This box set includes all five previously published books in the M/M romance series His Best Friend's Brother. The steamy, low-angst series features sweetheart men, temptation that sizzles, opposites-attract sparks, and satisfying HEAs.
Falling for the Geek: My high school crush, my older brother’s best friend. Now Cass is back to crash my summer alone. Forbidden Friend: At work, at home—my best friend’s twin brother is everywhere I look, tempting me. The Geek Next Door: He’s always been there, whether I realized it or not... Shared Secrets: My brother’s two best friends, and an HEA worth fighting for. Falling for Trouble: Steamy trouble with my best friend's long-lost brother.
I haven’t been into lower angst books like these in weeks so 5 of them wasn’t going to be my favourite thing ever, but I actually quite enjoyed reading these books. They were sweet and fun and the sex was hot, what more can I ask for really?
Well I do wish that more things happened in these books as they all ended up being a little boring to me, they were still really sweet.
One of my main issue with these books was that most of the main characters were in their 30s and they sounded like they were 20. I just had a lot of problems imagining a lot of them as 30 years olds.
Falling for the Geek
3.5 stars
This one was really sweet but also easily forgetable. I don’t think it will stick with me for a long time, but I enjoyed it while reading it.
Brief summary Shawn had a massive crush on Cass 10 years ago when they were in high school and Cass thought he was straight. Shawn retreats in the woods for the summer to work on his book about the stars and Cass goes where Shawn his for the summer to remodel the house. Shawn catches Cass while he’s jerking off one day and then they slowly settle into a relationship.
First, I loved how Cass was really interested in Shawn and his liking of astronomy. I loved all the little details about astronomy and how important it was to the book.
Second, I like how Cass was easy going but that he had doubts about it. I like when my characters aren’t portrayed as perfect. I really enjoyed how easy going Cass was. It never bothered him that he was into a guy for the first time. He just went with it and it was lovely to see. I liked how it never bothered him that Shawn is a guy, he was just into him and that was fine with him.
Third, these guys were so sweet to each other and always supported each other.
Fourth, there was a lot of sexual exploration in this one. I loved seeing all of Cass’ first times with a guy. But I did think that it all came a little too easily to Cass. But the sex scenes were hot and fun to read so it didn’t really bother me.
Fifth, I did appreaciate that there was a little conflict in this book, it wasn’t much but it made their relationship feel much more realistic. I would have appreciate more conflict though.
Forbidden friend
2.5 stars
Brief summary River is a dreamer and believes in love too easily. River spent his life folllwing people around for love instead of doing what he wants. While Leo is a manwhore and never wanted to settle down. They get together and end up falling in love.
First, this one was all about older and classic movies, which is my favourite type of movies, so I definitely appreciate the vibe really much.
Second, River seemed to be way less interested than Leo, I felt like there was an imbalance in their interest. There was so much pining done by Leo and basically none by River.
Third, the set up and the characters background was the perfect reason to have some angst in the book, but there wasn’t much angst and in this and I would have enjoyed more. The conflict was resolved way too fast for me, I wanted more conflict.
Fourth, I enjoyed how it was shown that what River felt for Leo was very different to how he felt in relationships before. It was a good thing since his previous relationships weren’t healthy.
I did enjoy how they fell in love, it was really sweet. Too easy, but very sweet. Expecially considering the characters background.
The geek next door
2 stars
Brief summary Izzy used to cam online in costumes. He hasn’t done it in ages but he kept one regular. Kai and Izzy go to Kai’s brother wedding as a date. They start catching feelings for each other.
First, This is my least favourite of the five stories for sure. I was less interested in the topics discussed in the book so it pulled my attention less. It was lacking the kind of background conflict the others had that made them interesting to read. This book was just so easy going that it was hard for me to stay interested in it, I wanted more things to happen. There was one tiny conflict and it was solved in about 5 minutes and it barely was a conflict in the first place. But the sex scenes were hot so at least it had that going for it but it didn’t help save the book from being really boring to me.
Second, in the other books, the break up towards the end was handled tastefully or there wasn’t any, but the one in this was kind of really dramatic and the characters action didn’t fit what we knew of them so far.
Third, Kai just wasn’t my favourite character. I had a lot of trouble believing he was actually in love with Izzy and a lot of his actions seemed really strange to me and weren’t very nice to Izzy.
Shared secrets
4 stars
This ome is my favourite of the series for sure, which is shocking because MMM is not my favourite, but I really enjoyed this one.
Brief summary Russell has had a crush on his brother’s friends Casey and Blake for years (as in the three of them together) and he’s out of a place to live so he goes to stay with them until he can find a place of his own. They end up in a relationship.
Side note, Blake and Casey have been hooking up together for ages but Casey only wants hook ups and Blake wants a serious relationship so they never got together
First, at the start of the book, I was very confused and frankly just annoyed as to why Blake still described himself as being straight when he and Casey had been hooking for 10 YEARS, couldn’t we just make him bisexual?
Second, I loved how we got to see their 3 point of views. I loved how we got to see the three of them having fantasies about the three of them together. It really helped solidify that the three of them wanted each other.
Third, I really enjoyed the balance between these three. Casey and Blake had been hooking up for ages but it never felt like Rusell didn’t fit with them or if they three of them didn’t go perfectly together and I really loved that part.
Fourth, look, i’m not ashamed to say it. This one is my favourite in the series mostly because the sex scenes in this one were sizzling hot and I loved them very much. Plus, they included panties, how was I meant to resist?
Falling for trouble
3 stars
There wasn’t much wrong with this one, it just didn’t hold my interest very much, although I did really enjoy some parts.
Brief summary Peyton is out at a bar, he’s questioning his sexuality and he wants to experiment with a man. He meets Jet and they hook up. Their hook ups turn into them falling in love.
First, Peyton is a bear, which I definitely enjoyed. I just adore bears in books.
Second, there was a good amount of pining and push and pull in this one and I was happy about it, I really enjoyed reading those scenes.
Fourth, I really enjoyed the set up to the relationship and the relationship progression in this one. It was sweet but it wasn’t too easy.
Fifth, The sex scenes in this one were some of the best ones in the entire series. This book is light kink and I definitely was into that, very much.
Sixth, the drama at the 90% was definitely over done. Why the fuck was that needed? I’m sure there was much better ways to develop the plot than that drama.
I received an ARC of this book, and this is my honest review.
This is another great Box Set containing 5 books, written by R Cayden.
The stories are all linked in so far as each one features a guy, his brother and his brothers best friend. Book 2 will have a link back to Book 1 as a new guy is introduced through the growing circle of friends, brothers etc.
Book 1- Falling for the Geeks features Cass a musician and Shawn an Astronomer and he has a brother , Leo who is a friend of Cass since High School. Shawn is writing a book on Astronomy and is staying at the family cabin in the woods for 10 weeks to finish his book. Then he receives a call from his brother Leo saying that Cass will be coming to stay as he will be carrying out some renovations to the cabin while he waits for a Gig. Shawn is not too happy because he has had a crush on Cass since he was in his early teens and can’t imagine sharing an isolated cabin in the woods with him without him giving himself away. Both of these guys are opposites one a geek the other an upbeat character, or is he?
=================
Book 2- Forbidden Friend - Leo and River. Leo is Shawn’s brother from previous Book. He works as CEO of a PR company with a business partner Kai, a friend from college days. They are sharing a 3 bedroom Condo. Their company is hugely successful. Kai’s twin brother River is returning home after 10 years in Europe, hopping from job to job, lover to lover, he has just broken up with his Italian lover/business partner. He is homeless and penniless. Kai has offered his brother a room until he gets on his feet. However, Kai has warned Leo, an inveterate one night stand only guy, to keep “his filthy hands’ off his twin brother. Wonder how that will pan out!!!
================
Book 3- Geek Next Door- Kai and Izzy. Kai is River’s brother from previous story above. He has a successful PR company and is a bit of a controller, however he has a secret that nobody knows, to even his twin brother or best friend Leo. Izzy has a mundane job and likes to break the boredom in his life by dressing up in furry animal costumes and performing on Video channels, I use the term “performing” loosely, 🤭. Using an anonymous “handle” he has a couple of regular followers who he hooks up with on line most nights. Hmm, wonder who they are!!!
Book 4- Shared Secrets - Casey, Blake and Russell. This is a threesome. Russell is Payton’s brother. Casey and Blake have been friends with Peyton since childhood. Casey and Blake have been having a friends with “sometimes” benefits for a while but they don’t discuss what it is exactly. Casey has had a very traumatic childhood and lived with Russell and Payton’s family when his mother threw him out when she remarried. Russell is still trying to define himself, even though he is “out”. He wants to wear make up and dress as he wants to but is struggling to be brave. I really liked Russell’s character but threesomes are not my favourite scene.
==============
Book 5- Falling for Trouble - Peyton and Jett. Peyton is Russell’s brother, see above. Peyton is a partner in a Architect Practice with his friend from college days, Noah. Noah is a very quiet, introverted character and has very overbearing control freaks for parents. They kicked his older brother, Jett, out of Home when he was 16 and he hasn’t been back since. Jett is a world travelling DJ who is well known for his skill as a Club and event DJ. He has returned to his hometown Pittsburg, hoping to improve his relationship with his brother. Noah has not forgiven him for going off and leaving him at the mercy of his parents. Peyton is sitting alone in a bar having a drink, contemplating his lonely life when he is approached by a tall good looking man, “Hi I’m Jett”. Totally out of character, Peyton ends up outside in a dark alley outside the pub with this stranger, and they have frantic kissing and BJ’s and then just walk away from each other. As the stranger walked away he unknowingly dropped his wallet. Peyton picks it up and sees a card with a name on it which he recognises. He is shocked and mortified to read the name “Alistair Brown”. He remembers that name of Noah’s estranged brother. Weeks later he comes face to face at a company gathering and is introduced to Noah’s brother, aka Jett. Jett has huge issues surrounding his parents and how they treated him growing up. His brother Noah was misinformed about the reasons Jett left home among other things.
This story was probably the most angst ridden of the set IMHO, also, I didn’t connect with either Peyton or Jett in the same way I did with most of the other MC’s in the set.
However, I’m very happy I bought this set and I enjoyed it very much overall.
I recently listened to a book where one of the characters liked romance books because they pretty much always guaranteed a happy ending. This box of books has plenty of those and very little angst to boot. The stories were each released as single book over the course of a year. All five stories feature characters that appear in some of the other stories.
Though I don't really understand the sexual tastes of some of the characters, all the stories are low angst, enjoyable reads. I really enjoyed spending time with these characters, and loved the way that characters I was already familiar with kept popping up. Given how many of the filial characters end up married, (and how many previously straight identified men end up with husbands) I did wonder whether the novel might not better have been set in Philadelphia (the city of brotherly love) rather than in Pittsburgh.
The level of on-page sex varies a bit from book to book, but by the time you've finished the pentatych you'll have pretty much covered the gamut; from simple voyeurism, to self-pleasure to triads, and beyond. And while there is no actual incest implied or depicted, you might be advised to spread these out over a period of time. Reading them back to back did give them a bit of an incestuous feel. Given that the entire boxed set weighs in at over 750 pages, and each book features an ending without cliff-hangers, that shouldn't be a problem.
Ready for some taboo breaking naughtiness? Then check out the fellas in these tales.
***Note: While I received a free copy of this title, this is an honest and impartial review ***
A great boxset to add to your Kindle for your summer holiday reading. Easy to read, light and joyful this will have you smiling all the way through. Yes there are some bits that drove me crazy but over all it wasn't the worst set of books that I've read and yes I recommend you add them today xx
Book 1 - Falling for the Geek So I thought this book was cute, characters were great being all awkward around each other than getting comfortable and then the inevitable HEA.
The story was good and moved well making me smile all the way through the book.
My issue was the really poor editing. There were grammatical errors, typos, and continuity issues such as wrong names or changes in time of day. In fact there were so many I decided against keeping a list for the author, which I would normally do as an arc reader.
A great read for the beach, I recommend it for your kindle if you can look past the errors xx
Book 2 – His Forbidden Friend As with book one in this series this needs a good edit and proof read!!
The story this time is based around the brother from book one and he falls for his best friend's twin, awkward or what!!!!! Of course, gooey eyes eventually lead to popcorn eventually lead to FWB agreements and that leads to the HEA. The pace of the book is great with you being able to read it in one sitting.
As with book one this is a great book for reading in the sun on the beach so I recommend it if you can see past the errors xx Book 3 – The Geek Next Door My least favourite of the books; not because of the story or the fact that the main character Kai is not very nice but because the editing issues were just rampant in this book to the point that I had to put my kindle down and walk away!
The story is fine, the characters are ok for the story, there's a HEA to make everyone happy! Book 4 – Shared Secrets Probably the best so far of the series; it has the least errors which is a bonus!
We have mmm, gfy, and trying new things in a new city; everything is hot and heavy with locker room banter and mutual support all round. All three main characters showed personal growth within their own limits which was nice.
As with the other books it had great pace and flow and could easily see you through a trip to the beach in the summer or a cozy night in during the winter. xx Book 5 – Falling for Trouble R Cayden left the best to last on this series! Much better than the rest of the series in terms of editing and proof reading which made it a much easier reading experience.
I really enjoyed the story, the bi-awakening and acceptance by the rest of the family was to be expected as they were all part of the same social circle consisting of a mix of lgbtqia+ people!
Book 5 was definitely the hottest of the series, but as with the other books the story still flowed with great pace.
I don't really have anything bad to say about this one as it was just a nice book with cute characters and an easy sexy read! xx
His Best Friend's Brother Box Set covers five full novels with five different love stories, all sharing the same central premise: the boy falls in love with his best friend's brother. Despite the same central core plot, each of these books has a unique premise.
In book one, we have two men who end up sharing a cabin thanks to Big Brother forgetting that Little Brother is going to be there for the summer and offering the place to his best friend. Shawn and Cass spend the summer bonding, getting to know one another, and falling head over feet.
In book two, Leo, Shawn's older brother from the first book, is forbidden from hooking up with his roommate's twin brother when River comes to stay with them. Leo tries his hardest, but his attraction to River is undeniable. This book has a fun play on the forbidden lovers trope and is probably one of my favorite dynamics in the series.
In book three, Kai - River's twin brother from book two - invites an old friend that he reconnects with, Izzy, to the double wedding between Shawn and Cass and Leo and River. Kai and Izzy discover that they've known one another for longer than they thought, due to an online chat site they've both used for the past decade.
Book four transitions to another set of brothers and features the series' throuple. The dynamic between these three men and the bisexual awakening of one of the characters is amazing. This one was my absolute favorite of the series and the one I would probably recommend the most. It ties to the other books thanks to Russell's budding friendship with River from book two.
The finale of the series focuses on Russell's older brother finding love after a one night stand with his business partner's estranged brother. This book takes some of the forbidden romance of book two and combines it with a similar character archetype as Kai from book two, but still manages to come across as fresh and unique, different from the other books in the series.
As a whole, this series is incredibly low angst and has some very high steam scenes. I found them all to be enjoyable and devoured them over my vacation. Highly recommend this series for a fun and hot summer read.
I am a huge fan of R Cayden and this is one of my favorite series so this box set is perfect to re read all the books together at the same time. I enjoyed a lot how every story is about a couple and how they found each other in spite the unlikeness of their relationship. Of course, there is also a lot of cameos and you'd found many familiar characters in all the books. Every single book was entertaining, with an agile plot and sweet and endearing characters. I don't have a favorite, but the one I reread the most was Falling for trouble, because Jet and Peyton's story really got me at the end of my seat the whole time due to all the exciting drama and how love was the answer to everything. Simply, a perfect, wonderful treat.
What a great series! I love having all the books in a set so I could just keep reading. I absolutely loved these stories! I love the brothers best friend trope. These were very well written and so full of emotions! The characters were just great and I loved that they all were connected throughout the series. I loved all the guys but Casey really stole my heart! This is definitely a must read! I very highly recommend! Received arc and am voluntarily leaving an honest review
This is 5 yummy stories about crushing on the best friend's brother. There's something for everyone. Having a quickie with the guy your best friend hasn't seen in over a decade. Falling for the twin of your best friend and roommate. The geek falling for a hot tattooed guy. Falling for the secret online guy and realizing he's someone closer to you than you thought. These are low angst but good wholesome romances.
I had read and enjoyed a couple of these books before, but it was wonderful to get them all together and read them all in order. There is something here for fans of every trope - high school crushes met years later, m/m/m, surprise one-night stands that turn into more, brothers who approve, brothers who disapprove, lingerie and more. All the characters are real, three dimensional people, the way they meet/get together is enjoyable and everyone gets their HEA.
I really enjoyed reading this books. It was such a great series, I loved all of them. The heat and heart that was in all of them was great. I love the way that R. Cayden writes and each of these stories were amazing. I loved the way that each story had it's own unique footprint yet kept within the theme of best friend's brothers. I think that Forbidden Friend and The Geek Next Door were my favorites but each book was great on its own. I would absolutely recommend this book.
I have always wanted to read this series so I was extremely excited to see it as a box set! I enjoyed the all the low angst best friends brother romances contained in the series. It was a little slow for me at times but I still enjoyed the reading books and seeing the storyline progression.
I enjoyed these books even better because I could read them one after the other without having to wait for the author to write the next book. Each book is a standalone but as the characters are in each of the books it makes sense to read them in order. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
I received this book from GRR. This is my honest review.
I really enjoyed this set of MM romances. Fairly uncomplicated, sweet love stories with a variety of tropes, including best friend's twin, geeks, lost and found, multiple partners, unexpected temptation, and more. Minimal angst reads perfect for summer (or anytime!)
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
Contemporary collection of five MM/MMM romances. Easy to read, page-turners. Great to have all five books together in one collection and although I have read them all in the past it was really great to read the five stories one after the other as it created a nice flow and a greater connection with the other stories in the collection.
I loved reading these books individually and I was excited to see that they were now in a boxed set! I enjoyed re-reading them! I read an advanced copy of this boxed set and this is my unbiased review!
Very entertaining and sexy box set. I thoroughly enjoyed each of the books in this box set. These books have geeks, triads and bad boys complete with kink and have a common theme of falling for your brother’s best friend(s). They are low angst and well worth reading. I highly recommend.
Sweet, sexy and funny stories about love and the brothers of the best friends. This box set has all the series books in it. So many lives intertwined, awesome characters and romance. Geeky friends, twins, triads and more. There’s something for everyone I guess. Pretty enjoyable read!
Really enjoyed these books, and they definitely benefit from being binge read. This allows minor story arcs that may otherwise have been forgotten, to be enjoyed.
There are some books that are stronger, but even the 'weaker' one plotted is worth 3.75.
This is a great boxset. The stories are low angst, steamy and full of wonderfull characters. Easy to read and disappear into, I read the entire boxset in two sittings
Overall I would give this set a 4.2 stars. I will start with what I liked and that is book 5, I thought that story was great and was by far my favorite! I also liked book 1 and 2 and 4 was ok but I really hated booked 3.
I would need to give this book 4.2 stars for the varying quality but it is a fun read since you can get the entire series in 1 compiled set.
