Once upon a time, Amy's future seemed golden. Training to be a world-class ice dancer with her partner Austin, she dreamed of Olympic glory and the day when Austin would see her as something more than just the little girl he skated with.
Then, in the blink of an eye, her whole life changed. Four years later, she'd just another face in the crowd at her university journalism program and everyone calls her Mia. Only her closest friends and family know anything about her past of the dreams she used to have.
And that's what she thought she wanted, until another twist of fate throws her temporarily back into Austin's world. Can she keep the truth about who she is hidden from the one person who used to know her better than anyone?
If you're looking for sweet and steamy romance, you've come to the right place! I started reading romance novels in my early teens and writing them soon afterwards; growing up in small towns in western Canada, there wasn't much else to do! Luckily, those early stories have never seen the light of day.
Now, I live in the UK with my husband and daughter and spend my free time diving into magical or just romantic settings where true love (almost) always wins.
The blurb of this book definitely caught my attention. I love a little intrigue with my stories.
Amelia was a figure skater who is now a college student. She is starting over new looks, new name, and praying she isn't recognized. Oh, surprise, she gets a feature article on her old skating partner. As she does the interview and spends time with Austin, she gets many flashbacks, but one is very emotional. I wonder why she doesn't ice skate anymore? That answer comes eventually, and wow, does it bring out the emotions. This book is full of unexpected history. Austin does figure out who she is, and I wonder how this story will end.
I'm not disappointed, although this story has a lot of emotions involved in it. It also had heart, intriguing plot twists, and unexpected revelations. I love the way the author provided the reader's history and emotional reading with her characters. This story felt like it could have been a re-telling of real life. Her personality came alive in the process as you read and get to know Amelia. Although the story was focused on Amelia, it did jump back and forth to Austin's perspective. This story is a much about the past as it is the present. The author did a fantastic job of incorporating both current and previous drama into the account.
I almost felt like there was a ton of life lessons in this story. The way the characters adapted to situations out of their control and handled past revelations sent us readers on emotional tailspins. I love how the book ended with some closure, at least to the past for this story. It seems that the next book will be focused on the future. I'm excited to read more about these characters and see what comes of their attraction.
This book made me feel so many things! Amy (or is it Mia?) and Austin have been through a lot, both together and apart. The slow unravelling of the mystery of exactly what happened between them and why was perfectly paced, enough to keep me guessing and enough to keep me going all at the same time. The flashback scenes were integrated perfectly and there were a few that were really emotional. I liked that the ending got the characters to a place of equilibrium but wasn't a quick happy fix. Overall this was a great, absorbing read.
Mia's mom is intense, but so is Austin's, but I hate his mom. Her mom just wanted to protect her but just ended up hurting her💔 I wonder what's going to happen with Grace and Austin bc I feel like it's not going to be a relationship like Austin wants, and Grace and him will both be hurt. I really hope Mia and him can get to a point where they are together, maybe even dancing together where people will see.... but if they only end up together I'll be happy too😅🥺
I used to be a figure skater, but didn’t ice dance too much. I found this book extremely interesting and you could tell the author did her research. The story line caught me from beginning to end. I really enjoyed it and the second one!
Omg I absolutely loved this book. The chemistry and story behind Austin and Amy/Mia (still don’t know what to call her) was so good and the build up on what really happens four years ago was really good with the small flashbacks made it even better. Usually I don’t like the miscommunication trope but in this case it’s fine because they both were manipulated by their mothers. And btw both of their mothers can go fuck themself I really I hate both of them. Can’t wait to see what happens in part two
I loved this book!! I was shouting at my phone at times just hoping they would sort it out! I love figure skating so imagine the moves and then the heart warming story was fantastic! Can’t wait to read the next one ❤️

Loved this, total warm/fuzzies. Writing perhaps not quite as elegant as other styles but felt like I knew what the main characters were thinking and why. I mean, have to suspend some disbelief to buy in to elements of the story but loved both main characters.
A lovely read! The underlying story is heart warming! I was shouting at the screen at points! Can’t wait to read the next one! Another fantastic book by Melody!
Talk about miscommunication! All the things that could of been cleared up by a simple conversation. When I first started reading I was pulled in almost immediately. I had to know what happened between the main characters. It was a little upsetting the male lead didn't recognize her from the beginning but he figured it out soon enough. This is a great book, definitely recommend.
My only problem is the end of the first feels a bit rushed and I think making one longer book would have been more satisfying, but either way I loved them
Tbh if there’s ice I’m assuming there’s smut, and boy did I assume wrong. Kinda fun plot, I enjoyed reading it enough to also read the sequel. They were both super short could have been one book. Didn’t hate any of the MCs so I’ll give it a solid 3 stars I guess based on plot alone.
Gotta say, this really grabbed my full attention. Been a long time since a book interested me this much. Really well written, very few, if any, grammar mistakes, details are nice and the characters are strong.
The guy CRYS!!! Yes! Has actual man tears!!! LOVE THIS!
This ends with a Cliffhanger and I’ll be starting the second book immediately.
Steam: 0/5* so far kept clean, and I usually prefer a touch of spice but the book is so captivating that I actually don’t care. Cliffhanger: YES HEA: better be!!!
This was a cute story but I found it lacked depth. It was cute, a little simple and obvious in its plot points but the characters were likeable and decently developed. A nice read for someone looking for a PG-romance, especially if you enjoy figure skating as the author did do their research on figure skating/ice dance well.
I have always enjoyed Melody Tyden’s books and this one didn’t disappoint! Every book is different and well researched. I know nothing about ice skating but I am interested in learning more. An amazing author can put you right in there with the characters in their moment and feeling their emotions. Please read all her books!!
This book is about how assumptions and miscommunications that cause rifts between friends/lovers. The book occasionally goes back a few years to show thoughts and experiences the characters have that really shows how far their growth has come. Loved this adorable young love book and can’t wait to read more on the story in the next book.
I've been wanting to read this book and it definitely didn't disappoint. Major miscommunication isn't really my reading preference, but it worked well for this book.
This would’ve been 3 stars if not for the last like 20 pages where the author basically just wasted my time and decided that she should create another book and end this one on a kinda cliffhanger but mostly just like and unfinished book. Like it’s as if she ended the book in the middle of like a kind of important scene but not that important it’s literally just feels like it’s the middle of the book and she was like wait lemme split this shit. Umm okay for the rest of the book, I think I had written off the hero after he had said this when he saw her
“Blue eyes looked back at me from behind thick-rimmed purple glasses, long, dark hair framing and partially concealing her face. She was bundled up in so many layers, she wouldn't have been out of place on an Arctic expedition. There was nothing particularly appealing about her appearance.”
No because I simply never will believe that she find her to be like this beautiful amazing girl like this is what u said when u first saw her… i’ve seen this a lot in romance books, where the heroes will see the heroine for the first time and go like “oh well that’s not what I usually go for” or “she’s average looking” or like “she’s all right”. But then when they get with the girl or are pursuing the girl they’re like “oh my God she’s the most beautiful girl in the world like she’s stunning, she’s so fine she’s so hot” like I simply do not believe you. Ofc our main character Austin hits us with that after he like realizes who she is and is like pursuing her.
“And today, her hair was pulled back and she had removed her glasses. She looked more like my Amy. She was a bit taller and her chest was a bit bigger, I couldn't help noticing. But other than that, she was the same girl I'd always found so appealing. But how much had she changed on the inside? That was what I really needed to find out.”
HOW DO YOU FIND A GIRL APPEALING NOW, BUT WHEN U SAW HER U SAID THE LITERAL OPPOSITE LIKE???? And again I’ve seen this like many times in books and I think this is the first time I’ve commented it cuz I try to ignore it, but it feels so icky to me when guys rlly only start finding the girl attractive after she like proves herself or like after a revelation like huh. It just doesn’t make sense to me that she gonna see her and be like oh she’s not very appealing and then be like oh I’ve always found her feeling. How the fuck does that work?
Next issue is that every character besides them and maybe the moms are props like both of their friends are props. They barely ever rlly exist mostly because this book is short for no reason and every time they show up, they have no problems or comments of their own, and every conversation is simply just focused on the relationship. Like I couldn’t even distinguish the friends on both sides they’re just these faceless characters who will say “oh you like him”like what’s the point just make them friendless at this point and have them have an internal dialogue like damn. At least have the friends like doing something else like anything is all I’m saying. Like it just struck me when after probably like 25 percent of the book had last without these friends they just appeared again to discuss something to deal with Austin.
Last other issue is that this book basically thrives on miscommunication like that’s the entire conflict which I always find dumb tbh.
I will say this is a unique book in that I’ve never read a book about ice dancing before I thought it was the same things as ice skating. It’s not, so learn something new, but it was just not worth whatever the fuck I had to sit through. Also just to like say it, this book has no smut or anything like they are never together at any point and even in flashbacks it’s like a one off.
★★★★★ Rating: 5/5 I loved this book so much, oh my god 😭
The covers? Gorgeous. The story? Emotional devastation in the best way possible. I’m genuinely unwell 😭 (I’m usually not a fan of covers with people, but this is only the second time I’ve truly loved one. It fits the story so perfectly.)
The whole “he thought she knew I she thought he knew” miscommunication?? I was screaming. She really thought he didn’t even care anymore 😭 and then the necklace scene. Oh my heart 💔
He definitely would’ve put two and two together eventually, but thank GOD it slipped into his hand when it did. The flashbacks were perfection—they made everything hit so much harder. I was literally crushed and anxious the entire time, just waiting to see what would happen next.
I didn’t even mind that it was a duet. It worked.

Some Favorite Quotes:
“Austin had a new rink now, a new coach, a new partner. A whole new life. Nobody else there would know me. And it wasn’t like he’d been thinking of me every day for the past four years, not like I’d been thinking of him.” 😭😭😭
And then when he said:
“I’m heading out too. Do you need a ride?”
Like excuse me?? The ride??? If he had just given her that ride four years ago, everything would’ve been different. That one moment started a whole chain of events that changed both their lives. And now he’s offering her a ride again like it’s nothing? Tears. Stung. My. Eyes.
And then when she said, “It’s Mia,” and he said,
“You’re still my Amy.”
MY. AMY. 😭 Wrap it up. I’m done. They weren’t just connected emotionally—they were tied together by that sport. Ugh 💔

“It’s okay,” he assured me, clearly reading the reaction in my face. “I wanted the chance to talk to you. And Amy, there’s still one more thing I need to say.”
And then he threw the bomb… “I’m so sorry I didn’t give you a ride that day.”

I enjoyed Amy and Austin´s story, i am a gonner for second chance. However, if the liked each other that much when they were young, i don´t understand how it took Austin so long to recognise her. I know they said she looked diifferent but they had been friends so long i thought he would recognize her sonner.
Even then, i enjoyed seeing reconnect although there was quite the bit of miscommunication and their moms where both super mean plotting so they couldn´t see each other after Amy´s accident, and stiil thinking they were doing things right, like... That´s one of the things i´m talking about when i say there was clearly a lot of miscommunication, like the way they only talk about their feelings about the accident and their kiss almost at the end, annoyed me a bunch.
Also, the way that Austin´s partner Grace started being super obvious about to wanting something with him as soon as Amy appeared and they started talking more and trying to solve their issues annoyed me, but yea we saw she has feelings for him.
The ending was really weird, in my opinion, i know it´s a duology but still it could have been bettrer wraped, and the story could continue in another book anyways. I will read the other book because i wanna know how the story ends, but a feel like there was no need for two books, i don´t kn know what will happen in the second one, but to me it could have been just on slightly longer book, and we could see the story in one go.
Still enjoyed my time reading, and that is what this type of book is for.
I really leaned into the figure skating trope this winter season, and this book definitely helped me do that! I'll be going through the pros and cons of this book, with no major spoilers ahead. P.S. Thank you Melody Tyden for sending me a copy of this book as well as the sequel in exchange for an honest review! Pros of It Figures by Melody Tyden:
Second Chance
I'm a sucker for a second chance romance, and this book delivered that trope in the best way. The main pair, Austin and Amelia knew each other years ago and reconnected in the most unexpected of circumstances. The pair doesn't just rekindle everything they once had, but rather they take their time and as a reader you can see the progression of how they have to basically get to know each other all over again; they get their second chance! The first book ended on a promising note, but still leaves a lot up to the imagination, so I think by the end of the second book readers will see what really happens.
Figure Skating
I guess I'm a sucker for a lot of tropes and subjects because this is yet again another thing I like; figure skating. Maybe because I grew up watching Tessa and Scott, (if you aren't familiar with them, they're a Canadian ice dance team and you should definitely watch their Moulin Rouge program if you haven't already...) but romance and figure skating for me just goes hand in hand without a doubt.
It was such a fun ice skating story. The characters were really interesting and the set up + how it all flowed worked perfectly!
I love it when books start giving out details and the backstory little by little without making it feel empty without it or making it not curious enough. The dual pov definitely added to it to.
it really kept me going wanting to know what happened 4 years ago.
Amy/Mia was such cool, interesting protagonist, usually the “new identity” thing and past person doesn’t recognise me thing doesn’t work out well or feel like a clark kent type of thing but i think it worked out well here.
Yes, Austin definitely need glasses but it’s understandable the glasses and hair and delusion helped him not recognise her (this is not spoilers)
The angst was also pretty good my dudes, not cry worth or long enough to feel heart attack pain but good enough.
In terms of bad, there isn’t much to complain, honestly there’s barely anything, I do think this could just ended as one book instead of a duology but it was entertaining so I’ll read the next one aswell.
Amelia is a figure skater who is now looking to start over. She's got a new look, a new nickname, and a new career in the works. As part of a college course, Mia has to do an interview with an athlete. Not surprising to anyone when she ends up having to interview her old skating partner, Austin. She's hoping that he won't recognize her after four years, but it a little hurt and disappointed when he doesn't.
Austin is under a lot of pressure with his professional skating career, gearing up to hopefully make it to the Olympics. Yet he can't help but being drawn to the cute journalist. So he flirts and doesn't understand why Mia is so familiar to him. Mis reminds him so much of his old partner, Amy. All these memories surface for the both of them the more that they interact, some more painful than others. Then we get the revelation for Austin about who Mia really is and all of the pieces click into place for him.
There was some miscommunication between the two of them that was super frustrating. I know that it's not all on the two of them for the communication breakdown, but it's still frustrating nonetheless. We find out the truth about why Amelia stopped skating and what happened after the accident. There's a lot of drama there, but now that everything is out in the open (or so we think), the two plan to work together as professionals before they can think about venturing into the romance they wish they had four years ago.
I enjoyed reading this book but the whole plot is driven by the miscommunication trope which meant it was very frustrating to read. Then the characters act like their whole livelihoods were stolen from them because they didn’t compete for 4 years together. When she’s literally only 19 and he’s 22?!?! And right when the miscommunication starts to be resolved, the book ends. I definitely felt like there was no need for this to be a 2 book series. But I love ice skating so I guess this book gets a pass
