When feisty college student Yuri is attacked at a party, she’s saved by Toshiomi Oya, the underboss of a yakuza syndicate. Despite her obvious attraction to him, she convinces herself that she’s not in the market for a bad boy type. But when they meet again, she finds herself irresistibly drawn to him—kicking off a steamy and dangerous love affair that threatens to consume her, body and soul.
Yuri and Oya’s relationship faces complications when Oya’s father, the boss of the syndicate, issues a warning to Yuri, demanding she cut ties with Oya and the yakuza. When Oya finds out, the situation becomes charged. Meanwhile, a mysterious woman enters the fray, soon to add new challenges to the star-crossed couple’s growing love.
Definitely better than the last volume, this one includes a bit of actual plot in the form of Oya's dad warning the happy couple apart and a lady who's got the hots for Oya ready to make her move. Now that I write this, it's a bit sad that that counts as plot, but I appreciate the effort.
Finally getting back to this series and I'm enjoying it still! I feel like I always have to put the disclaimer that I wouldn't support this kind of relationship in real life, which is true, so there's the disclaimer. Anyway, I liked seeing Yuri and Oya celebrate Christmas! It was cute!
Loved that we actually got some plot in this volume compared to the previous ones. Now that we have solidly established the couple, it's time to deal with the Yakuza side of things.
One of my favorite ongoing manga and this volume was no exception. I adore these characters and their relationship. It's so cute and honestly it's pretty well balanced.
I think introducing mob boss dad is going to shake up their relationship in the future and I'm looking forward to seeing that dynamic and how it goes.

Today’s post is on Yakuza Lover, Vol. 4 by Nozomi Mino. It is 176 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover has the two main characters in an embrace. As it is the fourth in the series you need to have read the first three volumes. There is mild foul language, sex and sexuality, and mild violence in this manga. The intended reader is someone who likes josei manga, adult themes, and complicated love stories. The story is told from third person close of the main character, Yuri. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the book- Yuri and Oya’s relationship faces complications when Oya’s father, the boss of the syndicate, issues a warning to Yuri, demanding she cut ties with Oya and the yakuza. When Oya finds out, the situation turns explosive. Meanwhile, a mysterious woman enters the fray, adding brand-new challenges to the star-crossed couple’s growing love.
Review- Most of this volume is fluff with some plot threads being put out there. Yuri meets Oya’s father and the boss of the family. She impresses him with her bravery and loyalty to Oya. Then the story jumps to an unknown woman who wants Oya for herself. But the rest of the volume is Yuri and Oya being together and having fun both in and out of bed. I like to see that Yuri is having her own life outside of Oya and their relationship, yes she does think about it and plan for how it will effect her life but Yuri is doing the things she wants. She is not just waiting for Oya to call, she has friends, school, and a job. I look forward to seeing what is going to happen next.
I give this book a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Love, luxury, beautiful art, and sex with a hot and sweet yakuza boyfriend, episode 185. But make it the Christmas version. 🤣🤣🤣 Gave this five stars because after Book 3, I dropped my expectations, and the book met me exactly where I landed. So I wasn’t disappointed, I got exactly what I knew I’d get (and the Christmas context was cute), and I tried to not hold onto the promising plot elements in the story. Failed on the latter, but I continue to be surprised by a) how the author seems to know exactly what gets us hooked (plot wise), but b) seems to say, “you know that plot I mentioned on page 20 something? Yeah… fuck the plot. Have some luxurious food and sex instead”. every. Single. Time. Again, I love a good crime drama, so the plot tease had me wanting some kind of resolution, and again, I was left hungry on that level. But the cute Christmas josei fantasy? Delivered. So five stars. Will read the next volume soon.
I took a break from this series, but as I was going through my paperbacks, I realized I had most of books in the series and I should get back into it.
I'm glad I took a break, because I forgot how cute The Yakuza Lover is. It's an easy sort of slice of life smutty romance. This one isn't as graphic or steamy as the previous ones and that's okay. I enjoyed the Christmas Day episode and it looks like Yuri is standing up for herself more, which is good!
It's a little sad they only see each other every once in awhile, but I curious what will happen if they ever get married or even have kids!
I can positively say every book that I pick up from this series I’m a little more happy with than the last one. It is a 12 volume series and I am so proud that I’ve gotten through a third of it already. It’s such a quick read, and I wish I had more copies of it. As soon as I get paid, I will probably buy more because this series is so good. I love the relationship between the two main characters, the artwork that is done in the storyline that has been told. Obviously, I really hope that is going to have a happy ending because I am waiting for them!
There were a lot of cute and sweet moments! Like Yuri cooking for Oya and making sure everything looked beautiful. The snowman was another cute scene! Yuri is so strong and feisty. It was fun seeing her defend her friend and teaching that other bad guy a lesson! The romance still feels emotionally deep and their connection feels genuine despite the Insta love thing. There were still some awkward and cringy moments though. I just skimmed/skipped whatever was too awkward. The meowing was too silly. Not a fan of that lol. Still it was a fun volume and it was cute.
3.5* I’m gonna be honest. This series gets worse as it goes. The story is stagnant. The volumes just keep getting smaller and smaller. A new rival woman appeared for two pages and then it dropped off. There is no character development. The art can be drop dead gorgeous or just Yuri with her mouth open for 90% of the pages. HOWEVER I will continue to buy them. They are a guilty pleasure in terms of the smut. Just DO NOT go into this expecting anything of substance.
some actual plot progression and character development in this one...I'm interested to see where the issue with oya's dad (yakuza head boss) goes, plus we have a new femme fatale who seems to be the next wedge attempting to get between the main couple. speaking of them, oya and yuri have a SUPER adorable xmas together that actually was so sweet. I really enjoyed that bit!! I'm such a sucker for overly sweet romantic bits (≧◡≦) ♡

Five stars for the smutty delights, Oya and Yuri being unable to even throw a snowball at each other and opt for building a snowman instead on Christmas (you could say I read this during the wrong season, but hey, I'm also on Ice Guy and the Cool Girl for the foreseeable future so... "correct" seasons be damned!)!
Yeah, it's over the top cheese, but hey, I'm in for penny, in for a pound, people😉.
The growing love continues between Yuri and Oya in this one. Oya's father wants Yuri to stop dating Oya, and tells her upon their 1st meeting. She of course says she will continue being with him and Oya shows up. He basically tells his dad to mind his business. Oya and Yuri spend Christmas together and Yuri cooks for Oya. They are both just so sweet with each other in this.
I was going to give this a 4 because the first story arc was interesting, we met the Oya Syndicate Boss, and he wants the couple to break ties, obviously. I'm looking forward to seeing some actual story, but then it goes into Christmas sex story and that's fine but I want some substance with my smutnat this point.
This one was less erotic than the previous ones, but it didn't reduce my enjoyment of it. I liked seeing the FLC show that she was trying to improve her "weaknesses" to be the best for Oya. I didn't like so much that it was out of fear of making Oya upset more so than just because she's in a dangerous world now so needs to be better at this kinda thing. Sometimes I think she is too dumb to survive this world they live in, tho I think they call it reckless in this book. However, I love that she proved that she's thinking about what she wants in the relationship and how she can be of use in more ways than just in the bedroom or his calming "tonic" he likes to protect. Overall I liked it enough to want to continue on in the series
The volume introduces additional players from the Yakuza world. Love the couple's romance and steam, but I'm going to need the college age heroine to act more her age. Still enjoying the series and already pre-ordered the next volume.
Great but ends too fast! Spicy and sexy and I love Oya so much! He's cute when he wants to be but is also seriously bad to the bone! I love the story and I can't wait for more!
This series is really dragging its feet. The plot could be interesting, but you really only get about 2 chapters of plot, and then the other 70% is mediocre softcore smut. I want to like this series as much as I was hoping I would but maybe this just isn't the series that's gonna do that.
Overall this series is still holding my interest. Enjoyed the new characters introduced and teased. This volume got 4 stars because I’m a sucker for Christmas themed chapters and the spicy parts were extra fun. Will for sure be reading the next volume.
It was really apparent this was just a for fun, unplanned fluffy kind of story from the beginning, but it's starting to wear out its welcome on my shelf. Wish it had an actual over arching plot, because the characters are cute and the fantasy of its romance is fun.
Like I said on volume three, this is such a guilty pleasure for me. It is a story I read way too fast. It is mostly just smut but there was so more plot in this volume than last. I have enjoyed both but if you are looking for a lot of plot, you will probably be disappointed. I'm loving it though.
