Tatsu is tasked with squeezing the locals for money owed to the association—the neighborhood association, that is. But when the former gangster tries to collect, what should be a quick and easy job is anything but! All your faves are back in action as the cozy yakuza comedy continues!
Another panels of flashbacks! I'm really hungry for more. I need to see how Miku made Tacchan settle down! By the way, the haiku and collecting dues chapters are so freaking hilarious! But the typhoon one is the best! Had me laughing out loud when Tacchan was like readying himself on a battle and was hit on the temple with a piece of a roof! I can't help but think how Miku handles the craziness—and then I realized that she's crazy in her own way too. What a perfect couple.
This series just gives me pure delight. It’s relaxing & almost soothing to read about this reformed, softboi gangster and his fierce, caring wife. One of my OTPs, and I hope the anime gets another season. 🥰🥰🥰
This one was quite fun and has random adventures like Tatsu collecting dues but being so scary and then the typhoon thing with Masa and all that and his cooking skills saving the day and then there is the case with Miku and how he solves her issues, random encounters with the boss lady or his archenemy torajirou, a battle of the chefs and its so fun! The stories and art just keep getting better with every volume now!
Tatsu and Miku continue with their daily lives, with Tatsu’s unique take on the everyday providing some surprisingly good laughs this far along in the story.
Hey, another ‘same old story set-up’ story in the same week as Teasing Master Takagi-san and it makes for a pretty interesting contrast. As I alluded in my review for that book, that series’ biggest problem is that there is no real alteration of the outcome - I think that’s building to something but it is a LONG walk getting there.
Whereas this series might make Tatsu a patsy, it might not, heck, it might go just about anywhere in pursuit of silly mob jokes and that’s why it tends to fare a bit better, even if the repetition of Takagi-san has fostered a bit more depth of character, oddly.
It’s worth pointing out that this mangaka still can’t end a story, as many of these just stop dead in their tracks like time simply ceased to exist for the characters rather than an appropriate denouement has occurred. It’s no less jarring now than it was then.
But, and it is a crucial but, this series is funnier. It has some chapters here that don’t quite deliver more than a chuckle, but when something works, it works so damn hard.
The hospital story is worth the entire cost of the book and easily justifies anything this series has done to that point. It starts off with Miku’s love of fictional magical girl show Policure leading to an attempt at a good deed that seems super forced, which then spirals out of control and subsequently ends with somebody pointing out a criticism I had of the story and the most deadpan mic drop at the end.
I point that one out in particular because it is not only the hardest I’ve laughed at something in months, it is almost certainly the best story the series has done - and it has done some very, very good stories.
There is a subsequent chapter about alcohol free bootlegging that also starts one way and then veers into an absurd running gag that functionally repeats something so many times it becomes funny by sheer repetition, which is not easy to pull off. It’s nearly as good as the hospital segment.
Toss in some pretty good stories about hustling for association fees and birthday gifts (another big laugh at the end of that one), plus a huge assortment of cats and a haiku about toebeans and there’s more than enough to excuse a couple of limper chapters.
4 stars - I can’t give it anything less after how hard I was laughing at some of these. Still surprisingly strong and long may it last.
SUPER Funny. The fight between Tatsu and a "STORM" is to freaking funny. Watching them deal with a new "energy" drink or supplement to be healthier was great. Tatsu and Miku putting on a show for a sick kid? Priceless.
Overall, as always, highly entertaining with a lot of heart.
So this wasn't a bad volume, and it consistently stayed with its formatting. The artwork also continues to be good, however, this volume is where I hit my limit for the slice of life type manga. I don't plan on continuing the series after this volume because it just feels like while the characters face different challenges in each volume, there is no real over-arching plot, and that is something I need in stories and manga. Like I said, it wasn't bad, there wasn't necessarily a reduction in quality, this is just where I hit my limit for this type of manga. That being said, if slice-of-life manga is your thing, then this series would probably be for you.
Ms. Torii is trying to keep a low profile as she indulges in a guilty pleasure, but she has the misfortune to run into Tatsu at his part-time gig. He shows her the ropes, and helps her to enjoy the experience.
A typhoon is rolling into the area, and this means war! Tatsu is up to the challenge, determined to defend his turf from the invader, no matter the cost! But when he learns that Masa is out and about at this perilous time, he is determined to save him!
Tatsu, Miku, and Masa go camping. When Masa accidentally knocks over the rice, he approaches the other campers in hopes of finding someone with extra and runs into Tora, who is also camping. When Tatsu finds out, the one-upmanship begins!
Tatsu and Masa are taking collections… for the neighborhood association. But oddly, the people they approach seem to take Tatsu’s requests as some kind of threat. When he approaches one particularly difficult group of men, Tatsu has to make them understand what the money is actually going to be used for.
Miku absolutely loves watching Policure, and Tatsu enjoys it along with her. But she has a favor to ask of him. Her friend has a very ill child in the hospital who also loves Policure, so can Tatsu visit her… but dressed as a character from the show?
Tatsu and two of his associates are called upon for a delicate job involving a man’s beloved daughter named Pinky’s birthday. Of course they’ll do it, and each plans the perfect gift according to their own talents. Which will the beloved canine prefer?
Tatsu shows Masa how to make malt amazake, a non-alcoholic sake. Tatsu has to keep reminding Masa to have patience or he’ll ruin the product! The next day, Miku is subjected to the amazake everywhere she turns, to her dismay. Is there no limit to the stuff?
Miku’s father invites Tatsu to go with him to a meeting of his haiku club, and is gratified to find Tatsu admires his haiku. When Tatsu tries his hand at some haiku of his own, there seems to be an oddly familiar theme in what he writes. When the club runs into a rival group, a friendly haiku slam is proposed. Can these two groups discover any common ground?
After meticulously ironing everything, Tatsu overdoes it and has thrown out his back! Miku discovers him lying face down on the floor. But he refuses to take it easy, and she ends up having to carry him to a doctor… for the second time in their relationship.
I never get tired of these stories. I could read them forever! Each volume is so good! I love everything about them, the art, the stories, the characters. I think they are perfect. My favorite story in this volume was the one with the child in the hospital, made me cry (good cry, not bad). Also, another glimpse into how Tatsu and Miku met. I hope we get to see more of that, cause I am dying to know how the demure Miku met and fell in love with a Yazuka! Look for the bonus stories involving Tora going camping and Gin’s encounter with an otaku.
I have to say this volume is my least favorite of the seven I’ve read. Nothing really in particular that made me like it less, it just wasn’t as funny as the other ones have been. Still like this manga series and I’ll continue to read the volumes as they come out in English translation.
I thoroughly enjoy this series. It's so so easy to read. I finish a volume in less than an hour and then take my time and reread the chapters again.
In Vol. 7 Tatsu has a part-time job at a cat cafe. The name of the cafe: Hairball Cafe. Throw in a haiku club - a typhoon - Tatsu with back pain - Tatsu collecting the neighborhood association dues. Miku makes her presence known in most of the chapters. (We get another glimpse of their first meet.)
Recommend: Light light light ... a gag manga ... a cozy manga ... and the illustrations alone make the series worth a look.
read all the volumes after watching the netflix show. i think it’s a surprisingly wholesome series that i really enjoyed and i can’t wait for the next volume. hopefully there’s more backstory to tetsu and miku’s relationship, maybe as a bonus story or something ?? because i would love to know more about how they ended up together!! they’re so cute
This was so much fun to read! Will I remember anything that happened in this volume in two day’s time? No. But I don’t care.
My fave thing about this volume was seeing my bae Torii again. Seeing her soft side with her playing with some kitties melted my heart 💖
And as always I love my chaotic house husband and the way people always think he’s trying to threaten them when he’s just being a good house husband and doing his due diligence. Bless his heart 😩❤️
