Shirayuki is an herbalist famous for her naturally bright-red hair, and the prince of Tanbarun wants her all to himself! The prince from the neighboring kingdom, Zen, rescues her from her plight, and thus begins their love story.
In order to reclaim the power his northern clan once held, Toka Bergat has attacked Sereg Knight Base. Zen is ready to fight back, but Toka is clearly out for blood and the prince’s head! Meanwhile, Kiki and Obi have saved Tsuruba from certain doom, and all three are racing back to the base!
Such an intense ending to this plot and really well done! I was confused a couple of times as to who was talking and what was going on in some of the panels, but it was still well told and wrapped up nicely.
I was prepared to give this volume a 4 star, but then I got to the end and there was a suggestive implication/comment made about why two guys had been late to get up in the morning made by the GIRLFRIEND of one of the guys, and I was just like really?!?!?! We don’t need that in the slightest! Nothing of course happened, but the comment itself just left a bad taste in my mouth and dropped my rating.
‼️Content‼️
Language: damn
Violence: sword fights (nothing over PG-13); injuries and blood (nothing over PG-13)
Sexual: kissing; mild suggestive comments
Drug/Alcohol: characters are knocked out and weakened by a drug; a character tries to drink poison (is stopped)
This gives a hopeful ending for the Berget family, and sets up some cute time with Zen and Shirayuki. These last few volumes have been very action packed, but it will be nice to have some calm times in following volumes.
Loved, loved, loved this volume! Zen's princeliness (definitely not a real word) shines through this volume plus we get to see the aides in action! And the meeting between Zen and Shirayuki after the fight, I teared up. It was so bittersweet :(
Zen and the Bergat twins are up against it when the head of the Bergats, Toka, decides to reclaim the North by installing a new head, but only after removing Zen’s. Then everybody is reunited and we get a reminder of why this series is good.
Not a bad story, this. I am enough of a lazy butt to quickly rehash my issues with the mangaka’s generally underwhelming staging of action sequences, but the plot and such flows nicely and there’s good villainous intent to it all. This whole plan came together pretty quick in some respects, but I can accept it.
This is, after all, fairy tale adjacent and not meant to be a simulacrum of medieval life, which is why everybody always looks spectacular and villains are going to reveal themselves dramatically and do dramatic things and such. Last minute heroics and perfectly timed arrivals might be cliché, but on the other hand, you’d miss them if they didn’t occur.
It’s all wrapped up with suitable bombast and well-learned lessons and morals, just in time for the book to do what it’s best at - having all our leads bounce off one another. I mean, we’re still dragging out that Kiki and Mitsuhide pairing a little longer, but they have at least one moment.
Honestly, this really kicks into the good stuff when Zen and Shirayuki reunite after all this and it’s pretty much a Moment and I am a massive sucker for well done moments. This one section’s drawn better than any action sequence and is romantic as heck. It really sells both the weight of their separation and their feelings in one swoop.
All in all, a solid outing. The bulk of the story is certainly the whole sneak attack/coup and the fallout thereof, but the line running through it and the aftermath is solid characterization. That’s something that has never let this series down - bringing the core cast together and just letting them be.
4 stars - hey, look, I’m a big enough softy that the reunion of Zen and Shirayuki got me right in the feels. Toss in a relatively decent resolution to the attempted coup and you have a stronger than usual volume for the later stages of this series.
"No. You WILL fail. But as long as you've got people to point out when and how you fail you won't keep failing for long."
If I could give this volume a glowing 10 stars, I definitely would! What an amazing and powerful and beautiful volume! And an emotional one too! Ha!
The fierceness of the battle and everything that takes place was INTENSE! Everything had me zoning in what was happening and what people were saying. I felt completely teleported from my spot on the couch and thrust into this battle!
And not just that battle, but the aftermath too! I think the most intense expression in this volume was King Izana's because even I shuddered in my seat. Toka definitely messed with the wrong family, though those twins. *sobs* I am SO thankful that Zen was there and admire how he treated them and how saw light on their paths even if it was just faintly in that moment. This was another time when I felt like Zen spoke such wise and uplifting words to them that gave them hope to move forward. Truly, everything surrounding this arc has been very emotional, and feel like everything and everyone leveled up so to speak. (Goodness I know seeing Mitsuhide's anger was also shuddering too for the same reason as King Izana's expression!)
I was thankful for the reunion of all our fellow characters, but when Shirayuki and Zen reunited, I confess I cried. Those panels were so beautifully drawn with so much emotion that even now it gives me goosebumps. And Zen's smile!! It was so beautiful that I definitely wish I could have "commission a painting"! LOL!
The last chapter of this volume was really wonderful! I'm glad that it was so relaxing and chill and just fun too. These characters SO desperately needed it and know I needed it too! LOL! It was wonderful seeing all the aides together and enjoying each other's company, though I particularly love seeing Obi saying that he should have said it's good to be back when recapping about a certain moment. My how he has grown! <3
I'm excited for what's to come!! I feel it's going to be good things with not nearly as much worry and intensity as the last two volumes have been even though they were VERY good!
I enjoyed having a little more action in this volume! While I don't mind the series being more laid-back overall, I have to admit that the moments of adventure are always my favorite. Speaking of favorites, Mitsuhide is just... one of the best characters in this series, okay? He is, and that's that. I liked the twins more than I expected to. I hope they make another appearance!
Incredible pacing in this volume. I closed the book and stared at the cover thinking, “That was this book? So much happened I thought I had moved onto another volume.”
This is such a calming laid-back manga. All the characters are likable. This volume made me happy because Zen and Shirayuki got to see each other for the first time in a while. Which was very much needed after the attempt on Zen's life in the previous volume. This manga doesn't have as many "exciting" moments as other manga I've read, so I find it difficult to find things to talk about beyond how calming I find this story.
Wow! Couldn’t tell you which T (insert name) went with which character. However, the twin brothers are good T (insert name) and the older brother is bad T (insert name). At least, I hope the twin brothers will be good, but only time will tell….
Also, I so totally teared up while reading this one. I swear…. These are not just characters on a piece of paper. I wish more of this manga would be adapted into an anime because the story and characters are so interesting.
I really enjoyed this volume and the last. The mysterious plot involving Kiki and the Bergatt twins serving as Sereg royal knights comes to a close, the group returns to Wistal and are granted a short reprieve from work from King Izana, and Zen and Shirayuki are finally able to see each other after a long time. I really enjoy the sweet moments, but I'm hoping there are more action based happenings like these last two volumes in the future.
I love this... I love the story, i love the unique characters of this story, i love isit lot, i love each and every about the story .. lovely The best romantic story in planet... It's just amazing... I watched the anime version but it only have 2 seasons...i request the creator to continue the story.. please... Anime is the best way to feel the story.... Please continue the story i request you...
So Count Toka Bergat got the Lion King speech of "everything the light touches is yours" which led to him murdering his father, claiming the lordship, and setting in motion a plan to take back the northern territories. That plan obviously backfires.
Then there's a lovely moment where Shirayuki and Zen reunite and it's super cute. I will say, I get sooo confused with the location changes. Wistal Palace, Wirant, Lilias... I need a map and at least a little box telling me when the story magically teleports me to a different location. Please?
I really enjoyed this arc. The drama of the mystery and the action felt like a change of pace for the series overall and it seems like the characters are really growing up in some big ways. I will say that some of the action panels were a little hard to follow, particularly with the twins and matching dialog to characters in those scenes, so knocking a star for that, but overall very good.
Watched the anime and knew that the story continued in the manga. It's light fluff. I know that the premise requires Shirayuki and Zen to be together but it would have been more interesting to me if along the way they realized that they are better as supportive friends and she ended up with Obi. Also, she just utters "Zen" way too often.
okay yeah 4 stars for the obi x shirayuki moment because that was EVERYTHING but the story is kind of petering out and im also just torturing myself at this point with my second-lead syndrome so i think im gonna drop the series here. Started off incredible but it's just being prolonged at this point and i found out there're still like 8 more volumes so imma take my leave
I still love this story so much, when when the main two arnt together giving me a full heart and happy smile it's still great seeing the story build and build. After the way thos volume eneded I'm curious at what is next for the group!
I admit that I now buy it more for the art than the story. But the Bergat saga was more compelling. The chapter covers are beautiful. It would be nice to see them in color. Will the next volume start a new arc? I hope it will be cool.
This was an entertaining segue kind of volume. Events were full of action, intrigue, and emotion on the previous couple of volumes, and this one saw a bit of a calming time begin for everyone. On to volume 19!
