The news of Leo’s death arrives suddenly and completely without warning, just at the point where Lottie has come to believe their relationship has blossomed into something permanent. So much so, that she’s reached the important point of introducing him to her sisters. As Lottie struggles to cope with her grief, the reader learns about how Lottie and Leo first met and the sweet way in which their relationship developed built on a shared sense of humour, love of the music of Elton John, a easygoing sense of companionship but also that important spark of passion.  After the particularly disastrous end to her previous relationship, for the first time in many years, Lottie feels loved and supported in a partnership built on trust.

It’s no surprise therefore that when Lottie discovers that Leo had kept things from her, it only adds to her sense of despair at his death.  Why did he not tell her? Why did none of his family disclose such a vital piece of information? She spends long hours alone pondering on the things she and Leo had planned to do that now will never happen – travelling around the world, even starting a family. ‘Then, in the blink of an eye, all those dreams, all the expectation, all that happiness had been ripped away from her.’ One of the most affecting scenes for me was when Lottie finds herself alone at Leo’s funeral and on the periphery, having never been introduced to any of his family except his cousin Ross.

Usually close to her sisters, Em and Annie, Lottie’s grief makes her push them away, rebuffing all offers of help and advice. After all, how can they with their seemingly perfect lives understand what she’s going through? For a time she retreats into an imaginary world in which Leo is not dead.   But, as we learn, Lottie’s a strong person and when she finally accepts the support of her sisters, she finds the courage to embrace new opportunities.

The One is a tender and emotional story of coming to terms with loss, the importance of family through difficult times and the resilience of the human spirit.

Lottie is the central character in Claire Frosts new novel ‘The One”. Imagine twelve weeks into a relationship that you think is the most perfect relationship ever, your boyfriend suddenly dies!! It would be absolutely horrific and that’s exactly what happens and how we are introduced to Lottie.

Lottie is the middle of three sisters and living a life of mediocrity - she sees her life as average - sandwiched between two sisters that seem to have everything sorted in life. She thinks she is not as capable or clever as either of them and she doesn’t have the settled relationships they have either.

Her boyfriend Leo only held that title for twelve weeks before he suddenly died - we join Lottie as she has to begin navigating the dark path of grief and tries to overcome the feeling that she has lost her one and only chance of happiness - Leo was ‘the one’ he was perfect in every way and despite their relationship only spanning 12 short weeks she knows they were destined for a lifetime of happiness and she would have been on a par with her sisters and their settled lives.

Her journey sees her examining her relationship with Leo in minutiae, prompted and prodded by her sisters - this was at times extremely difficult to read and Lottie travelled the bumpy path of grief that finds her examining every aspect of her life. Grief, love, relationships and family all come under the spotlight and assumptions, thoughts and opinions are exposed and sees her reevaluating everything she thought she knew - this made for raw reading, as situations are turned on their head and every aspect of Lotties life is laid bare.

The One is told both in the present and the past, it recounts the short but intense relationship between Lottie and Leo, her relationship with her sisters and her work colleagues. Emotions and feelings are laid bare and honest, open conversations take place. I was cheerleading for Lottie throughout and my own emotions dipped and rose with the pacing of the story. It was at times funny, light and uplifting and at others very sad, raw and heartbreaking. I thought the author described the dynamics of the three siblings exceptionally well. Without meaning to, all too often middle children can slip under the radar and Lottie has obviously fitted herself into this role all too easily. Annie, the older sister on the face of it the strong, direct one - always in control and Em the youngest, more easy going, the relaxed stay at home mum. I loved that we got under the skin of both Laura and Em too and busted a few myths along the way.

Family dynamics are complex and not always what they seem but the fierce lion like loyalty of the sisters coming together to protect their cub ‘Lottie’ was truly beautiful to read about and Lottie got support and a hand of friendship from an unexpected source too - yes, I was willing this fledgling friendship on from the sidelines - who wouldn’t? All of whom encourage Lottie, give her the support and space to unpack her thoughts and feelings and metaphorically speaking hold her hand as she navigates a new path - this was truly lovely to read, watching her find strength and courage to move her life onwards and upwards.

The One was a book that was sad but ultimately uplifting, it was bolstered by the strength of family and friendship - openness and honesty. A beautiful story written with tenderness and sensitivity.

Oh wow, I did not read the synopsis of this book going in and so what happened within the first few pages took me completely off guard! This book reminded me of a classic Paige Toon novel wrapped up with the storytelling and heart of Miranda Dickinson. I adored every moment of it and I couldn’t wait to get in my car in the mornings and keep listening on my commute!

Lottie is a great character to spend this book with because she wears her heart on her sleeve. She is passionate about herself and her relationships, particularly her relationships with her sisters. It was such a pleasure to read about a character who is so passionate and about a character who actually has a good relationship with her family. It was a real treat. The other reason Lottie is so great to read about is because she is really relatable. She doesn’t have it all together and she doesn’t pretend to. She is fine with her job but it could be better; she is unlucky in love and she knows that she sometimes drinks too much and is guilty of the hangover fake sick call to work. I just loved this about her!

This book deals with death and this book deals with some baby loss and so you definitely need to use care and caution going in but I do think that these massive topics are dealt with as part of the story in a sensitive way and yet in a way that shows that these things are part of life and that beautiful things can also come out of them. It is rare to find a book that explores such passionate love in this way without that passion turning into pure lust and so I loved that about it. I laughed at points and I cried along with the audiobook. I loved all of the themes explored through these three sisters and I loved getting to know Lottie. She is definitely a character I would like to hear more from and I would love to know what happens to her in the future!

The One

Claire Frost writes with effortless depth and feeling. Each page is full of emotion, some of which is quite raw.
I love dual timeline stories and really enjoyed the sibling dynamics between the 3 sisters.
My heart really felt for Lottie though, as it was clear she was floundering as to how to get through each day, to continue living her life without Leo in it.
As much as there is sadness in this book, there are also lighter moments, that will make you smile and balance the mood of the book.

This is an incredibly tender story of love, heartbreak, complex family dynamics and learning to live again.

The One is a sweet, emotional read which starts with a real shock. Lottie has finally met The One, the man she wants to be with forever, called Leo. They've only known each other three months but they're utterly in love. One day, completely out of the blue, Leo dies and Lottie is left to pick up the pieces of a short-lived but very intense relationship.

This book jumps between the present day - 'after' Leo's death - and the time period leading up to it. We see how Lottie and Leo met, the way they connected and how her friends and family reacted. You really get a sense of what a huge thing this was for Lottie but we don't get that insight from Leo - we see everything through Lottie's eyes.

This novel does a good job of showing the devastating effect of grief, especially when Lottie discovers that Leo had a big secret he was hiding from her. It throws him into a new light and shows even the most romantic relationships have their issues. Would they have been able to stay together if Leo hadn't died?

The One is obviously about a very serious, sad topic - grief, loss, death - but it manages to be light-hearted too. There's (unsurprisingly) a lot of romance in there, which can feel cheesy and cloying when done wrong - but in The One it's just right for the story and the characters.

Lottie is a likeable character and, as the reader, you're rooting for her despite her faults - the fact she's not perfect makes her all the more likeable. The fact that I predicted some parts of the plot a long time before it happened didn't take away from the sweet storyline.

This book is, ultimately, a purely indulgent read, one to pick up when you fancy something enjoyable and fairly light (which again may sound odd given the subject matter) because ultimately, it is uplifting, and funny at times too.

Oh my goodness, what a rollercoaster of emotions I experienced when reading Claire Frost's new novel, The One. I absolutely loved it, despite my heart breaking, as the beautiful writing and heartwarming plot put my heart back together again. I also have to say that I think the publisher has done a wonderful job with the cover, it's stunning.

Lottie and Leo only knew each other for three months before Leo dies, so Lottie's place in the hierarchy of Leo's life is confusing to her; she's grieving his loss as his partner but she never even met his parents so she feels like a bit of a gatecrasher at his funeral. Leo's parents and his cousin, Ross, welcome Lottie into their family and you can't help but wonder what might have been.

I know it says in the blurb that Leo dies but I still got a shock. Lottie was so happy to have finally found her 'One' and she could imagine a whole future ahead of her where she would be blissfully happy, just like her sisters. Leo was everything that Lottie had ever wanted but they were still in the honeymoon period when he died so she obviously doesn't know everything about him - those old rose coloured glasses do have a lot to answer for sometimes!

I loved the relationships between Lottie and her sisters; they are like the three musketeers as they are always there for each other. They are sisters first but they're also the best of friends and I just loved how they rallied round Lottie when she was grieving. Seeing Lottie picking herself back up was so uplifting, of course she will never forget Leo but she can't give up on life...and love.

So heartbreaking but incredibly heartwarming, The One is a beautifully written novel of love and loss. It's emotional, uplifting and hopeful - a book for anyone who has ever loved and lost.

I received an ARC from the publisher to read and review for the blog tour; all opinions are my own.

I listened to the audio version of this book - brilliantly narrated and brought to life by Heather Long.

Prepare to be gut punched on the emotion front with this one! This is one of those stories that grabs you from the start and you get emotionally attached to the characters so feel their pain when loss strikes! And that's the case for poor Lottie who has discovered The One! Even after a short period of time with Leo, she knows this is something special... but then he's tragically taken from her and she's left reeling and stricken with grief.

Her sisters, her closest confidantes, are pushed away and she really struggles to deal with all that has happened to her. The story cleverly goes from the time after Leo's death, to the build up of them meeting and sharing those special months together and that really struck you just how perfect they were together. And that makes the shock reveal of him keeping something from her even more striking and it's only through his cousin, Ross, that she gets to hear more of Leo and the past she knew nothing of. Would it have changed things if she'd known? One of those moments that gets you thinking of just how you'd handle something like that.

This is a really well told story, full of emotion but of hope and showing the grief process in all it's brutal glory and finding that light at the end of the tunnel if you're surrounded by the right people and showing that remembering those good moments are worth their weight in gold.

When Lottie met Leo she fell madly in love despite only knowing him for 3 months and Leo felt the same way. Lottie’s sisters would tease Lottie about how quickly Lottie and Leo had fallen in love and nicknamed them ‘Lots and Leo’. When Leo suddenly died Lottie starts to question how well she truly knew Leo especially when the secret behind his death is revealed. Was Leo as perfect as Lottie thought and was he truly ‘The One’?

I really enjoyed the storyline and this was a very immersive read. It was hard to put the book down even though I read this book as part of a readalong. The story moves between the past and the present. In the present Lottie is trying to deal with the fact that she will never see Leo again and in the past we learn more about how Lottie and Leo met and their relationship. After Leo dies Lottie becomes consumed by grief withdrawing from the world and the people around her. Lottie starts to live half in the real world and half in a dream world with Leo, having conversations with him and dreaming of what could have been had he not died i.e. buying a home together, marriage, children. For Lottie the world comes to a standstill but for everyone around her the world carries on. I did feel sad for Lottie especially because her dreams are shattered with one phone call but worse is to come when she is the last one at Leo’s funeral to find out what happened to him and that Leo wasn’t as perfect as he seemed. As secrets are revealed about Leo it did make me see him in a different light. But it also made me question whether Leo would have revealed these secrets to Lottie had he not died.

A book about love, loss and taking the steps to move on even if that seems impossible.

THE ONE by CLAIRE FROST.

As Lottie begins to believe that her boyfriend Leo is a keeper and their relationship could be something special, she is floored by the unexpected news of his sudden death.
Lottie now has to come to terms with the fact that all their shared dreams for the future will now never happen.
Normally close to her two sisters, who both seem to have their lives sorted, Lottie now feels alone and unable to live up to their achievments.
As life has thrust Lottie onto an unexpected path, can she navigate her way through the darkness and back to a happier place?

The story is told in two timelines. The past, where we learn about Lottie and Leo’s heartwarming but all too brief love affair, and the present day, where Lottie is learning to live a new life without Leo by her side.

Claire Frost writes with effortless depth and feeling. Each page is full of emotion, some of which is quite raw.
As much as there is sadness in this book, there are also lighter moments, that will make you smile and balance the mood of the book.

This is an incredibly tender story of love, heartbreak, complex family dynamics and learning to live again.

I have to say these romance books are fast becoming my guilty pleasure. I've been trying to expand my reading genres beyond mystery/thrillers and am glad I've done so.

I really enjoyed this novel. I won't write out the plot again, the synopsis for the book explains it well enough and is true to the story of the book.

However there are a number of issues explored in this book especially the bond between the sisters which I thought was great and so true to life.

Books like this live or die with the main character and Lottie is definitely the kind of person you will fall in love with. Although not faultless, she is such a real person and a very realistic portrayal of someone who has experienced grief and dealing with the fallout.

I would recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys this genre and thanks to Netgalley and Simon & Schuster UK for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A heart-breaking tale of loss, grief and putting the pieces of a life not quite lived together again.

This book bits hard in your emotions, you can feel the raw pain felt by Lottie and how she gets lost in the loss of Leo but the ultimate loss of what could have been.
She finally finds the man of her dreams, after years of seeing her sisters lives come together and already being let down by a man she loved, but that happiness is short lived.

I won't say more about the plot but this is a story of rediscovering life, living it for you and not others. You see how to appreciate what you have and not to compare yourself to others.

I liked Lottie, I empathised with her. I know loss and grief, I've experienced losing the one you love. My heart broke for her as I understood. I empathised but I was equally willing her to move forward, see what she did have and what she was capable of. She makes mistakes and sometimes her attitude stinks. I loved the bond between her and her sisters, a really lovely touch. Closer than friends and that means being able to be absolutely honest and know, deep down, they will always be there.

I read through this is no time; I didn't anticipate massive twists and turns, but I got a powerful and emotive story full of heart and soul.

Thank you Team BATC and Claire Frost for the opportunity to read and take part on the blog tour.

I really enjoyed this story, one that is a love story, but fundamentally a story of love, grief, family, support and healing.

Having had counselling myself when I lost my dad I thought this subject was nicely added into the story line and was so nice to see that it helped the character.

The One was heartbreaking, emotional, deep & hard hitting. Centered around grief & loss, this was the story of Lottie and how she dealt with everything.

Lottie's character growth is profound here. She was very realistic & genuinely portrayed of how one should during loss.
I loved how tight she was with her sisters who were always there for her, weather she liked it or not, whether she wanted their help or not.

The subtle, sweet, second chance romance was an icing on cake in this journey of self discovery & I wouldn't have it any other way.

I have read both of Claire’s previous novels and was a fan, so jumped at the chance to read her latest and I have to say this is my favourite one yet.

Lottie, the leading character, has found The One, Leo. Since meeting Leo she has had the perfect three months and is already in love. Then Leo unexpectedly dies, and Lottie’s life falls apart. She doesn’t know how to go on or who she is, but did she know as much about Leo as she thought she did.

Lottie’s story is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. The journey she goes on through this book to deal with her grief from losing Leo, the man she thought was the one, is beautifully constructed. You feel what Lottie is feeling and go on this journey with her. And through her rollercoaster of grief Lottie is discovering who she is by dealing with the feelings that the loss of Leo has brought up, not only directly from losing him but also the impact it has on the relationship with her sisters.

There are great characters and relationships in this book. Most notably that of Lottie and her sisters Annie and Em. All three of the sisters have different personality types but the bond between this is undoubtable, yet Lottie finds these relationships difficult whilst trying to come to terms with Leo’s death, but despite being pushed away Annie and Em are there for her regardless. I found these connections beautiful.

Then there’s Ross, Leo’s cousin. It is Ross that breaks the news to Lottie. The pair don’t have a good history but it is through Ross that Lottie learns more about Leo, and starts to question their relationship after discovering the extent of things he had been holding back from her.

This book is so wonderful. It pulls on the heartstrings but is full of hope. I can’t recommend it enough.

Grab your tissues and tuck into this emotional, heartbreaking and heartwarming book!

This review was originally posted on Star Crossed Reviews I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Thank you to Books and the City for my copy of this book. I have read Claire's two previous books and I really enjoyed them. This book was a lot sadder than her previous to but it was very poignant.

Lottie was such an easy character to like. She is very realistic and she's the sort of character you like warts and all. Seeing Lottie cope with her grief was very difficult to read. She really does struggle and it was lovely to see the characters talking about mental health and how important it is. This is a topic we all shy away from especially when dealing with grief. I think its very important to make this more normalised. Everyone has tough days and sometimes those turn into tough weeks, months, years but if we talk about our struggles then things do tend to feel better.

I really loved Leo's parents I thought they were so sweet and so brave. I was glad Lottie got to know them even if it wasn't in the circumstances she expected.

Claire explores some really tough topics but she deals with them all very tactfully and realistically. Grief is different for everyone and Claire shows us that too. I loved the sisters' bond. They were so close and their relationship was so real. All families have arguments but in the end, usually, you will make up.

This is a story about love, grief and really just living. Life isn't easy but we have to take the good when we can. I think that is a great moral to take from this story.

Lottie thinks that she has found ‘The One’ with her new boyfriend Leo. After being together for just twelve weeks, she is in love and so is he. However, as we know from the synopsis, Leo dies suddenly and Lottie is left to pick up the pieces of her shattered heart.

Despite the heavy themes of loss and grief that surround this book, it is a very heartwarming and uplifting story. Lottie is surrounded by her sisters who love her and would do anything for her, and I really enjoyed the relationship that they had with each other. Her life also ends up intertwined with Ross’, Leo’s cousin, and whilst it’s very fragile to begin with, they end up building a beautiful friendship.

I liked that the author showed grief in all its realness and rawness. I felt Lottie’s pain and anger and sadness and everything in between, and it felt so real. I also liked how the author explored the rose tinted glasses effect that falling in love can have. At the time, you can think everything is perfect, but in hindsight, was it actually? Leo hid secrets from Lottie and one of those secrets was a big part of who he was and who he had become, would he ever have shared those secrets?

I loved Ross. I really liked the scene in the car with him and Lottie where he broke down and made no apologies for it. I liked that the author showed that this is what grief looks like and you shouldn’t have to apologise for feeling that huge sense of loss and not having your emotions so tightly controlled 100% of the time.

A very emotional read but a very enjoyable one. I’ve given it 4 stars because I didn’t enjoy it quite as much as Married At First Swipe (also by Claire!). I would definitely recommend this book though! Just be prepared to cry!!

"None of us ever know that about the partner we choose, do we? We have to put our trust in that person and hope what we have is strong enough to weather the storms that will inevitably blow in." - The One by Claire Frost

This heartwarming novel shines as it blends the concept of hope and grief in the face of a devastating loss in a very uplifting and heartbreaking way. This will appeal to fans of Lia Louis and Sophie Cousens.

In The One, Lottie Brown is basking in her new relationship with charming, handsome and kind Leo. Just as she is about to introduce Leo to her sisters, the unthinkable happens - Leo suddenly dies.

Lottie finds herself grieving and struggling to keep herself from falling apart, as she deals with the fact that Leo, whom she truly believes is The One, has left her all alone. In the aftermath, Lottie tries to find solace by reflecting on her life and at the same time, trying to learn more about her beloved Leo. This is when she starts to understand that her perfect Leo might not be all that perfect after all.

While the premise of the story is rather poignant, it is actually quite breezy to read. The author focuses on Lottie's emotions, anger and confusion over everything that has happened with flair, and I loved how Lottie's sisters, Emily and Annie are always very supportive and compassionate towards her. It is uplifting to see the way Lottie has always been supported by her loved ones, and how her kind heart helps her to overcome her struggles and improve her relationships with others. Ultimately, it is a beautiful story of hope, healing, family and friendship that will leave you feeling warm and comforted.

After being convinced Lottie Brown has finally found the love of her life, she heard devastating news that her boyfriend Leo Sinclair has died. They have only been together three months, but both had declared their love for each other, and Lottie was sure she had found The One.
The novel is set in Oxford and begins with Lottie socializing with her sisters Annie and Emilia (Em). It then goes back in time to show her relationship with Leo (Before) and forward to the present day, as she comes to terms with his loss. It is easy to follow, and you get into the story straight away with there being such a huge shock in the first chapter.
After Leo’s death, Lottie meets his parents, aunt and uncle and re-meets Leo’s cousin Ross. It seems there were a few big, important parts of Leo’s life that he hadn’t told her. What will she think, once she finds out the truth?
The story is beautifully told and really well written. The characters all come across very well, the pacing is expertly done and it draws you in straight away. The three sisters are very authentic, you can easily see their conversations and how the family dynamic works between them.
Even though the novel deals with death and a broken heart, it is never a depressing or negative read. It is cleverly told so you see what Lottie is going through, but can also see how she changes as a person, learns from her experiences and – with the help of her sisters and friends – continues to live her life, even when at times, she felt like it was over.

This book has a dual time line from before and after Leo’s death, which I think was needed as it helped to provide lighter moments amongst the sadness. We got to see just how special Leo and Lottie’s relationship was and it helped to understand the whirlwind and then how much of an impact Leo’s death had on Lottie.

It reminded me massively of @josiesilverauthor The Two Lives of Lydia Bird and another book that I cannot remember the name of but that follows a quite similar storyline, although the couple had been together a lot longer and just bought a house together before he died. If anyone has any clues what it may be please let me know as it’s seriously bugging me!

These books are so emotional but I think they all make you smile despite the sadness as they show that things will get better and you have to learn to love yourself first.

I picked up quite quickly that there was something that Leo wasn’t sharing with Lottie but didn’t expect it to be what it was and thought that this was a big turning point in everything for Lottie and her future.

I really liked this book and found myself getting utterly lost in the pages, so many times I wanted to reach in and give Lottie a big hug. I know a few people are torn with the ending but I actually really liked the way that the story panned out and closed the book (sadly) with a smile on my face. Thank you Claire for an emotional, but refreshing read!

AD- PR PRODUCT

After a short whirlwind romance, Leo passes away and leaves Lottie with just a few short weeks of memories to get by.

The first part of the book is told through before and after POVs, which worked really well as a means of allowing us to understand the fullness of Leo and Lotties relationship. They seemed like they had a perfect fairytale romance which left us wondering if there was something more. It also allowed us an insight into Lotties struggles after Leo was gone.

I also really loved Lotties character, and enjoyed reading about her relationship with her sisters. It was nice to see how they had their own lives but were all still one whole when they were together.

The second half of the book fell a bit flat for me as it felt like it was just repeating how perfect their relationship was and a lot of Lottie just existing. However, there were a few bits that added some more depth to the story too.

There's a lot of mixed feelings about Ross, but I didn't dislike him from the start. To me he seemed like a conflicted character.
I liked the ending, but would have also liked the story to have gone a different way too. It was quite predictable but rounded the story off nicely.

Thank you to the author, publishers and Tandem for having me on this readlong with some lovely bookstagrammers

The Blurb :
Lottie Brown has finally found The One. Leo is everything she’s ever wanted – he’s handsome, kind, funny and totally gets her. Three months into their relationship, Lottie is in love and happier than ever before.
But then Leo tragically dies, and Lottie is left floundering.
As she struggles to stop her life falling apart, Lottie learns more about the man she thought she knew, and starts to question whether Leo really was as perfect as he seemed…

My Thoughts :
We meet Lottie Brown, just when she thinks she has finally found the man of her dreams in Leo, he dies. Just like that!.
As the story unfolds we learn how the couple met right upto Leo’s death. As Lottie trys to process her grief she uncovers things about Leo that he hadnt told her about, which sets her on a rollercoaster if emotions.
I really liked Lottie as a character and felt sorry for her at times, I just wanted to reach into the book and hug her.
The reader goes on a journey with her as we learn more about her in the story and the people around her.
Also great supporting cast in her sisters Annie and Em.
A very enjoyable read by Claire Frost, although tinged with sadness there is a lot of emotion and loss as well as dealing with grief.
Look forward to more to come from Claire Frost.

Okay so chapter one was a little predictable but this was still a beautiful love story (in part one) and also a beautiful tale of three sisters and how great family can be at times. And this was my second book in a row which had a dual timeline (in part one).

This is a fade to black book with no spice, but I still absolutely adored Leo and Lots' relationship, and the way the title links to the book is SO cute 😩

However, this book was extremely grief heavy and not the cute romance I was expecting (my fault for not reading the synopsis) and unfortunately, as it progressed it became more and more repetitive. And then I massively got the ick, but I don't want to give away a huge spoiler in this review; there are some boundaries you should never ever cross though and it ruined the book for me.

Other than that, it was a really quick easy read that for the most part I enjoyed! There was nothing wrong with the way it was written or anything like that, and it was a really good story, it just didn't sit right with me.

And I love that this was written by the Author of Married At First Swipe as that's a book I've wanted to own and read for ages! And I definitely will be picking it up now!

This is a beautiful book about love, grief, friendship and family. I really enjoyed the flashbacks at the beginning of the book, that showed the relationship blossoming between Leo and Lottie. I felt the story really needed these happier chapters to break up sadness of the book.

The way the book was written felt quite raw and full of emotion. I felt I really understood Lottie's grief and all the emotions she was struggling to deal with I felt with her. This book pulled on my heartstrings so much. The characters are so lovable everyone needs sisters like Em and Annie, they are there for Lottie to help her through the tough times, encouraging her to move on and find love somewhere else and they cheer her on to be the best person she can possibly be.

I enjoyed seeing the friendship between Ross and Lottie blossom, I found it quite comforting that they found a friendship in such a sad part of their lives. The fact that they both knew Leo in very different ways was nice so they could share their own stories to each other. This book was easy to read I found myself getting lost within the pages and loosing track of time. I would highly recommend this book.

This is not your typical romance novel as it starts in the present day where Lottie who has found 'The One' in Leo is told the devastating news that after 3 months together he has passed away.

The story takes you from when Lottie and Leo first meet to times after his death and understanding who the true Leo was. It shows the different stages of emotion which Lottie goes through, a mix of happiness, love, shock, grief, anger, confusion, loneliness, self doubt and more. It also explores Lotties relationship with her 2 sisters who appear to have everything in life.

I found Lottie a very likeable and realistic character whose emotions and thoughts very well developed, which made me want to find out more. I became totally invested in the story and found this not to be the typical 'sweet romance' development of this genre.

The first time I have read a book by Claire Frost but will certainly look for future books due to her unique story telling.

This was an ARC from Net Galley in return my honest review of the book.

Lottie has found 'The One,' after only just 11 weeks, but when Leo unexpectedly passes she must learn to cope, turning to her friends and family for support.

I found this a really easy read and flew through the pages, I genuinely didn't want to put it down.
I really liked the character of Lottie as well as her sisters, showing family, love and support.

In the beginning, Frost splits the novel into past and present, which really gave a back story to the characters of Lottie and Leo, which I found myself getting lost in.

I felt the funeral scene was well written and found myself emotional and reminiscing over the last funeral I had been to.

However, I also saw the storyline coming. The narrative becomes predictable because this is what you are expecting, although I do feel it could have had a stronger narrative and moral of independence and self-love. But this isn't to say that I still didn't enjoy the novel.

Overall it was a great novel, one I would recommend and an author I would pick up again.

A beautifully written, hauntingly sad, heartbreaking story of love, loss, family, friendships, secrets and second chances. I absolutely adored this book, and although the story is centred around Lottie after the sudden death of her, fairly new boyfriend, Leo, it still manages to be funny and uplifting. I felt very invested in Lottie, Leo, Em, Annie, Ross, Rachel and Guy’s story. The book wove around all of their lives, telling their stories in a very readable way and gave me the ending that I hoped for. Grief and working your way through it, is a very difficult subject to write about with just the right amount of sympathy, empathy and realism but I felt that the author managed it really well, without becoming maudlin. I’m sure this would be a difficult book to read if you’ve recently suffered from a bereavement, but don’t cast it aside - give it a chance as you might just find it comforting. Recommended….

The One by Claire Frost

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster UK and I am leaving this review voluntarily

This book is told in a dual timeline - before and after the death of Leo. We get to see how special their relationship was and how Leo's death impacted Lottie. A sad but uplifting tale that shows the strength of family and friendship. I think this is the first book I have had to put down and take a break from the rollercoaster of emotions I experienced reading this.
