Tim Rayborn is a historian, medievalist, and musician, with an MA and PhD from the University of Leeds in England. He is a writer on a variety of topics in history and the arts, from the academic to the amusing to the appalling. He has written nearly 50 books to date.

A professional musician with a specialty in medieval repertoire, he plays dozens of musical instruments, has appeared on more than 40 recordings, and has performed in the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia.

From the most unassuming object like the paperclip to the most silly toy like the Slinky, Tim Rayborn gives us the unbiased history of how each object was invented. The author even gives us a peek into how the ancient humans used particular things and how we have adapted it to help us navigate our world. From the umbrella that we use every day to the computers and internet that we cannot live without, you get an insight into the inventor, their competitors and their friends in a very fun and casual-conversation sort of style. You can open the book at any page and find trivia that you can whip up to impress people at parties. This is a must-read for history-buffs or anyone with a curious mind.
