Whisper Lake #6

Tangled up in You

Rate this book
Molly Trent is an adventurous, free spirit whose turbulent childhood has driven her to a new mission in life—to make people feel better. Unfortunately, a series of burglaries at her new wellness shop put her in the path of a cynical and suspicious detective, who thinks she does more harm than good. She's used to criticism, but she sees something in the tightly controlled police detective that she wants to unleash, if only she could get him to trust her.

Trust doesn't come easily to Detective Adam Cole. He has been a loner for as long as he can remember. He's very good at protecting people. He's great at being a friend, but relationships that go beyond that—not so much. After a heartbreaking tragedy in his early twenties, he put up walls that are never coming down. Despite what Molly Trent might think, he does not need help or herbs to be happy.

Unfortunately, what he needs is her. The chemistry between them almost makes him wonder if she hasn't cast some sort of spell over him. But he fights their attraction hard, because he doesn't do forever, and he can't imagine that an optimistic romantic like Molly would settle for anything less. But when they get tangled up in life and love, anything can happen…

I'm such a big fan of Barbara Freethy's books, and this book did not disappoint. While this book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone, but the series is well worth the read.

Molly has an inherited a business which includes living quarters. Her life has been a bit temporary, so the idea of planting roots is scary for her. She once lived in Whisper Lake as a teen and befriended Phoebe, who owned the business. She is determined to see this as a new start and hopefully plant roots. She has several "run-ins" with Adam, a detective of Whisper Lake, and he has been a supporting character in the series. Adam is attracted but he is about structure and order and she is the opposite. Molly has had a couple of break-ins in her shop but can't believe there is something of value that would warrant repeated attempts. Adam is investigating the break-ins and soon learns that there is something of tremendous value that has revealed many suspects. The walls that Molly and Adam have put up are crumbling as their attraction is growing. They decide to act on their feelings and everything feels hopeful until a visitor from Molly's path threatens to change that. Adam is also narrowing down the case and discovers that Molly could be in danger.

I won't spoil the ending as the story was so good and it has an easy flow where it's hard to put down. The characters are likable and endearing and it's the main reason that I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Welcome back to Whisper Lake!

Back to old friends and new friends!

This is Molly and Adam’s story!
An instant attraction, that neither has time for but cannot stop.

Molly has inherited her recently deceased friends business and apartment, the one place she always felt like she belonged, however she doesn’t do roots and likes the freedom to pick up whenever she can.

Adam is all Whisper Lake, his friends and family and career are deeply rooted .

Barbara Freethy has woven her magic once again in this wonderful book!

Molly may have felt that she had a good life growing up, but I felt sorry for her as her mother never stayed in one place for long. Molly’s mother was so charismatic she was always able to talk Molly into anything and believing that adventure was good and roots bad. The place Molly loved the most growing up was Whisper Lake. Molly made a good friend in and older woman Phoebe who owned a health and wellness store that Molly worked at. When Phoebe passes away, she leaves the store and building to Molly. I love Whisper Lake and how Molly’s old friends welcomed her back and made her feel at home. It was funny how Molly kept literally running into Adam who is a cop. Adam had something happen to him when he was younger and became very conservative and protective of everyone. The fun Adam was gone until he started helping Molly with some break ins in her new shop. Molly was Impulsive and so much fun. I loved some of the adventures she talked Adam into. There was also a mystery that needed to be solved which made for some exciting happenings. I strongly encourage you to read the book.

Tangled Up In You is the 6th book in the Whisper Lake series by author Barbara Freethy. We have the story of Molly Trent and Adam Cole. Molly has inherited a wellness shop in Whisper Lake. Molly feels at home in Whisper Lake but does not do roots and wants the freedom to be able to pick up and leave. Adam is a detective in the Whisper Lake Police Department. Adam's life is rooted deeply with his friends, family and career in Whisper Lake. Molly and Adam's story shows what happens when opposite personalities are attracted to each other and how each will react. I love series books because I can check in with all my favorite characters from past stories but you can read Tangled Up In You as a stand alone book. I highly recommend this book for an enjoyable visit back to Whisper Lake.

Finding Home

I always enjoy Ms. Freethy's novels. Her stories bring happiness to readers as characters find their way to love. I will admit I found some things in the novel to be a little too pat to feel believable, but I still enjoyed the read.

Ok read, liked the characters, but the timing was too rushed. I couldn’t buy into any depth of feeling from the protagonists at that pace.

Barbara Freethy has done it again! I absolutely loved Tangled Up in You, it is an incredible love at first sight love story. It is the sixth book in the Whisper Lake series. Each book in the series gets better and better, but I think that Tangled Up in You is my favorite story in the series so far. Barbara Freethy has once again shown that she is an amazing storyteller. I could not put it down. I loved every moment on every page. I really enjoy how the book is told from the perspective of the main characters. I love getting the insight and feelings from the different characters. Tangled Up in You is a love at first sight love story and is filled with heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. I love the lighter moments where I find myself smiling and laughing out loud. My favorite moments are the ones that pull at my heartstrings that cause me to sigh, as I read the heartbreaking moments. Tangled Up in You is filled with such moments, and with so much emotion. It is filled with all those things that we have come to love and expect in a Barbara Freethy love story, especially the poignant and bittersweet moments that filled this page turner. I love how Barbara Freethy always manages to create the "perfect" heroine, who is a strong, sassy woman on her own, to balance out the sexy, swoon worthy man. Tangled Up in You is the story of Adam Cole, Whisper Lake police detective and Molly Trent, new owner of A Better You. Molly and Adam meet when Molly accidentally runs into an injured Adam running after someone broke into A Better You. Molly recently inherited A Better You from Phoebe Haller following her unexpected recent death. Molly spent some of her high school years in Whisper Lake working for Phoebe. Conversation between Molly and Adam flows so easily, I love that both Molly and Adam share secrets with one another that they have not shared with anyone before, especially his feelings about what happened with Gina that Adam reveals to Molly. I love that they were both so vulnerable and that they both change because they are willing to take the risk to have a relationship, something neither one of them wanted to do in the past. As Molly and Adam spend time together, with Adam investigating the break ins, things change between them. I love all the changes that Molly was willing to make in her life, because she wants a future with Adam. I loved the multiple plot twists in the story, and how they are all so wonderfully resolved in this incredible love story. I loved that Tangled Up in You is a more than just a romance, there are dilemmas that both Molly and Adam are facing that need to be resolved. I love that there were multiple storylines: Molly’s fear of staying in one place, Adam’s recovery from his injury, the mystery behind Caroline Montgomery’s missing diamond, but most importantly Molly and Adam’s love story. I love how all the storylines get so beautifully resolved. Love Molly’s heart-to-heart with her mother, Diana. I love all the descriptions of the Whisper Lake setting that Barbara Freethy detailed, it makes me want to visit. Tangled Up in You is filled with the poignant and bittersweet moments in the story as well as the plot twists, that I have come to love and expect in Barbara Freethy's stories. I love the cast of characters in Tangled Up in You, and I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series. Who doesn’t love family and friends that always have each other’s backs? Reading Tangled Up in You felt like a family reunion, because the reader was able to catch up with the other characters in the series. I love Molly’s interactions with Chloe, Hannah, Lizzie, and Chelsea, they felt like real friends, but my favorite part was Adam’s exchanges with his sisters. My favorite part was the epilogue and how it went above the happily ever after, especially with Adam’s proposal. Love what Molly did with Phoebe’s ashes. I thoroughly enjoyed Tangled Up in You, who doesn’t love a love at first sight love story. Highly recommend this incredible love story and am so looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Molly and Adam's story is a great addition to the Whisper Lake series! Molly Trent and Detective Adam Cole couldn't be more opposite. Adam has lived almost his entire life in Whisper Lake other than a few years when he lived in Denver. After suffering a horrible tragedy, Adam has chosen to live his life with caution and always planning ahead. On the other hand, Molly has never stayed in any one place longer than 2 years since she was born. Her mother was always searching for the next adventure with Molly along for the ride. The longest she'd ever been in one place were the two years Molly spent living in Whisper Lake where she had made a lot of great friends and had gotten a job working at a wellness store called, "A Better You". The owner, Phoebe, had been like a grandmother to Molly. But just before Molly's graduation, her mother moved them away again. Years later, Molly finds out that Phoebe has passed and left her store and apartment to Molly. Now Molly had come back to Whisper Lake and is wondering if she can really stay in one place long enough to make a life for herself.

When Molly literally runs into Adam one day outside her store, they feel an instant connection. Can Molly help Adam learn to let go and just enjoy each day as it comes? And can Adam convince Molly that some things are worth staying for?

Barbara Freethy has written another amazing story full of wonderful characters, a hint of mystery, and lots of romance. Once you start this story you won't be able to put it down!

I love the Whisper Lake series. I want to move to this small mountain town. I love the characters, the atmosphere, and the sense of closeness with everyone.

Molly inherited a wellness shop from a dear friend who passed away unexpectedly. Little did she know she was inheriting a lot more than a shop. She was inheriting a whole lot of trouble.

Adam has a tragic past with a girlfriend dying in front of him and him feeling guilty over the whole thing. Ever since that day, he became less of a risk taker, only did what was safe and never really lived. Then comes in Molly who knocks him over, literally. And ever since that encounter his life has been turned upside down.

Molly has someone who keeps breaking into her new shop and she doesn't know why, until she is visited by a lawyer who informs here there may be a $3 million dollar diamond in one of the many boxes that she has. The break ins are starting to make sense now and Adam is on the case to figure out who is all involved in this stolen property.

I loved how Molly finally wanted to grow roots after her many years of moving and living in new places. Maybe she has found her home and just maybe she found the love of her life, Adam. Even though he is a bit reluctant and apprehensive to get involved, but he caves and is so happy that he does.

Just a cute romantic story with a bit of suspense thrown in. Loved visiting Whisper Lake again!

Molly has inherited a business unexpectedly from a woman she worked for when she was a teenager. She and her mother left Whisper Lake and haven't returned since. Adam is a police detective who works for the Whisper Lake Police Force, but was injured in the line of duty so he has some time on his hands. They actually collide when they meet and both are thrown off. Adam is a very cautious person and Molly is a free spirit who likes to go where the mood takes her. They are like oil and water it would seem. Adam has a reason for being the way he is and so does Molly. Neither are looking for a relationship but can't stop the attraction they feel for each other. It did seem like Molly pushed Adam quite a bit and I was not really a fan of that. He had a traumatic event take place in his past and she didn't need to know all of the details. She was pretty closed-lipped when it came to her own life so I found that to be hypocritical on her end. She also seemed to connect with all of Adam's friends right away. Their story had a few ups and downs and it was a mystery why someone was after something that Phoebe had. I had guessed what the real story between Caroline and Phoebe was. I wanted more of a connection between Adam and Molly and less of them in group settings. For me, it was a good book, but I wanted more of an ending for them too.

Molly, a free spirit, brought up by her mom who couldn't stay rooted in one place. Moving-on, is all Molly has ever done. As a teenager, she lived in Whisper Lake for 2 glorious years and made friends with the owner of the shop where she worked. Now she's inherited the shop and moved back to Whisper Lake.

Adam, a young man with a curmudgeonly attitude, has become a Whisper Lake Police Detective after moving there when his sisters decided to make it their home. He was injured in the line of duty while saving a young girl, and is out on disability while recovering. Now he's investigating why Molly's shop has been targeted by burglars.

Molly and Adam meet by running into each other...literally...and our story takes off.

Will Adam be able to figure out why Molly's shop keeps getting broken in to? Will Molly stay in Whisper Lake or will she take the 'trip of a lifetime' with her mom? Can Adam's 'never fall in love' mantra be changed? Can Molly trust her feelings or will she take off at the first sign of trouble.

I think this is my favorite Whisper Lake novel yet! I love going back to this lovely place in the Rockies. Barbara Freethy writes stories I want to read. Keep them coming please.

Tangled Up in You is the 6th book in the Whisper Lake series by Barbara Freethy. As always the characters are well written and you feel as if you are in the story.

Molly Trent grew up in a gypsie lifestyle, moving around often at her single mother’s whim. Molly enjoyed their adventures but longed for roots and stability. When an old friend left her a wellness store in Whisper Lake, Molly was determined to make the place her own and start a life for herself.

Adam Cole had a solid upbringing, family and friends are a huge part of his life. Adam works as a police officer for the Whisper Lake Police Department.

Molly literally crashes into Adam and thier adventure begins. Molly reunites with her old friends from when she lived in Whisper Lake as a teenager. Adam is friends and family with these same people.

While Molly tries to get her store up and running, someone keeps trying to break in. Adam helps her to try and find out what is going on. As they spend more time together, they cannot deny their attraction to each other.

When Molly’s mom flits into town with another adventure in mind. Will Molly run off with her mom or finally get those roots she has been longing for?

Tangled Up in You is the sixth book in the Whisper Lake Series. It can be read as a standalone, but I recommend the whole series if you haven’t tried it already.

I’ve been waiting for a while to see who Detective Adam Cole wound up with. He’s also always been a good friend and sibling, but he’s also serious and stays away from relationships due to what happened to his last serious girlfriend. Molly Trent is the opposite of Adam; a fun, free-spirit who longs to have roots, as her mother kept moving her from town to town when she was a child. Whisper Lake had been the place they stayed the longest, and after Molly inherits a store from an old friend, she returns to the town.

I enjoyed watching Molly break down Adam’s walls as he tries to show her that Whisper Lake is the place she can finally call home. There’s some mystery as to who keeps breaking into the store and why, as well as some suspense and angst mixed in.

Readers both new and old to Whisper Lake will enjoy this latest addition to the series.

I am always ready for a return trip to Whisper Lake. I love the small town and the friendly people who live there. Barbara Freethy is a master of suspense and romance. She makes her characters come to life on the page.

Molly’s childhood without roots has made it difficult for her to remain in one place for more than a year or two. Will inheriting her friend’s health and wellness shop convince her to settle down and stay in Whisper Lake?

Detective Adam Cole has taken on the roll of protector of the small town of Whisper Lake following a tragic incident in his past. He has trust and commitment issues. When Molly needs his help he is more than ready to help, but he is all business. Remaining all business where Molly is concerned is more difficult than he anticipated.

I thoroughly enjoyed Tangled Up In You. I recommend it and all the books in the Whisper Lake series. Ms. Freethy never fails to deliver amazing romantic suspense stories that engage the reader from the beginning to the last page.

I received an ARC of Tangled Up In You from the author in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Love reading all the books in the series taking place at Whisper Lake. There’s a magic to this small town, and it’s like reuniting with old friends as you read the next installment. When Molly finds out that a beloved friend from her past left her beloved healing shop in her will to her, she was excited to begin a new adventure back in Whisper Lake. Having been raised by a single mom who never stayed put, Molly doesn’t know if she’ll stay put. Adam is a detective who is helping solve break ins at the shop. Trying to solve the mystery of who keeps breaking in and what they’re looking for keeps Adam and Molly in close contact. Add the immediate and instant attraction, and the fact that they always run into each other, it’s hard for them to deny that they need to get together. Will Molly’s need for wanderlust, and Adam’s need to never commit due to an earlier heartbreak keep them apart? Loved how they both connected with the other, also trying to figure out the mystery. Love story from beginning to end. Unexpected and heartwarming ending. Loved it.

Full disclosure — I have yet to read a Barbara Freethy book that I did not enjoy. TANGLED UP IN YOU is no exception. It has everything I’ve come to expect from Freethy: beautifully written characters with flaws or histories that affect their current decisions plus a bit of mystery/suspense to add some spice.

Heroine Molly Trent has lived a life on the road, thanks to her mother who uprooted the two of them as the whim moved her. But Molly has fond memories of the town Whisper Lake. When she inherits a wellness store that meant much to her teenage self, she decides to return.

She meets Detective Adam Cole, who has adopted the town after his various siblings moved their and put down roots. He faced tragedy when he was younger, and it influences the distance he maintains in his personal relationships.

Mix in Adam’s siblings, Molly’s feelings of responsibility to her benefactor and a young man Adam has taken under his wing, and you have a small-town romance that will keep you turning the pages.

This book was a great addition to the Whisper Lake series! I loved getting updates on some of my favorite characters, and meeting some new ones in this book! I’ve been waiting to see who Adam would end up with for a while. Adam is a detective in Whisper Lake with a very serious demeanor, who had a very bad experience with love in his past. Molly is a wandering free spirit who comes to Whisper Lake because an old friend from her past leaves her health and wellness business and apartment to her. These two characters could not be more different, but each time they run into each other, often literally, their attraction can’t be denied. In addition to the developing relationship storyline, there is also a mystery storyline about someone who keeps breaking into Molly’s new business and what are they looking for? Another great book filled with mystery and romance by Barbara Freethy!

Molly spent a couple years in Whisper Lake as a teenager and has felt like that's "home" even though she's never been in one place very long. When she inherits a business complete with living quarters, it's her chance to really put down roots, which she wants to do but wonders if she really can. Adam is a police officer in town and has family and many friends, relationships that Molly envies. They are quite attracted to each other but Adam has decided to take on the role of protector of all because he still feels guilt over his past. Someone breaks into Molly's store multiple times which buts her in some danger. Adam wants to protect her and find out who is breaking in and why. Question is, can he protect his heart because the draw to Molly is strong. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my review.

Adam doesn't want to get seriously involved with anyone, doesn't want to love... Molly doesn't want to create roots, doesn't know if she'll be able to stay in one place for the rest of her life.

But when Molly returns to Whisper Lake, the only place she's ever made friends and wanted to stay forever, she not only reconnects with old friends, she makes new friends and bumps into (literally) Detective Adam Cole, handsome, serious and hot.

Could it be that fate, the universe wants them together? When it becomes impossible not to meet and each one gives one of their life beliefs they become friends, lovers and they find together much more than love.

Another book by this author who writes love stories, mixed with family, friendship and mystery in an exemplary way. I love every Barbara Freethy book I've ever read.

Tangled Up in You is the sixth book in the Whisper Lake Series written by Barbara Freethy. This book and the entire series are awesome you don’t want to miss any of them. When reading a book by Barbara Freethy I make sure my schedule is clear so I can spend the day reading. I don’t know how she does it but every book is better than the last, also very new and exciting. This book is no different; I did not want to put it down. I had to find out what is happening. I picked up the book only intending to read a couple of chapters and several hours later I had read the whole book. I was totally engaged from start to finish. If you’ve never read a Barbara Freethy book get one and see what you are missing.

Welcome back to Whisper Lake, the kind of small town you’d want to live in, with characters you’d want for friends. This is the 6th in a series and while it’s a standalone you will get glimpses of the characters from the previous books. This is a great opposites attract story, involving tightly controlled police detective Adam falling for newcomer & free spirited Molly. Molly has just returned to Whisper Lake after inheriting her friend’s wellness shop. She literally runs into Adam after a break in at her new store. Their chemistry is instant, and the combination of solving the mystery and exploring their feelings makes for a great story, beautifully written in Barbara Freethy’s signature style. If you aren’t reading Barbara’s books, you should be!!

Barbara Freethy continues to be one of my favorite romance authors. And Whisper Lake is a favorite series. She has created a wonderful, warm caring place with people I would love to get to know. Molly and Adam are opposites....and we all know what happens when opposites get together! Especially when you add nighttime skinny dipping and a bear skin rug!!!
There is a bit of a mystery in this story too which adds some great tension to the story and helps to deliver a beautiful conclusion. Even though this is the 6th in the series it can be read as a standalone.
So...sit back and enjoy another romantic trip to Whisper Lake.
Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I find that the more I read books by Barbara Freethy, the more I love this author. She has such an easy to read writing style and her character development is superb. I have read enough of the Whisper Lake series that I feel as though I could walk through the town and say hello to all my friends there.
This book was one of my favorites. I actually found myself talking to my husband today, sharing with him how much I identified with one of the main characters (Adam) and how I realized parts of myself I need to change. He isn’t the only one that Molly was able to influence in a positive way.
Freethy is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors and I’m already anticipating the next book in this series as well as her others.

Another great mystery and romance for the Whisper Lake series! I admit to being surprised - I always thought Adam would end up with Chloe and yet his story finds him drawn to Molly. Molly lived in Whisper Lake as a teen, but her free spirit mother took her away. She had been close to Phoebe, an owner of a store, and comes back when Phoebe dies and leaves her store to her. Meanwhile, someone keeps breaking into the store looking for something.

The mystery draws you in and the romance is sweet as Adam and Molly figure out how to be together given their differences. Freethy has another winner and all I can say is - then who the heck does Chloe end up with??

Thanks to the author for a review copy.

How much do childhood and young adult experiences impact your adult life? Both Adam and Molly are aware of their decisions and actions as a result. Adam wants to control his life and is the ultimate protector. Molly is a free spirit and moves every two years or even less. But sparks fly between these two characters. Barbara Freethy once again brings her books to life with her multifaceted characters. As Adam and Molly work together to solve the break ins at Molly’s store they also explore a relationship….and those things from their pasts have an impact. I loved their interactions with the other characters in Whisper Lake. It really made me want to read all the books again. Barbara Freethy has another 5 star read.

Whisper Lake is one of my favorite book series. Tangled Up in You did not disappoint! The characters and settings come to life with Barbara Freethy’s talented writing. I feel like I’m visiting friends in a charming little town. I love the relationships between the characters, they are so believable and relatable. I love reading about the close relationships between all of the friends. It was so much fun watching the relationship grow between Molly and Adam. I had been anxiously awaiting Adam’s story. If you haven’t visited Whisper Lake yet, I highly recommend reading this series. This book can be read alone but with characters from previous books in the storyline, I recommend reading the books in order. I hope there are more books to come in this series.

Tangled up in you is the sixth book in the Whisper Lake series and it follows Molly and Adam in this small town romance. I have read most of the books written by author Barbara Freethy and this one just topped my favourite list. This book was a true love story right from the beginning it will grip you emotionally from the first page & will leave you guessing who the real culprit is.
Molly had a difficult childhood which made it difficult for her to remain in one place. Adam has had a tragic past and has trust and commitment issues.

Barbara Freethy's Whisper Lake series involve mystery/romances. Two genres which I have read much lately. When I started her series, I started at #4 and liked is so much--she is a 'G' rated writer--love is in your imagination, she does not spell it out in every detail. In Tangled up in You, our hero Adam is a police officer who moved to Whisper Lake to be where his sisters lived and also in a place he liked. Our heroine had lived in Whisper Lake as a teen and loved it, but her wanderlust mom moved them again. Phoebe, the teen's employer, died unexpectedly and left her store, etc. to Molly Trent. Molly was at a crossroads in her young life and moved back. The mystery involves a diamond and Adam helps Molly and they fall in love--a great story.

Whisper Lake at its best, with action, suspense and romance.
When Molly is wanting to change jobs she suddenly inherits the well-being store she worked in as a teenager with Phoebe at Whisper Lake where she is reunited with her high school friends. But trouble was afoot when the store is broken into several times, which brought her to the attention of Detective Adam Cole. Adam struggles with his own issues but can Molly help him as they try and solve the reasons behind the break ins or will she follow her mother and leave? I loved this story as the next instalment of the Whisper Lake series.

Tangled Up in You is a sweet addition to the Whisper Lake series. Uptight Detective Adam meets spontaneous Molly in the line of duty. Series fans will love the updates on various residents as they embrace Molly back into their lives after she gets an inheritance from a town favorite. The mystery is handled well as are the reasons why these two are reluctant to admit their attraction. The story is a little more angsty than this reader usually likes, but Ms. Freethy definitely kept me engaged until the last period. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book. Most highly recommend.
