Murder at Greenwood Hall

Rate this book
Inspired by the classic whodunits of Agatha Christie and Margaret Millar, but set in the best decade ever (the '90s, that is), this multilayered mystery sees a college-aged amateur sleuth race to solve a murder that was committed in her very dorm room over a decade earlier. (Rated "PG," no graphic violence or profanity, suitable for Young Adult audience.)

"You need to be more careful. I won't tell but someone else might if they catch you."

The anonymous note with its cryptic warning has lain hidden for years by the time Claudette Sato discovers it tucked away in a secret compartment of the desk inside her dorm room. Who wrote the note, she wonders, and who was it addressed to? What did that person need to "be more careful" about? Had they heeded the note's warning, or had they gone on recklessly with whatever it was they were up to--and had they paid a price for it?

As they seek the answer to these questions about the note's origins, Claudette and her investigative sidekick, Burl Gardner, follow a trail of clues from one small town in their Atlantic Northeast home to another, uncovering a thirteen-year-old web of secrets and lies... which just might have a serial killer at its center.

Another enjoyable outing with 1990s college sleuths Claudette and Burl, who we first met in Wibking's debut mystery novel The Murder of Mr. Twist. This time the quirky duo take on a decade-old cold case involving a serial killer. Lots of twists before the final reveal that I didn't see coming. Two butter thumbs up!
