Teaches kindness to all people and things. A hilarious, rhyming, read loud book that's perfect for the first or any day of school. The classroom chairs have had enough! You know, sitting’s not the only thingThat happens in our seats.Sometimes, a kid sits pretzel-style,And we have to smell their feet!
Buy this book for a good laugh, nighttime snuggle, or your favorite teacher.**Warning** This book contains the word 'fart' in it.
I am a sucker for good poetry, and as I previewed this book I had high hopes. But my beef, as I have expressed in other reviews, is that so many people think that poetry is rhyming words at the end of lines! What about meter? The absence of meter makes the lines very hard to read. Remember, the meter used by Shakespeare and so many others - is designed to mimic how humans breathe. Poetry is literary art fitted to the human architecture - and then made artistic so it feels natural.
And furthermore, if you are going to rely on rhyme as your sole building block for your poetry (which this is not) - then at least have two rhymes per four lines! In this book we have four line stanzas, but only two words rhyme.
I did like the art (hey, the author rhymed the word "fart" with "art" - quite a bold move.
And the book does, surprisingly, give you a perspective of what it is like to be a chair - having to smell the stinky feet of the kids, and yes, even to be farted upon. Wooden chairs are even used to enhance the sound level and tonal quality of farts, so it's not all fun and games for chairs, and us humans should be mindful of that.
So, 2 stars for the poetry, 4 stars for providing a new viewpoint - averages out to 3 stars.
I rated this book 5 stars because this is such a funny book but also has an important message. This i fun and engaging book teaches students to be respectful about furniture and materials in the classroom. It's a good book to read during the first few weeks of school to set expectations and positive behaviors. This book would be used as a read aloud.
This book revolves around how chairs feel. They were treated in many ways and went on strike. They were missing for a day until the kids apologized for the bad treatment (JONES, J. (2021). Chairs on strike: A funny, rhyming, read aloud kid’s book for preschool, kindergarten, 1st gr.. RANDOM SOURCE).
This book is suitable for kindergarten to the third grade level. The pictures will definitely catch the children's attention. It is easy to follow along.
I chose this book because it is funny and entertaining. It provides a laugh. At the same time, it teaches respect. The way you treat others will certainly make it known if they want to deal with you.
What on earth would we do if chairs went on strike? How would we function? This brilliant story is illustrated so well! It shares the importance of being respectful of property and not taking it for granted. The author did an excellent job with rhyming in the perfect meter. This story is adorable and impactful for all ages! Don’t delay and buy it today!
Intended Audience This book is intended for children who are 3 and up. Key Themes This book talks about what it feels like to be a chair and how the kid at school sits down without a care in the chair. This book also talks about how the chairs talk to each other how badly they are treated how they are left in places they don't like and how at lunch the kids use the chairs as if they are their lunch trays and they are tired of being treated unfairly. Why I chose this book for my library. I chose this book for my library because it touches on the importance of why we have chairs, and it also talks about how the chairs need a break and should be treated equally as well. I would read this to my future students because it touches on the importance of chairs, and we never knew we needed something until it was gone.
This is a fun picture book with rhyming lines on the pages, describing what inappropriate things young students might do to chairs in the classroom. The chairs go on strike, disappearing from the classroom for a bit, to remind the students what they're taking for granted, and then they reappear when the students apologize and promise to do better. It's a great read-aloud for a young group of students to set expectations about furniture use in the classroom, but with humor not shame. The illustrations are bright and colorful, and the chairs are real characters, although no one in the book has a distinctive character.
This book is a great teaching lesson about treating others and our things with respect because we do not want to do any harm to our things and to the people we care about. I think this books helps teach that lesson but in a funny way. This book will be used in my classroom as well in the classroom library for my students to read on my own.
The chairs at school are tired of the way they have been treated - so they go on strike! This book will teach small children to feel empathy by looking at a situation from another point of view. By seeing things from the perspective of the chairs everyone realizes they can be more thoughtful. Fun book with an important lesson!
Colorful and creative! Brings life to non-living chairs to show children how to respect and take care of property. Love the humor as well. Cute read for the beginning of school to set classroom expectations.
Chairs on Strike by Jennifer Jones – This is on kindle unlimited. I could see this being really cute in a classroom setting if a teacher wants to remind kids not to take things for granted. Happy Reading!
This book teaches students how to sit in their seat. I like the colorful illustrations on the chairs. One thing I do not like in this book is how repetetive it is. Even though it is talking about the chairs does not mean they cannot make it more interesting for the readers to read.

A good way to teach kiddos to take a stand (so to speak)! The rhyming wasn’t the most creative, but kids don’t care about that most of the time. The illustrations are adorable!
This book is a cute book about chairs going on strike because of students treating them badly. It shows students how not to treat their chairs, but it would make students giggle by mentioning falling over and farts.
Chairs on Strike is a good book suitable for elementary aged children. It is attention-grabbing, funny, and puts the perspective into the minds of the chairs. It uses a variety of vocabulary and displays a variety of illustrations.
This was a really a good read. Loved the illustrations and the storyline. This is a good one to teach children how to take care of their things and how to apologize if you hurt someone. A good book for young readers.
Chairs on Strike is a funny story about chairs that refuse to be sat on until people learn to treat them better. I liked how it teaches respect and responsibility in a fun and creative way.
