They fell hard. But danger doesn’t take a break for love.
Camilla is finally ready to open her heart—and Nick is the last person she expected to fall for. Mysterious, protective, and carrying a weight he won’t explain, Nick has tried to keep his distance. But once he lets Camilla in, there's no turning back.
When threats from a long-time enemy begin to escalate, Nick confesses the truth—and the risk. Against his better judgment, Camilla stays by his side. But when the danger hits too close to home, she gives Nick an ultimatum: reach out to the family he walked away from, or lose her.
What happens next rips them apart.
Sent away for her own safety, Camilla finds herself in a new town—and in the company of someone she never expected to care about.
A heart-pounding romantic suspense about trust, sacrifice, and the messy, complicated choice between the heart or safety.
I don't know why I hadn't heard about this book until I saw Natalie Allen post about it on her Instagram page. I jumped at the chance to read it because it sounded and intriguing and lets just say it did not disappoint.
Camilla has been through a lot over the last year with loosing her husband and dealing with the emotional turmoil that follows. She's grown through the hard times and that growth surprises even herself in a bold moment where she finds herself sitting across the table from a very handsome man, Nick. And from there on out...you guys, it is a book full of mystery, falling in love and more!
I appreciate reading the emotions that Camilla goes through in this story. They are very real and that helps a reader understand where she is coming from. Nick is a more closed off character and you will want to keep reading to find out more. As you read you do and by the end of the book, without spoiling anything, you just want the two of them to be happy. I can't wait to read book two in the series and find out where their story takes them because that is not the end! Such an emotional ending that will pull at your heart strings. Thank goodness there's more books to come.
This was a fun read from Natalie Allen for all those contemporary romance, mystery readers out there. Content: This is a clean romance, it does go into detail a bit with their making out, and they do hangout in bed together discussing taking things to the next level in their relationship. I appreciate that they don't though as I only read clean romance books. Overall, great read full of heart warming, heart wrenching and suspenseful events. I couldn't put the book down and can't wait to start book two.
*I received a complimentary copy from the publishers, publicists, and/or authors. A review was not required and all opinions are my own.
This book was a wild ride for sure. I had a hard time putting it down wanting to know what would happen. There were some repetitive phrases that I thought were unnecessary. And the romance is insta love which isn’t my favorite but it was well done. Definitely will be reading more as I need to know what happens.
Content: lots of kissing. Some steamy make out scenes but clean and nothing inappropriate. Triggers: death of a loved one. Kidnapping
Thank you to the author for a copy of the book in exchange for a review.
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars —————————————————————————————————————————————- Story Notes
Natalie’s first book in the Ludlow series will draw you in and keep you reading until you finish the last page......then you’ll have to seek out the next one ASAP!!
This was my first foray into Natalie’s books and I have to say I’m quite hooked. The story begins with Camilla, a Widow of just over a year, who is supposed to meet her sister for lunch. When her nephew unexpectedly gets sick right before, Camilla is left on her own and in a very out of character move, she asks the group of men waiting for their table if any of them would like to have lunch with her instead. The handsome younger member of the group accepts and though cautious about this stranger, Camilla is glad to not have to eat alone. Thus begins a whirlwind romance that leaves Camilla excited about the future. Nick is handsome and incredibly kind and considerate to her, plus he makes her smile like she hasn’t in over a year. But there’s something that Nick isn’t telling her and it hangs over their relationship like a specter. What does the past have hidden that is coming for Nick and Camilla and their new love? Can they stay safe in the the face of danger or will it spell the end of their future before it truly begins? This was both an interesting and engaging read for me. I really liked the pacing of the story and the characters that seemed realistic. I will say the relationship moved a bit fast for me and I was a bit uncomfortable with the sleeping in the same bed stuff. Nothing super inappropriate happened but it was more physical than most books I like to read. Everything stayed clean but the temptations were there, making me wish that they had been more hands-off. But the rest of the story was really lovely and I loved the addition of the “mystery “ of what was coming from Nick’s past. Ted might be one of my favorite side characters ever (muffins?). And though I’m not a fan of cliffhanger endings, I think this will work well for this series. I’m excited to see what will happen next with this love story, given Camilla is hiding away. But Nick really has to stop telling her she “ is so sweet” as it’s bugging me, haha! I feel like she’s going to show him she’s not as sweet as he seems to believe she is....like she’s going to kick someone’s butt or something soon. Now I’m off to the next book!
I received this temporary complimentary Ebook from Natalie’s Novels via Kindle books. I am not required by anyone to provide a review but am pleased to do so. I will receive no fiscal compensation for this review and the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.
Ludlow by Natalie Allen is a contemporary romance with a billionaire trope.
I honestly struggled with this book. It started out so good! I think the story has a lot of potential, but it fell short for me. I liked how charming Nick was and how quickly he and Camilla connected. I liked the idea of a second chance romance for Camilla after she lost her husband. I liked the obvious chemistry between Nick and Camilla, but about halfway through I lost interest. I think the main reason I lost interest is because the more I got to know Nick and Camilla the less I liked them. I had a really hard time connecting with them.
I didn’t like how Camilla and Nick kept ditching work and never seemed to have any consequences. It seemed really irresponsible and unrealistic. I also didn’t like how they seemed to do the same handful of activities throughout the book. They would either go out to eat, snuggle in bed, make out with each other, or go to some place that Nick owned. I love kissing scenes, but there is such thing as too much kissing. There were so many kissing scenes that I lost interest. I would still call this story clean, there is no explicit content, the characters do sleep in the same bed, but they do not have sex. They obviously have chemistry but the on the page content is clean.
I also didn’t care for the suspenseful aspect of the plot. Honestly I didn’t find it suspenseful. I’m not exactly sure who the villain is or what his motive is. It wasn’t very clear to me and I didn’t feel like the villain was actually a threat. So when the confrontation between the villain and the main characters happened it seemed anticlimactic. Also, because I didn’t connect with the characters beforehand, I didn’t really worry about what would happen to them. This lack of connection also made the ending weird for me. I get that it is supposed to be a bit of a heart-wrenching cliff hanger to make you want to read the second book, but I found it to be pathetic.
Lastly, the timeline was way too fast for me. I liked that Nick and Camilla connected pretty quickly, but their relationship seemed to progress a lot faster than it should have in the handful of days they were together. It seems like this entire book happens over the course of a couple of weeks, and it just didn’t seem realistic to me.
Overall I think the writing style just isn’t for me. I really liked the beginning and had high hopes for this story, but I didn’t connect with the characters, I didn’t really understand the main plot conflict, and I have issues with the timeline. I think the author did try to make the characters deep and relatable but I wasn’t able to relate. For an indie published book, it has potential, it’s just not for me.
If you enjoy contemporary billionaire and second chance romance tropes with some suspense, lots of kissing scenes, and instant love you may very well enjoy Ludlow.
🤍"Some books you read, some books you enjoy. But, some books just swallow you up heart and soul" and Ludlow is one kind of those books. I ended this book with heavy heart and watery eyes.
🤍Camilia was suffering past 1 year from her husband's death and it was the first death anniversary of her husband when she met Nicholas Ludlow, a caring, handsome and a sweet guy. She felt a strong connection meeting him and felt the urge to meet him constantly. Suddenly, her father broke the news to her and Jacqui that he is leaving the state. This left both the sisters in utter shock, but they had no option rather accepting the reality.
🤍On the other hand, Nick returning from a long hectic weekend and the thought of meeting each other made them excited. Was it love blooming between them? Camilia get to know that it was not safe for her to be with Nick as he had told him that an old acquaintance of him was trying to get to him and his family to harm them. Unfortunately, what Nick was afraid of, happened. The danger inevitably catches up with the love of his life, causing him to second guesses everything. He loved Camilia but did not want to risk her life.
❔❔❔ What would they do? Did they stay together and tackle everything? or Camilia get separated for saving her own life?
Riffle through the book to know what was their fate.
🤍Such a heartfelt story! I wanted it to never end, but the good news is Book 2 "Towers" is releasing on 1st July 2021 and I'll be reviewing it on my profile as well, so excited! I was glued to the book right from the beginning and was guessing the next moves, but failed at times. You cannot predict "What happens next" and I feel that's the best part.
Started this series, and I can tell it's going to be good. Romance, suspense and Natalie brings the chemistry (but it's still pretty clean). Can't wait for book 2..
This book kept me drawn in throughout the entire story! I loved that's its a romance mixed with a little mystery! It keeps you guessing and wanting to read more! Can't wait to start book number 2!!
