I'm a private investigator, former Police officer, a writer, a family guy and a fan of crime and adventure fiction.

I grew up watching the TV private eye and cop shows of the 80's, rocking to the music of the 80's and reading classic crime and action stories-some of these were written in the 80's. Did I mention the 80's rocked?

I write as much as I can, but not nearly enough to get all my ideas down on the page. The problem is, time is never a friend for part-time authors.

If you're looking for a literary genius, you've come to the wrong place buddy. But if you're looking for an entertaining time, then hell, come on in...

I've very much enjoyed Angus McLean's previous books and was excited to read Behind Enemy Lines.

McLean transports us effortlessly to Cairo, 1942 where the book starts.
His well crafted and enjoyable main characters, New Zealander SAS Commando and slightly rough around the edges, Sergeant "Black Jack" Hastings and English upper-crust flying ace Frederick Balfour-Napier makes up an unlikely duo.

The two men are shoulder-tapped and forced to partner for a behind-enemy-lines suicide mission. The mission doesn't go as planned and when faced with disaster and betrayal, they pull together for the common good.

Behind Enemy Lies is a fast paced, well crafted, expertly researched, rollocking read with cracking dialogue, so buckle up!
I sincerely hope that McLean will continue this exciting WW2 theme and write a series. We need the next Hastings and Napier adventure!!

Behind Enemy Lines kept me engrossed throughout. The contrast between the two heroes - one a strong, no-nonsense New Zealander commando, the other an English 'toff' pilot is used to maximum effect. These two, thrown together to carry out a dare-devil rescue mission because of their individual skills must learn to overcome their prejudices and trust each other; their lives depend on it. Throw in a courageous female German spy for good measure and you have a rollicking, fast-paced, action-packed story. Highly recommended for those who enjoy this genre.

I admit, I do not read a great number of stories in the war genre and so my four-star review is really only to let the author know it is time for him to write another of his very good private investigator series.

I'm a boomer whose early adventure fiction included many World War 11 stories. Behind Enemy Lines took me back to the days when I would huddle over an action-packed book until it was finished; then I would ride to the library to get another.

Strong characters - an English toff and a rugged Kiwi - and a pacy plot kept me tapping on the Kindle for the next action scene. Most importantly in this genre, Angus McLean was able to make me visualize the drama unfolding. Behind Enemy Lines is perfect for readers who are fans of the television series Rogue Heroes. I'm looking forward to another Special Operations Executive Mission by this author.

A Ripping Ride from Cairo to Bavaria

First off, I hope there is a sequel to this rollicking action-packed thriller. It is an SOE mission without trained agents which makes this story different from others I've read. The main characters are an upper-class RAF pilot and a Kiwi SAS commando with absolutely nothing in common. I enjoyed the interplay between them as much as I enjoyed the adventure. Although this is strictly fiction, the SOE did pull off missions like this one throughout WWII making this a great read. I highly recommend it.

This page-turning WWII novel sees two SOE operatives face the near-impossible task of going behind enemy lines, to confront a traitor, recover a stolen plane and rescue a compromised agent. Full of tension and action, I loved the interplay between the two main characters, the upper-class English pilot and the rugged Kiwi SAS soldier. Looking forward to reading another SOE Mission!

High speed action all the way

Superb tale of bravery and a thrilling ending in a flight against the odds, and a friendship formed through a baptism of fire. A great read worth 5 big stars from me.
