The new werewolf compound is haunted, and Babylon, the only Perkins sister with necromancer skills, is just the right witch for the job. Except this ghost is under a curse and breaking it means a one-way ticket to the world of the elves. There is a way Babylon will be able to break the curse and return to Accident, but it involves tying herself to the architect of hell, a demon that Babylon is already falling for.
It seems like a win/win situation, but the youngest witch of the Perkins clan has a secret. A secret that might land her in an infernal prison. A secret that might ruin her chances for a happily ever after.
Debra lives in a little house in the woods in Maryland with three sons, and a Noah’s ark of four legged family members. She has a corporate job during the day, and writes novels at night, after the kids are tucked in bed.
She drives an Excursion affectionately called The Beast, couldn’t carry a tune if you duct taped it to her back, and enjoys an occasional cosmopolitan (heavy on the vodka). On a good day, she jogs and horseback rides, hopefully managing to keep the horse between herself and the ground.
Her only known super power is ‘Identify Roadkill’.
THIS WAS A 2.5 STAR BOOK BUT LIKE WE ALL KNOW GOODREADS DOES NOT ALLOW HALF STARS AND I THOUGHT I WOULD BE NICE AND ROUND UP MY RATING
For the last book in the series, it was very average. There weren’t any standout characters and everyone seemed to have a one-dimensional character. Both main characters were entirely average where we only saw the surface level of each of them. The conflict was incredibly average and the big conflict seemed just like it was another small challenge.
You would think that the main conflict would be the fact that Babylon half resurrected a soul and now people are looking for that soul. But it was more of a plot device to get the main characters to meet. And was resolved rather easily. Probably could’ve been more excitement to that plot line.
Then the conflict with the cursed elves could have been more developed but it was just very average and very shallow. It was a lowercase “oh” moment. Like a blip in the book.
Then there’s hades’ underworld which I sort of get but like kinda unnecessary and maybe if there were some scenes there, it would’ve been more relevant. I also feel like the renovations of hell plot didn’t need to be there. And maybe the architect part of hades could have been more.
Also, I really thought that since Hades is an architect, he would make plans for Cassie’s house to renovate her kitchen and dining room for the purpose of seating all 7 sisters and boyfriends. Like, I really thought that would be part of the plot.
I mean, it was probably because this book was incredibly short that Dunbar couldn’t fit everything but also it felt like everything was underdeveloped and this book was written very quickly just to finish the series. I guess there was like no real emotion behind anything, it was just an incredibly light read, so incredibly light that is was just par.
Also, the romance sucked. Like it was so shallow. Dunbar said “haha love at first sight and now we don’t need to see any development in their relationship”. They were the perfect match and all the problems that came up were resolved instantly. Like ✨m a g i c✨
Anyway, I probably haven’t explained every thought properly but yeah long story short, it was just average in every aspect.
So I binged the entire series and as this is the last book, this review is for the series as a whole.
One of my pet peeves is when characters are given attributed that are not displayed in the dialogue. Like when a girl says “he’s kind and funny” but bone of their interactions actually go into how they are kind and the banter isn’t funny or conversational topics show how they are kind. This was not as much of an issue in this book, compared to others in this series. Enough that I noticed the improvement.
The fact I read the entire series is proof of my enjoyment. The books could have been longer since the resolutions for every but the first are oversimplified as are the romance arcs. The trauma the sister’s share is a type that grows roots into more responses than are presented; the potential for more rounded characters and storylines is there but minimally explored.
And that is mostly due to the author’s creativity and imagination in building the foundations for this off-shoot reality.
Definitely worth a read. My favorite books in this series are the first and this one, the last. I think too much is missing in the others’ stories to be as good as the first and last. My favorites feel complete, but those in the middle feel like they could have been double the length - missing the meat of the story. Or maybe having meat but no mayo, mustard and pickles.
I loved this conclusion to the Perkins sisters series!
Babylon has always felt like the outsider, having necromancy as her talent, and tries to strike out on her own in the human world outside of Accident. Her newest roommate, a zombie she resurrected might make that a bit hard.
Hades, the architect of underworld, is suddenly tasked with figuring out why several souls vanished from hell, heaven and the purgatory only to be returned an hour later. All but one soul who is still missing. His investigation puts him on Babylons path.
It’s very much insta-love with these two but I couldn’t be happier for it! Babylon deserves someone who understands her kindness and her talent and isn’t afraid of it. And Hades is perfect for her and his gentleman ways just make me swoon.
I love how they both are a little hesitant at revealing themselves and the baggage they carry but when they do, it’s adorable to witness. And Maude-zombie is so gentle and wonderful too!
This series has been a true delight to read and I’m giggling like happy at the conclusion.
The series certainly ends on a high note when the seventh Perkins sister hooks up with Hades, architect of the underworld. They both have their issues but realize that they need to team up to resolve a series of issues plaguing Accident. As always, the characters are fresh and fun and there are several laugh out loud moments in the course of the narrative. I thoroughly enjoyed this series and the town of Accident with its unique blend of supernaturals and am sorry to see it end.
Babylon has always been the sister with the creepy powers. Necromancer with self-taught skills has two major problems to solve but she gets a little help from Hades himself. Werewolves, elves and a nasty cause to break. She finally finds a guy who appreciates her unusual talents.
This was fun, sweet and wholesome in a feel good way. I love this world and the quirky Perkins sisters. Babylon and Hades might be my favorite couple. They are so cute.
Babylon's story did not disappoint! Hades is perfect for her. I've enjoyed the Perkins sister's and the residents of Accident. Hopefully we'll get some more stories from this world.
I have to give this book and the whole series 5 stars. The characters are great, the stories are deep and we'll thought of, and the delivery of the humour is second to none.
I’ve loved this series and am so sad I’ve come to an end. Hope to see some of these characters in a spin off! If you want a fun, fast, fantastic read check out all 7 of the Accidental Witches books!
I don’t usually ready cozy paranormal romance, but I really like Debra Dunbar’s other series so I gave this one a shot. Overall I enjoyed the series, but I felt that Devils and the Dead was the weakest of the seven books.
I think this is the last book in the series. I am glad the Lonnie got to finally meet someone. I wish there are more books in the series. The stories are very easy to read. Debra Dunbar is a very good writer. I hope to read more of her stuff.
I loved seeing the loose ends come together in this book...especially with how they slowed down a bit. I enjoyed the slow draw out and everyone's happy endings. It was a great way to end the series.
This was an enjoyable addition to a light hearted and fun series. I think I may have enjoyed this last book more though if the MCs met earlier in the book. (The two MCs didn’t actually meet until halfway into the book.) I’m not sure if this is the last book in the series or if there’s one more Perkins family story planned for the cousin Aaron. Either way no regrets reading this series. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
