I've been missing Shao Qun and Li Chengxiu a lot—even after I just finished this book just months ago—so I decided to reread it. Reading their whole journey all over again made me realize how brutal this one is. Shao Qun is a bastard through and through, and Li Chengxiu is a good person inside and out. I have not counted how many times my heart broke all over again for Li Chengxiu, and how much I've salivated for Shao Qun's wife crematorium arc which is deliciously half of the book!
But I guess love is really sweeter the second time around! I can't help but giggle and feel a sense of contentment just by reading the extras. I still believe the 2011 extras are satisfying. It's bittersweet and leaves a lot to the readers' imagination. But of course, I'm still very thankful with the succeeding extras! They're all so sweet and loveable. I just wish we had a glimpse of their second child! Zhengzheng would definitely have a blast. I just love Shao Qun and Li Chengxiu! I will die on this hill!
"It was just like at the beginning of their journey. Only that back then, Li Chengxiu sincerely worshiped Shao Qun and put him up on a pedestal. Now, he could finally stand next to Shao Qun on an equal footing. Li Chengxiu sincerely hoped that his life could go on like this."
I hope we could read more extras about them! I'm so happy for Li Chengxiu, that's my child!

.ᐟ December 2024 Review:
As much as I love gentle and green flag gongs, the scum ones are at a league of their own. Shao Qun proved himself to be the President of the 188 group. I believe his peak form is his pathetic self in his wife chasing arc.
Li Chengxiu is such a precious person, and I'm so glad he realized that relationships should have mutual respect. It pained me so hard to see him go through a lot but he definitely grew a lot too in the book. I know a lot of people disliked most of his actions and his decision at the end, but not me though. I'm glad for him to finally found his solace after years being beaten black and blue. And he went through so much just for that!
I don't support Shao Qun's past actions or whatever but it was so fun finally basking in his wife crematorium phase. It was literally half the book. And I consumed it like a champ. I kinda wished he groveled in atleast one chapter but I guess we can't be too greedy. He was a scum through and through. And he's going to make up for his mistakes to Li Chengxiu for the rest of his life!
I definitely loved the extras especially the 2015 to onwards because it's an absolute evidence of their love, and plus little Zhengzheng. But I'm still going to love it even if it ended on the 2011 extras. It's gonna be so sad leaving it on that note but that's what makes it endearing to me.
As long as Li Chengxiu is happy, I am at peace. I am honestly torned if how I am going to rate this book but it's not going lower, definitely. I just wish there's more pathetic Shao Qun chapters without other characters (like Xiao Ji—I like Xiao Ji, okay?!) as a relief or something, that's all.
I started reading Sissy to meet the president of the 188 group, whom I had heard was the scummiest gong of the group. I wanted to start with the worst of them before reading the rest and wondered if my hatred for him would surpass the intense hatred I felt for Qu Moyu from Alpha Predator. However, not even halfway through the novel, I was repulsed and disgusted by the gong instead of just feeling intense anger. He was undoubtedly the worst gong, a psychopathic and mentally unstable stalker who was obsessed with the shou. Even if he tried to redeem himself later on, I couldn't see it as redemption. I didn't think it was love anymore.
To be honest, the novel was initially written quite realistically, particularly the past and bullying parts. It was the author's first work, so the past wasn't well executed, and I found it too long. However, the things that happened in their past are a sad reality in life, even if they are not talked about much. The novel was so true to life that it reminded me of my own past experiences. I also learned life lessons while reading it, such as the importance of being kind to others because everyone has their own struggles in life. Life is never easy. Another lesson was to treat others how you want to be treated. One more lesson was about the company we keep. The people we surround ourselves with are a reflection of who we are. There are many quotes that could be applied to this toxic novel.
However, by the second half of the novel, it became less realistic. Suddenly, Shao Qun's assistant seemed to have experience working as a spy for the FBI, and he could locate them no matter where they were.
Overall, I do not recommend this novel, especially for the faint-hearted, as it contains many trigger warnings that may evoke negative emotions. You need to steel your heart for this novel. The shou's frustrations, repulsiveness, helplessness, and pain were too much to bear, even for me. It was too toxic, and I couldn't read it straight like how I usually read novels. Even by the end of the main story, I still couldn't see it as "love."

Update: it’s actually 3 stars after I read Additional Inheritance.
**********
I can understand why some readers dislike Sissy. The male lead is undeniably manipulative and toxic, and while I can’t excuse his behavior, I can understand his motivations. Initially, I thought his character was irredeemable, but in the second half of the book, he proved to be completely devoted to the main character. He stayed manipulative until the very end, but it was only because he was desperate to keep the person he loved by his side. Ultimately, they love each other, and as long as they’re happy together, that’s what matters. Overall, it was an engaging and interesting read, so I’d rate it 4 stars.
As a preamble I like to say that this is considered a dark romance and the high rating doesn't mean that I approve of the things that some of the characters, especially Shao Qun, did in this book. AS per usual, when I read books like this I'm not here to fight about the moral or the ethics of it all. You might think that it's stupid that I have to say this, but sometimes you'll be surprised just how many people decide to pick up dark romance and complain about it being problematic or even worse, fight those who enjoy it. If it's not for you, it's not for you, doesn't mean that other people can't enjoy it. It's not that complicated. Sometimes some dark romance don't work for me either because it's too violent / too romanticized, but I think when it comes to this things, it just depends on what you can / cannot tolerate in the fiction that you read. If you, however, decide to pick this book up and you're still unsure, I really recommend looking up the warning tags before diving in.
With that being said, I can now say that I enjoy this more than I did Additional Inheritance because the drama is just more juicy lol. This book follows a typical toxic yaoi structure. ML being insane, unhinged, and evil, treated MC like absolute fucking crap, then he realized that he loves MC and couldn't live without him, then he continues to grovel and beg for forgiveness, then they live happily ever after. It's not the first story that follows this structure and it won't be the last. Personally I really like the wife chasing crematorium trope and I feel like Shao Qun should've suffered more. Reading this I can't help but compare SQ to Luo Yi and my feeling towards AI & Sissy and why my reaction was so different when I read these two books. In my opinion Luo Yi is unhinged in a sociopathic kind of way, yet somehow he's more forgivable than SQ. What's SQ's excuse for behaving this way? He's not a sociopath, he can feel guilty and he knows when he does something wrong. He's a stupid bitch with anger management issue and he knows jack shit about consent and respecting other human beings. He's out of touch with reality and he never suffered a single day in his life hence why he has the tendency to belittle other people and their effort. That's why SQ piss me off more than Luo Yi did. LY despite lying to WXH and did the things that he did, never actually harmed WXH directly. His worst crime was scamming WXH and called him stupid and shallow. SQ's crimes, though? You can type them out and it'd fill an entire page and then some. He's controlling, abusive, a cheater, he's a dumb c*nt through and through. In the beginning of their relationship, it was mentioned several times that SQ literally saw LCX as a pet. AS A PET. This mf really pissed me off.
This is why the moment we enter the crematorium (this is the moment when SQ realized that he couldn't live without Li Cheng Xiu (LCX) and started suffering from his past bad deeds and start trying to make up for it) I started jumping up and down from joy. I like it when stupid people grovel and beg for forgiveness, I'm just a girl. I like that he groveled so much and suffered through multiple rejections from LCX. I like that none of the characters in this book condone his behavior and they all think that he's completely unhinged and crazy. If you wonder, if I think SQ is such a stupid bitch, then why do I give this book 5 stars? Because I'm a messy bitch. I like drama. I like melodramatic story and I'm eating this shit up like I'm no better than those aunties who watch their 100 episodes drama/telenovelas.
I love LCX as a character. LCX is the wholesome type, he's pure like a white lotus, he has no ulterior motive, he's naïve and literally just a baby who deserves better. He is such a gentle character the way that he takes care of those around him. Despite not having anything in his life, he would give everything he has to those he love. This quote I think explains him as a character better than I can: "He might not be able to provide a rich life for his family, but he would definitely spare no efforts to take care of his close ones. Even if he had to kneel on the ground, he would still take on this burden to protect others in his life." LCX is so kind and talented, he's a hard worker, he's so smart and gentle, what the hell did he do in his past life to get haunted by an evil spirit like SQ? WXH was so right when he said whoever ends up with SQ, that person is cursed for 8 lifetimes. The way that LCX treats Teacup, Li Shuo, Xiao Ji, Adrian, even SQ, he's such a caring person and he never gets angry with anyone. My baby girl deserves the world *crying emoji*.
Despite all the toxicity and angst, this book is still a romance novel. Through all the bullshit, we still get some sweetness here and there. I especially like that they communicate through their issues in the extras whenever they have any misunderstanding. I feel 'eh' about how they ended up together, because at the end of the day LCX just wasn't given the option to say no. He was basically annoyed to death by SQ. Poor guy.
I will be reading the other 188 group novels. I'm excited about Winner Takes All because I want to see how Li Shuo ends up. The fact that his opps are Luo Yi and SQ and he's still alive to this day is amazing LMAO.
WARNING plis, aprendan a leer: NON-CON, DUB-CON, ABUSOS, MANIPULACIÓN EMOCIONAL, HOMOFOBIA Y MÁS ABUSOS, EXCESOS DE SANGRE DE PERRO.
No tenía voz.
Mamá no te culpa, mamá te admira mucho. Mamá odia a Shao Qun por hacerte sufrir mucho.

水千丞 estoy adicta de estos escoria #188 army!
I'd give it 5 stars if Shao Qun has to suffer for 100 more episodes. This is too little. Fuck that asshole. Anyway, Li Chengxiu has done nothing wrong in his entire life ever. Anyone who says otherwise can meet me in a Denny's parking lot or Shao Qun's backyard.
TRIGGER WARNINGS: manipulation, dubcon/noncon, mental abuse, physical and sexual assaults, obsessed ML but not in a hot way, internalized homophobia, sexism, discrimination, kidnapping, stalking, burglary, gaslighting, abuse of power, classism, bullying, cheating, bunch of misogynistic and annoying men, blackmailing, angst
spoilers ✨
This is part of the 188 series so expect the usual trope—wife chasing in the crematorium. The gong, who is scummy, will break the shou’s heart and trust, then he will grovel, chase after their wife and will do anything to win back wifey’s heart, even doing the extreme measures to achieve it. It is full of emotional torture and painful stabbing in the heart. It is frustrating, angsty but it has a happy ending—if happy ending means shou is content and happy to be with his gong and no one is bothering them anymore.
SQ is a scumbag. I could tolerate his obsession and possessiveness but I hate him for being a cheater. Give me a toxic ML but never a cheater and someone who raises their hand at their wife and physically harms them. SQ is a selfish bastard. He keeps his arranged marriage a secret from LCX because he wants to keep him by his side like a favorite toy (according to him). He also sleeps with his fiancè while dating LCX the fvkng audacity. This man deserves thousand beatings from a kung fu master. He flaunts new lovers in front of LCX (who always looks hurt) to get a reaction from him but then he gets angry and loses his mind when LCX finally dates someone else. I wanna put him in a microwave oven especially when he was trying to convince (manipulate) LCX into thinking that nothing will ever change even if he gets married. He deserves a star in the wall of shame. Though I almost give a standing ovation when LCX clapped him by asking if he could get married as well. He was like, “you can marry someone else but I couldn’t? What do you take me for?” mf was left speechless.
The chasing arc is quite satisfying because SQ really grovels and looks pitiful while trying to win LCX back (and his efforts always going to waste, serves him right). He thinks a couple of sorrys and “I’ll treat you better this time” are enough to absolve him from all the terrible things he did to LCX, for all the humiliating and hurtful things he said to him. He took LCX’s love and loyalty for granted and treated him like a plaything who didn’t deserve respect. Now he’s crawling, begging, crying and yearning like a man who couldn’t live without his wife. I love how he thought LCX was naive, soft and would easily give in but he was wrong. LCX is none of those things. I love how LCX values himself despite his poor background and people always bullying and looking down on him. He’s got self-preservation and doesn’t let his emotions clouded his decisions. He finally get SQ to taste his own medicine. It took SQ a lot of mental and emotional suffering for him to finally realize how much of a scumbag he’s been and how much LCX means to him.
I feel bad for LCX. SQ has wronged him in every way even during their school days. SQ literally ruined young LCX’s life and his future. LCX became an orphan, had to quit school from too much bullying (caused by young SQ), lost his hearing ability in his left ear (also from bullying) and had to work his ass off to survive. He’s dirt poor, alone and has speech impediment as well. This beautiful man deserves all the good things in life and a better lover (he should have ended up with brother Li). There is also a feeling of hopelessness in his situation because there is a power dynamic involved in his relationship with SQ. LCX got no money to his name and SQ could easily harrass him and make his life miserable if he wanted to because LCX has no powerful person or family to protect and back him up from an obsessed and powerful heir like SQ. Good thing he met brother Li who protected and loved him, otherwise SQ would not stop blackmailing and harassing LCX. But then again, SQ never gave up. He must get his wife back no matter what and he could do it because he’s got money and influence. This is why between them, SQ will always have the upper hand and the one who has more control. LCX is literally at the bottom of the social hierarchy while SQ sits at the top.

"Shao Qun was like a cancer, which was spreading in his brain. The only way to avoid that pain and protect himself was to keep his brain completely blank."
I think this quote perfectly encapsulates the general feeling that the ML Shao Qun gives, and really helps in understanding the eventual ending we are given.
I went into this story knowing more or less what I was getting myself into (dog blood/scum ML/ supposed Happy Ending [for who is debatable]) and for that my most sincere rating for this story has to be 3/5.
Plot - The story is very entertaining in terms of never dragging out any one scene for too long. The plot being entertaining works hard to cover certain plot holes. This is the author's first work in the 188 series, so it's the first I read in order to judge the author's writing style. I think the story could benefit from extending certain scenes, especially because the shifts from one scene to the next felt somewhat awkward and abrupt, and a smooth transition would definitely bring more life to the writing. The abruptness of a lot of scenes makes any actual liveliness of the story feel a bit flat, and doesn't give the reader any time to sympathize too much with the scene's tone/mood. I will give lenience, since this is the author's first work, so I'm excited to see how the writing evolves with their next story.
Characters - MC - Li Chengxiu is a character that you can't help but feel sorry for. In his own words, "No matter how humble Li Chengxiu was, he still wanted to experience love based on mutual respect and admiration. If it wasn't possible, he would rather give up on the idea [...]." Despite all the bullshit he experiences at the hands of the scum ML, and the inevitable heartbreak of the reader, Chengxiu's eventual acceptance of the ML's "love" is not surprising. He just wants to be loved, have someone in his life when he's been alone for practically all of it, especially having to endure so much hardship and guilt that he's ruining the lives around him if he doesn't accept the ML's love, and so I find no fault with the decisions he's been forced to make. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean I can't be disappointed that things didn't turn out differently for him; the circumstances to his and the ML's unification were constantly out of his favor, and it wore him down. Chengxiu is written so beautifully, that his sincerity is relatable and tragic.
ML - I don't have much to say about Shao Qun - typical obsessive psycho who is enabled by everyone around him: his friends, his oldest sister, anyone who so much as interacts with him having to bow down to his childish demands. He needs to be thrown into a mental hospital instead of constantly being enabled. Definitely a product of his environment, especially when you consider how his own parents got together and what his upbringing was like.
The "wife-chasing" wasn't all too satisfying, which knocked the rating down for me. Anyways, entertaining horror novel 3/5
Sissy, the first book published in the 188 series.
I knew going into this that it was going to be a wife chasing the crematorium trope and I've read other books with this trope before so I was well prepared and not unfamiliar with it. Yes, Shao Qun is quite a scum gong And without reading the extras, it seems like Chengxiu just resigns himself to being with him but the extras show a happy ending so I'll take it. I do like that Chengxiu was really firm in his rejection after the incident and kept trying to start his life over. I also like that Shao Qun made himself really pathetic and he lost all his face and dignity in front of his family and friends for his (obsessive) love for Chengxiu. Definitely toxic but par for the course with this trope. I enjoyed it, although I didn't love it and I'll definitely continue the series!
Summary: Li Chengxiu's life got off course ever since he was bullied and dropped out of school and now he's a chef at a hotel hoping for a promotion. Chengxiu ends up meeting one of his school bullies, Shao Qun, who hires him for his party. Shao Qun confesses that he liked Chengxiu in school and love bombs him until Chengxiu moves in with him all the while just thinking of Chengxiu as a plaything that he'll eventually get tired of. Shao Qun gets more controlling as time goes on and eventually really fucks up and Chengxiu breaks up with him and wants nothing to with him. Shao Qun realizes he was in love with him all along and chases Chengxiu, begs for a second chance and does crazy shit to get him back.
INHALES. EXHALES. First of all, this novel is 100/10 very toxic and f**k Shao Qun I HATE HIM SO MUCH. He is a bastard, selfish, violent, hot-tempered guy who only thinks about his convenience and does not care about others. (Not sorry) he deserve to get the worst ending. He's the scummiest character I've ever met. Seriously that man need to sit bare ass on the electric chair. The bullying, abuse, stalking, violence, cheating, no consent and other immoral things he did—he is an abuser who doesn't deserve to be happy. Li Chengxiu, the mc, not gonna lie he is such a dumbass but the poor guy had no way out. Conclusion: I don't like the ending and thanks to this novel I'm emotionally and mentally drained.

Non official english title: Sissy (also known as Niang Niang Qiang). Lenght: 78 chapters + 5 extras.
Can't believe it's been two years since the first time I read this and it is still on my mind, I reread parts of it countless times to this day which is incredible because I don't usually go back to any book. I never wrote a review for this one despite how big of an impact it had on me but since I just finished Additional Inheritance (part of the 188 universe), I feel obliged to do it. No other book I've read so far has made me feel literal chills.
The story follows Li Chengxiu, a poor and timid guy who has been on his own since he was young. He's had a very difficult life. One day, he reunites with someone from his past, a very rich and powerful CEO. Said person is Shao Qun, his first love, both meeting for the first time since highschool. Li Chengxiu doesn't want anything to do with him after what happened in his younger years and tries to avoid him, but Shao Qun isn't someone that has ever accepted a rejection, so he won't allow Li Chengxiu to turn away from him.
The novel is a well constructed depiction of an . I actually think it is one of the very few books where its effects aren't brushed off but explored deeply and their presence is maintained through the entire course. It feels real, because as such cases in real life, it is not easy to get free from it, especially for someone with very little power. The author does a great job at adding elements that reflect modern society.
About the characters, Li Chengxiu is one of my most beloved MCs ever. Despite what some people think, I consider that he is one of the best written SQC's characters. He starts off as a highschooler suffering from bullying due to his appearance and personality. He looks femenine, cries frequently, isn't interested in girls and has a speech problem, which makes his classmates gang up agaisnt him as he is the "weak one". However, he is everything but that. He is caring, kind, attentive and protective of his love ones, to the point of sacrificing himself in order to avoid them from getting hurt.
It makes me angry to see some people call LCX stupid and whiny. In reality, he is very resiliant and despite not being the type to fight back, he learns to always stand up again and to try his best to life in peace. Unfortuntaly, he also believes people don't have bad intentions, one of his fatal flaws. Here enters Shao Qun, who is basically every bad word used to describe someone. I don't really want to elaborate on him because he is a piece of shit period, no explanation needed lol.
One strong element I really enjoyed from this novel is the exploration of a high power imbalance. Shao Qun and Li Chengxiu live in different worlds. While one is sat in the highest pedestal, the other is at the very bottom. Shao Qun comes from a powerful family, while Li Chengxiu doesn't have any support until much later, and even that isn't enough to fight back. Shao Qun is also very rich and privileged, but Li Chengxiu never had financial estability and the little he had is taken away as well. It is devastating to see the differences clashing and declare a clear winner.
The ending wraps it up in an expected but . The extras tell a different angle though and the one thing that left me . It is bittersweet.
