In the deepest black between galaxies, another enemy waits, and it is the only thing that can cause The Corruptor fear. As the Realm grows around a Kingsport that is now more massive than any human creation, Dash will find common cause with a race who lurk in the shadows, well beyond the edge of known human space.
With ships of a new design, the Realm will turn outward, striking into territory long held by the Deepers and their unholy creatures, wrapped in technology as old as the stars themselves. But the universe is shrinking, thanks to Realm scientists and the efforts of Kai and his brethren, who find that secrets still remain in the hidden places where humans store memory, and history—and weapons.
Pursuing Pavel Hu into the darkness, Dash finds the truth about human history, and just what it means to end a war that has raged since before Earth was civilized, and when the sun itself was young.
The Deepers have nowhere to go but ahead, and in their way is the most powerful fleet ever assembled—
But in the final battle for galaxies far and wide, will Dash and his mechs be enough?
I'm a bit disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved this book. But I wish the climax at the end wasn't so rushed. I don't want to give any spoilers away, but I feel like the final battle and all that went with it could have had a bit more description and explanation. Then the epilogue was a bit vague. I heard Terry plans on writing more in this universe, but I'm not sure if this was supposed to tease it or attempt to close loose ends. Either way, if you got this far in the series you obviously enjoy it and will read this final book. I couldn't put it down. I'm very excited to see what Terry does next.
In the fifteenth and final entry of J.N. Chaney and Terry Maggert’s The Messenger series, Newton “Dash” Sawyer’s crusade against the life-hating Deepers continues, with the key component of the Cygnus Realm he leads, the Kingsport, continuing to grow, with the Realm aiming for territory long held by the antagonistic aliens. Dash continues to pursue the enigmatic Pavel Hu throughout space, with the Messenger discovering the truth about human history, worrying at times whether the Realm’s mechs and other forces will be enough to defeat the Deepers. The book opens proper with a battle against the Deepers, Dash’s forces having an initial advantage.
The final battles versus the Deepers continue throughout subsequent chapters, and Dash hears about a possible contagion among the alien adversaries that seems to be killing them. At one point, Dash visits the portion of the martial space station known as the Forge exclusively accessible by the Messenger, with an upgrade to his mech the Archetype suggested. Furthermore, the Kingsport has grown to the point where it almost entirely envelops the Forge, and in the latter portion of the novel, Dash visits Old Earth with Sabina Lavarovna, recovering from a long time in cryosleep.
While the concluding action and epilogue ending the novel seem moderately hasty, the final Messenger book was, in my opinion, overall, a satisfactory conclusion to the science-fiction series, given its effective mixture of character development and plentiful action. Granted, it does have many of the issues present in its predecessors such as a lack of a reminder as to the appearances of the various characters, human and nonhuman alike, although a databank preceding the primary text does somewhat keep readers updated with the various terminology native to the series. Ultimately, I would definitely recommend this book to those who enjoyed prior entries.
This is the last book in the series of 15 books and in this book we see Dash Leira Conover and Amy and all the Cygnus realm pulled together to fight the Queen, the Queen of the Deepers and the thousands upon thousands of enemy ships. The last book told about Dash and himself declared to be the protector of all life(?) And has started plans to do just that But he also has an enemy to defeat. Gate technology has increased that a gate can be sent for any location and there is a new weapon called "The Answer" that uses gravitational forces to annihilate. Actually leaving an environmental disaster in its wake also. Super battle at the end and also with the huge Queen ( who may be billions of years old)? There could be a future note at the end of This book, who knows maybe it could be a future series, or a spinoff?
Man! That was incredible! Normally, authors usually write a final note to say goodbye to the series they have written and thank the fans or other people who helped them in this project. Of course, it doesn't have to be the norm when writing a story but it seems that I was so used to that kind of thing that I expected it here too.
Well.. regarding the story? I became very attached to the characters, and how the story developed. Especially with the human-AI interactions.. that one was what made me laugh the most. If this is the end? I appreciate it very much and I will stay with it. But if the author decides to give me more? Of course I'll dive right in again. Until next time! And thank you for giving me another universe to fill my mind
And maybe a bit sad that the series is done, partly because nothing else I’ve read from either of these authors has been as captivating as this series. Mostly I’ve enjoyed the consistency for characters and plot, underscored by the basic “good triumphs” theme. Based on my experiences with this book, I will continue to sample new works written either jointly or individually by these authors, hoping to find another one worthy of my time.
This book series was absolutely amazing. I was so excited to get to the next book in the series that I was going out of my mind. I have recommended this book to all of my friends. I know great things have to end but I can’t help but wonder does it. I kept reading all the books in the series over and over again. Thank you so much for your writing.
I loved it! Those onion-chopping ninjas got me three times. It's sad to see this series end, but it was a good end. I hope to see more stories from this universe.
Wow what a great ending to a great series. To be honest I don't want the series to end. I hope there can be a new series of the messenger with Conover as the lead hero or maybe Dash and Leira have kids who knows plenty of scope there lol
This feels like a ending story also I am sure Dash can find some baddies somewhere in the universe. It is a big place after all. Fast paced typical banter you have come to appreciate.
The Messenger books have been simply awesome to read! Each book and story line were suburb. I will continue to look and read future Chaney & Maggert stories. Great job guys!
What can I say, I personally love all Chaney stuff, he's a really good person to, he will answer you if you reach out with a question about Dash, or anyone in his books! I found every aspect of this work enjoyable!
They delivered again and when it really mattered. I did worry that there were some unpleasant bits coming up..... A fitting end I thought. I remember when I was only six books in thinking how will this play out, very well as it turned out
I just finished one of the best series I have ever read. The story line kept you anticipating each new book in the series. I would start a book and before I knew it I was moving on to the next one. Excellent read. My Thank you to the author.
I'm saddened that this saga has come to an end.....one of the most enjoyable series that I have read, and I've read a lot. Thank you for occupying my time so pleasantly.
This was an absolute great book to end the series. I will miss Dash and everyone else in the realm. I am sorry that it is over but I am happy it ended the way it did.
Totally enjoyed the whole series all 15 books, sad actually to see it end, I think there is more could be told of Dash and his team, gentle hint to the authors
