The novel opens with Francia 'Fran' Gilbert heading to her grandmother's house in the country for some much needed peace and quiet. Not quite managing to find it, instead she is propelled into a world she could not have imagined. This exceptional story is set in the Perilous Lands and transitions between reality and fantasy cleanly. Each night Fran dreams of historical events of King Arthur and his Knights, particularly Lancelot. Fran is drawn in to the events surrounding Lancelot, not knowing if they are mere dreams or events from the renowned Knight's memory. The couple of surprises at the end were well rounded with a nice unexpected twist. I would recommend Mists In Time to anyone who enjoys a good whodunit blended with some historical events.

Prepare yourself for a real trip in time, back to the world of Arthur and all the legends. Your guide will be Fran as the author slowly reveals Fran's discoveries. An extremely well written story that brings in all the key events towards the end of Arthur's rein. It also adds a stop between the current world and his. Fran discovers that perhaps there is some truth to the legends. There is mystery to this story and not just the discoveries related to Arthur.

If you enjoy getting into fantasies, this one will really pull you in. Fran is you guide, stay close and pay attention! This is a great ride.

Love time travel!!

In general, I love time travel stories, and I found this one fitted quite nicely into the genre, but it did leave me wanting to know more!
Gilbert is on her way to her grandmother's cottage when she has an accident and is rescued by a stranger. What ensues is interesting, but I did find it all a little disjointed, especially as It appeared as if there were 2 or more stories, but they did resolve themselves into a good tale
I really hope there will be more!

The last thing Fran expected after her car accident was to wake up in 1940 in a place called Perilous Lands. She cannot wait to get back. Unfortunately, the mist that brought her there hasn't returned. Questions arise when strange things start happening to her. Why is she having recurring dreams about King Arthur's time? What dangers lurk on the estate? How does her grandmother's ring connect to everything?

Mists in Time has most of the elements that make a good historical mystery. While the time travel genre has often been explored in books, this one had a unique storyline. The vivid descriptions were enough to fuel my imagination, and there were times I felt like I was watching a movie right in front of me. Another thing I liked was that the story consisted of scenes over three different periods, the current year, 1940, and King Arthur's century.

While the characters were well-written, I found Fran annoying and childish at times. She was open to the idea of having travelled back in time and also her ring having some sort of power but, the thought that the withering state of the surroundings was directly related to Mr. Fisher's deteriorating health seemed ridiculous. Also, when people warn her of the dangers around, instead of biding her time and finding out about it, she decides to throw a tantrum and ends up in an area that is an ideal place to get murdered.

There was a little romance, but it could have been more fleshed out. It felt rushed. One minute she had broken up, the next minute she found one guy handsome, and then she liked another guy quickly which she termed as love. The author should have concentrated a little more on the emotional aspect.

The mystery unravelled quite well, but I wasn't very keen on the end. It felt like two different stories were merged together. Despite that, I can say I enjoyed the book and recommend it to readers who enjoy a good historical mystery with a hint of magic.

I enjoyed reading this book.

It is the story of Fran Gilbert who is thrown back in time to 1940 when the first world war has recently begun. She drives into a weird mist. Her car crashes and she ends up in a ditch. She suspects that her ex-boyfriend has cut her brakes to cause her to crash.

She is rescued and taken to Perilous Lands, a creepy mansion with a neglected look. Unbeknown to her, one of the caretakers there is a serial killer. Will she be his next victim, or will she eventually escape back through the mist to her own time?

Fran wears her grandmother's ring which appears to have mystical properties. Will this save her or cause her more problems?

This book got me back into reading fantasy. Until then, I couldn't find any current fantasy I wanted to read (too much of it being twisted or otherwise sickening), and so I re-read C.S. Lewis, George MacDonald, and classic fairy tale writers. This story's writing style is incredible, with not a word out of place, and its plot is unique, a blend of time travel, historical fiction, Arthurian legend, and mystery. A good time travel story is very difficult to write because the author has to maintain consistency within and between his or her fictional timelines, ensuring every action and event ties into the plot. Also, if the author explains why the time traveling is possible, that explanation has to make sense. I have a hard time finding a time travel story that has both consistency and a good explanation for how the time traveling works, and I have never seen a time travel story that so seamlessly combines fantasy with history, legend, and mystery, along with an extra depth of well-timed and well-placed quotes from sources such as C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. But Elizabeth Klein has succeeded at all of this in Mists in Time.

The book contains very action-oriented, suspenseful moments, but it also has calmer moments of conversation between the characters, and quiet reflection on the protagonist's part. There are great plot twists and epic moments. I wish I could more completely describe how the plot twists made me feel, but suffice it to say, they made me laugh with appreciation. I don't often find a book that makes me do that. Also, the villains die, which unfortunately doesn't seem to happen that often in books these day (although I've noticed innocent characters are killed very frequently).

I will let you know that initially, the Arthurian legends (delivered through a series of dreams the protagonist has) might look out of place, but you will quickly see where they tie in and why they are integral to both timelines. If you aren't familiar with King Arthur legends, don't worry. The author writes them in so well you don't have to know them to read and enjoy this story. There are also references to works by Agatha Christie that offer additional clues that may help you unravel one of the mysteries, and, like with the Arthurian legends, you don't have to be familiar with them before you read this story (although you may decide you want to read them!)

All of the characters in this book are well-written, especially Fran Gilbert, the protagonist. She is immediately sympathetic, and as she wakes up from a car crash (or attempted murder?) that occurred in the English countryside in 2021 only to find herself on an estate called the Perilous Lands in 1940, trapped in an England fighting WWII, she becomes even more of a heroine to root for. She is very lovable, doing what she can to help the other guests of the Perilous Lands. Her willingness to help their host, the mysterious Mr. Fisher, her courage, and her fight to survive 1940 and return to her own timeline (and the emotional struggle that comes with leaving) add greater dimension to her character, and make her even more lovable. Like me, you'll be hoping she makes it back to her home in 2021...and survives the danger she finds there. She is definitely one of my favorite characters. Jack is another one, and if you read the book, you'll understand why.

Some good characters in this book die, and some of the capture scenes are tense.

If you haven't been able to find recently-published fantasy that you want to read, try Elizabeth Klein's books, and start with Mists in Time. My review doesn't do it justice.
