Yeah, those are the three reasons why I signed myself up as a foreign exchange student.Little Emily Klein, the popular girls’ pet, going along with whatever, never speaking her mind.Puppe, they called me. “Little doll.” But I was through with being a doll, through with being a background character in my own life.Everything was going to change— even if I had to cross an ocean for it.Bring on a year of bright lights, nightlife and parties in the USA.Except my plan didn’t work.I was shipped off to the smallest of small-town America, a place where nothing ever happens, host families treat you like a maid, and nobody talks to shy German girls. That is, until I met them.

Paul Shields. All-American football player (the kind with the pointy brown ball, not what people here call “soccer”).He’s actually kind of sweet . . . or is he?

Jon Denson. Paul’s best friend, the brooding, leather-jacket type. We get along like a house on fire. Literally.

They’re my two tickets to an adventure that’s way beyond what I can handle. The trouble with coming out of the shadows is that I start getting noticed. And now I need to make a decision that’ll cost me either my mind . . . or my heart. No matter what, I’m sticking to my list.

I’m not Puppe any longer. So who exactly am I?

“The Lovely One” is amazing. I’ve first read the story on Episode and it was really enjoyable. The book version is a little different, but the plot is still captivating. The characters are perfectly described and the challenges they went through are genuinely felt. The Lovely One taught me so many life lessons and I truly believe that I found myself in this book.

I would highly recommend to give “The Lovely One” a try. I don't think there's anyone who wouldn't benefit from reading this book.

I would also like to thank the author for sharing this masterpiece. Your writing style is brilliant. I’ll always be here to show my love and support you. Can’t wait to read “The Lost One”.

*~*~*~*~*

This is such a special book to me because I first came across it on an interactive story app called Episode a few years ago. I would spend my time reading this story and desperate for certain things to happen and I loved that I got to make choices for the character Emily, but reading it as a novel has been a whole different experience for me!

Emily is a complete fish out of water, she’s gone to a place she’s always dreamed off and yet nothings gone perfect for her. Her host mother is terrible, making friends has been near impossible, and on top of that? She’s miserable.

When Emily meets Paul and Jon, things change and I love how a quiet girl blooms into a person with confidence and a friendship group. The found family trope within this story is so cute and always warms my heart. I love that Emily is welcomed into a group of numerous people and that they all come up with nicknames for her and the majority of them treat her well. Some of the friendships that form are beautiful (especially the one with Danielle, I absolutely adore it).

I’m a sucker for a good love triangle despite the fact that I always get angry if the person doesn’t end up with who I want them to. I, myself, am team Jon, I feel as though they have more chemistry and Paul doesn’t deserve Emily after some of the shit he’s pulled! Despite the anger I feel for Paul, I do think he’s also good for Emily, but as of right now, I feel like Jon is better suited for her. (I also hate the nickname “babycakes” where as “Little German” is just so cute)!

Some see this story as a new adult story but I see it as a young adult and while the characters are of legal age, the intimate scenes within the book make me a little uncomfortable. If the characters were no longer in high school, I think I would feel differently, but because they are, I just feel like the little bit of spiciness isn’t appropriate.

All in all, I’m excited to read the second book because things are going to get even more dramatic, and I can’t wait for Emily to really sink her teeth into America!

Great book!

The Lovely One is such a great book and I cannot wait for the next to come out so I can see what happens with Emily, Paul and Jon. Ready to see who she ends up with or if she ends up with anyone.

I really love the way this book made me feel.
I don't know why, but every time I was reading it I was feeling warm... comfort..the feeling you have when you drink your hot chocolate with a fleece blanket in your body while you are listening the wind from outside.

The truth is that usually I don't read this kind of books, but I love Naemi's writing in Episode, so I decided to give it a try and I'm glad that I did that.
It's a Very beautiful story full of romance, drama and in general, a lot of emotions. I felt very close with the characters and I enjoyed to see America through Emily's eyes (I'm European too, so it was very interesting to me to have glances in these cultures).
I like both Paul and Jon and I really don't know with who I want to Emily end up😅
The end was an emotional bomb and I can't wait to read the rest in the next book! ❄️

The only reason I gave this book one star is because my boyfriend broke up with me halfway through reading it and couldn't finish it because the book reminds me too much of him. Loved the Episode version though!

It was a nice story but a little out of my comfort zone. I’m not a huge fan of romances and this book hasn’t changed my mind. It was a good plot and story but some things were lacking.

This book holds such a special place in my heart. I followed this story on episode as it was being released regularly and am so happy to see how far it’s come. It has been a long time since I played it though and reading this book makes my heart so warm and fuzzy. As characters get introduced I get so excited remembering the adventures we had. I feel like all of the characters are my friends, the author does such an incredible job of making the characters personable. I played the episode story when I was in high school and had the biggest crush on Paul, but now that I am older and rereading this story I LOVE Jon. The way he is cold and brash with everyone but melts when it comes to Emily is precious. I’m so excited for the next book which I am going to start reading immediately! I highly recommend this book when I read this story the first time it felt like a fun escape, an adventure you were going on with Emily (the protagonist). It was fun to feel like you were going on an exchange student adventure with her and having all of these new experiences.

so initially I read the whole story on episode finished it 5 stars and now finally got a hold of the book and read it I'm only giving it three stars because it wasn't the whole story it ended at the party... There's so much more that comes after it now I'm not sure if she's writing a second book but I would have loved it if she just kept it all in one that I have to put it out there I can't stand Paul like an episode I was Jon all the way and we got to choose what happened so it was always Jon but rereading it in the book just made me hate Paul even more I don't know I don't really know if this considered spoilers but I'm just going to say that it does anyways but yeah okay thats it that I was thrown off by the name changes cuz some of them had different names and episode than they do in the book but other than that it was good gosh this review is all over the place lol

I wanted to give this more stars, especially since I loved both Episode versions of this story. But the book ends rather abruptly and is missing at least 2/3 of the Episode plot, which feels rather unsatisfactory. Even when trying to review the book on its own, the ending doesn’t do the really nice writing style and the character development enough justice. You never get to know about further struggles or a possible solution to make the relationship work despite both of them living on different continents and this feels kind of like an easy way out. I don’t regret buying the book, tho. It’s still an enjoyable read, just don’t expect detailed closure! Or maybe the author wants to continue this in a second book, who knows?
[Edited:] Changed this to 4/5 stars because it is supposed to be a series indeed. Whoops!

I randomly discovered this fantastic story on Episode, and quickly fell in love with the characters, the story, the writing, I had to buy the book, which exceeded all my expectations. This book changed my life in many ways, I see myself in the characters and I believe that many young people and young adults can see themselves in them too. The author's writing is fantastic and makes us always want more and more and more, one of the best series I've ever read, it has a very special place in my heart.

I decided to read this book for the 2nd time since I’m the second book is supposed to come out, it’s not my favorite book but it’s not awful, I enjoy all the scenes with Jon and I like the beginning, I think the reason I don’t like the middle is because all of the scenes with Paul because I don’t like Paul 😂, but I do like the last couple pages except for the actual last page because of her choice but overall good first book and I absolutely love the episode story of this book
