*SWOON-FILLED SIGH* One of my favorites this year!
"We'll find a way through this, I promise. Together. I'm with you."
I love that feeling of opening a new book and never knowing where the story is going to take you. Well, I just took a trip to dystopian London and its environs and I enjoyed every second of it!

Maya has always known something was off about her privileged existence under the Dome in the heart of London. She can't seem to take anything at face value and she finally decides that her questions need answers, answers that she won't get unless she goes out and finds them herself . . . which leads her to Juan.

Gah! I loved these two.

Maya was a wonderful combination of pragmatic and optimistic.
"Maybe I am scared," she said. "But I'm at peace with the fear when you're here."
Juan, on the other hand, was thoroughly jaded.
"Sometimes the stars are just the stars."
But somehow they suited each other perfectly.

I really loved the tone of Within You. It was quiet, intelligent, and thoughtful.
"At the end of the day, there are many things more terrible than thoughts."
And the quality of the writing was aspirational.
Juan's thumb was a soft metronome over the back of her hand. Maya drew a deep breath and let the peace of it fill her.
I'm so looking forward to whatever comes next from this author!

I was lucky enough to be given an arc read of “Within You” the debut book from Amber Night. I loved it, the romance build up between Maya and Juan was perfection and just so 🔥
I was hooked from the start with a post pandemic world where Maya had left her life in The Zone to find liberation in The Ring.
It has a slow burn, but the burn is so good!
Awesome debut from this author! Looking forward to reading more of her books 🙂

*ARC COPY GIVEN TO ME*

What a wonderful story. I adored the romance and the writing was soo so so so good and descriptive and there were some new words I learnt. Amazing worldbuilding. The concept just really stood out to me too from 'ordinary' dystopian novels. Overall a beautifully written romance story !!! Highly recommend 😊

Dropped into the dizzying world of 2159 London, so much is different, and yet the same. Pandemics and climate crisis, energy shortages spiral out of control. Maya navigates the gulf between the affluent and safe Zone and dangerous Ring as she seeks out the truth behind secrets and sanctioned history – why have her questions been silenced? what have her teachers not told her? And her parents – what happened to her father?

Strong-willed and at times cheeky, Maya seeks answers to her questions by dropping out of her affluent life and taking a job at a working-class pub in the depths of the Ring. As a reader, I LOVE the details of pub life – a tray of dropped and shattered glasses that elicits cheers and applause from the patrons, the smell of whisky, the fast-paced bustle of table service and pulling pints. It is these details that make the relationship between Maya and her boss, Juan, and the world they inhabit, so believable.

The divide between social classes is extreme, resources scarce, threat of surveillance is palpable, Within You is like 1984, but with a real romance at heart – a slow burning, heated relationship unfolds between Maya and Juan, all set against the gritty realism of an urban dystopian landscape – I cannot wait for the continuation of their story.

Bottom line -- I highly recommend this for lovers of either dystopian novels or romance -- this book stands well on its own in either category. And, I loved this book.

Amber Night is a new author for me and I to be honest I haven't read a lot of dystopian type of books and so a lot of first's and I have to say I was hooked pretty quickly.

Amber painted a picture for me that made it very easy to sit back and just enjoy this journey of firstly Maya and then Juan.

This was a reasonably slow burn and I have to say it added to the story. I have to say Juan threw me a couple of times with his attitude to Maya and I struggled a little bit with this and I am not sure if I take my hat of to Maya for her persistance or giving him another chance... That might be my jaded view.

Any who, it was an enjoyable story that had everything that you want in a story. Amber delivered it and she did it really well. Congrats and well done.

I look forward to seeing what else Amber can create as she is certainly a very talented Author.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I was given an advanced read copy of Within You to read prior to release in exchange for an honest review.

I LOVED IT. Here's a secret, I'm not that crazy about romance novels. I don't mind romance, but most of the ones I've read have very little by way of plot, or character development. That is not the case with Within You. We have a thought out dystopian society set not too far in the future. A lovely twist on good girl bad boy trope. There's POC rep with an interracial relationship. The twists and turns in the story kept me hooked; and the way the story left off! I'm very much hoping there is a sequel in the future.

When it comes to dystopian novels, they've always been a hit-or-miss for me. Yet, I found myself completely enthralled by Amber Night's debut novel, "Within you".

"Within You" brings to life a beautiful love story set into a dystopian society, not too far in the future. Maya was an awesome female character, strong and driven. I could easily relate to her.
Also, I really liked the romance between her and Juan. It felt natural, unrushed and real. Although at times I felt like strangling Juan, he quickly made up for all of his wrongdoings.

The ending though. That's what really got me. It left me in utter disbelief. I flipped the page, hoping there was more. But no. It was blank. Amber Night definitely knows how to end a story without really ending it.

Finally, I'm glad I decided to give "Within You" a try when Amber offered me an ARC for an honest review. I loved this story and I cannot wait for more of Amber's writing!

This book is all around beautiful. The writing, the story, the plotting, the worn-yet-beloved setting that somehow manages to form the perfect backdrop for Maya and Juan's relationship. I found the prose achingly gorgeous and loved the slow-burn romance between the two MCs, especially because there's nothing better than a closed-off hero who only melts for the heroine. Gets me every time. Five stars for this lovely gem.

I was lucky enough to get an advanced reader copy of this book and I was ENTHRALLED.

Amber painted a vivid picture of a dystopian society — I messaged her and said “this is cyberpunk!” Because that’s totally what it felt like.

But cyberpunk with a kickass romance story.

Juan was hot, and tormented, and his and Maya’s romance was torturously slow in the best kind of way.

I gobbled up every page of this book and Amber’s beautiful prose. It was truly wonderful.

This is unlike I've ever read.
Set in the future in a dystopian Earth, Maya is from the entitled side of the woods (so to speak), wants more and decides to leave to go and look for it.
She moves and finds a job in a pub, and there she meets the intriguing Juan.
The secrets, Angst and Tension that comes with this story had me devouring it.
Amber's debut Novel is a page turner, such a good plot and great characters.
I'm exciting to read more of her work.

A fantastic read!

I haven’t read this author before and am so glad I picked up this read. Within You is a Dystopian Romance, and the romance element (hot and steamy and gripping) is brilliantly done. The dystopian element was a bit thin on the ground for my personal taste, and not a lot happened from that side of things. However, the world-building and characterisation were excellently done, and the writing superb. The ending felt abrupt, and the reader will definitely want to pick up book 2 in this series, a novella.

Here are some lines I loved … and there were so many! …

“The threat hung thick in the air, a palpable presence which soaked into the plush furniture like a fog and lingered, lingered. Even to this day, the sight of a Chesterfield sent shivers up Maya’s spine.”

And …

“She saw the sigh more than she heard it: the ripple of it as he breathed in, then out, tension flowing from his muscles like a current into the earth.”

And …

“The tears were a block of ice somewhere inside her, pushing at her throat,”

And …

“Past the ruins of a Japanese pagoda, more memory than structure now.”

… I could go on and on. Amber Night is most definitely an author to check out, and Within You gets a resounding four stars from me.

***

Unlike anything I've read before, within you was  Mysterious, intriguing and extremely clever.

Set in a near futuristic London this tells the story of a division in society. Those who live in the zone, and those in the ring.

Maya has left her protective bubble of the zone to see what life is like outside in the ring. She wants to meet the people and show those in the Zone that they are aren't all that different. Things are alot tougher for those in the ring and Its a huge wake up call for Maya who is used to the finer things in life.

Taking a job in the Hope and Anchor pub, she meets the quiet and enigmatic Juan.
Her boss.

Weary of each other to begin with, they slowly start to let their guards down creating a delicious sexual tension that simmers quietly between them.
But Juan still has secrets that could destroy everything they've built together and Maya is still running from the Zone. Can they find a way a way to be together as one or will it be easier for them to go back to the safety of how life was before they met?

The attention to detail was great. I got a real feel for the surroundings and a look into what the word could one day be like. And its a great insight into how society treats people differently just because they aren't in the same class.

Fast paced with plenty of secrets and tension it kept me on my toes. Throw in some hot steamy scenes and you've got a great debut novel!

Come push the limits and break the rules with Maya in Amber Night’s debut novel! This dystopian romance begins in the exclusive society of The Zone where questions are frowned upon and free thinking is forbidden. Unsettled by her reality, Maya risks everything to venture beyond the confines of her perfect life. What she finds both shocks and soothes her soul: poverty, community and one very captivating man.

‘There was something almost magical about their stillness, something delicate and tranquil. Like neither of them were making any effort to be anything other than who they were in those moments. Like neither of them were asking each other to be anything else, either.’

There’s so much to love about the road Maya and Juan travel to find each other. His resistance and her resilience makes their journey that much sweeter. There is tenderness, heart and so much heat you can’t help but fall in love right along with them. Such a captivating story that will keep you guessing right till the end!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Great job by Amber Night, on her debut dystopian romance. I was lucky enough to receive a ARC copy of this book, and it truly is a intriguing story.

Maya, the FMC, is one of the privileged and she knows it, she has been questioning the way of life in the inner Zone of London’s now dystopian lifestyle. They have all the modern technology and don’t know of the wants and needs that the outer areas have. Her unwillingness to accept things is just how they are, and not to question it. This leads her to sneaking to the outlying city, leaving her schooling and mother behind. She learns of little to no power, no modern technology, and a void of conveniences. With Maya not from this area she has the aid of a friend of a friend get her a job and place to live.

Juan, the MMC, runs the local pub and does not trust people easily. When Maya shows up he assumes that she is there to sell something instead of looking for a true job. Juan is, the muscle around the area, is a grunt worker doing what needs to be done to get by in this crazy world. However, after she works months at the pub, things change for them. Their tension has a slow-burn to love. But with all their secrets coming out to the wrong people it catches up with them.

Don’t want to give too much, but recommend you read this dystopian romance, there is a prequel available now and “Within You” releases on August 2nd.

"What does it take to love, when all is broken?"

Set in a futuristic London divided by wealth and technology, this charming debut was refreshing, romantic, and entertaining. I thoroughly enjoyed Maya and Juan's relationship. The world building brought excellent political intrigue to the story and enhanced Maya's development.
Maya's character is optimistic, curious, and compassionate which makes certain truths difficult for her to understand. Juan is realistic, private, and supportive to those he cares about.
I loved the antagonism between Juan and Maya following their meeting. Their slow burn romance was steamy and built on friendship and mutual respect. Trust was an obvious issue between them and it took a bit longer to acheive. I would have appreciated a bit more groveling from Juan following some of his choices.
The secondary characters were well developed. Rhina, Leroy, and Beth were a great bunch that I would love to spend time with. They all had unique personalities and contributed well to the overall story.
Reading the prequel, A Different Kind of Sweetness, was beneficial to having some background on a few less mentioned characters. It also gave further insight into the Zone beyond Maya's memories.
Overall, a strong romantic debut with memorable characters. I'm really looking forward to reading more from this author. Coming August 2nd!!

Within You by Amber Night @ambernightauthor

Thanks for the ARC

Within You by Amber Night tells the story of Maya and Juan in a dystopian world.
The novel is set in London, 2159. A society divided in two into Zone and Ring showing a dystopian world.

The novel is mysterious, intriguing and extremely clever in writing.

Maya has left the zone to experience life in the ring. She joins the Ring thinking their people are alike the Zone.

But the Ring is tougher to live than Zone. It gives a warning to Maya who is used to the finer things in life.

Maya takes a job in the Hope and Anchor pub. Maya is charmed by Juan, her boss there.

Each has a past and it is creating a hindrance in their bond.

Can Maya and Juan find a way to sustain their relationship or they have to recede to their previous condition?

Amber Night's debut novel Within You aptly highlights the problems prevailing in society about class difference. The novel gives us a feel of dystopian future.

My favourite lines:

“Sometimes people who come through connections, they also come with expectations.
To be treated differently to the rest of us. Better.”

It had nothing to do with the fact that the rich timbre of his
laugh trickled molasses down her spine the first time she heard it

The novel is fast paced and full of thrills. I recommend it to all.

Within you- a debut novel by Amber Night allows the reader to ponder that sometimes the grass is greener on the other side.
Set 138 years in the future- “Within you” centres around Maya- who from a young age has questioned everything in search for meaning. Maya’s curiosity leads her to escape the world of privilege within “The Zone” a protected area of London where life is markedly different to outside it. Leaving the zone is an eye opening experience that Maya fully embraces. There are moments of struggle, self doubt and heartbreak - but this roller coaster brings with it a fuller life, rich with meaning and connections.
Like minded creative souls will recognise a kindred spirit in Maya- her desires, thoughts, whimsy, and romantic heart are very relatable to those who constantly yearn to colour beyond the restricted lines of life. This is Maya’s story and as such the support characters remain quite mysterious - including her love interest- I did want to know more about the enigmatic Juan.
What is left unsaid in stories allows the imagination to run wild with possibilities - the ending in particular allows the reader to determine any imagined future.
A thoroughly refreshing and thought provoking read -5 stars.

well worth the read

Gosh I really loved this story! I’m not usually one for dystopian romance but this one was really well told. Night perfectly laid out the world the characters were living in as well as beautifully building up the characters. Night’s writing style is one that uses repetition to drive her point home. I liked the stylistic nuance of her writing.
I felt like Night did such an amazing job with the characters that I was reading about my friends. Maya and Juan start out as enemies of a sort when Maya comes to work in his bar. She’s clearly escaping from something but it’s not fully revealed until later on. Maya falls ill and Juan ends up taking care of her. At this point they begin to realize their feelings for each other. Juan still has a hard time giving in. But when he does…oh I love him!
Eventually Maya decides she wants to do what she set out to do—make a difference. She does just that with Juan by her side. Eventually things go sideways and Juan’s support of her never wavers!
An intriguing story about a woman trying to make a difference while trying to make a life at the same time.

I was extremely lucky to receive and ARC copy of Amber Night's debut novel, Within You. This story was unlike anything else I have read. Night is talented with words and makes the story come to life so well.

We start in the dystopian world well into the future. Maya, our heroine, comes from the privileged side of society. She wants to change the world and is willing to give up that privilege to do so. She throws herself into her new role while trying to create the change she knows needs to happen. I was immediately drawn into her character and wanted to root for her.

Juan is angsty and mysterious, you want to unpeel those layers and see what he's all about. He and Maya start off rocky, both a little wary of the other but curious. The heat between these two is definitely slow burn and well worth it. They have a beautiful love story set within the bigger story.

I absolutely loved this book, and will be keeping me eye out for more from Amber Night.

This book was a bit different from my normal gene and I am so glad I went outside the norm. This is a great story of looking for answers and finding something better instead.

This book as a soft dystopiac feel too it, meaning the world hasn’t completely gone to chaos. There is a clear class break in this world. The Zone is a domed in section of London that houses the upper class, the scientist and engineers of society. The Ring is everyone else & out there it is just about survival.

Maya comes from the Zone & question what she has been told all her life about how the citizens in the Zone are better & deserve the safety they have been given in their enclosure. She decides to find out for herself what is really out in the Ring.

Maya goes on a journey of discovery, both on what is happening in the Ring and about herself and what is truly important.

I was delighted to read an advanced copy of Within You! I picked this up and didn't put it down (metaphorically because I read it on my computer) until I finished it, which is saying a lot given every scientist is saying my generation has no attention span.

Ever-avid for dystopian futures and the stories that lie within, I was absolutely engulfed in the world created in Within You. I haven't read many romance novels but this book may change that.

If you are one of those people who like to twist their nose at romance novels, I'd strongly suggest you read this and then think again. Amber Night has managed to weave exciting worldbuilding with a love story that will ring some bells in anyone with a heart. It has something for everyone, which is one of the best types of books to have around for me.

I loved this book, it had me captivated from the beginning. It was the best blend of dystopian and romance for me.
Maya has managed to escape from her overbearing mother and the privileged 'Zone'. She is desperate to find out what the outside is like, and why its kept such a secret.
Juan lives in 'The Ring', the deprived outskirts of the Zone. Managing a pub and surviving as best he can, he keeps his head down and doesn't open up to people.
Maya was really likeable character, she was curious, but cautious. Knowing that she had to hide where she has come from but also knowing that he didn't quite fit in. I think she was really brave, throwing herself into her new life and she wasn't afraid to call Juan out either.
I really enjoyed the build up in their relationship, they had ups and downs but were willing to fight for each other too. I loved their dialogue.
The ending was not completely unexpected, but I was still holding my breath for them right up to the end.

I loved this book! Within You is a dystopian romance, a little different than my normal reads, but it was engaging and I couldn’t put it down.

I loved the world building. Set in futuristic dystopian London, the author wrote a completely realistic (and realized) world. I loved the main characters and the slow burn of the romance. The side characters were great too.

What I really thought was well done was the writing itself. Beautiful prose gave way to clear descriptions and imagery. I’m so glad I tried something new!

I received and ARC from the author and the opinions expressed are entirely my own!

I really enjoyed this read. Amber has such a descriptive writing style, I could picture each and every detail as it was happening and feel everything that Maya was feeling; it pretty much sucked me in from the beginning!

Maya and Juan’s love story is unique within the setting of a future /dystopian world, but their feelings and some of the obstacles that come up in their relationship can be easily placed in another world.
Their relationship is a slow, sexy, angst filled, burn 🔥 and full of fireworks at the same time. They make you want to root for them.

Thanks @ambernightauthor for giving me the opportunity to read this amazing story!

I loved it!! Set in an interesting dystopian time, a sheltered girl leaves the "safe" inner city to see how people really live on the outside. And out there, she is surprised by what she finds, but also she finds love. Maya is a very intelligent woman, who is not fooled by the government propaganda, and I found her very relatable. Juan is a man who has lived a hard life, and still, barely, manages to let Maya in, and let her love him, against his "better judgement". It's sweet, dark, heart wrenching, and beautiful. Again, I loved it.

I was immediately sucked into Within You! Maya is dissatisfied with the life she is living in the Zone, so she sneaks out to the Ring. As per typical dystopian books, things are not what they seem and Maya is rudely awakened by the differences in the Zone and Ring. Even though I say that there are typical tropes this book was not typical. It was imaginative, well written and it draws you in in the most delicious way. I love that this was a slow burn, it really was a journey of enlightenment for Maya. Juan was a hard nut to crack but oh man when he did!

I’m not sure where to start…but I LOVED this book. It actually made me cry at one point, which is impossible. In my defense, I was exhausted.

Anyway, I really enjoyed the characters. The build up of Maya and Juan’s relationship was very genuine and moving. Sure, sometimes I wanted to knock Juan out, but we eventually learn so much more about him. Rina, Beth, and Leroy were all really great characters. I also enjoyed the dystopian type plot. It’s certainly a warning to things we as a global society are doing wrong, and things we should prioritize more.

I’ve already ordered the next book, although I’m sad it’s so short. I could read about this couple for much longer. Still, I look forward to reading on.

Congratulations on your debut novel Amber! 💜

This was a little different to what I usually read, given that it’s a dystopian book, but really enjoyed it!
It’s set in a futuristic London where society is divided in two, there’s those who live in The Zone and those in The Ring. Maya and her curious mind leave The Zone in search of the truth. What she finds is poverty, community and one very captivating man, Juan.
I really enjoyed the chemistry between Maya and Juan. The steady build up and slow burn just added to their appeal!
The writing style was captivating. It allowed everything to play out like a movie in your head. I would recommend reading the prequel, A Different Kind of Sweetness. It really helps to set the scene and get a little glimpse of Maya and Juan prior to them meeting.

Overall, a very good book that I really enjoyed!

I look forward to Amber’s future releases!

What a beautifully written book. The words of this author took me on a journey and allowed my imagination to take flight as I spent time in a world that could easily be our future. The main characters were realistic, having pasts and issues to overcome before finding their Happily for Now. I would say that they live happily ever after in my head because in the end, that is what you feel happens and that ending is perfect for the characters. I was glued to the pages, loving all the twists and turns. Has it left me wanting to know more? Yes, but then don't all good books? We never want to let them go. I recommend you read this one and take a look for yourself.
