Rate this book
The earth trembles and the stars fall. Things that were long forgotten return and Astra and her twin brother, Kato, are at the center of it all. Magic has been dead for centuries, but when Astra and Kato are born, it’s a sign that something is about to happen. No twins have ever been born before—not in their country of Callenia or anywhere else on their continent. Beneath their skin prowls an unknown, ancient power and the closer they get to their eighteenth birthday, the closer it comes to breaking free.

When a handsome young stranger with connections to the Prince of Callenia appears in their nothing town of Timberborn, they may finally have access to the answers they’ve been seeking their entire lives. Soon, they’re running for their lives from a fearful king and the trust of strangers and new friends may be their only chance at survival and controlling their manifesting powers.

DO NOT WALK, RUNNNNN TO GO PICK THIS BOOK UP WHEN IT COMES OUT! I received an ARC for this book and now I'm angry because it hasn't even come out yet and I need more. This book had an amazing, unique magic system that was really interesting to read about, but the author didn't rely on magic to carry the book. This is a high fantasy novel full of action that made me anxious to see how things were going to shake out. The romantic subplot further advances the plot for me and gave me something to obsess over during the spots that didn't see as much action. The snark and sass from the characters is EVERYTHING. Also, most fantasy novels give such an info dump in the beginning for the world building and character introductions, but I didn't feel that with this one.

This is Amber Lewis' debut novel, but holy cow, how did she become such an amazing writer? It's the badass plot, hardcore secondary characters and cliffhangers for me, fam. I loved the little quirky ways that Amber made this book her own. It kept me on my toes and made me keep guessing what would happen next. I could not put it down and even woke up at 4am one morning and didn't end up putting it down until I finished (and boohoo ugly sobbed). I need more people to read this book so I can talk about it to someone! This is probably tied for my second favorite fantasy book this year. Would give it 10 stars if I could!!!

If you are looking for character driven, unique magic system, romance, adventure, humor then this is your book. I was deeply invested in this story. There were so many times when Kato or Alak made me laugh out loud. I loved Felixe. While the plot is drawn out there is enough going on with the characters that it never felt slow to me. Towards the end I started to get six of crows vibes from it with the little gang of misfits lol. I had the opportunity to read this as an arc and now I am dying for more. I felt attached to all the characters and I need to know what my friends are doing now. Can’t wait for the other books.

The world building and magic systems in this book were great but the relationships between the characters is what really did it for me-particularly Astra and Kato! I loved getting in Astra’s head and going on this magical journey with her!

This book is an incredible journey of Astra and her friends. Astra and Kati are twins, the first born that they know of, and when they turn 18 their magic is released from inside them. As we follow their journey of discovery, we meet friends, foe's and lovers. An unlikely alliance with a Prince and his guard is one of the main parts to this story, the want for knowledge and the safety of those that weld magic is so important to the prince that he goes against his father's wishes to dispute and ignore the return of magic.
The magic in this story is like none I have read about, the detail of how the magic has an impact on those that use it, it connects you to the characters and allows you an insight to their emotions and physical being.
The landscapes and characters have such depth an detail that you can imagine yourself walking alongside them and are a part of the journey.

I will give this book 4.5 stars as the attacks from a male on the main character and the trigger warnings were not available until the end of the book. This gives the 1/2 star off.
That being said it was not as hard to read as I have found these scenes in the past.

Cannot wait for the next one.

“because our past does not define us. Rather, it is our choices that we make to better ourselves despite our past and the mistakes we’ve made."

You know you when find a book that you instantly can't put down, makes you laugh, cry, get angry and filled with joy? This is that book!! I instantly fell in love and easily finished in 24 hours I couldn't put it down.

The story telling and world building is incredible. If you like fantasy worlds with magic if all kinds, magical creatures, sexual tension, and fate this is the book for you. I honestly cannot wait for the rest if the series.

I was lucky enough to receive and ARC for this book. But these are my honest opinions and you should read it.

I love magic, and boy does this book have it. Astra and her twin Kato are your typical brother sister relationship, but can talk to each other in their minds. I like how they each of have own talents but are willing to help and teach each other. Kato teaching Astra how to fight definitely will help her very early on in the book.
From the start you dislike the twins father, and when he tells Astra that she must marrying this awful man that’s when I knew that I really didn’t like him. This takes place two or three days before their 18th birthday.
While at the festival that happens around their birthday, Astra runs into the beautiful stranger. I knew he would be important. I just couldn’t decided if he was the prince or someone who is close to the prince. Turns out that he is the captain of the prince’s royal guard. He and Astra and immediately are taken with each other. I love a good love story. Meeting the prince and his guard is when all the trouble begins.
Okay, for those looking for certain tropes that I am a sucker for
Magic ✅
Powerful magic ✅
Royalty ✅
Banned magic ✅
Love triangle ✅
The drama of a love triangle ✅
On the run/outlaws ✅
Fighting within the group because of the situation ✅
Found family ✅
And most importantly
Betrayal ✅
Oh man. This book messed with my emotions towards the end. I woke up earlier so I can read more before school. I needed to know what was going to happen!

I had the opportunity to be part of Amber’s ARC Team. The sad part is now I have to wait longer before the second book comes out. 😭 I need to know what’s going to happen with these characters that I love!

10/10 would read again

The night Astra and Kato were born stars fell from the sky. They are the only twins to have ever been born in their country or even the continent.

Prophecies are made about them, good and bad. Will they save the world or will they destroy it when the power inside them manifests?

One thing is for sure… There was almost no magic left in the world until the twins turn 18. Now there’s magic found all over and it is not welcomed by all.

This fantasy book has romance (love triangle), action. Loved this story and love the characters, especially the little Fae Fox (Felixe); one of my favorites:)

This is the first book in a series and I’m definitely invested to want to know how this story will continue!

Goodreads doesn’t do a half star rating, so I rounded it up from a 4.5 to a 5.

This was my first time receiving an ARC and may I just say I'm happy it was this book.

This book has everything I love in a book. It has magic, adventure, and romance it also had me laughing, crying, and yelling. It has good world building and amazing characters. I loved all the witty banter that happened between the characters, as well as watching Astra grow into her powers.

The author did an amazing job with telling the story and the plot twist had me shocked. I can't wait to read the rest of this series as I am now so excited to see where the story goes from here.

This book has everything you want!

I loved that the author included a pronunciation page for the characters names and locations.

The story telling and world building was fantastic. This is definitely a book that you’ll struggle to put down when you start reading it. There are moments in the book that make you laugh and others that make you cry.

I was lucky to get a copy of the ARC, but would easily suggest this book to everyone that enjoys reading fantasy.

This book is phenomenal! Amber has written these characters so well that you feel for all of them. It has magic, adventure, character character development and of course love. I can not wait to read the next book to see Astra come more into her power.
There are trigger warnings at the end of the book so make sure to check those out before reading.

This book had great world-building and engaging characters. Lewis manages to create a complex world with its own system of magic without resorting to info-dumps. I found myself very invested in Astra's story. Were there tropes? Yes. Do I care? No, because they are done in an enjoyable way 😂

**I received an ARC to review and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.**

Wow! I have to be honest, and while I had no reason to expect this, I didn't think I was going to be so impressed by this debut! What an amazing story for my first ARC.

Let's talk Astra. I LOVED reading about Astra truly becoming her own woman. She really began to blossom, and I'm dying to read more about her. Then, add on a hott twin ... yes, please! The relationship between Astra and Kato was fantastic!

There is so much love in this book, including a hint of a love triangle! But also between friends, and found family.

There are epic adventures, and betrayals! There are twists and turns and an ending that is just ... 🤯.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, and already can't wait for book 2!

*** I received an ARC to review and am voluntarily leaving an honest review***

Things I liked:
Ehren. Exactly the type of character I love. He’s witty, he’s kind, and he’s the type to kill for the ones they love. I spent the first part of the book hoping he wouldn’t betray them when they got to Embervein and the rest praying that he wouldn’t be killed.
Plot twist at the end. It was well done enough that you can pick up hints about what will happen, but not so obviously you were 100% sure even before it happened.
I’m not generally a fan of first person narrative in fantasy books, but Astra’s voice is very clear. Any questions that popped into my mind about the world she lived in were answered by Astra. She was a curious character and magic in the world was new. As Astra experienced everything for the first time and so did I- the reader.
I have a bad habit of putting books down in the middle of a paragraph. Sometimes a day or two goes by before I’m able to pick it back up. I never felt lost or like I had to backtrack to remember what was going on.
Things I didn’t like:
There were a few plot points I feel could have been strengthened and weaved into the story a little better, though they’re not plot holes. The plot line with Marco and the one with Landis are the main ones that come to mind.
I’m not a huge fan of love triangles. It’s always obvious to me who will end up with who- it feels like conflict for conflict sake. I will say that I can understand why the author chose this route because it does set up a certain plot point for book 2. Love triangles aren’t a deal breaker for me, but if they are for you. It might not be the book for you.
Astra’s passivity. Especially in the beginning of the book, Astra is a character who things happen to rather than setting things in motion. This does seem to be a personality flaw, rather a storytelling one as Astra, as she experiences things outside of her village and her support system grows, she makes independent decisions. I’m interested to see how she’ll grow from here.

I look forward to seeing how Astra’s story progresses and how she grows from here. I want to see her relationships grow with other character’s, especially her friendship with Ehren. I love Ehren.

I accidentally hit the rating and can't get it off, so enjoy my totally unbiased (hahahaha) review of my own book. First off, it's awesome and I think you'll like it if you give it a chance. Secondly, here are things you can expect to find within the pages of The Night the Stars Fell:

* Witty Banter (because I love sassy characters who go back and forth with each other)

* Character Driven Story (Because the characters are amazing and I love them all)

* Found Family (It's a favorite trope. What can I say? I love it!)

* Simple, uncomplicated world building (Because we all hate info dumps and complicated worlds that we don't understand)

*Bits of Romance (Because love makes the world go round)

* Outlawed/Forbidden Magic (Once again, something I love in fantasy books)

* A Red-Haired Love Interest (Gotta mix it up, ya know?)

* An adorable animal companion (He's based on a Fennec Fox and is a fan favorite)

* A female protagonist that starts off kinda awkward but slowly comes into her powers and embraces her badass side. (Yay for girl power!!!)

* Family bonds (But, like, not in a weird way, because, NO.)

* Queer characters (Not gonna lie, like at least 75% of the characters throughout the series are queer, even if it's not immediately obvious.)

* Twists, twists, and more twists (I can't say you won't see some coming, but usually I manage to sneak one or two past most readers.)

So, yeah. That's my book. It's a truly epic adventure filled with so much awesomeness and I really think you should give a shot. And if you need further convincing, you can always check out my author website for more details and fun stuff like character profiles complete with official artwork, pronunciation guides with sound clips, Spotify playlists, maps, and more!

The writing style reads easily and I think it could be an enjoyable series for younger readers (12-15 yrs).

I'm a bit confused by all the 5 stars this book has gotten honestly.

There is a real lack/absence of world building and descriptions. The only memorable description was of a specific ball gown. It's not necessary to have detailed descriptions of everything but something more than just 'the castle' or 'a small village'. The politics of this world are not explained, the king seems to be all powerful and wants to cut down anyone that could be stronger/more powerful than him. Which doesn't make sense because I'm quite convinced any of his guards would be stronger.
I liked the magical elements but there wasn't a lot of explanation on how they worked. Sometimes the main character asks, and then the other says oh I just had a feeling.

The story meandered along pleasantly for the most part but I wasn't sure what the point of it was since motives, the why, weren't that well explained. Aside from the prince wanting to protect magic and his father didn't. Even though most of the magic users were actually really unkind towards non magic users.

The conflicts were very juvenile, mostly outbursts of anger or jealousy. Which is entirely justified since the main character is cheating on her first love interest but still keeps shaming him into trusting the other, that really rubbed me the wrong way.
The main character gets assaulted twice pretty much out of nowhere and the only reason for it is to have potential love interests save her/ fawn over her. I don't mind using it once to have a saviour moment but pick something else for the next guy... The motives of the "bad guys" are entirely missing besides them just being bad. Where is the character depth? Only Alak seemed to slightly have some.

It is a good palate cleanser from more complex books and I don't regret giving it a shot but by the end I was really done with it.

What an amazing book!!! As I start this review, I’m not sure I can do it justice. I will also try to do this without giving spoilers, if I can.

I discovered this book and the author on TikTok, her book trailers got me hooked. I bought my copy. When it arrived, it’s one of the largest books I’ve read with 614 pages and apparently 178k words long. I was like can I even do this?

Once I began reading there was no doubt I was going to enjoy this book. I read the entire part one in my first sitting, only stopping cuz I needed sleep for work.

This debut novel by Amber D. Lewis is amazing and I can’t wait for book 2.

It is full of laughter and happiness, mixed with sadness and fear. A brewing war and a fight against magic. Love triangles and sibling rivalry.

Kato well that man had me cracking up constantly, well until he didn’t. Alak gods I can’t wait to read his story and see what’s hidden there. Ehren this is the kind of prince that the world not only wants but needs. Astra she’s innocence and power all wrapped in one. Though she did make me mad that once, but I forgave her. And when her heart broke, mine broke with hers. And everyone needs a Felixe. Yes yes they do.

I’m anxiously awaiting the next books. If you made it this far, what are you waiting for? Go get this book, you will thank me later.

I haven’t read in a long time. I lost my passion I suppose. A friend of mine suggested The Night the Stars Fell saying she thinks I’d love it. And To my surprise I did fall in love with this story. For the first time in a long time, a book excited me and kept me guessing. I could not put it down! It is fantasy and magic and action and intrigue and romance. As I’m reading along I keep thinking I know what will happen next and BAM I was wrong and intrigued and excited all over again. I’ve read book 1 twice, book 1.5 and am in the middle of reading book 2. I can’t get enough of all the diverse characters and want to know more and more. Amber D Lewis has created a world and people that is very unique and somehow very relatable.

I received an ARC for an honest review. I honestly had a hard time staying with this book. I wanted to love it but I kept putting it down and not picking it back up. The beginning chapters of turmoil for the main character threw me off and made it hard to continue reading for me. I did finish the book, however it would not be one I would read again. I do recommend everyone try something at least once and give every book they pick up a chance.

The Night the Stars Fell is amazing and I can’t wait to read more! The characters are wonderfully developed and likable. Even though this is a fantasy, you do not get bored with the descriptions or details since they are woven into the story. The book leaves you wanting more without a major cliffhanger. I am a more conservative reader and would suggest 16+ and note your trigger warnings. Happy reading!! I received an ARC for an honest review.

This up & coming Author is AMAZING! The way she depicts characters & builds her world is very engaging. I couldn’t put the book down. Characters are flawed Which makes them relatable as they struggle with inner demons just like as do. The whole tale just made me want more because it was SO incredibly good. This book is in line to be as great as the ACOTAR series. Everyone who loves YA FANTASY should read!

This book got me hooked on reading again. I had gotten hooked on audiobooks. With this author being new, audiobooks were not available. However, the raving reviews from friends enticed me to commit to a physical book. Now I am obsessed all over again. Not only did Amber D Lewis bring back the magic of reading to my life, but the story line is amazing and well worth the praise. I cannot wait to continue following this series!!

The Night The Stars Fell was definitely one of those books that you just can not stop reading. The world building as well as the character building were absolutely great. I loved everything about this story. Great world building and characters you love and love to hate. Lots of actions and spell binding. The twins and the royal guards trying to save magic now that it back or was it ever really gone. They can use all the help they can get even if mean trust a person from their past got to love the tension that brings. Can't wait for book 2.
