It becomes even worse when Edwin agrees with Callie’s mother that writing is a waste of time. Will Callie's passion and gift win through, and will Edwin finally see the beauty of his young wife's words?Callie's story is one of the amazing tales in the Western romance collection, Young Love Historical Romance Volume 4, by #1 bestselling clean Christian romance author Misty Shae. Each story is a great read in itself, and can be read alone, or even better read them all as part of this adventurous feel-good series.
This book was so unbelievable Kaylee becomes a mail order bride to a man with two children she has a cook clean intend the children and yet she supposedly stays up all night writing stories because she wants to write that bad and she does this night after night. Her husband isn’t the nicest nor the most warm husband yet she’s falling in love with them anyway. I’m starting to think these brides have Stockholm syndrome, because who falls in love with someone who is it sweet or warm or does romantic things for you. Although there are times he is nice and she ate it him robotically. I just really didn’t like the story as the other stores in the Siri’s it made no sense
Well this story of Callie and Edward spoke to me on many levels because I am a Western Nebraska girl by birth and education. Lincoln was my home for a few years for school and the birth place for my 3 sons - and winters there were exactly like those described in this book. The storyline was very well done and it was nice to see the love and respect that blossomed over a winter shut in together for this sweet couple. Good characters on all levels enhance the story.
Callie is a young lady who lives in New York. She loves to read and writes her own stories. Her mother sends her to Nebraska to marry a widower with three children. She has no choice. She marries Ernest as soon as she arrives. She tries to read to the children, but her husband thinks it is a waste of time. She continues her writing at night after everyone else is in bed.
Callie’s stepmother, Mrs. Whitaker, Absolutely could not understand why Callie loved to read Novels and write them. She sent Callie to marry Edward way out west because she was tired of her foolishness. Writing— that just doesn’t makes sense to her. The story begins. Enjoy.
A warm, endearing story about Callie’s involuntary transition from high society to hard working pioneer life. Her life was completely transformed by sudden immersion into a full family of children, harsh weather, and a widower but the outcome is touching and worth the read.
Callie was chastised for always writing by her mother and sent to Nebraska to marry a widower with 3 children. Her life was now very different from her upbringing, but her love for writing was still strong.
A wonderful mail order bride story. I loved that it had so much adventure and hardships but it was much too short for this kind of adventure. Loved that she managed her passion.
I can't imagine not supporting my kids' wants and ambition, much less sending them away to marry a stranger. But that's exactly what happens to the main character in this book.
