Scars

Rate this book
This collection of poetry is a raw and emotionally gripping tale told through a loose narrative style and imbued with Bell's passion and personality. It retains a beautiful and haunting style of composition in which we are given an unfettered look into the thought processes -however different than our own- of mental illness and the brutal honesty of it. The often lyrical style and lightness of the rhyme arrangements that juxtapose the weight of the concepts discussed within are powerful and unique among contemporary poems.

J. Bell Price is a scientist by day and a poet, novelist, and artist by night. She is an advocate for mental health and loves math, reading, writing, and of course, poetry of all kinds.

She has been writing since she was five years old and published her first book of poetry at seventeen entitled Scars Vol I. Since then many more have come including Growing Pains, Wild Hearts, The Force Between Stars, and many more are constantly in the works as she balances life as a student, writer, wife, friend, and more.

Bell enjoys traveling with her husband, hiking, drinking diet coke and reading science fiction and fantasy. Bell is a passionate fighter for her ideals and morals, sometimes to the chagrin of her loved ones, but her joy comes in equal measure.

I read this collection of poems while in a melancholy mood, and I found myself extremely surprised with the overall quality and mastery of each poem. The writer is clear and concise, light hearted but yet while dealing with serious subject matters, the content remains unpretentious, with no hint of superfluous wording to make ends meet. This excellent collection does more than tickle the ear and imagination, it tackles difficult subjects in a simplistic way that will surely resonate with the majority of readers. This is a great collection and I would like to read much, much more of this writers work. Bravo!

I have always been critical of my body, my worth and my capabilities and I know what it is to be at a constant fight with yourself means. The persistent and destructive voices of my head define my personality. And I cannot tell you how thankful I’m to have read your words Joan. Your poems and the words does not judge us for our thoughts but puts what it is to live like that quiet honestly. I deeply connected to the narrative. Her words honestly soothed both my soul and tongue. They brushed thorough my senses of touch, sight and smell. I’m still in awe. Still in wonder. It has been an utterly cathartic experience. Cannot wait to read more of her works.
Also, did you look at that cover?😍

No connection

I had trouble with feeling some of the poetry was too similar to some of the others in word usage. I just wasn't able to get into the book. Maybe it was me . All I can say is try it if you enjoy poetry perhaps you will relate to something in it where I didnt.
