The Edge of Cascadia
In a world ravaged by radiation, the last colony has gone to extreme measures to ensure successful human reproduction, but is it worth the cost?
Annabelle lives in the last colony of people on Earth and is considered an old maid at age 22. In fact, she only has three more years before the Colony denies her motherhood. She doesn't worry about this fact because she works for the Parenthood Association which grants permission to worthy couples petitioning for parenthood. She figures when she finds the right man, she'll easily attain permission and the status perks that come with parenthood.
She loves her life, and the Colony, until the day her grandmother dies and leaves her a key that unlocks a secret. Shaken by her grandmother's final words, she begins to doubt everything. Her trust in the Colony is further tested when she embarks on a mission to the ruins of Seattle. She begins a new quest for answers even though she fears what she might find.

S.A. Sebuchi crafted an intriguing, fast-paced novel set in a creative world with wonderfully developed characters. The twists were perfectly timed. It was like taking a historical trip through the Oregon Trail only in a future that has yet to come. I can’t wait until the sequel comes out!

Post-apocalyptic stories usually have a dark, and suffocating atmosphere. Not in S. A. Sebuchi's brilliant debut novel. Despite of the tragic events the world went through, and all the evil that people do to suppress others in this novel, the promise of something better to come turns the grey skies to blue over Washington. S. A. Sebuchi achieves this by emphasizing the invincibility of nature, love and the human will to survive.
The Edge of Cascadia is a gripping adventure story with complex characters, impressive scenes and all the classic means of writing to make it an unputdownable book. S. A. Sebuchi is clearly an accomplished author and by reading this novel, the reader can witness the birth of a future classic.

I've received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The Edge of Cascadia is a futuristic post-apocalypse novel. The Third World War has already happened; a nuclear winter and a killer virus have swept the earth. The only survivors are living in the Colony.
To add to their ever-dwindling resources, the leaders send out teams to score the surrounding cities. But too soon, these are also scraped bare, and a seven-man team is sent out to Seattle. Their aim is twofold. Check if it is safe from radiation, and explore to see what resources are available.
But the team finds more than what they expected, and these discoveries turn everything they believe about the Colony on its head.
The author manages to write a gripping novel with a well-developed cast of characters. She uses descriptive language to paint a stark contrast between the Colony and the world outside - which is supposed to be barren and unlivable.
The reader is experiencing this journey from various character's viewpoints, helping them understand their thoughts and feelings about the dangers and events they encounter during their explorations.
It is a novel about love, betrayal, unexpected discoveries, and human relationships. And the open ending makes you look forward to the sequel of the book to find the answer to the questions raised in The Edge of Cascadia.

Wow. I really enjoyed this book. We never know what the future of the human race is, and its interesting to me all the different theories of how we try to save ourselves when 'The End' comes.
This takes place in the pacific northwest, and its told through different peoples prospective. I really liked Annabelle, as she was the relatable female of the group of people sent out by the colony that they live in. What they were taught was they were they last ones lest on earth, that their leader saved them from nuclear winter caused by war. What they find surprises everyone.
I cannot wait for the next book in the series to come out. They left off talking about going back to the colony and exposing the real secrets it kept from its people, and I know there will be just as many twists and turns as this book!

August 18, 2021The Edge of Cascadia (The Last Colony #1) is an exciting book that "has it all"! The premise is intriguing and believable, the characters are complex and interesting, the action is suspenseful and satisfying. Plus, the settings are accurately and beautifully described, making it easy to imagine the events as they take place. I loved this book. I am as anxious as Annabelle is to discover the secret her grandmother's key will reveal!
