I said to my loving husband, Ed, “I’ve always wanted to write a book. A story that readers would get lost in for a while.” He said, “Do it!” My daughter, Misty, brother, Mitch, and Mom, Sue said, “Take Ed’s advice, do it!” So I did. The road wasn’t easy, but the education, Amish research, and ride along the way to getting published taught me to take my favorite verse to heart.
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. Philippians 4:13 KJV
Why Amish Inspirational Romance? I love their dedication to serve God. I visited Amish Country in Ohio many times. They work hard and have such a close knit friendship with each other. It’s heartwarming and uplifting. At the same time, they face hardships and difficult problems just like we do.
God answered my prayers and gave me the best mentor, author, and friend, Patricia Campbell, to hone my skills. I’m blessed to have Dawn Dowdle as my agent, and John S. from Kensington as my editor.
I’m thank for you, the reader, for being interested in my book!

This story takes place in the year of 1914. Things were quite different then and arranged marriages were not uncommon especially among the Amish people. Magdelena Beachy had a crush on Toby Schlabach for quite a while. Toby didn’t ask her father if he could court Magdelena because she came from a wealthy Amish family and his family was poor. Tony was a hard worker and talented at making furniture. As time passed Tony decided to ask Mark Beachy for his permission to court Magdelena. A new family had moved to Charm Ohio and had bought a pig farm near the Beachy’s ranch. They were also a wealthy family and had a son about Magdelena’s age. The two families soon became the best of friends and their son Sach set his mind on courting Magdelena. When Toby approached Mark Beachy to ask permission to court Magdelena it was already too late. Sach had already asked Mark and had received his blessings and permission to court his daughter and eventually marry her. Magdelena wanted to have a choice in who she would marry but her mother and father thought Sach would be able to support her in the manner that she was accustomed to. Toby and Magdelena loved each other but Mark and Bernice refused to let their daughter marry the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. Zach refused to step back in respect of Magdelena’s feelings. She was being forced to marry a man she didn’t have any feelings for and there didn’t seem to be a thing that she and Toby could do about this arranged marriage her parents wanted for her. This book completely swept me in from the beginning. The characters just seemed to walk off the page and made the story seem so real. Molly Jebbers books get better and better and this one was definitely her best . I didn’t want to put the book down. It was a page turner and a very enjoyable read. I recommend Magdelena’s Choice to readers of historical romance and Amish fiction. It’s part of a series and can be read as a stand alone however since the characters are bought over from other books I would recommend that the books be read in order. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions expressed here are my own. #MegdelenasChoice#NetGalley
While reading MAGDELENA’S CHOICE I became emotionally invested in all of the characters. They are all flawed, real and lovable! Once I started reading, I was instantly hooked. I devoured every page and couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next. A couple of the characters drove me crazy but like Magdelena, I tried to see the best in all of them.
Magdelena has always been smitten with Toby. She comes from a well to do Amish family. Toby wants to make sure he has enough money and a house before he asks Magdelena’s father, Mark, for his permission to court her. Plus, his daed is sick and he must take care of his family. Mark doesn’t think Toby can provide for Magdelena and he is quickly in agreement on an arranged marriage for her with Zach. There is no way this can happen right? Do yourself a favor, grab this wonderful book, your favorite drink, and get on your couch and read it. MAGDELENA’S CHOICE is the perfect way to spend the day!
I quickly flew through MAGDELENA’S CHOCE and when I finished I found myself wanting more. I loved all of the characters and found myself wanting to travel to Charm, Ohio. The tender moments in the story really pull at the readers heart strings. MAGDELENA’S CHOICE is the fifth book in the Amish Charm Bakery series and takes place in 1914.
In MAGDELENA’S CHOICE I loved Toby and Magdelena, the primary characters, but also fell in love with all of the secondary characters as well. Every one of them has an important part to play in this heart warming story and even though I wanted to reach in and shake one or two of them every now and then, they all weaseled their way into my heart. My emotions were all over the place and I was even reaching for the tissues quite a few times. I would love to see this series continue for at least twenty more books. That’s how much I enjoy Molly Jebber’s writing! I can not wait to continue this beautiful series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from CelebrateLit. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Magdelena’s Choice by Molly Jebber is the fifth novel in the An Amish Charm Bakery series. Each book in An Amish Charm Bakery series can be read as a standalone. If you read them in order, it will allow you to become immersed in Charm and the lives of the ladies who work at the bakery. I thought Magdelena’s Choice contained good writing, and the story moved along at a steady pace. I like the characters in the story. I thought they were realistic, and their attitudes suited the time period. We get to meet Abram and Annie Hook who have just moved to Charm. Toby and Magdelena befriend the couple. We get to catch up with the characters from the other four novels in the series. I thought this was a clean, sweet Amish romance. I was not a fan of the repetition. Certain details are repeated over and over. I liked the issues raised in Magdelena’s Choice. Sometimes you need to be patient and wait for God’s timing. In the meantime, you must pray and continue to do good works. Charity Beachy was a delight. She is such a precocious child. She certainly knows who she wants to marry when she is old enough. I thought Charity and Peter were adorable together. I like how people supported Magdelena and Toby. It can be hard to be obedient when you want to follow your heart. The delicious items at the bakery will have your mouth watering. You will find yourself craving whoopie pies and snickerdoodles. Magdelena’s Choice is a charming Amish tale with scrumptious pastries, a clever and crafty Charity, an insistent suitor, a forceful father, compassionate mates, and a firm faith.
I honestly loved this book in all it's perspectives but some of it sort of fell flat for me. Don't get me wrong I really love Jebber's stories but there was just something different about this one. Toby and Magdelena were almost too perfect in my opinion. I will say that I loved the beautiful messages that reminds us to be patient and to let God work things out in His timing not ours. Needless to say that is NOT one of my virtues. On a positive note I was really happy to be back in Charm again. I enjoyed catching up with my old friends and making new ones especially Annie. My heart really went out to her. In my opinion, she's the best character. I loved her personality. She's a great gal to know! Zach is the pushy one who I didn't like nor Mark. I kind of thought those two went together at first because of their attitudes. Stubborn and set in their own ways is what them. I will say 4 stars simply because I thought the book was slow in some parts. Otherwise I liked it. I also will say that book 1 will always be my favorite! My thanks for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own and I was NOT required to write a positive review.
Oh, how I love reading an ARC of Magdelena’s Choice by Molly Jebber. Magdelena’s Choice is the fifth book in her Amish Charm Bakery series, but can be read as a standalone easily. However, I recommend reading the entire series as the characters are realistic and wonderful caring friends to each other at the bake shop.
Magdelena Beachy was a daughter of a rich cattle farmer who’s dad was prideful and insisted on his way. Toby Schlabach and Magdelena had been friends and admired one another for several years. Toby’s family was hardworking but not as blessed as the Beachy’s family with wealth. His father was one of the gentlest, loving and compassionate individuals Magdelena had known even during his illness plus her best friend was Toby’s sister Rachel. Magdelena’s father did not approve of her desire to court Toby, thus he arranged a marriage with a newcomer Zach, who’s family had wealth. But what extreme action will Magdelena take to be rid of Zach who was prideful, arrogant and only wanted her father’s cattle ranch? Magdelena and Toby knew in their hearts they were meant for each other and their compassion for others shined brightly for others even when they were told to stay apart.
Thank you to Netgalley, Kensington Publishers, and the author for an opportunity to read an ARC of this magnificent book without any obligation to write a review. I have shared my own thoughts and look forward to the next book in this series by Molly Jebber.
Great characters, a 'charming' setting, and strong Amish values are all parts of this latest book in the Amish Charm Bakery series. As we return to the gentle and peaceful Ohio community that we've come to love, it is 1914, and there's mention of the Great War that has just begun. In Charm, however, Magdelena Beachy is preparing for her own battle. She knows in her heart that Toby Schlabach is the perfect man for her, but her father has her future planned, and it doesn't include Toby!
Jebber is an author who has a unique talent for drawing us in, and keeping us invested, in her stories of faith, hope, and family, but she also makes us think, and she sometimes changes our views. Magdelena's Choice offers the intriguing aspect of an Amish man who desires material possessions, and even values money, and this is an attribute that I don't usually connect with the Amish simple life. This book is a thought-provoking addition to this entertaining series, and there's an added bonus of three of Magdelena's recipes for us to enjoy. If you like historical fiction and Amish romance, you will definitely want to read Magdelina's Choice!
I received a digital copy of this book from the author via Celebrate Lit. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.
Book 5 of The Amish Charm Bakery series, Magdelena’s Choice by Molly Jebber is perfectly named. Set in 1914, Magdelena Beachy is the oldest daughter of a wealthy Amish rancher. She cares only for Toby Schlabach and hopes he will soon ask her daed‘s permission to court her. She is also best friends with Toby’s sister, Rachel. Both work at the bakery. Rachael & Toby’s family need the money Rachael makes; Magdelena works there because she loves to bake and be with her good friends. Magdelena has always acquiesced to what her parents wanted, even on the occasions she didn’t agree.
And now, as a reviewer, I must be careful not to share too much because this story is too good to have key parts given away too soon. A crucial and essential element to remember is the year is 1914 and the family is Amish.
Characters in Magdelena’s Choice are carefully built by the author. In addition to Magdelena, Toby and Rachael, lead characters are:
Mark & Bernice Beachy, Magdelena’s parents. Mark loves his ranch and as an Amish man should not show pride. However, he is proud of his ranch and the money it generates. He is generous and loves his wife. Bernice is an Amish wife who never disputes her husband.
Charity Beachy, their youngest daughter, who is a bit of a spitfire. She seems to get away with stuff that Magdelena would not. You’ll like her and her best friend, Peter.
Vernon & Eleanor Schlabach, Toby & Rachael’s parents. Vernon is quite ill and is beloved by his family & the Amish community.
Aunt Gloria & Uncle Otis. Gloria is Mark’s sister and is close to Magdelena. They live in Mt. Hope.
Abram & Annie Hook, new to the Charm Amish community. Annie is friendly; Abram is anything but. And he is secretive.
Ethan & Ida Hilty and their son, Zach (same age group as Toby & Magdelena). The Hilty’s have just purchased a large farm.
Liza, owner of the bakery, and her husband, Jacob. Peter is their son.
Andrew, owner of the furniture store, where Toby works making furniture and a good friend of Toby’s.
Ever had a parent not listen to you? Refuse to believe the words you speak? What would cause an obedient young Amish woman to risk shunning? What exactly IS Abram hiding?
I had only read a novella by Molly Jebber before this book. Before I wrote this review, I marked follow (the author) on Amazon & Goodreads. I love an author who takes the time to build a story and the characters within. I have ‘want to read’ on the other books in this series. It is not necessary to have read the previous books to enjoy this one.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher, Kensington, via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Rating: 5 stars Cover rating: Weak. Red is not used in Amish homes and the cover does not depict a bakery. The green walls do not feel right either. The cover does not look like a 1914 setting. Expected publish date: January 25, 2022
Magdelena always considered her parents wishes. She trusted her parents judgments and valued their wisdom. Magdelena had developed strong feelings for Toby. She has known Toby all her young life. She has seen what he has done for his family. He works hard and considers others before himself. Toby has always been careful with every decision he has made and he wants to be sure that he will be able to care for Magdelena when he is ready to court her. Magdelena's family has a very successful cattle farm. Her family wants the best for Magdelena and Toby is not it.
Her father has a different choice for Magdelena and Magdelena see's Toby has her only choice. There is a real struggle in this Amish family that focuses on pride, trust and faith. To weed thru these emotions and what is right, Magdelena has to make a drastic choice for her family and the man she loves.
I really appreciated the struggle of faith and having a voice in your faith. To be heard in families is not always easy but when done, it brings a redemption that reaps rewards.
A special thank you to Kensington Books and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
Magdelena is the daughter of a wealthy rancher who wants her to marry a man that can provide for her in the way he has throughout her life. Magdelena's beau is not in her father's plan for her. But Magdelena is determined to be with Toby, until her father arranges a match for her that fits his plans for her. This story takes place in 1914. This is a really engaging story and I was caught up in it right away. What is Magdelena going to do, follow her heart or her father's choice for her? Going against her father, will cause her serious consequences and she needs to choose. Either way, there are things to lose.
Toby is working hard to find favor with Magdelena's father, but is it enough? I have not read the earlier books in the series, but felt that it was fine as a stand-alone, also. But that said, I wouldn't mind reading the previous books, if they are as enjoyable as this one.
I received a complimentary ebook from the author and NetGalley and was not required to leave a positive review. All thoughts are my own.
A sweet, clean story of Magdelena, who is deeply in love with Toby, even though his family is not as financially stable as hers. He works hard and looks forward to the day he is financially able to court her properly. Unfortunately, a new family moves in, and befriends Magdelena's family. Their son Zach set his sites on Magdelena. Both her family and his arrange a marriage between them, regardless of what she wants. They mostly ignore everything she has to say about it, until she has had enough and she leaves the area altogether. Soon they realize she really does love Toby, and it takes a neighbor's interference to change their minds before they will accept Toby. Great story I enjoyed!
MAGDELENA’S CHOICE by Molly Jebber is the sixth book in the Amish Charm Bakery series. It’s the wonderfully crafted story of Magdelena Beachy as she falls in love, extends the hand of friendship to a newcomer to town, and confronts family conflict as she prays for strength, wisdom and for a happily ever after.
Magdelena loves her hometown of Charm and her job at the Amish Charm Bakery where she works alongside Rachael, her best friend and sister to Toby. Magdelena has been fond of Toby since she first saw him, but that attraction has grown into hopes he would court her. Toby, unlike the Beachy family, has never been rich in money, but he’s a hard worker, has the love of his family and the respect of the community. So by Amish standards he is rich in the ways that count. Despite his great desire to court Magdelena, he feels he needs to prove to Vernon Beachy that he is worthy to court his daughter with means to provide for her and any upcoming family. He’s been working hard toward that goal. But has he taken too long - been too concerned about plans and how much money he has set back?
Ida and Ethan Hilty and their son, Zach, recently moved to Charm buying a large farm close by. Being of similar financial status and like minds in ranching, Magdelena’s father doesn’t hesitate to make his intentions known about an arranged marriage between the two families with Magdelena and Zach marrying. Zach’s all for it and won’t accept Magdelena’s attempts to let him down easy or the fact that she says her heart belongs to another. Whatever will she do? She cannot marry a man she doesn’t love, but going against her parents is forbidden for the Amish?
Intertwined in this marital dilemma Magdelena feels pulled towards Annie, who recently moved to town with her husband, Abram. Asking for Toby’s help, they befriend the couple and try to help them through some problems. In the end, it may be a case of who helped who.
Will the actions Magdelena feels she must do cause her to be shunned from all that she loves and knows? Will Toby ever measure up in her father’s eyes? What will it take for Vernon to see what’s before him? Will there be wedding vows in the future for Magdelena and Toby or years of unhappiness?
Molly Jebber writes an exception story for us in MAGDELENA’S CHOICE. She pulls all our emotion out on this one. There’s happiness for the growing affection and love between Magdelena and Toby, frustration at Zach’s inability to concede defeat and find another girl to court, hurt at how the Beachy’s can’t see their daughter’s choice as not only acceptable but the best choice for her, sorrow in the death of Toby’s sweet father, glee in the honest words of young Charity (Magdelena’s sister) and her cute relationship with Peter who she states emphatically will be her husband someday, relief when Aunt Gloria and Uncle Otis stand up for Magdelena and give her a place to stay and then the author wraps the whole bundle up with pure joy and happiness. MAGDELENA’S CHOICE will have you turning pages and wanting to read all the way through in one sitting. Then you sigh because it’s over, but maybe not completely as we are left with hints to who the seventh book might be about. I, for one, will be waiting with great anticipation because I know it will be every bit as grand a read as MAGDELENA’S CHOICE was.
Even though part of a series, MAGDELENA’S CHOICE can most definitely be read as a standalone. However, I think after reading this one you will be eager to read the others. I give it my FIVE STARS and highly recommend it for wonderful reading enjoyment!
Magdelena and Toby want nothing more than to be able to court each other and later marry. But with Toby’s dad very sick and the hours he works, it seems almost impossible. So when new neighbors move in with a son Magdelena’a age, her dad decides he is a better fit for Magdelena, especially since his family has money. But she doesn’t care about money, but neither dad nor Zach can get that through their heads.
I felt so bad for Magdelena. Her parents, Zach and his parents acted so immature. I didn’t care for Zach’s attitude at all. It wasn’t even believable for him to jump into the family and act like he was taking over. For me, this part of the storyline took entirely too much time. In fact it dragged on at the point of being boring. I’m sorry, I love Molly Jebber’s books, but this one was too slow for me for a while, then it gets better. I love the storyline, just needed some cut out. All in all, it was a sweet story. I loved Magdelena and Toby. I love Toby’s dedication to his dad. And their romance was so very sweet. Toby is a sweetheart and I hope to her from him more in the next books if there are more. I have thoroughly enjoyed these five books in the series. If you enjoy Amish reads, this is one you should try. This one is Four Stars for me.
A special thanks to the author/publisher for a copy of this book. I am not required to write a positive review, the opinions here are mine alone. I am disclosing this with my review in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.
Amish Fiction is one of my favorite Genres to read. Molly Jebber has quickly become a favorite Amish book author of mine. Magdelena's Choice is the fifth book in the Amish Charm Bakery series and I have read a couple of the first books in this series, so I was excited to read this book.
I truly enjoyed reading Magdelena's Choice. It is set in 1914. The relationship between Magdelena Beachy and Toby Schlabach is what makes this book a "read until you finish" book. The pair really loves each other, but Tony is afraid to admit it for a long while. Just was he is about to ask her to Court him, she discovers her father has arranged for her to court someone else. Magdelana is caught in hard choice, honoring her father's wishes or making her own choice. Will Toby get his oppurtunity to Court Magdelena? Does Magdelena go against her father's wishes?
Magdelena's Choice is short, easy book to read, yet it also is intriguing and reels you in for the whole book. I LOVE how the characters know they love each other and how caring and sweet they are towards each other. I think it is interesting that Magdelena wants to go against Amish roots and make a choice. GREAT book!
Step back in time to 1914 with Magdelena’s Choice, book 5 in Molly Jebber’s Amish Charm Bakery series. It is a charming and inspirational book focusing on obedience, faith and love.
I liked the narrative, and it works well as a standalone as I didn't even notice at first it was part of a series. Magdelena has a very difficult choice to make, a choice between following her parents and following her heart. However, being an Amish daughter, she doesn't have much of an option but to obey her parents.
Jebber presents Magdelena and Toby's struggles realistically, both because of their current life situations and because of Magdelena's parents' wishes.
Youngsters Charity Beachy and her best buddy, Peter, were a such delight to read about. I'd love to see more of them and their stories in the future, and perhaps even in their own story when they're older!
I received this book from Celebrate Lit and NetGalley. However, my review is voluntary, and all opinions are my own.
Magdelena and Toby were in love in Amish country. However, 'class' distinction ideas overtook Magdelena's 'daed' in very un-Amish-like fashion. He felt 'poor' Toby was not fit for his more well-to-do family. The two love birds strove valiantly to overcome this obstacle of prejudice yet remain obedient to her parents' wishes while not being subservient to them and the boundaries the Amish faith placed upon them.
There is sadness and humor but will there also be victory? I do like how the pair gallantly honor God in how they give their expectations to Him and let Him decide the outcome in His good timing and way. Over all, this has been a very pleasing story for me to read.
Additionally, there are some yummy looking recipes for baked goods nestled at the end of the book. These were refered to in the story, from the bakery where Magadelena worked. I believe I'll give at least one of them a try.

Disclaimer: This is my honest opinion based on the review copy sent by NetGalley and the publisher.
This is book five in the Amish Charm Bakery series and it continues to charm me. It takes us back to a simpler time in the early 1900’s in Charm Ohio. It makes me want to visit Charm and experience this. I loved that the characters have problems that we watch unfold to be solved by the end. The characters are easy to identify with as they have real thoughts and feelings instead of being perfect. This book is heartwarming as it deals with family, friendships, faith, and sweet romance while also dealing with life altering changes. I especially like that we get caught up on previous characters that feel like old friends. I look forward to more in this series especially Rachel having her own story as she is endearing. Grab this book, a hot drink, a cozy afghan and curl up for an entertaining read while the snow continues to blow. I received a complimentary copy from CelebrateLit/author. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.
Magdelena's Choice is the fifth installment from Molly Jebber's Amish Charm Bakery series. This Amish historical takes a reader back in time to 1914 Ohio. I enjoyed this story and thought it was a pretty good read. I instantly felt connected to Magdelena from page one. I wanted to root for her and was hoping all would end well for her. I just had to find out what would happen with her and Toby next.
I am giving Magdelena's Choice four and a half stars. I look forward for more upcoming releases by Molly Jebber in the future. I highly recommend this one for those who enjoy a good, well written, sweet and clean Amish story.
I received a paperback copy of Magdelena's Choice from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
I enjoyed catching up with old friends and making new ones especially Annie. My heart really went out to her. Zach is the one who I didn't like or Mark. I kind of thought those two went together at first until a friend made a difference. I will say 4 stars simply because I thought the book was slow in some parts. Otherwise I liked it. I also will say that book 1 will always be my favorite! My thanks for a copy of this book. All opinions are my own and I was NOT required to write a positive review.
The author always has a way to make her stories come to life. It is easy to see the Amish farms and feel part of their social gatherings because the author uses words that are very descriptive. The town is so inviting and I feel like it would be a wonderful place to raise a family. The excitement of reading a book from this author is hard to contain because she welcomes readers with grace and compassion through her characters.
Magdelena is such a sweet young woman. She is the type that is always there to help others and her ability to make people feel welcome at the bakery sure helps business. I enjoyed getting to know her parents better. I wasn’t too happy with her father as he seemed arrogant at times. Amish never brag and don’t think of themselves as more important than others. Magdelena’s father has no problem letting people know he is wealthy and harbors the fact that he is prideful. It is so sad to know the happiness of his daughter is ignored when Magdelena is upset about a pre arranged marriage.
Toby is so smitten with Magdelena and it was evident that the feelings were returned. Young love is so sweet and the author shows how they must rely on God to help them make the right decision about their future together. Toby does face a loss that shatters his family. The author guides readers through the grieving process that Toby faces and illustrates the important of surrounding yourself with Godly people who will be there to encourage you and show compassion as you go through the difficult days ahead. This part of the story really impacted me because I know a few people right now who are going through a grieving process. Like Toby, they need to know that they aren’t alone. Magdelena is especially aware that Toby needs her support during this time.
The story takes a look at what happens when someone goes against their parents wishes. It is so hard to think that because you disagree with your parents, you would be shunned. Will Magdelena goes against her Amish upbringing to marry the man she loved? There is turmoil in the town as families are fractured and divided by their beliefs. The emotions run high as Magdelena and Toby are torn about what to do. This is a great book that shows how prides and secrets can destroy trust. Don’t miss this story that brings a lesson in listening to God and making amends to bring restoration back to a family.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
"Magdelena's Choice" is Jebber's fifth book in the Amish Charm Bakery series, & I really enjoyed it. Hold on to your hat, because it's a real whirlwind of activity, and a pager turner, for sure!
Magdelena and Toby have liked each other for a long time. Could their fondness for each other turn into something more? But wait, a newcomer has come to town by the name of Zach, and he's VERY interested in Magdelena, as well as taking over her father's ranch someday. Both sets of parents agree that Zach is the best choice for Magdelena, despite her protests. Can anything be done to avoid this forced marriage and a life of misery for Magdealena? Amish fiction fans won't want to miss this wonderful story, and even more so if you've read the other books in this series.

Author Molly Jebber has written an outstanding Christian Amish historical romance with Magdelena’s Choice. This is Book 5 in her The Amish Charm Bakery series, but it can be read as a stand alone. It is so different from usual Amish stories. My interest was captured early, and I became invested in the story and characters.
Set in early 1900’s Charm, Ohio, this is Magdelena Beachy’s story. She is a lovely Amish girl, works in the bakery, and helps her family as all dutiful Amish daughters are taught to do. She and Toby Schlabach have had eyes for each other for a long time. She is from a wealthy Amish family but he is just an average guy. He wants to be able to support her before he proposes. Her father does not think Toby will ever be able to do that.
A new family moves into town. They have a lot of money and a son, Zach, that is interested in Magdelena. Her father seizes this opportunity to make some decisions that should be Magdelena’s.
The author has written a story full of timeless life lessons about greed, character, priorities, obedience, submission, love, hope, and trusting God. Characters are vibrant and come to life on the pages. It was easy to become engrossed in the story and be taken to Charm. I felt like I was there as I cheered in some places and shook my head in others.
I highly recommend this Amish novel. Any lover of Amish fiction will be delighted with it. Author Jebber writes realistic Amish books that are fascinating and this one is no exception. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. A copy was provided by Celebrate Lit but these are my honest words.
Magdelena’s Choice is part of the Amish Charm Bakery Series that is written by Molly Jebber. I have read most of the series, but not all of the books. This book is set in 1914. I love how much detail the author puts into making her story as accurate as possible. I did not realize how common that arranged marriages for the Amish Community was back then. This story focuses on Magdelena. She comes from a wealthy family. She has a crush on Toby. However, Toby does not come from a wealthy family. Toby however is a very hard worker and wants to get his nerves together to ask for permission to court Magdelena. His dad has been sick, and he has been trying to make sure he has enough money to support her the way she is used to.
However, a new family moves to town. This family is more aligned with Magdelena's. By this I mean they are more well off then Toby and his family. Magdelena's family hits it off with the new family - and Magdelena is arranged to marry one of their sons. Magdelena does not want to do this - and wants to marry Toby. Her family will not hear of it.
What would happen if Magdelena and Toby defied what their family wanted. Will Magdelena's family shun her? Will they force her into a marriage she does not want to be in?
I love how the author brought these characters to life. I really felt like I was watching everything unfold. She always does such a great job with this. Her characters are well written, well developed. I received a copy of this book through the Celebrate Lit Blogging Program, All thoughts are my own.
Magdelena’s Choice is a sweet and fun Amish historical fiction novel that will give you all the warm fuzzies and leave you wanting more. I have been reading all of the wonderful books in the Amish Charm Bakery series and love them all! I can’t wait for more and highly recommend them all.
This was such a fun book. You go back in time to 1914 and into an Amish community where arranged marriages are still the thing. Magdalena though wants to have a choice. She doesn’t know for sure that she wants the rich next-door neighbor as her husband. There is a nice “wrong side of the tracks” young man who is in the running as well.
I thought this was such a fun book to read. It read quickly and felt like I had just started it when it ended. I love a good suspense book but there is something to be said for the historical romances you can read before bed without having disturbing dreams or nightmares. I highly recommend this read to all readers. It’s clean enough even your teenagers can read it.
Do please do yourself a favor and read the whole series though. They are each wonderful. They can all be read as stand-alone but why not allow yourself five great reads instead of just one?!
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.
I’ve enjoyed all the books in the “Amish Charm Bakery” series and Magdelena’s story was quite interesting. Author Molly Jebber has given us an intriguing storyline set in the year 1914. It highlights the Amish tradition of those times that involved arranged marriages.
The two main characters, Magdelena and Toby, are faithful and caring Amish young people who deeply love both God and their families. Their love for each other is strong and they look forward to the day that Toby will be in a position financially to ask Magdelena’s father for permission for them to marry. However, her father has his sights set on another young Amish man, Zach, who seems to be in a better financial situation to provide for Magdelena. Her father proceeds to arrange a marriage between Magdelena and Zach. Facing a heart-breaking situation, Magdelena makes a choice that has a great impact on both she and Toby, as well as their families.
There are so many ways a story like this could go and I appreciated the way that the author allowed these characters to make honorable choices throughout the book. It’s a wonderful story that has strong themes of faith, hope, and love in times of adversity. This book kept me turning pages to see the results of Magdelena’s choice and it’s now one of my favorite books by this author.
I voluntarily received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
It was fun to revisit the city in Charm and those involved with the Amish Charm Bakery. In Magdelena’s Choice, author Molly Jebber focuses on Magdelena and Toby, the man she would like to spend the rest of her life with. Her parents interfere but she has the support of her friends as well as other family members. I really appreciate the way Magdelena and Toby handled the situation, with a desire to honor Magdelena’s parents yet not have her give in to an arranged marriage. I love the recipes Molly Jebber includes at the end of the book. She also includes a glossary of Amish terms used in the book. Many of the characters who previously appeared in the Amish Charm Bakery series find their way into this story. It really is like revisiting old friends if you have read previous volumes. While it would be helpful to have read the other titles, it is not necessary to do so in order to enjoy this novel. While Magdelena’s Choice is an adult novel, it would be appropriate for a k-12 Christian school library. It is appropriate for middle school and up. I received a complimentary copy of Magdelena’s Choice. This is my honest review.
January 25, 2022, will bring a brand new book. Magdelena's Choice, by Molly Jebber. Thank you Kensington Books, Zebra for allowing me to read a ARC of this wonderful story.
Molly brings us another story in the The Amish Charm Bakery series with Magdelena Beachy and Toby Schlabach as love interest in the story. Magdelena is the daughter of a rich Amish rancher and Toby is a hardworking fellow with a talent to build beautiful furniture and has a kind heart with strong Amish values. All this does not seem to be enough for Magdelena's father who has a strong desire for his daughter to marry someone who can give her the future he wants for her and feels she deserves.
How can Magdelena and Toby begin courting when her father is determined to arranged a match with someone else? Will she risk, family, friends, and shunning in order to have Toby.
A different story that will hold your interest for beginning to surprise ending.

I really enjoyed "Magdelena’s Choice" by Molly Jebber . I really felt the character's feelings as I read this book and yes, a few tears fell. This is a story of standing up for what you know is right. It is a story of faith, family and forgiveness. and friendship.
This book was not your average Amish novel, in that a father valved money and prestige. You have to admit that is strange for Amish parents.
I really like Charity and Peter and Magdelena's aunt and uncle. I am wondering if another book is coming in this series, this is book 5. It can be read as a standalone but I recommend reading the books in order as they mention other characters from the previous book.
I really like how the author includes a Keepsake Pocket Quilt in each of her stories. The "Keepsake Pocket Quilt" series are from a different series by this author by she included ones in her other stories.
I think this book is my favorite of the series ( even with the worthy Amish).
I received a complimentary copy from the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own
Magdalena’s Choice by Molly Jebber is book 5 in the Amish Charm Bakery Series You can read this book as a stand along however I suggest you read the series as each book adds to the enjoyment of not only the characters of the book , but to the over all enjoyment of the entire series. In this book Magdalena’s Choice you will see how making a choice and standing up for that choice can alter your life’s path, however it can also strengthen your relationships if you have the faith to hold true to God’s plan for your life and not give in to others plans instead. You will also see that true friendships can mean the difference in one’s life and if you stay strong and faithful to that friendship it can last a lifetime but it can also change one’s life. This is one of the best book in the series and I hope we see more. I really hope you all read not only this book but the whole series. I highly recommend it.
Welcome back to the Amish Charm Bakery!! Magdalena, along with her friends Liza, Rachel, Ellie, and Maryann are back! Magdalena loves Toby, but her father doesn’t think they would be a good match. Instead, he arranges a marriage with Zach, a newcomer. There is also a secondary story with new neighbors Annie and Abram Hook. I love how Molly Jebber weaves all of the characters together. This is a sweet Amish fiction story. The middle grew a little repetitive, but love won in the end. I’m hoping that Rachel will get a story of her own next!! This is the fifth book in the series. I highly recommend reading the books in order. You will see the relationships grow through the books. I want to thank the author, Zebra Publishers and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
What I think you should know: Magdalena’s Choice is the fifth book in the Amish Charm Bakery series by Molly Jebber. While this book can be a standalone I recommend reading the previous books in the series so that you get the stories and back stories that build up to this book. The story is set in 1914 in an Ohio community where Amish families and English families still lived and worked in close proximity with each other. This book follows Magdalena and Toby who we have met in previous books.
What I think about this book: Jebber once again whisked me away to 1914 Charm, Ohio, a community whose residents have captured my imagination. By the fifth book in a series I feel like I am dropping in on old friends and this book was no exception. Toby’s character captured me before Magdalena’s due to the sacrifices that he has made for his family. I was very excited to see him get his chance at a happy ending. I really appreciate the details that Jebber put into this book and the way that she used some of the supporting characters to show that even though the Amish strive to set themselves apart they still have many struggles that other Christian communities struggle with. This was a wonderful addition to the series, I look forward to reading more about this community in the future.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
