Discover the joy—and health benefits—of walking and seeing the natural world.
In this delightful guide, Alice Peck explains how, rather than simply providing a way of getting from one place to another, the simple practice of walking can have huge benefits for us, both physically and mentally, from aging more slowly to sparking creativity. When we walk mindfully, we can reconnect with our body and the earth beneath our feet and discover a sense of calm. Walking outside also offers us a chance to be in nature, which improves our health and wellbeing, evokes awe, and nurtures our soul. With inspiration for ways to walk, including forest-bathing (strolling through trees and wooded areas), earthing (walking barefoot in the mud), embracing friluftsliv— the Norwegian philosophy of enjoying the outdoors, and even a trip round the block, as well as easy meditations to try, Mindful Walking will soon get you on your feet and out of the house to enjoy the healing effects of taking a walk.
Drawn to finding the sacred in everyday things, Alice is the author of five books: Be More Tree; Mindful Beads; The Secret Language of Herbs; Bread, Body, Spirit; and Next to Godliness.
With Chris Grosso she cowrote Dead Set on Living—Making the Difficult but Beautiful Journey from F#*king Up to Waking Up. Her writing has appeared in Center for Humans & Nature, Spirituality & Health, Daily Good, and The Mountain Record. As an editor, she focuses on creativity, mind, and spirit, collaborating with spiritual teachers, psychotherapists, meditation instructors, and authors of all sorts.
Interesting little book to help you make the most out of life - practise mindfulness, enjoy time outside to improve your health, observe nature, live mindfully. In essence pay attention to the things we often forget to do (or don't have time for) in modern society but which we need to make time for, for the sake of our health.
Interesting little book. I liked the pictures and the quotes and it served as a good reminder! I had no idea that camphor and rose essential oils existed so I’m ordering some for myself from Amazon!
