About the author

Akira Toriyama (鳥山明) was a Japanese manga artist and character designer. He first achieved mainstream recognition for creating the popular manga series Dr. Slump, before going on to create Dragon Ball (his most famous work) and acting as a character designer for several popular video games such as the Dragon Quest series, Chrono Trigger, and Blue Dragon. Toriyama came to be regarded as one of the most important authors in the history of manga with his works highly influential and popular, particularly Dragon Ball, which many manga artists cite as a source of inspiration.
He earned the 1981 Shogakukan Manga Award for best shōnen/shōjo manga with Dr. Slump, and it went on to sell over 35 million copies in Japan. It was adapted into a successful anime series, with a second anime created in 1997, 13 years after the manga ended.
His next series, Dragon Ball, would become one of the most popular and successful manga in the world. Having sold 260 million copies worldwide, it is one of the best-selling manga series of all time and is considered a key work in increasing manga circulation to its peak in the mid-1980s and mid-1990s. Overseas, Dragon Ball's anime adaptations have been more successful than the manga and are credited with boosting anime's popularity in the Western world. In 2019, Toriyama was decorated a Chevalier of the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for his contributions to the arts.
In October 2024, Toriyama was inducted into the Harvey Awards Hall of Fame.

Goku completamente disinteressato delle sorti del mondo, che combatte contro Junior perché vuole vincere il torneo e non per salvare l’umanità. Palesemente già molto affezionato al suo nemico.

With this volume the first part of Dragon Ball is concluded. Before going all alien an space battle on Dragon Ball Z this was pretty down to earth (pardon the pun) and fun ride.

While I loved most of this first part except all of Muten Roshi's stupid pervertness, unfortunately I feel like Dragon Ball becomes a bit repetitive after a while. Even then Toriyama sensei almost never missed his mark with all the characters and wacky settings.

Really looking forward to start Part 2 (DBZ) soon after taking a little break and continue the adventure with Goku and co.

Un volume che è tutto un combattimento! Goku riesce finalmente a vincere il torneo e salva il mondo, anche se quest'ultimo elemento non è che gli stesse proprio a cuore durante la sfida con Piccolo. XD Ora che Piccolo non rappresenta più una minaccia, chi sarà il prossimo nemico per Goku?

Pertarungan sengit antara Son Goku dan Piccolo terjadi di volume ini. Piccolo ingin membalas dendam kepada Goku yang telah mengalahkannya tiga tahun lalu. Mengetahui hal itu, Kami-sama sang dewa bumi sudah berencana untuk mengalahkan sendiri Piccolo dengan menyamar menjadi orang biasa dan mengikuti kompetisi beladiri, tanpa bantuan Goku. Mereka saling berhadapan di semifinal dan Piccolo berhasil mengalahkan Kami-sama dengan jurus 'Mafuba Reversed' sehingga malah Kami-sama yang masuk ke dalam botol kecil.

Karena Kami-sama gagal dan kalah di semifinal, Piccolo pun akhirnya yang melangkah ke final untuk melawan Goku. Mereka berdua sudah menampilkan jurus-jurus dahsyat sejak awal duel, membuat para penonton terkesima. Namun, karena Piccolo berencana membunuh Goku, lantas jurus berbahaya dikeluarkan. Ditambah, akhirnya para penonton tahu bahwa peserta di final adalah Piccolo yang mana sebelumnya ingin menghancurkan dunia. Mereka pun panik berlarian menjauhi arena duel.

Setelah perkelahian yang melelahkan dan organ tubuh Goku banyak yang dicederai Piccolo, akhirnya Goku berhasil mengalahkan Piccolo. Akan tetapi ketika Kami-sama ingin membunuh Piccolo, Goku melarangnya karena ia tidak ingin Kami-sama ikut mati. Lantas, tanpa diduga, Goku membiarkan Piccolo hidup dan membuat teman-temannya khawatir dengan keputusannya itu.

Arriviamo alla finale del torneo Tenkaichi. Il premio in palio è il mondo, ma Son Goku rimane lo stesso nonostante la posta in gioco. Ed ora siamo arrivati ad un punto narrativo e senza anticipazioni. Ma la storia prosegue, quindi vedremo...

Scontro letteralmente epico tra Goku e Junior con disegni fantastici. Inoltre leggere questo volume subito dopo aver saputo della scomparsa del grande maestro Toriyama é ancora più da brividi.

Ce tome couvre la seconde partie du 23ème Tenkaichi Budokai et plus exactement la deuxième demi-finale entre Shen (a.k.a. Kami-Sama) et Piccolo puis la finale entre Goku et Piccolo.

Clairement l'un des meilleurs combats de Dragon Ball (si ce n'est le meilleur (spécifiquement dans DB), pour moi).

Dernier tome couvrant Dragon Ball. Hâte d'arriver à DBZ.

Piccolo va bientôt découvrir qu'il a un cœur.
