The Perfect Family Man

Rate this book
Five years ago, my little boy went missing. Now my husband’s vanished, too.

I wish I could say that the tragedy of little Jack disappearing brought me and Nate closer together. But my husband is more distant from me now than he’s ever been. Perhaps that’s why I don’t ask him exactly where he’s going when he sets off on another business trip.

Or perhaps I was too distracted by the woman moving in across the street with bouncing blonde hair and a cherubic toddler boy. He reminds me so much of the child I lost. But his mother doesn’t seem to properly watch him. And I can’t be sure, but I’m sure Nate and this woman share a look of recognition before he leaves.

The first day Nate’s away, things feel okay, even though I know when he returns we’re going to have to discuss what I found in his coat pocket. But one day turns into two, and then three. I don’t want to seem like the crazy wife, but I have to call his work and ask what’s going on. And that’s when they tell me the shocking truth.

Nate hasn’t worked for the company in six months.

Once I’ve found this lie, it’s hard not to pick at the scab of our marriage, see what other secrets lie beneath his apparent love for me. By the end of the week, I hope I might finally learn the truth about my husband, about the woman across the street, and about what really happened to my little boy.

Five years ago, my little boy went missing. Now my husbands vanished, too. I wish I could say that the tragedy of little Jack disappearing brought me and Nate closer together. But my husband is more distant from me now than he's ever been. Perhaps that why I don't ask him exactly where he is going when he sets off on another business trip. Or perhaps I was too distracted by the woman moving in across the street with bouncing brown hair and a cherubic toddler boy.

Olivia is grieving the loss of her son Jack who went missing five years ago Her husband Nate is about to leave for a business trip when Olivia discovers the Lake House across the street, that's been empty for five years, is now sold. The new neighbour had a son who reminds Olivia of her son Jack. Then Nate disappears.

What a rollercoaster read this is. The pace is slow for about 30%, The chapters are written in the now and then format. The twists kept coming and the characters were believable. Secrets were revealed along the way. I quite liked this book.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #Canelo and the author #MMDeluca for my ARC of #ThePerfectFamilyMan in exchange for an honest review.

This was a great story with an ending you wouldn’t expect. Nate and Olivia take their young son to a party across the street when he suddenly goes missing under Nates watch.
Cut to five years later Nate and Olivia are barely a couple. Nate going on business trips a lot then one day not returning from one.
Olivia has no idea where or what happened to him.
When she starts to do some digging he’s not the man he claims to be.
A lot like The marriage lie with different twists and ending.
The story was much better than the writing imo. I had to find out what happened so it kept my interest.
I enjoyed it

Five years ago Olivia’s son goes missing. Then her husband disappears. Olivia goes on a hunt to find out where her husband is and who he really is.

This was a good story, plenty of twists. But…….it was very slow at the beginning. I found it quite boring in places, alot of things being dragged out that didn’t need to be, but it all added up in the end.

The perfect family man is released on the 21st October 2021.
Thank you to Netgalley, Canelo publishers and M. M. Deluca for a free digital advanced copy of the perfect man in exchange for my fair and honest opinions.

The perfect family man is centred around livia and her husband Nate. When they goes on a business trip he doesn't return home, Olivia starts to become worried the worst is once again happening. When she bumps into high school friend Stefan who is now a police officer she finds herself leaning on him to uncover the disappearance of her husband. What she digs up is far worse than she ever expected and sends her world spinning.

olivia is our lead protagonist and I really enjoyed the way they author flips back and forth from her teenage years to her current day. As a leading lady it is clear that she has gone through a lot of trauma in her past. So early on it was really easy to feel sympathetic towards her current situation and in all honesty a little confused at where the storyline was going to take us. I must admit I was not expecting the story to go as it were but I loved the way the character progresses throughout the story. She sort of starts off as a busybody neighbour to doing her own investigation. It is clear that when she reconnect with her friends Stefan n that he provides Olivia with the confidence that husband clearly doesn’t. After such tragedy in her life it is no wonder she is the character that we meet at the beginning of the book but what is great is the personal growth that we get to be apart of as readers.

Is really interesting because we as readers don’t get to know anything about Nate so we don’t really know the Nate that Olivia have been married for the last eight years we know the mate that she uncovers information about. It kind of went from one thing to the other to another to another it kinda got a bit crazy but I loved every second of it. I did question early on why they were still together but as I continue to read the book it became more clear that if anything it was more Olivia’s need to be close to the neighbouring house that kept them where they are and obligation that kept him with her. So when lie after lie after lie after lie is exposed it wasn’t surprising but also it kind of was if that makes any sense?

I really like Stefan’s character but I must say I’m all about independent women and inner strength and I did find that a little bit of a let down that his arrival is what really perks her up as a character and helps her on her journey of discovery but I do understand why the author included his character it’s very poignant for her journey I suppose?! However he was really nice character so I can’t complain he was nice and his clear devotion to his friend is so obvious I couldn’t help but ask throughout why they weren’t married? But as you wait only time will tell. You will find that Stefan has such strong links to her past that going between past and present is really important to lay the groundwork to understand the importence of their friendship and the significance that it did have at the time for Olivia’s life an well being.

As a genre psychological thrillers you expect twists and turns all over the place I must say there were a lot more twists and turns in this than in some recent psychological thrillers I have read so that did make it a little bit more interesting. There were some that I had seen coming an others that well completely sideways but either way I enjoyed every aspect of this book. This is my first time reading a book by M. M. Deluca but I will be reading more from their collection as I found the prose was written so well throughout even in a book that is written in third person which isn’t my prefered but here this made absolutely no difference in this instance as it was enthralling and riveting so I didn’t care who was telling me what was going on I just wanted to know!

Would I recommend the perfect family man? Yes I would highly recommend it to anyone who really enjoys the genre psychological thrillers slash psychological dramas was full of mystery and I enjoyed the fact that we had to uncover what was going on along with the lead pragmatists instead of being fed information that quite often we are as readers that the main character isn’t privetik. This made it more exciting for every lead that she received to find out what bomb is going to be dropped next get summation mark and let’s just say there was a lot of bombs! It’s not even one of those books where you wanna guess how it ends because to be honest yeah you might see one thing or another thing come in but so much goes on that actually poo if you manage to get some more than you need to start writing because you have a very good mind. I would rate this book 4.5 stars out of five I really really enjoyed reading thisbook. I suppose I’m not rating it 5 purely because a lot did seem to be happeningbut I must say all of which are rounded off and ended perfectly well never to the latter part of the book.

Olivia hasn't had an easy life. Her brother died in a fire when she was a teenager, and her son Jack disappeared five years ago. This understandably caused a strain on her marriage and she knows her husband has been distant--but she never expect him to go missing, too. As she tries to figure out what happened to him, friends materialize from her past and she has to ask herself--are all these disasters connected?

DeLuca does an excellent job of delving deep into her characters, alternating between past and present to give insight into who they are and what they're hiding, and dropping clues. It's a novel that simmers to a rolling boil as everything Olivia discovers comes together into a dramatic and explosive finale. If you're looking for a twisty, character-driven psychological thriller, this book is for you!

First mystery.

Loved how this storytelling put me into a moody lake community. Every scene described in detail that had me in a movie. My own interpretation. My own movie.

The protagonist suffers with real tangible depression and you can really empathize with her.

This story is what happens when a partner who has built her life on lies she knows nothing about, has her whole world come crashing down.

Loved how fast I read through it. Can't wait to read more of M. M. DeLuca.

An easy read with plenty of twists and unexpected turns. Definitely a thriller. As I was reading, it brought back many unfortunate memories of people that I have seen experience the same true stories in real life as were written in this book.

I enjoyed this book very much. Many plot twists and an expertly woven back story makes this one hard to put down.

I started out not really caring for the main character as she was much more interested in her new neighbors than her own husband but, as the story unfolds we see the reasons why she is so distracted and distant. After suffering many past traumas it seems only answers will bring her out of this funk. Olivia finds her stride midway through the book and turns into the strong female lead I love to read about.

Kudos to the author for writing a great mystery/domestic thriller. I look forward to her other books!

This book was pretty good, as far as domestic thrillers go. They're not usually my cuppa, but I gave it a shot.

I'll say this, the first few chapters pissed me off. The husband was a cold, unfeeling ass. The new neighbor is an entitled, snobby bish, and the main character just seems so wishy-washy.

It gets better, but not a WHOLE lot. It's really easy to tell the good guys from the bad. A little too easy for my tastes.

Overall, not a terrible read. Not one I'd read again though.

Thank you to Netgalley.com, M. M. DeLuca and Canelo Publishing for allowing me to read this ARC. All opinions are my own.

The perfect family man by M.M. DeLuca.
Five years ago, my little boy went missing. Now my husband’s vanished, too.
Wow a brilliant read. I read this in one sitting couldn't put it down. I loved Olivia and how she wouldn't stop fighting to find out what happened to her son Jack and husband Nate. This was a twisty suspence read. The only thing I didn't like was the then and now. I thoroughly enjoyed it apart from that. 5*.

I found this thriller too predictable and there were not enough twists for my personal liking. The first half of the book was very captivating and I was completely immersed in it. The second half/ending fell flat for me.
I enjoyed the writing tremendously, but felt like this one didn’t give the reader enough excitement. I will definitely check out another book by this author as I did enjoy her writing style. ❤️

Synopsis: 5 years ago , Olivia’s young son vanished and has never been found. Now, her husband is on a business trip and doesn’t come home. When she checks with his boss she finds out he doesn’t work there anymore. What happened to him? And why has he been lying? And who’s this suspicious woman across the street who seems to mistreat her child ?

Review: basic storyline, the ending was a big surprise but also a quite unrealistic, tied up too nicely ending. If you want simple mystery and can overlook some really unrelated elements you might enjoy this.

3.5 stars. This book kept me very interested from beginning to end. The main character’s young son disappeared five years ago, and now her husband also appears to have disappeared. While the beginning is slow, things start to happen at the halfway mark. But unlike other readers, I did not find anything surprising, things unwound exactly as I had anticipated they would. There were no 90° turns in the plot or the characters behaviors. Nevertheless, it was a super quick book to read, and I enjoyed the plot, the characters, and the writing.

Five years ago, Olivia's little boy goes missing and quite rightly she can never get over it but this is pushing her further away from her husband and when he goes on one of his routine work business trips, Olivia can't get hold of him and now she's wondered if he has gone missing too especially when she finds out he hasn't worked at the company for 6 months.

I actually really enjoyed this book, there's so many lies that Olivia doesn't know about and the more she looks into things the more she discovers and she's just trying to get through each day without her son but the secrets are driving her so insane she wants to discover more no matter how much danger she puts herself in.

Book review - The Perfect Family Man, M. M. Deluca.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A perfect mystery-thriller with the right amount of twists throughout. I found this the perfect mix of twists I had my suspicions on and ones that I hadn’t had a clue about! I was pleasantly surprised throughout!

Olivia has had her fair share of tragedy. The death of her brother, the loss of her child and now the disappearance of her husband. When she hasn’t heard from her husband in over a week, she calls his boss to find out exactly where he is on this “business trip”. From this phone call, she begins to realise that the man she married has lots of secrets. Who is Nate Barnett and why does bad things always seem to happen when he’s around?

I found this rather slow at the beginning for around 30% of the story was plot building. It was necessary though and you discover why this was needed later in the story. The way DeLuca interlinked all of the different story lines was perfect and it had the right amount of twists throughout to make me not want to put this book down. I loved the “now” and “then” approach to writing the chapters. It served the characters well as it supported their importance to the mystery.

My main criticism lies with the dialogue. I found myself grimacing at the way the characters talk. It was far too formal for the “long lost friends” DeLuca was aiming for. At times, I found myself thinking there is no way friends would speak to each other like that. There were far too many details within the dialogue that could’ve been added elsewhere to give the characters more of a realistic and relatable edge to them. A bit of dialect wouldn’t have gone amiss either - after reading Stefan’s first text to Olivia I realised this was something I needed more of!

Despite this, it was a fantastic, couldn’t-put-down mystery that had many great twists and turns interwoven throughout. The characters were great and the idea of uncovering secrets as we go always draws me into a story! I thoroughly enjoyed this read and would recommend it to all that love a mystery!

Thank you to Canelo for the ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book despite the beginning being a bit dragged out. It took a bit to really get into it, but the extra background information was helpful. the plot was good and everything connected well, but there were a few loose ends I wish were answered and I had some questions at the end. The book ended in a heartwarming way, as expected. I definitely was expecting a different ending and even hoped for a different ending, but overall I would definitely recommend this book.

My Review Of
THE PERFECT FAMILY MAN
By Author, MM Deluca
Published by Canelo 10
On Sale: 10/21/21 - Link in my Bio
*****
A psychological & absorbing plot clinger that will have you drawn into a world of a man you feel you know but then he leaves. The Author creates vivid scenes that play with your mind and make you feel as if you are the protagonist. So much pace and depth into each situation and character has you gasping and feeling things; personally taking upon yourself each new lie. It takes a very talented Author to think up and engage you in so many happenings at once. A must read!

Imagine living in world that has just dealt you blow after blow. Like what Olivia Barrett’s past was like before she married her handsome husband, Nate. Although it seems he’s been away a lot more on business and what she found in his suit jacket has her questions many things. Life is tough to get through each day ever since the disappearance of their son Jack, like how can Nate just be okay and she’s still grieving? Everyday life is a constant until the beachfront house across the street that has been for sale, finally has new neighbors. It looks to be a single mom with her son. Although it seems the neighbor is more interested in parties and strange men than she is in her son.

Ironically, a high school friend, Stefan also moves in down the street and just happens to be a police officer now. Suddenly when her husband hasn’t called and has been unable to be reached for a month has “Liv” questioning so many things. With some help from Stefan and meddling into the neighbor across the street. Liv has gotten in way over her head and the people she’s dealing with are very dangerous. Is it possible her husband is someone she didn’t even know? Could he have something to do with the disappearance of their son? Everything always come to a head and you will want to be sure to be seated.
