Leilani has a gift: the tears she cries all turn into pearls.

Three years ago, her well-kept secret got exposed — and upon finding out, the sinister Twins who rule the island have claimed her as their bride-to-be.

The Twins stole the Crown from the King of the Ocean many years ago, obtaining powers no man should possess, holding everyone prisoner and controlling dark sea creatures that haunt the streets at night.

Desperate for divine intervention, Leilani throws a message in a bottle into the sea, pleading for the King of the Ocean to awaken from his slumber and save her.

The next day, she finds an unconscious young man on the beach.

Keanu is a mystery, quiet and seemingly cold-hearted, stormy-eyed and bearing scars, harboring deep secrets of his own.

Could he be the King? Or could he at least be Leilani’s savior?

Lynn Robin (1992) is an author of Paranormal Romance novels.

Born and raised in the historical city of Leiden in the Netherlands, she has felt the urge to write stories ever since she was little— preferably ones with ghosts and other spooky things (probably because her parents let her watch Stephen King film adaptions when she was nine).

Next to that, she likes to add a healthy dose of romance to her books; star-crossed lovers and forbidden romances, preferably about monsters hiding in the bodies of young men, and girls blessed with angelic powers—or at least humans touched by magical abilities.

She made her debut in 2017 with her Dutch series entitled the Schimmenwereld Serie (the Phantom World series), containing six books about ghosts, angels, demons, music, dance, art, and—of course—love. She won the Best Book of 2018 award with the fourth installment, Schimmendroom (Phantom Dream), chosen by the jury of The Dutch Indie Awards.

In 2020 she debuted internationally in English with the highly romantic Kissing Monsters series which concluded with 8 volumes in 2021. Her latest release is The Sea of Her, a still ongoing paranormal romance series in a tropical setting about the Weeper of Pearls, a Wild Stranger from the Sea and a long-lost King of the Ocean.

Besides being passionate about writing, she’s also a rather dedicated running/fitness/yoga/martial arts enthusiast, and likes to spend time with her family, play videogames, or freak herself out watching documentaries about haunted houses (for research, she claims).

so wow it took me way too long to pick this one up after receiving the arc which was really stupid of me considering how i finished it in one sitting today.

arc generously provided by the author

the one thing i majorly admire in each one of Lynn Robin's books is her flawless writing. when i read my first book by her, i was honestly blown away by how much i felt everything she wrote. i could feel what the characters felt and cry and laugh with them and its an amazing feeling.

if i had to choose my favourite part of this book, it'd probably be the prologue. to be honest i read the prologue thrice because of how beautifully it was written.

All she wants is another soul to keep her warm with promises that aren't based on lies, with love that is real and not based on gaining power. All she wishes for is a saviour.

Leilani has been lost, loveless, cold and alone ever since she lost Han, her father. She's been shunned by the other people on the island, has no family, and is being forced to marry two evil twins who want her for the precious pearls she weeps.

She's been crying for as long as she can remember. Maybe one day she'll cry enough to fill the sea and drown this darkness for once and for all.

She's unique, and has so many secrets that she knows others will take advantage of her for. Especially Akamai and Haku. The rulers of the Hibiscus Island and everyone's greatest fear.

They are evil and kill people for fun and really need the crown to be taken away from them. and this is where Keanu comes in.

honestly when he first came into the picture, i had SO many questions. is he the king? the saviour Leilani keeps asking for? why is he so cage-y? is he going to betray her? is he gonna have sea powers greater than the twins?

but as i kept reading ahead, all my questions were answered. i loved how the author kept feeding us bits and pieces of the story all leading to the bigger picture. the mystery of the island and the ocean and the king is honestly really fascinating and i have SO many theories as to what will happen next.

the romance was chef's kiss. when Keanu first kissed Leilani??? i did not expect it. like i really, really did not expect it. and it was the best surprise. i loved how sweet it was, and how amazingly he treated her, along with their little forbidden aspect. i totally fell in love with both of the characters like in the case of Kiss and Zane and i really can't wait for more.

also the twins' need for for the pearls? its weird. almost as if they need all those pearls to survive. i mean it explains why they want Leilani as their wife, and how Haku attacked Leilani like a madman while asking for more pearls.

like i said, i have way too many theories, especially after that cliffhanger which was plain mean. what is gonna happen next? is Keanu really going to defeat them? will Leilani marry them? will the true king come back? or is Keanu the king? or maybe there is a queen and Leilani is her?

needless to say i am anxiously waiting for the next book and would highly recommend this book!

A storm of emotions.
Of lies and betrayal exposed by truth.

This was a tale of paradoxes and star-crossed lovers. Of greed and sacrifice. Of fear and courage. Of defeat and fight. Of trust and betrayal. And last but the most important ....Of love and loneliness.

I loved the story, this world and its characters so much!! And I truly can't wait to read the next book. ♥️♥️

He, losing himself in the sea of her, she, losing herself in the waves of him.

The writing :

I don't know how many times I will say this (cuz I mention in every review I leave for Lynn's books😋) ....but me mentioning it even a million times won't make it any less truer. The utter intensity, and wildness in Lynn's writing, in her words and stories....I can't describe it right. That rawness tends to make you catch your breath while reading. I love reading her books just to experience all those emotions she brings forth in my heart 💖

The characters :

Keanu was.....he was such a stranger.(I mean that in the best possible way😍) He was tall, dark and handsome, mysterious and dark...but also, gentle and capable of such reverence. He didn't even need words....he took my heart from me with his expressions and body language alone. Sigh.

Roman Khodorov by Rick Day | Ronald epps, Male models, Roman

“It is instinct,” Keanu suddenly says, and Leilani looks up slowly. He doesn’t meet her eye. “A life is still a life, an existence, no matter how dark it may be. Even a bad life can be hard to give up on. Because your heart is always insistent on beating on, your lungs on drawing breath. It is instinct,” he repeats, finally lifting his gaze, “to stay alive. And hope for something better.”

Leilani was ♥️😍😭😘🤗😭.
Seriously, those emotions sum up my feelings for her. I loved her, cried for her and wanted to hug her multiple times real hard. She was such a sensitive, strong soul and I could feel everything she felt during the book. The fact that she was still so pure and innocent..and not cold and hardened ....after suffering so much made me admire her even more.

let's go lesbians — 𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙖 𝙚𝙞𝙨𝙡𝙚𝙮 𝙜𝙞𝙛 𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙠 — on the gif page linked in...

While this life isn’t a life at all, she’s not willing to die either.
Strange, how desperately a soul clings to a beating heart, no matter how tired and weary that heart may be.

If you want to lose yourself in a gorgeous world and a torrent of emotions , I'll highly recommend this.

P.S- It ends on a very wicked cliffhanger 😭 so suffer on your own risk if you plan to read this right now lol.

4.25 - The Sea of Her from Lynn Robin (a new author to me) was a quick, but engrossing read. I enjoyed the characters, atmosphere and setting very much. Overall the story itself had me engaged and wanting more. I look forward to reading the next book soon. A warning for binge readers (myself included), this does end on a cliffhanger and the series is not yet complete.

Exciting, heartbreaking and romantic all rolled into one. Leilani is a mystery but a pure soul. She has courage and vulnerability. Keanu is another mystery and vows to save Leilani.
I can’t wait for more ❤️

All Leilani has ever wanted out of life is to find her one true love. Someone to love her and keep her safe. But Leilani has secrets that could keep anyone from ever truly loving her. One of her secrets was exposed a while back and now the evil Twins from the ocean want to claim her as their bride but Leilani wants nothing to do with them for they are truly evil.

Leilani lives on this island that she or no one can escape from. Leilani sends out a message in a bottle from time to time asking the King of the Ocean to come help her and the others on the island. Leilani waits year after year for the King of the Ocean or someone to appear to help her but it never happens.

One day Leilani finds a man, Keanu that has washed up on shore. She saves the man but once the twins hear about him they want to destroy him but Leilani pleads to the evil Twins for the man’s life.

When Keanu first showed up on the scene I had so many questions about this strange dude. This man, Keanu is a very mysterious dude with secrets of his own. Like who was he exactly? Where did he come from? Is he Leilani’s savior? What is his intentions? Are they good or bad? Is he to be trusted? What is Keanu hiding? Or is he hiding anything at all?

The Sea of Her is a very mysterious read with so many unanswered questions which kept me glued to the pages watching and waiting for them to be revealed. It kept me hanging on from one page after to another as I raced to the end not being able to flip the pages fast enough to see each of its secrets unveiled.

I am anxiously awaiting for book two in The Sea of Her series.

I would recommend The Sea of Her to all paranormal romance fans. One-click your copy of The Sea of Her today!

‘No one has ever come near the castle—at least no one who made it back alive.’

-The Sea of Her (The Sea of Her 1),Lynn Robin.

Different…

So, let’s start off with what I liked: the story is original and intriguing. The characters are interesting. It has some good emotions and character development. There is mystery, and of course the “unknown” entity that is the King of the sea. Overall, I quite liked it!
The only thing I didn’t really like is how the story jumped from different perspectives, and seems like different tenses were used at times. So, it felt a bit unstructured which, with a good editor, can get fixed.

A slower start that other books, but it picks up speed during reading.

Leilani does not know where she is born, does not know her parents, but she has secrets that I learn during the book. Tragedy seems to stick on her like glue, happiness a distant memory.
Until she finds a boy stranded on the beach.
He is so much like her; homeless, from the sea, but they are more different than she thought.

Sea. Sand. Wicked Twins. Love. Pain. Hate. Romance. Hope. Desperation. Longing. Sea castle.
Sea creatures. This is just book one!
