A shocking murder. Globe-spanning greed. Can one man untangle the brutal truth before he meets a gruesome end?**
Calabria, Italy, 2019. Special Prosecutor Nicoló Moretti is reeling from the news he has a five-year-old son. And when he realizes his former lover is only coming clean because her high-profile anti-corruption campaign has provoked death threats, emotions flare and he never learns where she’s hidden him. Nico is overwhelmed with guilt when she’s slain in a horrific blast, vowing to hunt down the killers… and find his little boy.
Traveling to Malta to track down who ordered the hit, Nico battles ruthless power-mongers desperate to keep their secrets buried. And as he closes in on unscrupulous CEOs, government officials, and foreign despots laundering their dirty money, the callous assassination of a whistleblower has the determined investigator fearing he’s next on the list.
“Everybody knows“is a fantastic face-paced thriller that kept me on edge from page one to the surprising revelations on the last chapters.
It is centered in Malta and becomes sort of a tour of a country that I knew nothing about. It wet my taste to visit Malta.
Besides the constant fast paced action, I think the strength in this book is exceptionally believable characters. From Italy’s special prosecutor Nico Moretti To Ariana and Francesco these three exceptionally strong characters enhance the story.
As a book it was fantastic but I see it as a movie with the action and and interplay of both villains and good characters.
I highly recommend
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
I've been following author Karen Dodd for some time now and this is one of her best crime thriller yet! Immerse yourself deep into Malta and Italy. Stroll around quaint villages, smell the sea, feel the sun on your face, but please, please, look over your shoulder. Ruthless killers may be on your trail, bombs may be set under your restaurant table, the mafia may be listening to your calls...
Karen Dodd has set a thrilling plot when Special Prosecutor Nicoló Moretti's son goes missing and nothing will stop him from finding this boy he has never met. This tender connection contrasts with the violent crimes perpetrated by power hungry forces that Nicoló must now face.
The author has done a splendid job going behind the scenes of rampant corruption in all levels of society, from local police forces to world leaders. She has cast a fine web of international crime which Nicoló must bring out in the open if he is to find his son.
I have received an ARC copy of this book and highly recommend this exciting and intricate read.
After reading Deadly Switch by Karen Dodd, I looked forward to her new novel. She didn't disappoint. Her ability to juggle multiple characters but not lose or confuse the reader is remarkable. Every character, whether they're lowlife or highly stationed, is well-crafted and distinct. Her vividly described settings are as well, which means that anyone who loves travel will appreciate the journey Nicholas Moretti, the protagonist, takes in his quest to solve the mystery of who killed the woman he still loves.
The author deftly delves into this world of corruption, where those who try to expose the criminals and bring them to justice put their lives at risk. And behind this story is a little boy, Nichols Moretti's son, the one he didn't know existed. Where he is and who has him is another layer that kept me engaged in this fast-paced thriller.
Malta. A tourist’s dream. A beautiful archipelago in the Mediterranean. Azure waters. Blue lagoons. History steeped but cosmopolitan with a national theater and a Philharmonic Orchestra. Quaint cafes and cliffside dining. Now add intrigue, corrupt government officials and money laundering. Damp underground tunnels and trap doors, fast cars and shadowy figures. Just when you think you know Nico and Ariana, everything changes. In fact, it is the complicated transformation and introduction of characters and thorny plot twists that keeps the reader on her toes! Everybody doesn’t know!! Until you do. And that is what makes this suspense novel a great read until the end! Highly recommend!
Starts with a bang! This intriguing tale is set on the island of Malta. Great character descriptions hold this mystery together as the reader is hijacked on a thrilling rollercoaster ride through unexpected twists and turns of a well-constructed and tantalizing plot. I was captivated right to the last page.
Everybody Knows is a great summer read. It has everything you need and want in a thriller: a complicated and believable plot, interesting characters, exotic locations, and a pace that will keep you turning the pages and guessing right up to the end. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I'm looking forward to reading more about Moretti and his fight against international organized crime.
An amazing, riveting story with intriguing plots. Couldn’t wait to continue reading it every chance I had. I’m so looking forward to reading more stories by Karen. She is an amazing writer.
I enjoyed the trip to Malta, which is described as having the best climate in the world. It seems like a dangerous place to live, though, especially if you're working to oppose illegal activities.
Karen Dodd humanized the book by using ordinary people to perform brave and heroic deeds as well as the central characters and law enforcement. Their suffering showed how acts of criminals affected innocent and uninvolved citizens.
Nico Moretti is a good character, imperfections and all. I liked him. Everybody Knows is full of action from the start and Moretti gets banged up and then some. The attack on Giorgio's bar was suspenseful. I loved Gabriella and Caesar. Their doggy hearts brought more dimension to Moretti, Giorgio, and the hotel staff.
I couldn't relate to Ariana's motivation for keeping Max a secret to his father. Similarly, Elle's role was a conundrum, but in each case, the author was true to the plot's intricacies, tying all the pieces together at the end.
I was honored to read a free ARC courtesy of Karen Dodd via Hidden Gems. Though not obligated to give a positive review, I enjoyed the read. I'm not usually a fan of crime thrillers, but this one was quite good.
Nico is a Italian acting justice. The story comes when he meets to his long life lover who is suddenly killed. Nico leaves Italy to go to Malta where his lover was fighting for justice in organized crime and influenced government. Nico has to deal with many characters and doesn't know who to trust. The plot revolves finding a previous unknown son, and the documents that to prove against the criminal by his lost lover. The actions are very exciting, and the the people are drawn into Nico with entertaining but suspenseful relationships. The ending is very satisfying, and seems to led to more Nico stories.
Karen Dodd has created a complex and fascinating thriller. A real page turner with great characters and startling plot twists. Set in the picturesque Mediterranean, the stunning natural beauty and mouth-watering descriptions of food provide a thin veil over the corruption and greed of organized crime. I can't wait for the next Nicolo Moretti installment.
This book not only had an engrossing plot that kept me riveted, but it also had really compelling character development. I really cared what happened to Nico Moretti . I very much look forward to hearing more about the life and adventures of Nico Moretti ! Thank you Karen. Gail Muise
This thrilling novel has everything: a killer plot, suspenseful twists, a lot of heart, and surprises right to the end. Don't just add this to your To-Read pile--put it at the very top!
