This is book two of the Twisted Magic series and sees Saf (Safiya) and Randall travelling to New Orleans in search for her friend Fiona. They have no idea where she was taken in the city, but hope to find some clues once they get there. But what they find in New Orleans is exactly what was happening in their own small town. One of the seven mages that had originally been locked away in a picture frame for hundreds of years, is creating chaos in the city. Anyone struck by one of the ribbons of magic, is changed into a demonic like Mardi Gras character, complete with masks. Saf thought it would be a quick in and out, but they had no idea what other cities had been affected by these mages. It seems they have arrived right at the wrong time and soon get caught up by a local who wants Saf for her magic, not realising how weak it is, to obtain an item he says belongs to him! Except it really doesn’t and they end up in an even more dangerous position.
Just when they thought they had survived that incident, they find what they believe to be an evacuated hotel and decide to try and rest up for the night, only to find themselves in the presence of a much stronger witch, Sasmita, who is after the mage for her own reasons. The hotel has them locked within it, as Sasmita tried to be a bit too clever and her magic backfired on them all. Joseph Stone turns up in the city near the end of the book, with the picture frame for this mage. He is the one that has been sent to take down all the mages and knows the location of the vault where these frames need to be locked back up, to keep the mages contained again. Saf gets a few lessons in boosting her magic from Sasmita, but still has a lot to learn. Nothing goes quite as expected and when they do locate Fiona, they also locate a large number lower level mages who try to stop them at every turn. A few funny incidents along the way, with a dangerous building and a trip into the swamps not turning out too well for all. They are largely out-numbered and matters don’t go quite the way they need them to. Lots more to come in this series and five more dangerous mages to still be stopped and a secret vault to be located! I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

“Twisted Elements” is the second instalment in the “Twisted Magic” mystery urban fantasy series by Rainy Kaye, whose main character (Safiya Morgan) works as a life coach for both ‘normal’ and supernatural clients, in a small town (Green River) in Nebraska. Her latest case put her in the path of a nightmares-demon, that attacked her personal circle by kidnapping her best friend (Fiona), forced Safiya to join forces with her ex and the victim of the nightmares-demon to find her friend (Twisted Magic, Book 1). The search for Fiona, now brings Safiya and Randall to New Orleans, in which they expect to be a in-and-out trip, but NOLA has a way to complicate things 😊. As they end up hostages of a local with a very different agenda, they team up with Sasmita, a strong witch to navigate the monster-plagued city. But Sasmita has a secret of her own, a dark secret that puts her directly in the path of danger. And then, there is Winston and Joseph Stone coming into town, as it appears there is not such a thing as ‘a quick trip to NOLA’.
A thrilling, captivating story, fast-paced and action-packed, with interesting characters and a well-balanced mix between pure action, character development and world-building. Nicely written and easy-to-follow and read, with an enticing plot and a satisfactory resolution, that nevertheless lefts the reader already wishing for the next instalment in the series.

Our heroine is off to New Orleans on the next stage of her plan. Too bad her plan goes wrong almost as soon as they step into the city.
This is book two of the series, but it works pretty well as a standalone. All the essentials are covered early on.
This is an urban fantasy story. The story is well written and easy to read with a fascinating setting that I want to explore in more depth. So it is really nice that we get to see an entirely new city here. The cast of characters is diverse and nicely detailed with unique personalities. Like the city, we get to meet a few new characters and get a bit more depth for our existing ones. The plot continues to be fast paced and full of action, mystery, and intrigue. Overall, another great book in the series and I look forward to seeing what comes next.

Overall, this was good. There are lots of action and adventure sequences, but I feel like I have more questions than I started with. I'm sure they will be answered further along in the series, but some things I feel like I needed answers before we moved on.
As for our newest character, I feel like I'm missing her backstory, and I need it. At the same time, the mystery may be needed.
Certain events that happened seemed super dragged out, while others felt rushed. So, the tempo of the book was a little off to me. I'll definitely be jumping into the next one, I need answers!!!

This is book two in the Twisted Magic series. It picks up where book one left off with Randall and Safiya leaving to look for Fiona. I loved how this book continued on and all the action that they encountered along the way. I would highly recommend this book. In order to understand what’s going on you need to read book one before this one. I can’t wait to read book three!

Book two and we are off to New Orleans and one hell of a battle. Fast paced and action packed we follow Safiya and Randell on their quest to find Fiona. There’s tons going on in this addictive storyline that’s full of danger, mystery, suspense and a little fun and we meet some new characters! Kick ass, strong and a little feisty, I am so eager to read the next book!

Where the first book started slowly, this one takes right off and keeps me interested from beginning to end. I am enjoying the ride with Safiya and Randall. Can they figure out what is wrong with Fiona? And can they stop the evil magical mages that have escaped from their prisons? I will keep reading!

This book picks up where we left off in book 1. Safina and Randall are on the hunt for Fiona which leads them to New Orleans. This book is full of action and kept me turning pages late into the night. I look forward to the next book.

This book picks up seamlessly from book one. The action and plot twists will definitely keep a reader turning pages. I loved this book and am truly looking forward to book 3
