Fabien Cousteau and two junior explorers embark on a mission to rescue endangered sea turtles in the coral reefs of Maui, Hawai’i, in this next brightly illustrated installment of the Fabien Cousteau Expeditions graphic novel series.

Fabien Cousteau came to Maui, Hawai’i for a vacation, but when he hears that endangered sea turtles are in trouble, he knows he has to help! Junior explorers Baylor and Bianca join Fabien and local conservationists on their mission to rescue these turtles from ghost nets—fishing nets that have been left adrift in the ocean and tangle up anything that strays into their path. During their dive, they’ll also encounter sharks, humpback whales, dolphins, seals, eagle rays, octopi, and the vibrant variety of wildlife that lives among the coral reefs of Molokini Bay. Can the team save these injured turtles in time?

Strong graphic novel with hybrid of fiction and nonfiction information. I learned much about sea turtles, ghost nets, and the impact of plastic on marine sea life while trying to rescue sea turtles and being chased by sharks. The words contain much nonfiction info, while the images depict a fast-paced, fictional adventure in sea rescue.

I hope to read more in this series.

Hawaii Sea Turtle Rescue is a fictional work based on actual expedition.

Sea turtles are endangered. Sharks kill many of them and mankind hunted them to near extinction for the turtle's shell, but the biggest threat to sea turtles is the existence of ghost nets,ngled in one, they cannot surface for air. The grandson of Jacques Cousteau, Fabian Cousteau continues his grandfather's legacy to study, record and save marine life.

Junior Expeditioners Bianca and Baylor join a sea turtle rescue team to locate a giant ghost net and make sure no other sea turtles or other animals are caught in it. Colorful illustrations bring this story to life in an easy graphic novel and reluctant readers will be caught up in the story. The graphic novel format helps struggling readers and will keep them turning pages.

An enjoyable story with facts about the ocean, coral reefs, man's danger to the oceans, and ways we can all help save our ecosystem. The oceans are "...our planet's life-support system," which is a fact every human needs to know and respect. Endangering the oceans is endangering ourselves.

Highly recommended for non-fiction readers, graphic novel fans and especially future marine biologists and everyone who chooses to save our planet. Grades 4-8.

This is a solid graphic novel. Technically there is a story here that has some adventure, but at least to me the heart of it is the nonfiction information about sea turtles and their environment. A lot of information on the dangers facing turtles, along with a host of other ocean animals is covered. The art is energetic and reminds me of old school comics I read as a child. A fun story that is perfect for ocean enthusiasts.

While it is a little heavy on the "preachy side" of talking about environmentalism, it is a great reminder for what we can and should be doing. Bold and bright images and heavy on conversation text, the story and facts are side-by-side as we explore Hawaii and the wildlife that lives there.

such a cute educational graphic novel about a sea turtle rescue in Hawaii! packed with lots of great info about ocean life, sustainability, and diving. the story kept me entertained while teaching me quite a bit, and the illustrations were gorgeous! what a treat. 🐢

I love all things sea turtle and this cover had me very intrigued. Suitable for grades 3+, this book is about two young divers who are tasked with helping Fabien Cousteau find a reported ghost net. There are many concepts taught and vocabulary words covered all masked to help the narrative. Along the adventure to find this ghost net and free any sea turtles kept inside, we learn so much about this habitat. I really enjoyed this graphic novel and feel excited to recommend it to other sea turtle lovers!
