Ian thought the hardest things on his agenda were the twin tasks of finding a new job and keeping his ex-navy buddy Bobby from becoming another statistic. The kind that comes back from war without a scratch but can’t manage the transition to civilian life.

Then a chance encounter in a dark alley changes everything. Instantly, he is plunged into a world beyond his understanding. A world with Dragons.

And then there’s Kaitlyn. Beautiful and vulnerable and needing his help— right now. But can he really embrace this new reality in order to recue her? Because suddenly the stakes are much higher, and the survival of the planet may depend on his decisions. Unless it’s all in his head…

Elyce de Reefe grew up in Santa Cruz, California and New York City. She likes to call herself a coastal girl, since she has spent nearly all of her time on one coast or another. She enjoys all genres of romance as long as there’s a hot, sexy hero with something to learn, a smart female lead who refuses to compromise on who she truly is, and the promise of a happily ever after. Her characters often find themselves on a journey of discovery, struggling to achieve true intimacy while solving the real-life problems thrown in their way.

To date, Elyce has written paranormal wolf shifter romance, contemporary romance, and romantic suspense. But there’s a Sci-Fi series in there waiting to come out, and possibly an epic fantasy series, as well as thoughts on a time travel story. Her ancestors were highlanders, after all.

Elyce loves hiking in nature, riding horses, watching wildlife, swimming under a blue sky, digging in the dirt, and sitting in front of a fire with a good book. She enjoys these things even more in the company of friends and family. Add wine and chocolate, and voila! It’s a beautiful life.

Oh, yes – and she has a very special place in her heart for wolves…

I received a free copy of this book by signing up for the author's mailing list.

Ian, the main character, is ex-military and just trying to live. He checks on his landlord, Mrs. Gee, and runs to the aid of his parents when called. He's concerned about Bobby, his fellow brother in arms and friend. So, Ian goes out with him in hopes that Bobby will find a woman to at least take his mind off things for a while. That's when things go sideways for Ian.

Reading this book reminded me of the movie Venom. I found this story amusing. The ancient dragon was bossy. He needed a surrogate and lucky Ian was chosen. He wanted a mate so he chose unsuspecting Kaitlyn. He had a mission that needed completing after a 400 year detour and he was determined to see it through.

There is a push/pull between Ian and the dragon through the whole book. I liked that the characters were straight forward with each other. There were several loose ends that were used to create a "next time" for future books. The pacing was great until the end, then it dragged a little. I found myself wanting to know more. Overall, it was a good first read from this author. I look forward to the next book.

This book starts of with the character not knowing what happened to him, as he finds out about how his life has changed we go along with him. It’s a different pace to what the author’s other books are but still entertaining. Can’t wait to see how this series progresses.
