What a thrill of a read! Tension ratchets up from start to finish and turned my 'I'll just read for ten minutes" into a read-to-the-end marathon.

Loved the Chicago setting -- made the endless pursuit scenes all the edgier as most of them involved the public transit system. I'll never think of commuter trains in the same way again! Yikes!

And the give and take between Megan and Jack was so much fun. Again, edgy, but sometimes sweet and definitely toe-curling a time or two. Great secondary characters helped carry the show and I have hopes of one getting her own story in the future.

Solid writing and a tight plot with enough sharp turns to leave a reader breathless made me one very happy reader. :-)

Exposing a Killer

This book was to much like the running scenes in action movies, only in this book it was a steady and continuous running theme. Not good except the last couple of pages.

My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Exposing a Killer. Laurie is a fairly new author with LIS but she is definitely a great addition. This story is well-written, action-packed, and full of faith. I know you will agree with me and enjoy her latest book.

Private Investigator Megan O'Clare was investigating a woman with a serious back injury or so she told the insurance company but here she was dancing with a lover. As she videoed the dance she saw then quarrel and the man kills her. Someone grabbed her shoulder and she fell out of the tree. The man told her to run and then the killer began to shoot at them. How had her rival ended up by her side?

Private Investigator Jack Luskie thought his chances with the gunman might be better than with Megan, Her boss had told Jack about the Cahill case. He was investigating the woman for an embezzling case. He didn't need to end up smashed against a telephone pole but would with the way Megan was driving. When they heard sirens Megan wanted to go back. That was unacceptable right now.

A horrific journey that had become personal. Can the two of them forget their rivalry and work together long enough to survive? God has a plan for these two, a good plan for hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a plan for peace and not for destruction even in this time of chaos.

The good news is Jack Luskie has helped his fellow PI, Megan O'Clare, find her missing car. The bad news is someone is driving it in their direction.

I will admit that the back cover gave me expectations that the story did not match. It sounded like it was about a pair of rival Private Investigators trying to solve the same case. Instead, it was the more typical format of the lead characters, who at the beginning didn't completely trust each other, running for their lives as they try to figure out who the bad guys are.

Does that mean I did not enjoy this story? NOT ON YOUR LIFE! If you want a thrilling romantic suspense, this succeeds. The characters are a pair you care about, both of which are dealing with not meeting the expectations of their families.

The setting succeeds in giving a unique feel. A lot of these Love Inspired stories take place in small towns or vast wilderness. This takes place in Chicago, with the El being the main form of transportation for our heroes (helpful when the bad guys have the heroine's car).

I highly recommend this story.

This story is set in Chicago which is a little different than most LI and LIS books I've read. None the less, it had me following along through the backstreets, subways, and train stations as our main characters spend quite a lot of time running. Which makes sense if you have no car and are being chased by bad guys who want to kill you. But all that running, plus stair climbing, had my knees aching.

For those who love stories set in big cities you will enjoy this book. And, though I prefer a smaller town setting, I will likely read more books from this new-to-me author as it does me good to get out of my comfort zone and explore new things. But don't hold your breathe, I will not be moving to a big city! (Famous last words!)

Great book. Megan and Jack were a cute couple, they really cared about each other and were protective of each other. I loved how Ms. Eakes worked handicapped characters, who were strong and believable, into the story. I learned about the city of Chicago, about the neighborhoods and the transit system. That was interesting. The suspense was palpable. I will certainly be reading more by this author.

This is the first book I have read by this author, but it probably won’t be my last! This story was fast paced and full of action and suspense! I liked the characters. Megan O’Clare is a PI on a routine stakeout for a worker comp case. Jack Luskie is also a PI working an embezzlement case. They just happen to be after the same person. The tables are turned on them and together they wind up running for their lives throughout the streets of Chicago.

This short paperback had tons of action, almost too much to make it believable. Megan is a P.I. who is watching a woman suspected of embezzlement. Jack comes to make sure she’s safe. That’s good because there’s a murder and two people try umpteen times to kill/injure Megan and Jack. It’s never explained how they seem to find them wherever they are. There’s a lovely romance going on which would have been better if it had enfolded in entirety. Definitely an okay story.

A good selection for a mystery read. The suspense is great yet not so much gore. There is a love story involved but more of calm in that area. I enjoy all kinds but this is a nice Saturday read. These are put out by Harlequin for those of us who prefer a mystery that is pleasant yet a good who done it.

This book was good, but then it became boring. I liked that it mentioned cities and towns that I know and have been too.

Good start...

Good start. Picked up speed in the middle, but the ending felt rushed. Other than that, this a good quick read.

Great easy read. Great female character making her own choices even with men resisting. But it is ultimately a man she is thrown with that understands her. Loved it
