Naga Brides #3

Blue Coral

Rate this book
When I see her, I have to have her.

The one they call Shelby.

But the humans have not given her to us. She remains behind the walls of the facility they have reclaimed. She remains with a male that does not DESERVE her.

This beautiful, enchanting creature with long black braids and bright eyes needs a real male, a master, a true protector. She needs me.

I will do whatever it takes to claim her.

I’ll kill.
I’ll cheat.
I’ll steal.

No human, naga, or otherwise will keep us apart. Tonight, Shelby will be in my arms.

To hell with the rest.

Blue Coral is the third book in a series of Bride Hunting Aliens. With the charm of a snake, and the wiles of a devil, these males will do anything, and I mean anything, for their females.

Shelby's lie

Her lie caused the biggest ripple effect within the naga brides. She's suppose to be smart, but the entire time she was trapped with Vagan and Colin, she made dumb decisions left a d right. Colin is an ass hat too, but Shelby, in my opinion, is the type that messes up people's lives and doesn't take real responsibility for her lie.
All she does is cry and say she was manipulated! No, you're stupid, and you should have known better!

Intense story!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌎
Character development: ☹️😳🥺☺️🥰

The heroine: Shelby - of the three women from the crew that landed on Earth, Shelby was the only one that wasn’t traded to the Naga males in exchange for Lurker technology. Shelby wasn’t traded because she told Peter, the exploration team leader, that she was pregnant by Collins, another member of the Team with whom she had a short contracted relationship before they found they were both going on the mission to Earth.

The Hero: Vagan - He saw Shelby early on and knows she is his mate. He went to Zaku to demand they get Shelby for him. He wasn’t thinking straight since he was crazed with lust and denial. He ended up being stabbed and is slowly recovering, but he has never been away from water for so long, when he sees the facility crumbling in on itself and he knows Shelby is inside.

The Story: Shelby has been helped by Collins when Peter keeps making her take pregnancy tests. He acts like he is on her side, but won’t go against Peter’s decisions. Collins is handsome, but he is a mess and though their relationship ended well, Shelby doesn’t like the fact that he has been acting like they are a couple just because they are faking her pregnancy together.

Vagan goes into the falling building to save Shelby and the building comes down upon them. He, Shelby and Collins end up stuck beneath the rubble and struggling to find a way out. This book has had the best and most involved story of the three books so far. I was glad to get some of the answers about the Lurkers, about how the Naga came to be on Earth and more.

Elizabeth Hart and John Masterson do the narration and they do a great job. I like the fact that Elizabeth puts a lot of emotion into her narration, she easily sounds, intelligent, nervous, afraid and more. John has a deep voice which works well for the alien naga males. The book is dual points of view, and done in dual narration which isn’t my favorite since the male narrator has to do female voices and vice versa.

This was a wild ride. Loved Shelby and Vagan!!

And that ending! So sad that Death Adder is so far away... but I cannot wait!

Just 2 tiny things bugged me. Shelby hung on to Collins for WAY too long and.. the woman never fucking ATE anything. How was she still living?! She kept putting off eating and I was like .. nope. Need food. Haha!

Still loved it though.

2.5 stars!

This is the third book in the Naga Brides series and features Shelby and Vagan. Shelby has told a lie and that lie has caused a ripple effect on everyone around her. When Shelby and Colin (her 'bf') get stuck in an underground military facility with Vagan, everything she thought she knew is tested. What will come of the attraction that Shelby and Vagan feel for each other? What role does Colin play in all this? What will their future on this planet look like?

I have mixed feelings about this story. I didn't like Shelby. She was indecisive and I thought she made dumb decisions. ALL. THE. TIME. I really liked Vagan...he was your typical alpha male with animalistic tendencies that I love to read about. He has a checkered past but Lucas made me fall in love with his character. Colin and Vagan were a huge part of this novel and I was confused as to why until the end. The dick measuring got old fast. Honestly I felt like this story was more about other characters. There was a lot of unnecessary drama thrown in and I mostly found myself annoyed at the direction everything took. I didn't like Shelby so I didn't feel a connection to the MCs or their romance. The writing and world building was fine but definitely not my favorite in this series.

I love this series and will definitely be continuing on, but the characters in this one did not do it for me.

For a woman who had made some hard choices in her past, Shelby came across as naive and indecisive. She never seemed to truly accept Vagan nor give herself to him, and she was constantly ignoring and brushing him aside. Even in the last scene of the book, she stayed inside with her friends and made him wait alone in the woods. Wtf? Not my kinda HEA.

But Collins. Oh mannn, was he toxic! At every turn he would do some super chauvinistic thing, grabbing Shelby and dragging her around, or making rude ownership comments and deliberately antagonizing Vagan. And Vagan, who was supposed to be the feral alpha snake man, just said nothing and took it? Worse, Shelby kept blaming him instead of Collins! Talk about gaslighting!

OM/OW drama is not my thing, and half the plot centered around it. If you enjoy that kinda drama you might love this. But I kept wishing Collins would die horribly. 😅

I've been looking forward to Zhaillax's story from book 1 so I really hope he gets a better heroine who actually likes him.

I've been keeping up with this series since Viper, and Blue Coral has absolutely blown me away. I should start off by saying I'm familiar with Naomi Lucas' previous work. I read her series The Bestial Tribe a couple of years ago, and while it's only two books so far, it fell flat for me, especially the last book. But I'm really enjoying this series so far! It's a lot more fleshed out and in-depth compared to The Bestial Tribe, and I can tell Lucas' writing has greatly improved since then . I've noticed with the first two books in this series that information isn't dumped all at once, but it's built upon throughout the series, and everything goes chronologically, so it's best to start this series from the beginning with Viper. As stated in the author's note, the first arc of the story reaches its conclusion with Blue Coral, and boy are you in for a wild ride.

First, a brief recap of the events in the first two books. 1,500 years in the future, humans are fighting an intergalactic war against an alien species called the Ketts. They're gelatinous and blob-like in appearance, extremely difficult to kill, and have an appetite for human flesh. Earth as we know it was destroyed 1,500 years earlier when an alien race that had been friendly to and allied with the humans, called the Lurkawathians, suddenly turned on them. They began exterminating humans en masse before retreating to the stars from which they came. The Lurkers, as they are known by humans, left behind defunct technology and weapons from their time on Earth. But there's a caveat - only a Lurker can utilize any of it. The heroines from the first two books came from a planet that surviving humans had settled on following the near genocide that took place on Earth, and are part of a military team that land on Earth with a single purpose - .

Unfortunately, when they arrive, they soon discover they are not alone. An alien species known as nagas, which appear to be humanoid snake men, have taken over the planet in the humans' and Lurkers' absence. Zaku, the King Cobra is the first to approach the humans and facilitates a bargain with the captain of the team, Peter. In exchange for simplistic Lurker technology , Peter agrees to give the nagas three of his female team members . However, when the exchange took place on the plateau, the third woman - Shelby - was not present. According to her co-worker and one of the men who facilitated the exchange, Collins, Shelby had discovered she was pregnant with his child and gestating. This made Shelby ineligible for the exchange, but a certain naga doesn't take Shelby's absence very well...

Fast forward to the start of this book. Shelby is excavating underneath the ruins of the facility in which their team has landed, hoping to find remnants of Lurker tech and/or weapons. The events from the previous book have fueled her hatred for Peter and her frustration at Collins . And to make matters worse, Peter keeps pressuring her to take more tests to confirm her pregnancy . What Peter doesn't know is that Shelby not only isn't pregnant , but Collins has a hand in furthering the lie . Shelby and Collins are discussing their predicament when the excavation site suddenly shakes uncontrollably, causing the ground to cave in. Shelby is spared from near death when a certain naga rescues her just as they fall through the Earth...

Enter the H, Vagan. A blue coral snake, he first spotted Shelby when the team landed on Earth. Her eyes captivated him, and he has coveted her ever since. So it's easy to picture how enraged he became when the exchange took place at the plateau, and Shelby was not among the females presented to the nagas. This obsession almost immediately morphed into insanity that came to a violent head , but soon Vagan finds Shelby at the excavation site, where he keeps a watchful eye on her. After rescuing her, Vagan and Shelby find themselves deeper underground than she thought was possible. Collins' survival from the cave-in and his joining with them causes tensions to rise between all three, and soon it becomes clear to Collins and Vagan that only one of them can have Shelby...

There's a lot of back and forth and out-right competition between Collins and Vagan when it comes to Shelby. Both vie for her affections and both believe they are worthier of her than the other. And Shelby, to her credit, doesn't let any of it slide. She's quick to put the both of them in their place when they get out of line . Vagan's possessiveness of Shelby is a given, since he has been smitten with her since he first saw her when their team landed on Earth. And some of Collins' dialogue is almost uncomfortably possessive, and it becomes clear that he's head over heels in love with Shelby . At first, I didn't see the point of the bickering and fighting between the Vagan and Collins , and I half expected one of them to pull the "if I can't have her, no one can" card, but I was not expecting the ending that we got.

Their findings in the underground facility are what led me to shelf this as a horror story, because what they discovered and the events afterwards were truly horrific in nature.

And if that wasn't horrifying enough, Collins eventually snaps and makes a decision that irreversibly alters his life forever

By the time they find rescue , Shelby learns that their ship, the Dreadnought, left Earth shortly after the cave-in, effectively stranding her. While it gives her the potential to build a future with Vagan, it doesn't erase what happened to all of them. The book ends with a short blurb about the start of the next arc, Death Adder. While it's really short, it explains that a ship touches down near Zhallaix's den to the south west . It could be assumed that this ship is the Dreadnought, and since Zhallaix has an aversion to technology in any form, he wouldn't know what the Dreadnought looked like. And because he didn't meet with the humans, he wasn't on the plateau and he was not included in the exchange from the first book, so he would have no knowledge of human women being on Earth.

Overall, I give this a 5/5 stars. The story is really coming together, and I'm anxious to see how Lucas is able to humanize Zhallaix, whom appeared as a monstrous individual with a horrible past.

This book is already available (release date on Goodreads says November 30), the author sent out an email to her newsletter subscribers.

I was disappointed. We spent 3 books being told how he wanted Shelby and would do anything to have her.

There is a cave in and he saves Shelby's life. He, and her, and Collins (her ex-boyfriend) are all trapped together underground in a military facility.

So the book is filled with other man drama. And them trying to get out of the underground facility.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

They find a Lurker (the aliens who ruined Earth 1500 years ago) alive in the facility. They also find records and orbs that tell them humans experimented on snakes and Lurkers until they created the Nagas. They wanted to be able to use the Lurker technology.

Collins kills the Lurker but tries to kill Shelby. He gave himself the Lurker DNA and now he is a Naga. They think Collins is dead. But he is alive and wants revenge on the Captain, Peter, for making him trade the women to the Nagas and losing Shelby.

Shelby cannot have kids as she had a hysterectomy before she came to Earth. She had to prove she was a scientist and wouldn't have kids so they gave her eyes that can record everything.

Daisy has her kids, two boys who are part human and part Naga.

This book 3 was just very different from the first two books. Too much drama between the hero and Collins.

Book 4 is Death Adder. I don't understand how he gets a book since there are no other human women, there were only 3 women originally. The author says book 4 starts arc 2 of the series.

Okay, this series is getting GOOD. I’m loving all the world-building Naomi’s doing. There were so many new things we discovered about the Nagas in this book!

Shelby and Vagan were a bit of a mixed bag for me, but I definitely enjoyed their relationship. I liked their first interactions and how their relationship built on it. I didn’t like how Shelby lacked conviction when it came to what she wanted from both men.

I’m curious to see where Naomi takes the series from here. I liked how she left the story open-ended, and it’ll be interesting to see if we finally start exploring the universe outside of earth too.

Much more sci-fi romance than previous books

Vagan was an interesting character because he was introduced in such a horrible way in book 2. Shelby had her issues too. I wasn’t a big fan of bestie Collins from the get go, but I doubt that I was supposed to be.
I enjoyed the deep dive into history in this book and an increased understanding of dynamics between the nagas and the women.

Spice: 5/5

Triggers: stalking, murder, genocide (MCs see remains), dubcon exhibitionism, gore, violence

Shelby managers to escape being traded to the aliens for tech but the Blue Coral already craves her. When she gets in trouble two men come to her rescue. One she has know for a lifetime. The other might just change her life.

We get more of the world building in this book and I loved discovering the secrets.

Another awesome read.

MAN, I am loving these Nagas. They're more than a little feral and they get intensely obsessive (and possessive) about their special lady friends and I am SO enjoying their stories.

This time around, we have Vagan and Shelby. She wasn't one of the females chosen for the bride hunt (or whatever you want to call it) and she's in a weird place back in the compound. Mostly because she's trapped by a lie and she feels a whole lot of guilt for her part in Daisy's crash. The fact she doesn't realize Daisy survived said crash makes things even worse. Plus, there's the whole thing going on with the higher ups in the facility that she's NOT okay with.

As for Vagan, he's deeply obsessed with Shelby and he has been from his first glimpse of her. When things go south in the facility, he does what he needs to do to keep her safe. Ending up trapped in a sub-level of said facility with Shelby and the human male who wants to claim her has Vagan's possessive streak turned up to 11.

We get answers here, guys. Answers that lead to even more questions and HOO-BOY! is it fun. I'm still deeply smitten with this broken world (and the bits and pieces that aren't broken) AND the things that are being uncovered as we move deeper into the series. *thumbs up*

It took me a while to get to this book because Shelby hadn't made a great impression on me in the previous books as a side character. Paired that with my curiosity, I sort of spoiled myself a little bit by reading some of the negative reviews. So, in a way, I knew this book would disappoint me to some levels...

[The premise here is the same as the one from Viper (Book 1); Humans escaped Earth many centuries ago after the Lurkers started decimating them. Fifteen hundred years later, what remains of humanity sends a reconnaissance team on the planet to search for technology that might help them in their war against the Ketts. But they aren't alone...Snake-humanoid beings lurk in the shadow and they want to steal the human females. A trade between the men and the nagas is settled; the nagas will bring the technology the humans want, and the humans will offer the women of their crew.]

The story of this one intertwines with the previous books and a little bit after. Only the third woman, Shelby is exempted from the trade when she lies that she is pregnant. Her ex and now friend, Collins, on the base helped convince their superior to keep her safe inside. Although, after a few months, their superior is suspicious and requires Shelby to take pregnancy tests, and keeps her prisoner in a pit. One day, the whole base blows up and she ends up stuck underground but not alone...She is saved from the falling rocks and debris by Vagan, the blue coral male who wanted her since her arrival and had been lurking in the shadows waiting for a moment to snatch her up. She was supposed to be traded and he already considered her his. But after the explosion, they both realize that they are not the only ones stuck underground, but Collins too, and he still has feelings for Shelby.

He’s beautiful, this creature, and I know exactly who he is. “Vagan,” I utter his name. His jet-black pupils narrow when I say it, and his body drops a millimeter. I gasp as his chest presses to mine. Rocks shift around us.-Shelby

Shelby was the most frustrating heroine in this series yet. I found her selfish and indecisive, and never felt completely honest. Prior the events of this series, she got her eyes removed and replaced by bionical eyes that can record what she sees at will. It's a concept that was pretty cool and weird at the same time. Anyways, Shelby did end up getting some character development at the end. Not enough for me to like her but she seems more bearable now.

I gave up the ability to have children to prove to dozens of men in my field that I wasn’t going to run off with expensive and rare technology just to go into contract to have children.-Shelby (about her hysterectomy)

Vagan was probably the only character I really liked, except for the characters from past books that made an appearance. I liked how possessive and protective he was. Yet, even in his eagerness to be with Shelby, he remained respectful and caring. He listened to her wishes and didn't want his action to ever make her sad. In a way, he was very different from the other Nagas; Vruksha who was insanely possessive and demanding and Zaku who was overly protective and commanding. Vagan considered Shelby's feelings even when he instinctively wanted to hurt Collins for example. He really wanted her to see him like a male she could count on.

“You might have saved her life, but so did I. And I’m the one she has history with,” [Collins] warns.
He can have his history. I’ll take the rest. Shelby has a new home waiting for her.

The whole love triangle gave me Bella-Edward-Jacob vibes where Shelby was clearly attracted to Vagan and didn't have feelings for Collins but wanted Collins to remain by her side, be friends. Meanwhile, Vagan always felt on edge because he sensed Collins's interest for what was his. The dynamic got old quickly. I'm never a fan of love triangles and it was one of the reasons why I took so long to read this book. I didn't necessarily like Collins but I thought Shelby was very cruel to him, and not as honest with her lack of feelings for him. The sad thing is that I think she was aware but decided to ignore/avoid the problem. I wish she had been firm and rejected him completely. The fact she wasn't honest about her feelings for Vagan only gave Collins the sentiment that he could compete. Which in the end was disastrous. I won't spoil though.

Since the story intertwines with previous books, I would recommend to read them in orders, even if they are all considered standalone and have their own happy-for-now ending. I would've normally rated this book about 2.5 stars but decided to increase it to 3 stars. The reason being that we finally got more information on the origin of the Nagas and why they were on Earth after humans had left the planet many many centuries earlier. It was interesting and had great twists. I'm curious to see where the story goes from here.

🌸 ¡Hola lectores! (●’◡’●)ノ
Hoy les traigo una nueva reseña. Se trata de “Coral Azul” por Naomi Lucas.

¿Lo han leído? ¿Lo conocen?

𝐋𝐨 𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐝𝐫𝐚́𝐬 𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞
🔹 Tercer libro de la serie Las novias de los Nagas.
🔹 Romance de ciencia ficción
🔹 Nagas: mitad serpiente, mitad hombre
🔹 Posesivo y dominante
🔹 Escenas eróticas explicitas.
🔹 Dos POV’s
🔹 Narrado en primera persona

𝐎𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨́𝐧 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥

In regards to the romance aspect, if this was AITA my verdict would be ESH.

Honestly, more of a sci-fi/horror novel than an erotic monster romance. And I'm not upset about it, because genetic experimentation is way more interesting to me than Vagan and Shelby's "romance." The body modifications, insights into the continued culture of humans once Earth was lost to the Lurkers, the continuing storyline from the first two books about the 'naga' race and what they are had more depth to it in this third book for sure. I'd probably say it's more of a 3.5/5 stars, but I rounded up because I definitely enjoyed the expansion of the plot elements.

This book finally dropped SO MUCH LORE DAYUM. Totally makes up for the lack of lore/info in book two and then some. Also I CALLED IT. The fact that Lurkers smell like rotting Naga corpses?? And Vagan narrates that he's seen many "monsters" similar to them, but never whole like this one, always *wrong*, and even ones that could look like him?? Yeah I was right. Lurkers been mutating and mixing genes on the desolate planet. And then it's confirmed a while later with videos from the past that naga are experiments to combine Lurkers with Humans (using snake DNA) to be able to use Lurker tech. I CALLED that shit from moment one. I love being right. But I am wondering if the naga pheromones either don't work the way humans believe, or have evolved? Because the notes Shelby read said that they effected the female they wanted and *then* all other males disgusted her, but we see in both Gemma and Daisy's books that before ever meeting their mates/interacting with their pheromones, that other males' scents grossed them out, and they were drawn intrinsically to their mates. It reads a lot more like a fated mates kinda thing than a more scientific "first male that wants to fuck you" kinda way that the notes described, because otherwise the python would have sent Daisy into heat.

I'm so mad at Shelby for being a dick to Vagan over and over again when he's just trying to stay with her. She constantly denies how she feels about him and then blames him for shit (like having sex) when she starts it. I get she was trying to push him away to protect him but *Jesus* Christ Shelby. That was so cruel. I am SCREAMING at Vagan's "you forget. I don't care what happens to me" tho. Like FUCK YEAH BABES. GET YA GIRL.

Fuck Collins and I knew I didn't like him btw. Y'ALL BROKE UP. CONSENSUALLY. fuck that "you're my girl and I'm not gonna back off until you accept that" bullshit. She's not yours. You're a dick. I'm so glad he went cuckoo and got got. Even if it was temporary (which I am salty as FUCK about okay. I hate him). But like tf was that second epilogue? Did someone else inhabit his body? Why was he actually so different and suddenly so okay with Shelby being with Vagan? Tf? Although I can GET BEHIND my mans murdering peter. Fuck him. Peter hate acc. He's the worst.

My girl GEMMA THO. Our knight in shining armor, always popping up to be the calm and collected one for the ladies. Mom fried fr fr. God I adore her. I wish she got better then Vruksha 😒😒 but at least she tells him to shove it and that's he's an asshole. She may have terrible taste but at least she's self aware. I also love that Zaku just has to hear Daisy cry and is immediately stopping being an ass. Like my mans is WHIPPED. Dayum. Speaking of other snakes, I'm so intrigued by Krellix, like he's so calm and seemingly uninterested in the mate hunt, but also apparently lost everything when the humans arrived? I wanna know what's up with him, what makes him tick, and I have since book one. I hope he gets a book after Zhallaix and Azsote (who I know are next). I'm also SO HAPPY and soft that Shelby found a way to let the orbs keep her and the girls in contact. They need that companionship, and I'm glad they get to keep each other. Hopefully Vagan can mend things with Zaku and Daisy so they can be welcome and accepted into the lil family like Vruksha and Gemma. cause Daisy, Gemma and Shelby's relationship is so cute and wholesome and GOOD.

However, this book (and series as a whole) does have a lot of plot holes. Like how Shelby menstruates if she had a hysterectomy (Vagan mentions it), how 1500 year old guns still work perfectly, and how food from the same time is even still existing, let alone safe to consume. It also contradicts itself several times and it's pretty frustrating (like the menstruating thing, how the snakes pheromones work, Shelby and Collins relationship, etc). It also suffers a lot from small grammatical mistakes and errors that beg for a final edit.

All in all its a good series and it's definitely grown in interest and intrigue for me past Vruksha (who I hated) and Gemma's book. I loved the ending of this book, with Vagan smiling for the first time and them just being super domestic. It was so cute. And the epilogue had me snorting with laughter, Daisy telling Zaku to add his own skull to the pile outside and then Gemma just like "move bitch"-ing him and shoving him out of the way to get to Daisy? Pure fucking GOLD. I'm also so entertained and soft that Zaku knew he wasn't stopping this relationship and gave Shelby and Gemma free reign to come and go as they please. Besties fr fr, and them calling each other sister? Chef's kiss. Gemma deadass going "it's like Zaku gets a harem without even asking for it" and Zaku just, tired, being "I don't want a harem" has me. I love their friendship so much.

I will definitely keep reading, and I fucking love being right (although I can't remember a series whose big plot twist I didn't guess on the first installment lol). Will see y'all again with my opinions of Zhallaix (hopefully he stays as awesome as likeable as he is rn. Love me a equal rights bitch who refuses to stay dead).

I get that Shelby was desperate, but the girl was really selfish.

Ця книга сподобалась мені найменше через пару. Але величезний плюс - тут найкращий і найбільший розвиток сюжету, тому це рятує оцінку для цієї книги.

I guess I like snakes now.

Full disclosure, I DNFed the second book at 40% because Daisy and Zaku got on my nerves. I was in the dark about a couple of things but I had no trouble following along.

On to the lengthy review no one asked for.

I would like to firstly say that I enjoyed this book. This world is interesting, these books are well written and... what can I say, I guess I'm in the snake smut now. But as much as I liked this book there were a lot of things I really, REALLY didn't like. The fact that 70% is a trauma fest for our heroin plays a big part. More on that later. Let's talk about the beginning.

The way this book starts out had me hyped. I was so excited for a very different beginning for our hero and our heroine. I was looking forward to an easy romance in an action adventure sci-fi horror setting. And then Collins shows up. And doesn't leave. And you want to know what this book turns into? You guessed it, a love triangle. I just I didn't enjoy them as a teen in the early 2000s and I sure as hell didn't enjoy it here because honestly, it was pointless. We know Shelby is going to end up with Vagan. It's not a secret. Collins didn't have to be a love interest. He could have just been a big brother figure or platonic best friend. I think that would have made his relationship with Shelby stronger and made him a more dynamic character. I would have cared more about him. Because as it is, I didn't really care what happened to him, shocking as it is. And while we're talking about Collins, no spoilers, but...what in the actual f*ckery was that ending? I just...that's his storyline? Really? Because if so I am forced to once again ask why was he a love interest!? Because had he not been one, all of this would have made so much more sense. And those of you saying "but he needs love to push him to the edge", y'all clearly didn't grow up with big brothers. I just... I'm so tired and there's so much more to talk about. I swear I liked this book.

On to Vagan. I liked him a lot. I don't care that he hurt Daisy, I didn't like her so I thought good riddance. I like how observant and broody he is while still being possessive. I like how much he cares for Shelby and he's really smart and clever. He has the most character growth and introspection out of any of our heroes so far. He can stay.

As for Shelby...*sigh*. At the end of the day, I'm black, she's black, I'm going to stand by my monster loving sis. But dear Lord I don't believe in was she testin my last nerve. This baby nearly dies four times. Each time one of these fools has to save her. And shortly after being saved, she said she can take care of herself. Make it make sense mama! Oh and her being aware of alien culture and sensitive to it yet somehow still expecting Vagan to act like a human and understand the cultural norms of humans, even though he clearly isn't one, smh. Gemma didn't do that. The blonde one who kept running and screaming into the forest didn't do that. And you as a reader shouldn't do that either. Yes these men are alpha holes but they're also not human. Why we expect all sentient life to follow the same norms I will never understand. Thank you for coming to my TED talk but sit down because I'm still not done.

Now it sounds like I didn't like Shelby but that's not the case. (The only people I really didn't like were Daisy and her mate. They can eat dust. When they popped up I skimmed) I have issues with Shelby but I also understand her and her actions and reasoning because, minor spoiler alert, she spends more than half this book underground fighting for her life. The level of trauma this baby is put through. In the other books, yes the heroines don't come out unscathed but it tapers off. There are moments where they get to just sit and be and learn about their mate or make heart eyes or whatever you want to call it. Shelby and Vagan never really get that opportunity. Every moment is stolen, every moment is full of tension, every moment is this could be our last, we could die any minute. Does it make for a very exciting and compelling read, yes. But it doesn't develop the romance and that matters because at the end of the day this is still a romance. The I love yous at the end, I'm not sure how much I believe it. When did they fall for each other? I don't know. And I don't think fighting for your lives together, while another dude is around counts as falling for one another. Maybe you disagree.

Tl;dr despite all these problems, I still liked this book and I'm still looking forward to the next one. The first book is the best in my opinion but I liked Shelby and Vagan is my favorite Naga so far. I would go to his grotto. I'm claustrophobic and I don't like being wet but I'll sit on the shore and look cute. Four stars, it's a little generous but three is just too low for a series this imaginative and this exciting. Also corey. This book really ups the horror. Can't say I was mad.
