What family secrets are behind the murder of an entire family? Los Angeles Detective Harriet ‘Harri’ Harper is focused on uncovering the truth in the latest installment of the top-selling heart-pounding series.
The best in the series so far. Largely, in my opinion, due to the absence of the private investigation conducted by Harriet and her ex FBI boyfriend in to her dead sister. That theme really got boring for me. This time it's a straightforward police procedural that left me feeling compelled to keep reading. It's not often that a book draws me in from the first few pages but this one did straight out of the box. The tempo of the plot was always pacey with endless twists, right to the last pages. Half way into the book I was absolutely sure I'd identified the bad guy only to be wrong. I felt cheated but, hey, it was cleverly done.
This wasn't quite as good as the others in the series. Some of the twist was a bit obvious from the demeanor of the perpetrators when they were interviewed. We are nearing the end of the series and there has been hardly any mention of her sister's killer. I am hoping that it is tied up in this last book but I fear that it either gets left by the wayside or it is part of a spinoff for another series. Fingers crossed that is not the case. I am still very much enjoying Harri's character and her dynamic within the precinct.
Good to the last word! Dominika Best did it again.
Det. Harri Harper and Det. Tom Bards are called to a depressing murder scene involving a mother and two children, with the father missing. A twist, though--one child survived. The grandmother is convinced the father did it, but all interviews depict him as a devoted father, non-violent and protective. With him missing, it is difficult to say whether or not he went berserk over the loss of his fortune caused by a business failure and an investment that proved to be fraudulent.
Just as the reader thinks they have solved the case, a big twist is thrown in. A "must read." Eagerly awaiting book 7.
It's shocking how much evil can exist in one person. Harri and Tom are assigned the case of a supposed "family annihilator" when a mother, son, and daughter are found shot in their own home, and the father is missing with no indication of how to find him. All they know about him is that he is a rich man who seems to be in financial difficulties. Harri and Tom are working themselves to the point of exhaustion to find a murderer, and this case just gets more convoluted with every new clue.
Ms Best has written some very good mysteries! This one is just as good as the rest. There are so many convoluted parts to this one! Detective Harri Harper really gets wrapped up in her cases. This one had several possible bad guys, so I had no idea how it would end, until the last page!
This book left me speechless!! It was filled with so much mystery, deception, murders and jaw dropping suspense. The ending blew me away, I didn’t see it coming at all! This series has been amazing! Now I have to complain about the author using God’s name in vain. Please stop!! It doesn’t improve your books!! God gives gifts but He can also take them away.
This is one of the best stories I have ever read. I could not put the book down. The story is complicated and fascinating. Nothing makes a lot of sense yet somehow it’s all pulling together. Dominik’s is a terrific author. Can’t wait to find more of her stories.
Yea!! The author went back to giving the reader a great murder mystery with lots of twists and turns. So glad there wasn't any gore and overblown descriptions of ungodly situations. Makes for a much better read. 👏😅
In possible to put down. The two main characters are portrayed perfect. The stories are interesting and they hook you right from the start. I would recommend these books to anyone who likes this type of stuff !
Consistent quality from Dominica Best. The Harriet Harper books are well written with likeable characters and good plots. Can be read as stand alone but are enhanced when read as a series as the back story follows on.
I really enjoyed this one! I was afraid the books were starting to get a little to dry but this one was a page turner. I like the dynamics of the detectives. The twist I definitely did not see coming! This one was more tame than some of the other books, which was appreciated.
A good murder mystery that is well written and a fast read. The characters are well developed and add to the story line. This is a very enjoyable series, still fresh with each book.
Another great read, Dominica is a very good writer. Amazing the people involved, glad Ava has her grandmother who sounds like a very caring woman. Thank you
