trying to keep her heart from being broken again.
This is a second chance romance and let me tell you the angst in this book is real! I don’t think that I’ve ever read a book this short, with the much angst. But it’s all so completely understandable. West absolutely broke Cami’s heart when he left 15 years ago and she never got over him. The thing is he never got over her either and boy did he go through some shit over the years. Most of this novella is so heart breaking because you can feel Cami’s pain when it comes to West, and you can feel West’s pain that comes from his past. Like I said, angst. That’s not to say that there aren’t some moments of levity in the story because there definitely is, and some of it comes in the form of meddling mothers. West’s mom cracks me up with her meddling, but you can tell that it comes from a place of love.
This book was heartbreaking but also hopeful and I loved every minute of it. I’m definitely going to be checking out more of this authors work because I absolutely loved this book.
“It wasn’t that she didn’t want him to do these things. She did. But she also learned that man could want to do these things and still walk away. And that’s what terrified her the most. She wasn’t sure she could survive if he walked away again.”
This is one of my favorite holiday reads ever! Cami is living a quiet life in Aspen, almost spinning her wheels and stuck in one place. Until one evening, her high school boyfriend reappears. She hasn't seen him in years, but he still looks amazing.
Winter weather does its thing, and the next thing they know, they're stranded together. He's suffering minor injuries and she's wondering what's going on in his mind. She can't understand what's troubling him so much to cause nightmares and flashbacks.
The chemistry between Cami and West is palpable and absolutely organic and believable. Their love for one another shines through, even when they're trying to fight it. This novel was impossible to put down. The story flowed well and Rives has a way with words that keeps you wanting to live in the world she's created even after you've finished the story.
You know the drill: it’s a novella, so I can’t overly go into plot. Cami‘s mom is pushing her to settle down, but she’s only ever had eyes for one man - West, the ex boyfriend who left her for a military career and never looked back. When West walks into her convenience store fifteen years after their breakup, Cami is determined not to let old feelings flare up. But when unavoidable situations force them to spend Christmas together, Cami finds it harder and harder to keep her feelings for West at Bay. Can these two have a second chance at love? Find out in “Finally Home,” a Christmas romance novella by Kay Rives!
Rives always stuns me with her writing, but this novella was truly amazing! She captivates the reader from page one, and you get drawn into the little town of Aspen and start rooting for West and Cami. I loved it, and 100% recommend this novella!
Christmas is my favorite holiday and I am loving all the feels I got with this second chance Christmas novella. Finally Home has all the Hallmark Christmas Movie feels, with all the spice they are not allowed to show on TV. I am SO in love with Cami and West!! The push and pull between them, caused by unresolved feelings of the previous 15 years, was fun and exciting. So was getting to follow them along on their journey to healing each other’s hearts and mending old wounds. This novella has it all – old friends/lovers stuck on a snow filled mountain in a cozy cabin, some heartache, a little psycho ex thrown in but most of all, it had the second chance romance and a HEA. If you need to escape the heat of this summer and want to dive into a Christmas love story, this one’s for you!!
Cami and West’s story is absolutely amazing! I love a great Christmas romance story! And this was so perfectly written!
The angst between Cami and West was so fun and entertaining to read. These two have history. Unfortunately the first time around it didn’t work out. Years later and lots of heartbreak in between they are put back together in an unconventional and meddling (by their families) type of way.
The story was amazing and I didn’t want it to end. I wanted to so much more from Cami and West. This is an amazing must read beautiful second chance love story! I highly recommend.
