Amanda is heartbroken when her true mate rejects her because she’s a hybrid. Realizing she’ll never be accepted by full-blooded shifters, she accepts a place at Gemini Academy.
Her new life gets off to a rocky start when she’s stalked by a dangerous shifter she managed to attract before she left her old pack. Rescued by an Alpha, she soon finds out Wolf Creek is much more accepting of hybrids.
Even so, she doesn’t expect to find another true mate there, never mind three of them. She can’t deny her attraction to them, but she’s afraid to have her heart broken all over again.
Can she let go of the past, or will it come back to haunt her?
Hybrid Rejected is a standalone new adult rejected mate reverse harem romance with college-aged characters, serious steam and an HEA.
This was a pretty cute slow burn read. After far too casually being rejected by her true mate, Amanda's life goes from bad to worse in the blink of an eye. Her only choice is to run away from the town that's treated her like a bad smell for as long as she can remember. Things would be a little easier if her and her bestie and her were still talking but after a bit of drama Amanda leaves on bad terms. It doesn't help that her one true mate is her besties brother and not someone she thought would betray her. Then again Amanda's world is just beginning to spin because having more than one true mate is just one of the many issues Amanda will have to face. Even with the characters being mated after Amanda is rejected her future harem are really patient with her and take time to get to know her. I was a bit surprised there was not more action or even drama but most of it centered around her best friend and the issue they kind of sort of fought over. Still an engaging read and I'm def going to have to check out some of the other standalones as we do meet some of the other books' characters here.
What a wonderful read!!! A completely new take on the rejected mate theme. Filled with unique shifters, hybrids, witches, alpha males, intrigue, and a woman at the center whose soul and kindness shine bright. The pacing is good as it allows us to really get to know the main characters. I've a feeling we may not have seen the last of the idiot who sparked this entire story by rejecting her. However our awesome main character is no longer alone, and is fast become who she's always meant to become. I can't wait to see her when she's truly come into her true skin. I greatly look forward to seeing what happens in the next book, as I've come to care about this motley crew 😉
Hybrid - Amanda (Half wolf and half witch) is basically low down in the pecking order in her own pack and not seen as good as full pure blood wolves. My heart broke for her when she was rejected. Her mate was just a bit of a spineless idiot. For me Amanda came into her own and grew more as a character when she finally left her own pack. It was a book of discovery for her about finding herself and her place with three mates - Sean, Parker and Dante. Who had in themselves their own anxieties and backstories. So much to like in this book as well as plenty of steam and great characters too. Just a damn fine read
I've noticed Romy's work for a while now and I'm so happy to say that I've finally managed to read one of her books. Hybrid Rejected is a multiple point-of-view rejected mate reverse harem. The story follows Amanda as she gets rejected by one mate only to find a few more who have been waiting all their lives for her.
Amanda is a hybrid, she's half-wolf and half-witch and in this world hybrids while there a plenty of them, hybrids don't get treated well. They are the lowest ranking pack members, often excluded, abused, and forced to ignore one part of who they are. Ever since her parents died Amanda has been raised in a pack by her Aunt Maria who does only the basics to take care of her, she doesn't show any empathy towards Amanda, and she doesn't stick up to her niece when it comes to the pack. Amanda has to deal with a lot, she takes the insults, practices magic on her own in secret, takes what she can get, and puts up with the pack's bad behavior, she has learned not to make waves. She only has one true friend, Jillian, who seems a little wild, is one of the pack's golden kids and twin sister to Jake, Amanda's crush.
So you can see why Amanda is beyond ready to leave the first chance she gets and that chance comes in the form of Gemini Academy, it's a school full of all kinds of hybrids like Amanda and it's never more needed when it turns out that Jake is her mate and rejects her in front of the whole town. Jake is a jerk, he wants her but doesn't want her all because she's a hybrid, ugh. I'm glad that Amanda got the chance to start her life over at the academy, that she wasn't willing to stick around a place so toxic.
When she gets to the academy she discovers that she has a weird connection to three wolf shifters, Sean, Parker, and Dante. Sean is an alpha and is kinder and more patient than anyone Amanda has ever met. Parker while hot tempered has had past relationship issues and has a bit of damage because of it. While Dante is the most skittish out of everyone, he was in the foster system and has been manipulated and abused for most of his life, he has trouble trusting anyone, or anything good. However, each guy put aside whatever issues they have and they truly want a connection with her, they want to protect her, and make her happy. I like all the guys but I have to say Sean is my favorite, he's the sweetest, the most understanding and he cares, not just about Amanda but the others as well, he's a great alpha.
This is the second book I've read recently that I've come across a type of shifter I haven't read about before. In this book, there are gator shifters and it was really interesting to learn about them, their personalities, their matings, and how they are in society overall. I will admit from the example I got, I don't like gator shifters but another story might change my mind. Another thing I like about was the mention of hybrids, usually, they don't mention a lot of hybrids it's like one and that's it but seeing a whole school for them was interesting. Since Amanda's story was set during the summer and she didn't have classes there wasn't any classroom experience but I would love to see what classes for hybrids would have been like. It would be so cool if Amanda had another story so I can see the academy in action, but this is a standalone with a HEA.
Hybrid Rejected was a steamy paranormal reverse harem that was filled with hot shifters, mating bonds, rejected mates, crazy witches, and more. I can say I highly enjoyed my first Romy Lockhart book and I am looking forward to reading more, especially more books in this world. Romy has a whole group of these books that are connected and have familiar characters, in fact, her next book is centered on a character went meet in this book. I gotta make sure I pick up more of Romy's work soon.
When I get offered a Romy Lockhart arc I usually instantly click download. The first book I read by her surprised me in a very positive way and the other books didn't disappoint either. I was therefore quite excited to read this story and I was even more excited when I discovered that the story takes place in the same universe as the story of Rachel, which was my first Lockhart. Although it's totally possible to read it as a stand-alone, the little cameo made me smile.
With this book Romy Lockhart once more delivered a lovely story. Firstly because the heroine of our story, Amber, is so incredibly likable. That's in a way because she has been brought up quite sheltered. She doesn't know too much of the world and at times she can be a little naive. But it's mostly because despite her sheltered upbringing and all the pain from her past she is strong, looking forward to the future and trying to make the best of her life.
I also quite liked how the guys gave her all the room she needed to do what she needed to do. I understand that it's amazing to read about Alphaholes who love someone that much that they can't help themselves, but I think the other form of love, the kind of love where the other is more important than yourself and where they determine the pace, is way more beautiful and way more pure. It really made me like the guys a lot.
It weren't just the characters stealing the show though. On top of the blossoming relationship, with its ups and downs, there is a lot more going on and therefore the book constantly kept me on the tips of my toes. Lockhart found a really good balance between emotional moments and action. On top of that every scene, everything that happened, every crucial moment was important and lead to quite some interesting drama.
I can't wait to read the next book in this series of interconnected tales!
Romy Lockhart gives us the beginning of a wonderful set of books in Hybrid Rejected.
We meet Amanda, a wolf/witch hybrid who, as the hybrids in her pack, is treated with distain by all, except for her best friend and her best friend’s brother.
When graduation finally occurs, a particularly dire and painful set of circumstances occur that move Amanda on to a path she never expected.
With a lot of heart, Romy fills this PNR RH story with action and friendship, need and love.
Amanda is a young witch/wolf-shifter hybrid living in a werewolf pack where purebloods dictate and run the regime and she is supposed to keep her head down and meld into the shadows. Her pack looks at her as a lesser being, even her aunt who is forced to look after her, and she is forbidden to partake in any ceremonies or group activities. The only people she feels close to are her best friend and her twin brother. Amanda is certain that the brother is her true mate but despite a single kiss, he keeps his distance from her. That is until is his mate-finding ceremony. She finds a way to be there, and they find out that they are true mates but he decides to reject her- after all she is only a hybrid. There is nothing left for Amanda so she agrees to go to the Academy, a special school that allows only hybrids to attend. What she doesn't expect is to find more true mates, and to finally find a place where she belongs. But will she be able to stay? Or will her past catch up with her?
This is a standalone book and can be read as such, though from my understanding there are other books that are in the same universe but other characters. This is a multiple POV that switches rapidly between the different characters. The book focuses more on emotions, emotional healing, and building new connections for all the main characters, not just or FMC. In this harem, we get different outlooks on the traditional roles. We get a kind Alpha that doesn't chase girls or pushes to be the toughest, meanest guy, and he definitely doesn't throw his weight around. The Beta, though he does follow orders, chafes a little under the collar and hates being the errand boy- so we get some great dialogue from that.
While the main characters are mainly wolf shifters or at least part wolf, we get other kinds as well mainly gator shifters. This book also has a witch coven in the mix and they don't always get along. I love seeing how the politics of the different groups come into play and seeing the interaction between them all is really interesting. I'm definitely going to check out the other books that are by this author and in this world. The writing was really fluid and natural. It had a great pace to it that never felt rushed, or dragged in any place. This book is a slow-burn RH but when the steam kicks in look out!! You are in for a hot ride with this book!!
There aren’t even words to tell you how completely ridiculous this book was. I’m pretty sure I was cringing throughout the entire thing. I’m also pretty sure that the entire cast of characters were supposed to be caricatures. I’m fairly certain that this entire story has to be a joke, like a funny SNL skit or something. Is the author laughing to herself about getting one over on us? She must be.
This book was a mishmash of weird, stupid, and ridiculous. The dialogue made me LOL, even when it was supposed to be serious.
There aren’t even words to explain how bad this book was. I’m not even going to write about all the ways that this book was garbage. If you can imagine it, then it was a problem. World building? Nah. Relationship development? Nope. Steam? Cringe. Character development? What’s that? Plot? WTF - the author just threw all the crazy weird shit together aand TA DA!
The only reason I’m rating it 2 stars is because I was mildly entertained by the (unintentional) insanity.
*This is NOT an omegaverse of any sort. No knots, no nesting, nada. These are shifters who mate with anyone regardless of designation (alpha, beta, omega). *They DO have fated mates. *Virgin H and h *Very low steam - 80% into the book and very bland *No OM OW drama *Rejected mate (with tragic past, obviously) *Reverse harem *pack dynamics *NOT an academy RH
Hybrid Rejected by Romy Lockhart is the perfect book to pick up if you enjoy reading rejected mate novels and want that perfect HEA all wrapped up into one. The author introduces readers to Amanda. She's a hybrid, but is clinging to the hope that her fated mate will accept her despite the fact that he's full-blooded and the place they live frowns on hybrids. It's not her fault she was born this way, right? Sadly, he rejects her and instead of attempting to follow him (plan A) she accepts a place a Gemini Academy where her life takes a serious twist. She meets not one, not two, but three mates. She's shocked, but is afraid of getting hurt again...can she move past what the first did to her? I devoured this book! The chapters are several but they literally fly by as you eat this book up. I love the dynamics between the characters. While Sean is the Alpha he's not out there trying to be always in control. I love how laid-back and relaxed he is overall until it comes to Amanda being in danger. Then he's all business. I like how each of the guys is uniquely different as well. It brings a nice balance to the story and mean that overall there is less drama to wade through. I really enjoyed this book and am almost disappointed it's a stand-alone. LOL! I'd love to read more books by this author though so I hope there were will be more novels like this to come. I'm rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. A book well worth reading.
This was definitely an interesting story, and one I don't think I've read before. There are witches, hybrids, shifters and so much more. There are also some shifters I've never seen before. Things don't go well for Amanda, first of all, she's a hybrid, and when she finds her mates he rejects her because of that. Taking off from the life she's known she ends up at Gemini Academy, an academy where hybrids are welcomed more so than they were in her old hometown.
I absolutely adored her mates, and I loved learning about them as the story went on. We don't get much on classes themselves as Amanda is there before the new term starts but there is still so much action going on.
Because it is a standalone, the story is nicely tied up. Though I wouldn't say no to more of these characters in the future that's for sure.
Amanda is a Hybrid in a pack where purity of blood determines where you stand alongside the normal pack hierarchy add to that her fated mate rejects her and life is pretty awful and pointless until she attends an academy especially for rejects such as herself where life begins to take on more of an appeal and she starts to feel that she is no longer an outsider looking in. She finds her place, love and family but will her past catch up with her and destroy everything she has ever wanted or will she finally be able to feel her worth and escape her demons. Brilliantly told stand alone RH storey with great character and relationship dynamics.
This is a great read! It’s well written and action packed and full of suspense, drama and a whole lotta steam. Our mc Amanda is strong and her journey hard but she gets through it as she makes her discoveries and finds her three fated mates. It’s emotional , there’s heartbreak but then there’s love and romance as well as some amazing chemistry and magic and don’t forget the twists!!
First book by this author but it won't be the last. Amanda's story is heart wrenching but perfect at the same time. I'm not usually a fan of standalones but I absolutely loved this one and I'll definitely be reading more in this world.
Another great story by Romy Lockhart. Quickly becoming a favorite author of mine. Loved this story. Been on a kick with these rejected mates books lately. This one is really good. Very well written. Loved the storyline. Absolutely loved the characters. Definitely would recommend.
Another terrific paranormal shifter story with a cast of strong characters. The author does a fantastic job developing the story and pulled me in right from the start. She had me glued to the pages with all the drama and suspense as well as the sizzling chemistry. It's well written, moves fluidly with vividly painted scenes and is a great read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
There wasn't really much to set this apart from all of the other books in the genre and honestly, I was so bored of it that I didn't finish at 47%. Everything was just so bland. I mean, the world building was just meh. The characters were all kinda blah, although there was an attempt at development. The relationship building was attempted and might have gotten there eventually, but I just couldn't make myself keep reading. If I remember the author's name (doubtful) I won't read anything else of hers but it wasn't bad enough to add to my Never Again list, so I'll probably forget and might read something else of hers by accident.
This was a really good read. A really good standalone rejected mate book. I enjoyed the characters and the plot wasn’t to heavy. I really like this author and her writing.
Hybrid Rejected is definitely a slow burn romance. In the beginning, we meet Amanda. She's not really welcomed in her pack due to being a hybrid. There's only two people who treat her like a normal shifter: her best friend and her best friend's brother. It also doesn't help that she has a huge crush on the brother and has a feeling that they are true mates. Which, yes, they are but he rejects her in front of everyone due to her being a hybrid.
So, with this rejection and kind of being rejected for what she was born into, she heads off to college. A new town where hybrids are actually accepted will be a nice change of pace for her. It's also interesting that she goes into heat after meeting some new guys too. She doesn't know that she has new mates already and starts to freak out.
Eventually they work their way into her heart and vice versa. She was definitely shy, but the chemistry was there. It was cute and I liked how they didn't force any bullshit on her. Of course, once things were going great, we get into the drama. Which came and went quite easily.
In the end, I definitely enjoyed this and all the romance that I got towards the end of this book. Will have to jump into the next one of this series next month for sure.
Amanda is rejected by her mate for being a hybrid rather than a full blooded shifter, they are not accepting of any who aren't like them. She is saved by an alpha after a stalker hunts her from her old life to her new one. Wolf creek is much more tolerant towards hybrids and don't treat her differently because of her blood. Being accepted into the Gemini Academy was probably the best thing that has happened to her. Amanda never thought she would ever get another mate but suddenly there three males who want her. Her heart hasn't gotten over the rejection and betrayal... How can she trust it won't get shattered again?
Another brilliant and inspired story from Romy which instantly had me glued from the first page. I have never once been disappointed reading anything by this particular author and this is no exception. The plot is unique and this take on rejected mates is mind blowing. I really liked the fact that loneliness was not an option and now three men can soothe this beautiful soul. There is such a variety of characters and beings within this book but it is handled expertly.

I have recently gotten into the rejected mate books and this one was an incredible read! Amanda has not has an easy life, being a hybrid makes it very hard in her world. She has been beaten and abused but she does not give up.
The town she grew up in never accepted her just because she wasn't full wolf, and the man she thought would be her mate turned into an a** and just made her choice to leave that much easier. She is able to escape and go to an academy full of others like her. At the school she meets 3 wolf shifters and feels some kind of connection. The build up through this book was incredible and you got to see a lot of character development.
You get the steam, some sweet characters that give our FMC the time she needs, as well as pulling on the heartstrings. I love that this is a collection of standalone's that are connected with character cameo's from other books and I cannot wait to find out what will happen in the next book. I have fallen in love with Romy's writing style and love everything that she has created for us.
The addition starts with the book cover….yeah…yeah…yeah don’t judge a book by its cover they say ….well we all do it and this one here it is the scratch to your itch or better yet the filling to your oreos! Within the first chapters you get the panoramic view of whom you’re dealing with! Hybrids are the lowest of the low when it comes to shifters, they are half shift and half witch, and this is the category Amanda falls in she is half wolf and half witch. She has lost her parents living with an aunt who really doesn’t care for her, she is mistreated, abused, verbal insults daily so she practices her magic on her own in secret out of fear, she takes care of herself and makes no waves. One friend and the hots for her friend’s twin brother but of course that doesn’t go as planned so when graduation finally comes she leaves for Gemini Academy where a stalker shifter followed her but there are three mates there willing and ready to protect her but will she learn to trust in time, what happens with the stalker, why is he after her, does she come in contact with her old pack and has she finally found a little peace and happiness with her three mates?
Amanda is a hybrid wolf/witch, and living in a pack, she knows her place is among the lowest in the pack. Many of the full blood wolves ignore and don't include her, luckily she has a best friend (Jillian), who makes her life a little easier. Unfortunately after been rejected, and some other trouble, she decides to move on, with sadness in her heart (for her true mate rejected her). Danger seems to be stalking her, although she meets a few interesting males. Will she give them a chance? Can they keep her safe? I loved this scorching romance, Amanda was easy to love (and she is protective of those she loves), I loved her men too (Sean, Parker and Dante) and their distinct personalities (so hard to chose a favourite out of them, therefore it will have to be them all). I loved the story with it's intrigue, danger, twists and angst. I hope there are more stories on hybrid characters.

Amanda is a young witch-wolfshifter hybrid living in a werewolf pack where she is supposed to be heard nor seen. Her pack looks at her as a lesser being and she is supposed to stay far away from ceremonies and other group activities. The only people she feels a little closer to are her best friend and her twin brother. Amanda is certain that he is her true mate but despite of a single kiss, he stays far away from her before his mate-finding ceremonie. She finds a way to be there at the ceremonie, but at the same moment she finds out she is his true mate, he decides to reject the mating bond. With a lost mate and a best friend that seems to ignore her, there is nothing left for Amanda to stay for.
This is a standalone multiple POV that switches rapidly between the different characters. I like the way this book focusses on emotions, emotional healing and the building of new connections and that for all the main characters. In the harem I especially liked Sean; finally a kind alpha that doesn't chase girls or feels the need to be "the big dog". I'm not entirely certain how to feal about Amanda's best friend, but she is getting her own story so reading that will probably help. While the main characters are wolf shifters or at least part wolf, I liked the concept of gator shifters; I'm looking forward to finding out more about them in other books by this author.

Amanda is rejected by her true mate because of what she is, a hybrid. Heartbroken, she makes the choice to go to Gemini Academy. It is here that she finds that she may have been rejected by one true mate, but she has three more. But can she get over being rejected and give them a chance? There is also danger on the horizon, as Amanda is being staked by a dangerous creature. Can she allow herself to rely on her mates to keep her safe?
This is an amazing story. I loved the action, the deception, the sexual tension and chemistry, and of course the steam! I also love how the story is told in multiple POV’s. I really enjoy seeing the story from different angles and knowing what is going through the characters minds. I absolutely loooved the characters, character development, and the relationship development. And I adore how protective the guys are of Amanda!
I honestly could not put this book down! If you are looking for a great standalone, rejected mates, with fantastic characters and storyline, then look no further!
This book had so much potential to be really interesting, yet it wasn't.
There were more things that I didn't like than things I actually did. -the characters.. two dimensional at best. While reading different POVs you really need something to separate the characters. Maybe one curses internally, another hums when nervous.. idk anything to not make me forget who's portion I'm reading. SO MUCH of this book was just in their heads and for characters that are pretty boring, that is bad.. like so BAD! -Amanda was unremarkable. She was highly immature for 18 and honestly came off as stupid. (not sure what the author was going for.. but it definitely didn't work out) -Jillian. The WORST "bff" I've EVER READ!! She had ZERO care about anyone but herself. Amanda is SUPPOSED to be her best friend and goes through one of the most traumatic experiences publicly and Jillian doesn't even check on her?! Not even DAYS later?! And when she finally sees Amanda what does she do... talk about how miserable SHE is. -hybrids- hybrids in this book are EVERYWHERE (tons of them) yet they are shunned.. why, and how since there are so many. -Amanda's magic.. so it's basically nonexistent and what she does have is fledgling at best, yet on instinct she somehow takes down the most powerful witch around, basically by accident.
-follow ups... so the author states we can read more of the series by reading:
*Rachel's story.. remember her? the hybrid Amanda met on day 1 exchanged numbers then is NEVER MENTIONED again. (except.. now I'm friends with Rachel) *Jillian's story.. the self absorbed best friend .. that not only put her friend in danger (Beach with the gators) but didn't even checkup on Amanda after her own brother PUBLICLY rejected her *Cheryl's story.. a friend (that was never mentioned) of Rachel's that was mentioned once.
No thank you. This book was so many huge problems I honestly can't believe I forced myself to finish it.
Amanda is a wolf-witch hybrid who has not been treated well most of her life. Now she is left heartbroken as her true mate rejects her in front of the entire pack for being a hybrid. With no hope of acceptance by the pack, she goes to Gemini Academy to get away from all of them. Even that isn’t easy when a dangerous shifter hunts her and has to be rescued by an Alpha. But this time, it seems the shifters are more accepting.
So imagine her shock when Amanda meets three shifters, Sean (Alpha), Dante, and Parker – true mates who each want her and want to make her happy! Will her heart get broken again? Can she take a chance on these guys? Or is she still in danger from her past? Grab your copy and see what Fate has in store for Amanda.
"I'm a stronger believer that rejected girl must be seen as fierce girls and not the typically girl that's broken girl because a dude told her no and that no means she would never be happy again. Why when they found a second change they suddenly are weak, afraid girls? NO, THAT'S BULLSHIT!!! They should be brave enough to have fun, part and fuck without attachments until someone is worth enough to start a relationship. Girl if three guys are dying for you and want to 'eat you' just enjoy the ride and see where it goes don't act like a kid running away. Ugh! Annoying as fuck!!
I kind of liked the book, that's why I give it 4 stars. But I still had my issues with this one. Or more, it's not what I expected it to be. And not as good as I wished.
For me, the story was boring. Sure, there were threats and all. But it all was solved easily after some pages. It's not Omegaverse, what I had expected after reading in the blurb about an Alpha. So, there is no knotting, nesting or anything like that. I kind of could have overlooked that. But even the Alpha doesn't feel Alpha to me. Too soft to my taste. Parker was more interesting. And Dante was difficult. Though, I could understand his reasoning best.
And Amanda was the typical virgin sweet girl, but clueless in many ways. I didn't have the feeling she really was into that Jake too much. I mean, the bond was broken fast, and I didn't get the feeling it was so special or anything. In comparison to the first meeting of her and Sean. Even her friendship with Jillian felt superficial.
And the pace between the characters were not my thing either. I don't have anything against slow burn, but it was boring to read over and over again, that she isn't ready for this and that. I get it, it's about being thoughtful and have consent and all. But here I didn't like it in the way it was written.
And we didn't get the academy experience at all, because the events are in the summer break. And an academy full of hybrid shifters kind of sounds interesting.
But that are only points I noticed. But I can't put it in words good enough, to say what it is directly that makes me dislike and like the book at the same time. I guess, it's the mix of the things above and the uniqueness of the world. Like gator shifters and their differences. The world building was fascinating, even though, it wasn't explained much other than that hybrids are often shunned in other places.
Overall, I stand by my statement that I liked it, but I don't think I liked it enough to read more about this universe. It's just not my thing, I guess.
