Great series!

This series was a very different take on a zombie apocalypse.
In a very good way, that makes it well worth reading!

Nick Clausen has done an amazing job with the Dead Meat series and I am totally invested in sticking with it til the end to see how he wraps it up. That being said, I have my fingers crossed that my favorite characters will still be alive when it is all said and done.

Well, this is the final day of the zombie apocalypse and I have had my fingers crossed that my favorite character, Dan, will make it to the end. TODAY, his mission is to find his father. Will he be dead dead? Will he be a zombie, making it possible for Dan to cure him?

I can picture Dan with the water gun. How about having a little fun in zombieland?

As we near the end of our journey, Nick Clausen has never failed in the world building and dangerous times…and it is nail biting, spine tingling, with characters to love and hate. He kept me on my toes with the pacing and suspense as I wondered who he would kill off next. Would be favorite characters(s) be left alive when their journey ends?

My rating: I have been doing so much reading since Covid entered our lives that I think my ratings have changed and it is even harder to get my attention, keep it, and make me race through the pages…because I HAVE TO KNOW! Nick Clausen was able to do that with Dead Meat: Day 9. This series has been unpredictable and unputdownable and five stars is well deserved!

Now, I’m curious…what’s next Nick?

This was definitely a 5 star series and this review will reflect the series as a whole and not just day 9, the last book. Now before you get all pearl clutching about that statement, let me explain.

Yes I know I gave all the books in the series either 3 or 4 stars, how then can I give the series 5 stars? Because I finished the series and I enjoyed all of it. I am an ADHD Gen Xer. I spend my time flitting from book to book, series to series dipping a toe here, testing the waters there. It is quite infrequently that I finish a series of books, especially if there are more than three. My mind just gets bored of either the writing style, the world building, or something else just catches my eye. I am like a book junkie, always chasing the next literary high. So for me to sit down and complete a 9 book series in a couple months, that says something about the series, thus a five star. Plus, it is the summer and I am on my "Light and Fluffy" book grading. I tend to judge books a little easier in the summer when the "Livin is easy."

This review is also featured on Behind the Pages: Dead Meat Day 9

The world is growing desperate as the zombie population continues to rise. Without a scientific cure, the threat of nuclear war has arisen. But Dan and company aren’t willing to give up. They are determined to find a way to cure the world and avoid all out war.

The clock is ticking as the story progresses and the characters face ever growing challenges. Not only are the zombies increasing in number, but so are the humans who have given in to their darker sides. For some, it's easy to push aside their morals when faced with what seems to be an incurable disease. To them, ridding the world of zombies is seen as heroic instead of nefarious. Readers will be held in suspense as Dan and the others encounter these shady characters. After all, if the world is cured they would go back to being villains. And they certainly can’t have that happen.

Right up until the end Nick Clausen keeps the reader guessing as to which direction the story will go. While Dan, William, and the rest have a good idea of how to end the apocalypse, there’s no telling if they will be able to accomplish their goals in time to halt the military. There is a sense of urgency as the characters race to save the world, ramping up the tension and keeping readers on the edge of their seats.

I do wish Iver would have been given a bit more page time. His situation was precarious at best as he struggled to save himself and the little boy left with him. The scenes they have are certainly nail-biting, but I would have liked to see it drawn out a bit more. And while the story came full circle by the end it felt like it wrapped up a bit too quickly.

Overall I enjoyed the Dead Meat series. The episodic storytelling played into the plot and gave readers something to look forward to with each new book. There was a promise of ever-increasing stakes, world-building, and intense characters. I’m sad to see it come to an end.

The finale to the Dead Meat series has been a long time coming, and I was so excited to finish this series out. While I enjoyed this conclusion, I was hoping for just a little bit more out of it.

A cure has been established, but now our ragtag heroes have to find a way to spread it and stop the US from nuking Europe with little time. Can they find a way, or will Europe be decimated?

The stakes were very high in this novel, the action scenes were really great, and the sense or urgency definitely sped things along. That being said, overall it felt a bit rushed and short to me. I felt like this novel needed a little more meat on the bone, more of that great epic struggle that we've seen up until now. It diminished that sense of fulfillment you get when finishing a book in a blaze of glory.

Iver's POV has been so important in previous books, but this time he didn't have quite as much limelight. He stayed true to himself, but I would've liked to see a bit more of him. Dan and William as usual stole the show with their POV's, which was fine by me. They've been my favorites throughout the series, and it was good to see them continue to support each other.

The writing as usual was really good and flowed seamlessly, and we did get an official ending to the series.

I'm really glad I gave this a shot, and if I wasn't a fan of Clausen already, I sure am now. Can't wait to see more from this author!

Wow this series started off as a "classic zombie story" and turned into something totally unique! I was glued to this series the whole way through. Action packed the entire time, there was not a single moment I was bored. I cannot wait to read everything else Nick Clausen has written.

This book was so good! Thank you for writing it and the ending was the best possible way things could’ve gone. I’m truly glad to have read this series, it reminds me of the walking dead and supernatural mixed together. I loved the voodoo and the way they could replicate the cure, one thought I had was I wish I know how our characters are now, Is Dan with his dad and hanging out with William? Does William find his mom? Does Iver take care of the toddler for good? Will Dan and Liv get together and have a happy life? Like so many questions! Though I may never know the answers I am truly happy to have read a book series about zombie that ended in a cure!

Great end to the series

I absolutely love this series. While I didn’t love something that happened to a character in Day 8, and it dampened my enthusiasm for this book, I’m glad I finished the series and saw it through to the clever resolution.
As always, I love Dan and William (and most especially Ozzie).
Clausen has managed to provide a satisfying conclusion to the series while still giving lots of thrilling scenes in this novel.

Title: Dead Meat Day 9
Author: Nick Clausen
Rating: 4/5

Synopsis:

Day 9 of the outbreak and finally there is hope! A cure to end the apocalypse has been found but there is a race against the clock to make sure the military do not step in and intervene, bringing a different kind of disaster. There must be proof that this cure works and proof through a video is simply not enough. Faced with challenges along the way including another group of humans who are taking things into their own hands- the gang need to show that this vaccine works before the bombing begins.

Review:
I have been on such an amazing journey with this series and I was gutted it has finally come to and end, but excited for closure and to see the end result. There were no doubts about connecting with this book because I always connect with Nick’s brilliant writing. Each of the stories in this series have resonated with me in different ways, it has been quite an emotional rollercoaster and Day 9 was no different.

Day 9 was fast paced and action packed, Nick didn’t disappoint in that front, but I loved the sense of hope I was feeling throughout. I devoured this book in one hour and I was quite sad when I had finished, I had come to end too quick! It really does feel like the end of an era.

As well as being action packed from the get go, it was quite emotional in places and actually quite emotional at the end. I loved how easy it was to also pick this story back up from where I left off, another thing Nick can do cleverly.

Nick has really done an amazing job with this series, I’m so glad I stuck with him with all the books and this is by far my favourite apocalyptic read. All the characters are different and you are able to connect with them all. They are well-written and I would strongly advise the zombie lovers out there to dig in to this series and really stick with it. Thank you so much Nick for taking me on this apocalyptic journey.

This is the final book in Nick Clausen’s zombie series, Dead Meat. The zombie outbreak is reaching the western hemisphere as the U.S. plans to nuke Europe in an attempt to get the situation under control while Nick and his friends attempt to spread the word about the cure they’ve discovered.

It’s difficult to say enough good things about this series. It’s fast-paced, gritty, and realistic all at once. And on top of all that, it provides a rationale for the zombie apocalypse that is rooted deep in the history of zombie lore that is unique and imaginative. I read through this last volume very quickly, so I didn’t notice any of the proofreading lapses that were common in the earlier books – the author taught himself English by watching Netflix, so it’s to his credit that there weren’t more of them.

I gave Dead Meat – Day 9 five stars on Goodreads. If you already love the horror genre or zombies, or are looking for somewhere to start, I recommend the entire Dead Meat series.

El último. Que no todo termine mal. Please

The PERFECT ending to an amazing trilogy!!

Dead Meat: Day 9 by Nick Clausen is the final book in this amazing series. Just like the others leading up to this point, this story was action-packed and tense! Readers will be quickly flipping the pages to see what happens next.

This series is a must read. Even if you are a bit tired of the zombie trope, this series is so refreshing and fun. It’s action packed, brutal, and heartbreaking. But there’s also a strong sense of hope throughout that sees readers through to the end.

While I was so sad to see this series come to an end, I walked away totally satisfied with the overall path Nick took readers on. These characters will stick with me for a long time to come. I know I’ll be returning to the series again when I need a zombie fix!

*Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

WHEW! Even though it's the last book and you have a pretty good idea of what's going to happen and how it's going to end, it still keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time!

As I've mentioned before, zombies are not my usual fare, even though I love a good horror/suspenseful tale. But this was by far the best book out of the series, mostly because they finally found a cure and most of the characters I've come to care about are still alive to see the dawn of a new day.

A great conclusion to a pretty good series!

Series gets an overall 3 stars from me.

Things I loved:
- no one is safe
- it was a good new take on zombie lore
- it went by at a tear, like so fast to read and not annoying at all to get through

Things I didn't love:
- do Danes hate fat people? There are a LOT of references to people's jiggling fat and rolls and references to how vile they are, and it's just...derivative. Idk if it's a translation thing...?

There are a couple of scenes that actually had me pretty worried, like in the arena, but it's a good series.

"Sometimes life gives you what you want, so long as you don't give up hope." This is a highly satisfying end to a good zombie apocalypse series. And it's not just a conclusion to events; it contains plenty of new action, with evil humans trying to stop the main characters from bringing the zombie-killing solution to the world. There are some of the previous volumes' main characters whose fate remain a mystery, even by the end of this, which frustrated me somewhat. But I loved the series and have again been reminded why I love zombie apocalypse novels.

It's the last book of the series. :)

I was so excited to read it, it's all been building up for 8 books and I was beyond ready to see how it will all end.

They finally have the cure to end the zombie apocalypse, but not they are racing against the clock. They have to prove that it works before the bombs start to drop and a simple video it's not enough. Dan and Liz go on a side mission to save their parents, but end up getting captured by humans taking the zombie situation into their own hands.

It's an incredibly intense, fast pace book, that I just flew through. Absolutely loved it.

Highly recommend the book & the whole series!

New Beginnings

This was a good series. But, some things weren't that clear to me. Like why Dennis changed when his mother died and why didn't Liv's parents come back? I was feeling like they may have and she didnt give it enough time. Also at the end when Dan's father apparently woke up. He thought it didn't work. I'm gonna have to go back and see if I missed anything. Still I enjoyed reading this series.

This is an enjoyable and easy to read zombie series that has interesting characters, a defined ending, and helps the reader understand the role of hope and faith in overcoming disaster. There’s good development throughout the book series and the characters are multi dimensional. The story seems to lag occasionally and, binge reading it as I did, find some of the scenes to be repetitive. However overall I really enjoyed the series and I’m happy I picked up the multiple compilation.

A satisfying end to a wild ride and a 9 day journey (10 if you count Day 0). One of the rare zombie books I've read with a kind of cure. If you've read all of the other books, then you don't really need another book review on this one - just make sure there is water coming out of the tap and then put your feet up.
