Dead End

This book is no longer available.

What do you do when everything you thought was made for dreams and fantasy became your reality?

Halloween, the night when dead things wake from their slumber. The one time of year when you can dress up and be anyone or anything you want to be. For me, it was the day those costumes became real.

Raising the dead... along with some witches, vampires, and a werewolf or two, was just another boring day in Midnight Hollow. But being stuck in this nightmare with four of my smoking hot arch enemies and my best friend Maddie, will force us to work together when nothing else makes sense...

Who will live and who will die? Who will rise again? My name is October, and this is my story.

This is a dark reverse harem bully book. 18+ due to mature themes and graphic content.

All I want is a good book. A decent book. A book that will make me feel something, anything. Well- anything but what this book made me feel. :/
It started off really incredibly strong and I liked the first few sentences, heck, I might even have loved the first chapter, but it went downhill after that, fast

The pace was off the plot was confusing and everything in between left me feeling weird. Have you ever opened a book and just felt an intense foreboding flush through your whole body, your heart is racing a mile a minute and your body's clenched tighter than a virgin ass? That's what I felt the moment I started reading this book, and for no good reason.

Until I stumbled across a little trope that sends my molars grinding themselves into dust. And this one is actually my fault. I impulsively just got the book and started reading it. I have been in this dire need for a good RH for months and then I saw the amazing cover and hook-line-and-sinker I was all over this like white on rice.

Unfortunately the book fell flatter than my breakfast pancakes, like seriously? IMO so much happened in the first few chapters that I was left scratching my head multiple times.

Oh? That nauseating trope I mentioned? Enemies-to-lovers. NO, I don't want to hear it, I hate it. Well in this case it's friends-to-enemies-to-lovers?? Or wait - it was friends-to-bedbuddies-to-enemies-to-lovers?? I don't plan on sticking around long enough to find out.

It honestly felt messy, the emotions felt surface level and any anger or any sustenance for that bully romance thing to actually happen just wasn't there. I was-and as i write this still am- completely disappointed in the book. There is no way I can read any further. DNF'ing this book feels like torture because I wanted it to be good so bad.

I was all for this one. The blurb sounded unique and the cover was unique and spooky. Within the first couple of chapters it felt like I’d picked up the wrong inside. For the majority of the book I was 2 stars, thinking it was a Disney cliche. After the halfway point it got a little better but still felt younger than what I expected.

I liked that there was a bestie and no betrayal. The guys were pretty weak. It felt like Jason was the leader and the face of the four, with the rest following. Technically I didn’t like any of the guys, as my favourite was Damon and Mad’s potential guys.

Their excuse felt questionable. In the beginning the bullying felt like it was done for shallow reasoning, cheerleader turned goth and then the maybe the more serious possible cheating kisses. When the confession came that it was because they wanted her to rise out of her depression, it didn’t feel right. You don’t kick someone when they’re down. The flashback save felt pointless given they were the ones that started it.

I liked Jessica. I didn’t like how the town was dangerous and yet October was still walking around by herself and fulfilling the damsel in distress role. Roger was a curiosity. Light bully, Sabrina the teenage witch in Halloween town. It was okay but not what I expected.

I loved this book so much, it was such a fun and interesting read. For me personally it felt like the author blurred together a bunch minor details from quite a few Halloween/witchy movies into a RH masterpiece! After a deadly accident the heroine has the choice wether to help her friends or leave to go and get help. What happens next lands them in a whole other dimension. The setting at times made the book super creepy which came as a pleasant surprise. Clowns don’t scare me that much but I sure as hell don’t want any chasing me in the dark! 💀🤡 With the help of her two awesome and whacky aunts the heroine, her BFF and her men will have to fight the monsters in the dark and decide if returning to the mortal realm is for them. After losing her parents the heroine has been in dark place for a year. She struggles quite a bit and having her ex besties and lovers along for the ride in this new world tests her in every way. There were also some shockingly HOT scenes in the book and with 4 men completely devoted to the heroine, so no OW drama, MM or cheating involved. It’s so crazy because the book has so many little themes built in that just worked flawlessly in this Halloween Horrortown they find themselves in. The book opens with the heroine and her men being enemies. They are her bullies now and I couldn’t help but question wtf happened as they were all besties at one point and even developing feelings beyond friends for one another at the time. I was shocked when we learned the reasoning and honestly I loved how the author handled this because I’m so tired of bullying in my sexy reads to be either glossed over or just forgiven right off the bat. The heroine has the coolest but also creepiest familiar ever and the scene when the first meet was pretty hilarious. I mean the tears, I can’t imagine 😂🤣 It was just a really wonderful book overall and definitely something I’ll be reading again in the future and would highly recommend.

MC's only personality trait is "I'm not like other girls" and is in love with four guys who thought bullying her for a year was a good way to help her get over the death of her parents. Concept is blatantly "Disney's Halloweentown but make it sexy". Despite all this I gave it an honest shot, but was skipping pages by the end I was so bored.

Nod to horror

There were things I liked and things I didn't in this book. I was very on on the fence for almost the first half of the book. It picked up for me a little after the half, but all in all, it ended up being a very meh read for me. One problem I had was that the four men in this book were thrown at us all at once and it was almost the end before I got Jason and Freddy straight in my head.

Well this had a lot of good going for it. I loved the world and the creatures. Like I'm scared of spiders but having one as a familiar hasn't be done before. We had clowns, puppets and everything in between. The story line was good and the settings were well thought out. I didn't feel the romance. Never really got it but it didn't take away from the story. This would make a great tv series.

Couldn't Put It Down!

This book is a Standalone with the potential of continuation. The book ends with everything tied up and a HEA. BUT the very end of the epilogue leaves it open for more later. This was my first read by either author, so I don’t know if this is their typical style or not, but I know some people might mind and get upset by it. I don’t think it’s a big deal, but if you want to end the book on a completely ‘wrapped up’ ending, don’t read the end of the epilogue that starts in italics. Below is my review for the book, no spoilers ahead, so read without worry!

This book was awesome! If you love Halloween Town, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Charmed, you’re going to LOVE this. Definitely pulls from each of these shows, which was a little weird at first because I kept feeling that I was in those shows, but it’s actually pretty awesome once you get further in the book. It’s everything I’ve ever wanted after watching any witch-y show and wishing it was book!  It’s not gore-y at all, and everything is centered around creatures that go bump in the night and everything spooky. There are familiars in this book, and the coolest thing is, that they’re not just for witches! Any creature that has immense power gets one, and not your typical cat or owl either; reptiles, demons, arachnids and even siblings (though that’s a bond thing more than a familiar). It’s just so cool to read something that’s not the ‘normal’ in a pnr book. The book is pretty funny and I laughed a lot during my reading, which was much needed!

There’s a bully/enemies thing between the guys and the fmc, and I honestly didn’t understand it for the first half of the book, but it does get explained later in the book and makes so much more sense. And it’s not hardcore bullying either, I wouldn’t even consider it mild bullying. The guys in this book are great too. Obviously they aren’t perfect to start with, but even in the beginning you can see the sweet sides to them and how their friendship dynamic works. There’s no competition between them which is great, and they all act like brothers, two of them are twins, but they all treat each other as if they were blood siblings, that being said, there’s no mm in this book (in case anyone wanted to know).

The whole dynamic between the fmc, her best friend, and the guys is one of the best dynamics I’ve read in a long time. There’s no jealously between the girls, her best friend doesn’t have a thing for any of the fmc’s guys nor the guys to the best friend. October and Maddie are more like sisters than just best friends, and I love that they don’t compare themselves to each other. They stick together and help each other out, but aren’t constantly around each other. In fact, none of the characters are always together, which is SO refreshing! In so many books the fmc only interacts with her guys and/or best friend and there’s hardly none (or very little) dialog with other side characters. Or the best friend is only there when convenient for the fmc. The story really centers around all of them and I love it.

Only thing I wish was different, was how October handles her power (or perhaps how the authors portrayed her lack of power?). There are very few times that we read about her trying to handle her power and learn to use it. Seems like it was brushed over, and then we the reader, are lead to believe that she had been doing all this research and practice outside of what we’re actually reading about. Maybe that’s because she’s struggling with learning how to use the power and the authors figured it wasn’t necessary to read about failed attempts. October was great, but she wasn’t a powerhouse to start and I’m glad she didn’t magically turn into one just to fit the moment better. It was actually really nice to see her get her closure, and in a way that helped her in her lack of ability at the time, for needing assistance with preforming her magic. October has so much potential for being an extremely powerful being. For her lack of knowledge, it wouldn’t have fit for her to be great and powerful right away.

I hope we see more of October and her harem. I truly loved this book and this set of characters. If there’s another book set around these characters, I am definitely down for more of them! I’m also curious about Maddie and her potential love life, and want to read about that. But I’m hoping there’s more before we get into her story (if there’s a plan for that. I have no idea if there will be more of not, but I really hope so!)

Dead End was an enjoyable Halloween read. I'd dare say it was fun even. Fun in the way that scary movies are, where you watch but while peeking from behind your hands. This book read a lot like a thriller movie would play on the big screen. It was creepy and spooky and all things Halloween that I love and fear in equal measure. I liked the characters and the storyline. The pacing was good and engaging. Let me really age myself for a moment. I remember when the Goosebumps series by R.L. Stine came out in the early 1990s. This book was very reminiscent of that series for me in terms of plot, which I loved. This is definitely not for kids though as there are so super hot sex scenes! A must read for lovers of spooky stories.

This has potential

Three things:
1. I expected the editing to be way better, but there was so many points where characters were talking but the "" around the speech was half there or not at all. And points where something was written opposite of what the intention was. Whoever edited this ... I hope the authors didn't pay a lot for the service.
2. The story itself has a lot of potential, but I felt like Toby flip flopped a lot and every time I thought her character was maturing or moving forward, inexplicably she would go back to behaviour I thought she had moved past.
3. I feel dumb for this, but it took me till 90% of the book to realize just who the four main male characters were named after.

Madeline and Penn brought a whole new universe to life with Dead End! It's creepy, fun, magical, hot, and a melting pot of all the things! It's been a long time since I've entered such a unique universe in the book world. I'm definitely hoping for another book for Mad! Or at least an update on her new adventure!

P.s., October is making me one jealous witch!

A witchy read

For all lovers of RH, paranormal and young adults this is for you. A brilliant read with LOTS of sexy bits but you also have killer clowns, giant spiders and a puppet thrown in too. I kept hearing Halloween music in my head all through reading this book. It was a lot of fun.

Decent enough story although a little slow in the middle, but too many silly spelling errors, even in the main characters names!

Too many story inconsistencies. The beginning seemed like a book made for middle school with everyone’s and everything’s name matching up to horror movies or television shows. The love interests were bullies and the idea that they were doing it to bring her out of depression seemed ridiculous. Mid-way through, things started heating up and the story became more fun as she described the town and it’s denizens. There were a lot of great side characters like Jessica, Roger, Maddy, Baen, and Auntie Pip. The boys and Maddy coming into different powers was fun to read. There were so many things I questioned though. Didn’t any of the group that died and went to Midnight Hollow have families? It was brought up in the last two lines of the book but I thought it was glaringly absent. Second, they all died and October brought them back to life but they were still mortal? Then the Aunties tell them they can’t go back because they died but in the end Maddy goes through the portal with no explanation. I would ask what was the point but I’m assuming it is for a sequel. Last and most important October died on the bus and woke up in Midnight Hollow. Why didn’t her parents? At the very least it would seem that her Dad, a necromancer, would have made it there.

… and once again i just didn’t like the FMC as she came across as very self absorbed and miserably one dimensional … yes she went through trauma … but she admits she was a complete bitch to everyone who cared about her … then was all judgemental / moody / narcissistic that everyone acted like they hated her … shocker 🙄 … maybe she developed a personality later on in the book … and it will justify why anyone would like her let alone be remotely attracted to her …
but i will happily never know …

This is an updated review as I've already read through the book once but I could NOT pass up the chance to read it again, it's the perfect time of year for it!

MH takes everything I love/have ever loved about Halloween, rolls it into one, and knocks it out of the freaking park!!

The character names just make it that much better. Run, don't walk and make this your next spooky time read!

The majority of the issues I had with this book have already been covered by Jennifer and BookFiend in their reviews. Instead of reiterating what they’ve already said—but in what would be a far less sensical matter—I’ll just share the notes I took whilst I was reading, and you can take from them what you will.

✦ How did Fe and Pip exist in both dimensions at once?

✦ Why isn’t anyone worried that Jessica went MIA around the time October was attacked?

✦ The guys’ excuse for bullying October is bullshit.
Update: October’s buying the bullshit.

✦ October’s officially reached TSTL territory after one too many poor decisions.

✦ How is it that October—the novice untrained necromancer—is granted permission to not only raise a recently deceased person, but to do so with zero supervision?!
Update: My bad, she’s sneaking into the morgue.

✦ Morgue sex?! Really?!

✦ Are we not going to mention that the guys and Maddie left their families behind? All they’ve mentioned so far is the basketball team and college.
Update: It’s the last chapter and they finally bring up their families, almost as an afterthought.

✦ Am I supposed to accept the way that everybody keeps shrugging off the mysterious knocking inside the house as being realistic?
Update: FINALLY! They’re going to ask!

Update: …they didn’t ask.

✦ October: repeatedly comments on how suspicious the villain is. Also October: doesn’t suspect the villain of being the villain.

After an unfortunate incident on Halloween night, October 'Toby' Hallowell is suddenly thrown into a whole new world which leaves her questioning who the hell she is. Good thing she's not alone, accompanied by Maddie, her best friend, and four of her once closest friends, Jason, Michael, Norman and Freddy; each of them help one another to settle into their new norm.

3.75/5

This is a standalone bullyverse reverse harem with a horror theme which was a kinda refreshing to read. Lemme just say that I freaking love Maddie and Jessica so much. They stuck by the MC through thick and thin and their friendship with each other was the best part of the story for me. From their loyalty to their quirky hits and comebacks, they had me bursting out laughing.

Another part of the story that I really enjoy was the smut and woo- DAMN. Some of these scenes got me mad blushing and gasping. Definitely bookmarked these scenes for future re-reads...

So that's what I enjoyed from the book so let's start unravelling the parts that I disliked-

As much as I love a good bullyverse, I really couldn't get behind the reason why the ML's started treating the MC like shit in the first place... The taunts and comments all seem very childish.

Other than the MC and her bestie, I really couldn't distinguish the four guys apart from each other. They all started to just merge into one blob with slightly different features with dicks.

I also found the pacing a little off. One moment I was tearing up, then cut to a horror scene then suddenly they're fine and having sex but not without a pause in the middle for a quick comical comment. Outside the smut scenes, it kinda felt like I was reading a young teen novel.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this story as it had me tensed and wondering what would happen next. I would totally read a sequel of

I kept getting so bored while reading. It took me days to get through the book, because I just kept losing interest and putting it down. I ended up forcing myself to finish it. The writing felt choppy, and there was poor editing throughout. The authors kept using the wrong words and misspelling things, and it kept taking me out of the story. I think my biggest issue was this was a pretty blatant ripoff of Yeah it was made darker and RH, but I knew how this was going to unfold really early on simply b/c of how closely it mimicked that movie (and all the heavy foreshadowing).

Also did not like the resolution with the guys. The characters together are also TSTL.

The random reference to 2020 was also jarring and didn't fit with the story.

Lots of strings are left dangling, too.

Dead End is a paranormal, reverse harem romance. The MMCs were her friends turned tormentors and in a life-changing event, they are bought back together again. Everything isn't sorted out just by that one event they actually have to take some steps to find their way back to each other.

I thought I'd really like this book and it's not that I didn't but I just didn't love it as much as I thought I would.

The premise was good, the characters good, and the conflict was good but I just found it was missing something for me. At times it felt a little too drawn out. I was able to pick the villain easily enough but there were a few little twists on the way that I enjoyed. There were also some moments that seemed to jump over really quickly and others we didn't really get answers to.

In saying all that I did enjoy the story and I would be interested in going back and reading Maddie's story.

October is barely living anymore, after losing her parents a year ago to the date on Halloween night she's a shell of the person she used to be. Gone is her barbie doll looks, instead she embraced her goth-like personality. All she has left in the world now are her Aunts and her best friend Maddie. The boys she's loved since childhood have become her bullies since she pushed them away and changed herself.

All she wanted for this one night was to be with Maddie and let her friend have some fun. But Halloween night doesn't end that way. With a bus crash, October, Maddie, Jason, Micahel, Freddy, and Norman are no longer the same people they once were.

Waking up in a parallel dimension they have a whole new life to learn to deal with. Thankfully since October's Aunts are in fact witches they too are able to travel to this new dimension. They are the perfect guides, but they aren't telling October and her friends everything they know.

As each discovers and learns their new abilities the walls built around them start to fall and October starts to see the boys for what they have always been, the loves of her life.

Meanwhile, others are out to get October. She has no idea who is after her or why and every clue she uncovers only leaves her with more questions. When she finally discovers the truth and the reason behind it all she'll need all her power and her boyfriends to save them all.

Happy Reading.

There was a ton of promise with this book, but I couldn’t finish it. I truly did feel like two people wrote it- it wasn’t a smooth and cohesive book, I had to agree with another reviewer, it felt like it was copy and pasted and parts didn’t flow.

The repetitious phrase “the aunties” just got to be too much . There are so many ways to refer to your last living family members that continually phrasing “The aunties” just felt lazy and monotonous. I stopped at 79% because this book felt like it was geared towards 16-18yr but with adult smutty scenes. There was a ton of rehashing and description that just felt not needed? I didn’t feel a connection with the FMC or the main leads… I’m all about a bully romance but I’d want a good reason why. Their reason for being jerks to her? They wanted to fire her up after she sunk into a deep depression over losing her parents. So they were verbally abusive to her and modeled behavior for their fellow classmates to follow.

I REALLY wanted to love this but I found myself rolling my eyes, there was so much to unload trope-wise. It’s hard to believe that “the aunties” who had been taking care of her for a few months didn’t tell her about powers or this whole other world that she’s a part of. There were some plot holes I didn’t really get, or that wasn’t explained, (that could be my fault because I stopped at chapter 18). How is it she had the powers to bring her friends back from the dead then give them powers, then she dies and then they all go to the Halloween town? I felt like that was super unclear. So she used her powers and it killed her and then that was it? Now she’s trapped in a Halloween town and can’t leave. The bus scene, I had to reread because it was a little confusing. So the bus was attacked by a swarm of bats and it pushed the bus down ( was there a hill, a ravine what caused it to get wrecked by the tree)?

I just don’t think this book was well thought out. This needed to be better edited if it was edited at all.

There’s so much potential but I honestly would rather read about the FMC’s best friend instead of the current list of main characters they all suck and fall flat.

This read is the perfect thing I needed during this spooky season. I am obsessed with anything Halloween and this book did not disappoint.
October (Toby) is not your average girl, or at least she was until the night her life changed forever. After the passing of her parents, she fell into a dark part of herself and pushed everyone away except Maddie. Many called her names, but the ones that hurt the most were from her guy best friends growing up. Freddy, Michael, Jason, and Norman all tormented her about her new appearance anytime she was around. Until one eventful trip and a message from a psychic reader changed everyone's lives. Not understanding what happened, these friends must learn a new way of life and not everything is what it seems.
This book was everything I never knew I needed. I love the family bond between everyone including Aunt Pip and Aunt Fe. They help everyone adjust to a new life on the other side, but boy they will have you rolling in laughter. And the town will have you wanting Halloween year round!! Even with a Jessica on your shoulder. And please let's not forget about the spice. Toby gets exactly what she deserves by not just one, but all four of her men. This book is a must-read this spooky season!!

Not a dead end story

This story is like the movie Halloween Town meets Goosebumps, buts for adults. I loved the topsy-turvy, fun-house feel of it all. The entire story felt like a run a haunted house because of the intrigue, twist and turns the story took.

There were a few things that the author left for the reader to assume, which annoyed me, though. I didn't quite understand why the death of her friends was enough for October to bring them back, but not the death of her parents wasn't? What determined what her friends would come back as?

Despite the questions, I do hope that the little cliffhanger means there will be more coming because I did enjoy the book.

Could handle a bit more editing but over all a fun little Halloween themed story. I would rate it as maybe a two for the spice scale. Probably closer to a 1.5, the scenes are short and to the point, especially for a why choose. The groups stayed small. Although it technically is a bully, they get over these issues quickly and very little active bullying takes place on page. The female lead, October, is a likable and believable character. Similarly, her best friend Maddie is enjoyable and fun to read. The end of the book leaves open the possibility for another story to continue with the best friend, leaving fans wanting for more while still having completed October's journey.

Recommended by an amazing author. This was a fun read for the night. It was confusing at first until I reread it at a slower pace. I like that October knows who she is and hates how she used to portray herself. She found her way and though it took her a while to get to where she was, she wasn't alone. Her dedication to save the ones that she loves knows no bounds. Her mind reading was a bit funny here and there without the guys knowing. This book was a fast read. I like that it was a standalone and at the same time I don't since I want the relationship building and more hype. I want more smut scenes. LOL. reading this book sounds like it would have a short prequel before starting this book. I would recommend this to others.
