The Villain's Duet #1

The Villain's Captive

For years, I watched her. Drank her in as she performed in front of an empty theatre, pretending every seat was occupied, the cello settled between her legs as her dainty fingers made love to the strings…one beautiful note after the other.

She thought she was alone, that no one heard her play. But I did. I heard every note, every tune, every vibrato. It drowned out the voices. Silenced the demons. It gave me peace. I’d hide in the shadows so I could get high on the music that stemmed from her soul. It was entrancing. Beautiful. Utterly hypnotic.

She has no idea that I exist—that I live for the nights she performs for me, and me alone. But she will. Soon she’ll realize how important she is to me.

5 𝓭𝓪𝓻𝓴 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓭𝓮𝓵𝓲𝓬𝓲𝓸𝓾𝓼 𝓼𝓽𝓪𝓻𝓼!!

Wow, this book was something... packed with action, twists, steam and so much passion. Man, it oozed with passion!! So unique and captivating. Bella J took me on a wonderful ride... straight into darkness. It truly is hard to find the right words to adequately sing the praises of this book. One of the best books I've read this year!!

Elijah was 𝑬𝑽𝑬𝑹𝒀𝑻𝑯𝑰𝑵𝑮 you would want in your anti hero. He is mysterious, he is passionate, he is ruthless, he is so damn 𝐇𝐎𝐓! After watching Charlotte for many years, he knew he couldn't give her up. He knew he shouldn't need to want her, but she quiets all the other noise around him. She brought out something in him that he thought died so long ago.

Charlotte was oblivious to the obsession that was so close, yet far away. She had no idea that she was in someone's crosshairs. She was just trying to live her life the best she could. It was tough, but she was no quitter. She was strong and brave. She finds peace and stillness while she plays her cello. Alone in the dark, on the stage in that empty room she is able to find her true self. Everything else fades into the darkness around her.

She isn't the only one who finds solace in her tune. Someone else craves the peace only she can give. He has always watched her, enjoying her while she soared away on the notes she played.

He needs his little cellist. One way or the other, she will be his.

Gosh, this book was breathtaking, yet so gritty and thrilling. I can't wait to dive into book 2!!!

THE VILLAIN'S CAPTIVE, a mafia dark romance, is live on Kindle Unlimited!!

Here's a sneak peek!

Elijah. My body craving his touch as if it had always known him.
Was this what insanity felt like? The voices tearing you apart, ripping you in two—your body and mind at war with each other?
His touch was hot, his presence heavy, and the longer I lingered within this high, the harder I would fall once I came down.

If you've read this trope once, you're read it hundreds of times. Nothing new or unique here.

-Shy, poor, naive heroine thats locked in her bedroom the entire book
-Rich, abusive, 'obsessed' hero that marches in and out of her room at will.
- Bait and switch writing so you THINK the MC's are about to get it on but then it just ends for no real reason other than 'we cant do this.'

On top of this, the writing was just bad. Overly flowery. Every chapter ended with:
"The man who demanded i play for him.... The man that *took me*." 😱😱😱😱😱😱 Like yeah i get it.

But to top it off, you had the heroine ask "Why me?" a couple dozen times. GURLLLL is this 2014!?!?! Did we suddenly jump back in time where every book had a 'pick me girl' heroine who didnt know why she was worthy of the hero's attention? Bestie I'm sorry to tell you this, we dont stan this behavior in 2021.

Safety:
No cheating, no OW/Om drama, no other people after meeting
H doesn’t appear to be a man whore
h not a virgin (only had one experience prior)
Hero stalked heroine for 3 years and there was no mention if he was with other people during that time.
Hero kidnaps heroine for her grandpa that she doesnt know about
Hero uses some physical abuse on heroine (choking)
Ends on a cliffhanger that you’ll NEVER guess. (jk the heroine is about to be kidnapped by someone else. What else is new)

so, this is more of a 3.75 stars rather than anything above 4.0...

Why?

Simply because I couldn't feel this primal need the anti-hero so thoroughly expresses towards the heroine.
It's was quite undefined for me, it was presented and described BUT I didn't "feel" it as vividly and impulsive as it should have been...from everything that was written, that is.

I loved/love Bella J's writing, she's amazingly talented and thus my point across has a huge impact.

I KNOW she CAN and KNOWS HOW to PRESENT the "feeling" across the pages, I know cause she did it many times before, in her previous works, so...I expected it here as well...

BUT as the case often proves, it can also be the famous case of "it's-me-and-not-you"...so, it is what it is...and moving on...

p.s.
Bella, damn, I also misread or simply missed out on the fact that this has sequels...LMAO, again...
*facepalm*

Heroine : Charlotte

Pace of the story : Moderate

Angst Rating : 5/10

Heat Rating : 7/10

Triggers Involved : Kidnapping

Plot Summary :
Charlotte lives a pretty plain life. The only bright thing is playing cello. She is a queen in that. Things turn bad when she is kidnapped by Elijah aka the musician. All he wants is for her to play Cello for him.

But why did he kidnap her? What are his intentions? Charlotte has so many questions and Elijah is not willing to give her answers. His darkness calls out to her and she can't help but be attracted to the secretive man. If only she knew the secrets he was hiding. That would change everything.

Bella J. Is definitely my jam. The woman writes the best dark romances that give me thrill and love all at once. Her heroes are the best and Elijah is one of them. I absolutely loved him so much.

Charlotte and Elijah have an amazing tale that will hook you and won't let you go until the very end. I would definitely recommend this one to all the dark romance lovers out there. There is no way you will not love Elijah!

OMFG she does it again!! This author is a twisted sinister Queen! I love her work on a normal day but this book blew me away.

**Reader-made teaser. I acknowledge the copyrights of the photographers who own these images.

*Author's Blurb...
For years, I watched her. Drank her in as she performed in front of an empty theatre, pretending every seat was occupied, the cello settled between her legs as her dainty fingers made love to the strings…one beautiful note after the other.

**Author made teaser..

The relationship between Charolette and Elijah is explosive. It felt natural. I know this sounds crazy in a situation like this but the growth of their chemistry felt like it should. I’m super excited to see what happens in the next book.

Elijah is sexy and obsessive and totally crazy. I would love an “observer” like him!! Charolette is beautiful and caring. These two make music together.

I can not get enough of the breadcrumbs this author leaves us. Going from past to present is one of my all time favorite things in books. What I love the most is the mystery and the twisted shit she puts in those breadcrumbs. I was not putting this book down once I started.

Get ready for a wild ride of psychopaths, stalkers, sex, lies, secrets and so much more.

**I beta read this book voluntary and in return gave my honest review.** ~Melissa J

This was my first read by Bella J. and I am not disappointed! You think you know where the story is going but I promise you’ll be wrong. Elijah is a notorious hit man, The Musician, and the only thing that calms him down is his obsession, Charlotte & her cello. He takes her captive but not everything is as it seems.

I really enjoyed this! I love how Elijah and Charlotte were connected and even though this was fast paced, it didn’t feel insta at all. I just wish this was longer. I wanted more time with Elijah. The writing sucked me in right away and I’m dying to get my hands on book two!

First of all, what a cliffhanger! smh, I thought this is an STA, I'm so wrong. Secondly, look at that man on the book cover isn't he a hottie, This cover is everything.

Anyways enough said, onto my review:

The books start at a slow pace, to build the tension and atmospheric story arc. Our hero - Elijah has been "observing" our heroine Charlotte for over 3 years for an unknown reason but later on will be revealed once the story progresses. Elijah is known as "The Musician" because of his remorseful killing ways. As for our little cellist, she's just this normal orphan girl who has an incredible talent for playing the cello, which also the main reason why Elijah gravitate to her because it's the power of music that can only calm him down whenever those demons from his past resurfaced.

I like how the author characterises these two, they're different but somehow similar. For sure Elijah has an ulterior motive at the beginning of the story but obsession wins. As for our heroine, I dunno yet there are times her actions come out as annoying to me, I dunno perhaps it's just me. I was not on board with her disposition, though I'm intrigued by her for the next book.

As for the storyline execution as I said before it's kind of medium-burn and writing style-wise I truly like it, she managed to counterbalance everything from the suspenseful, dark aspect down to the story core. Therefore I very much enjoyed reading the book and I can't wait to see what will happen to the next one.

Such a good start!

I thought I knew what I was getting into with The Musician, but after reading Bella J, I really should know better by now. The Musician is a guessing game all the way through, even to the very last word. Just when you think Elijah has given you a guess at what he is and what he there for when it comes to Charlotte guess again.

Elijah and Charlotte are two great characters. Elijah is a hard one to get a handle on. He has a dark and seems disturbing past that we are just getting a glimpse of. And Charlotte is a sweet girl that is suffering from death and seems some health issues. But they are together for the foreseeable future in a complex relationship.

I can not wait for the next book. The cliffhanger is keeping us guessing and I have questions!

This story was so unexpected and I absolutely loved it.
A young cellist, Charlotte, who plays beautifully but never in front of a crowd, is being observed by Elijah, a hitman, who goes by the moniker of The Musican.
Eventually Elijah must take his protection of this young woman to new heights, and forcibly captures her.
I thought this book was captivating and well written. The story has been told before but Bella J's unique and complex characters kept me riveted until the end.

Dark, passionate and full of suspense!!!

I have said this before...and I will say it again...Craving for DARK Romance? Always go for Author J 's books...they are filled with darkness, passion, suspense and full of feels.

Elijah was unlike any character I have ever read from a dark Romance book... He feels so much and the scenes with his past brings tears to my eyes. He is a product of what life has served him. I love the natural connection I felt between him and Charlotte. It was instant yet felt so much developed and passionate.
Another positive side is the plotline of the story...yeah, no guesses allowed her...if you made the mistake like me...you will be falling on your backside with that ending...

First Saint then Gian and Now, Ellijah...my list of book boyfriends are totally getting longer and longer...
Charlotte was so easy to love...her sassy backtalk and her strong and brave attitude in her kidnapped situation was admiring...loved her so much...
The ending left me with a gaping mouth...I know..I know...after reading do many books by Author J...I should be getting used to this...but this was a shocker...you cannot be prepared for what's in store for you in this book...
I am dying to know what will happen next...need book 2 now!!🤞❤🔥

Elijah is full on. He sees and wants Charlotte. He has been watching her and learning about her from the side.

This will definitely be one of my favourite reads this year. I had so many feels while reading this that it will stay with me for a long time. I can’t wait to read more.

A melodic darkness that'll consume you in its obsession. That's what The Musician or Mr. Elijah Mariano is as a man.
This book is just something else with the tone being dark and yet weirdly soothing.
First of though, can I just say HOW FREAKING GORGEOUS THAT COVER IS & AFTER READING THE BOOK SAY THAT THE GUY ON THE COVER GIVES THE PERFECT FEELS FOR ELIJAH.

OH MY. How do you describe a man as mysterious as Mr. Elijah Mariano is.
The prologue itself gave me the chills and a glimpse into the man himself. That he kills with a finesse and has a deep soul connection to music. But it's not until later while reading his flashbacks that we really get to know the real man that's now known as The Musician.
Charlotte on the other hand is a simple girl trying to live her life as day comes. She lives on meagre terms but music or rather playing the cello is her life. Her dreams, her goals, her everything is that cello which she plays quietly on the stage when no one is there.
There's no connection between these two except when Charlotte played she wasn't alone but becoming an obsession of a very dangerous man.
My heart went out for Charlotte. For a girl who's lost so much and being passionate about something and yet being tyed hand is difficult. But yet again life throws her another curveball, the most testing of them all & she has no idea how she's gonna get out of this.
But there's something about Elijah, he's magnetizing even in his darkness and the love for music binds two poles apart souls together.
Especially when you go through the flashbacks of Elijah, one gets to the inner workings of his mind and why he is the way he is.
I loved the flashbacks. They were painful & difficult but open up the heart of the Real Man that is the Musician.
" THE OBSERVER " WAS TURNING INTO THE OBSESSED FOR" HIS LITTLE CELLIST" BUT I AS READER WAS FALLING FOR THE MASTER, THE MUSICIAN.
AND THE FREAKING TWISTS & TURNS. I COULD NEVER HAVE ANTICIPATED HOW IT ALL CONNECTS.
But just like Charlotte I was taking in all the revelations then OHHHHH NOOOOOO.... THAT ENDING HAD ME LIKE... WHATTT?????? 😳😳😳😳.
Wow. What a freaking unexpected, full of surprises this ride was. Can't wait for book 2.
Love Elijah. I can't help it. I'm IN LOVE WITH HIS DARKNESS YET CALM PERSONALITY. Elijah is 🔥🔥💋💋😍😍.

I picked this up after seeing someone talking about it on my bookstagram feed and I was intrigued. A hitman obsessed with a cello player? I was so happy I caved to my curiosity.

Instantly I fell into Elijah's world and I was so captivated and intrigued by him. He walks that anti-hero line so well and I followed him down that hole. One word to describe him is passionate. He has two passions in his life, his profession and classical music. He loves music to the point of obsession which leads to his obsession for Charlotte. Charlotte is the cello player he has been secretly watching for years. Her laying is the only thing that quiets him, keeps him centered and he wants to make to make her his.

Charlotte doesn't have the most ideal life. Alone and working two jobs, all she wants to do is play her cello. Those times she plays alone on stage is when she can truly be herself. But that talent, that peace, may be in jeopardy as well. I loved Charlotte. She is the kind of heroine I like which is strong yet vulnerable. She doesn't just take orders and she questions everything. I love that she's discovering the darker side of her personality with the mysterious Elijah. I felt like they just matched well.

Overall it was a great start to the series which by the way, I had no idea it was a series and only figured it out after reading the cliffhanger which opens a world of possibilities as to where this can lead. I for one cannot wait to see where it goes.

"Wow, that is my first Bella J story and I am not disappointed. This is a story is emotional and dark. For Elijah, it's a job. Charlotte lives her life in the dark even only choosing to play her cello for herself. Music speaks to all souls, and Charlotte's melodies calm Elijah as her body draws him closer. This story unfolds stanza-to-stanza as we readers are invited to slowly see the motivations of the musician and the backstories. Charlotte is a valuable pawn caught in a cyclone not of her making. As we watch Charlotte and Elijah fall in love, another play changes to board. This story does end on a cliffhanger and I cannot wait to see how it all turns out.

""The deep yet soft sound reached inside my chest, allowing me to feel it— to feel the music that escaped my heart only to echo off the strings and create the most beautiful melody that had the power to make souls weep. Even the cruelest and wickedest couldn’t resist the seduction of music.""~Charlotte"

An erotic, mysterious, gripping story of a tortured, tormented man who calls himself The Musician and a timid, girl who's life is all of the sudden turned upside down. The story is told alternating with sprinkling of the past. The story of Charlotte is a sad one, at times feeling so sorry for her but I wished it elaborated more about her past and more about her obsession with the cello.
The Musician is a hard man. A man without emotion but given his childhood we know why he is what he is. Loved how he has fallen so hard for Charlotte and will do anything to protect her. The Musician has been "observing" Charlotte for years and the reason is a woa!! The story keeps you so intrigued, its hard to put it down.
It ends in a cliffhanger, can't wait for the next book!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 STARS

This is the first book by Bella J. that I’ve read and it definitely won’t be the last. I was intrigued by the synopsis, so I decided to dive right in. Charlotte and Elijah’s story runs deep, beyond what you initially think until you learn just how far their stories intertwine. I can’t wait for the next book to see what happens especially with the cliffhanger we’re left with. The Musician by Bella J. is an EPIC read that will join the ranks of the BIBLIO-ARISTOCRACY!!!

Another astounding book by Bella J. This is the story of The Musician, a man who needs the music to calm him. An atrocious childhood made him the man he is today. The woman he follows for years gives him the calmness he needs through her music. The book will capture you from the first page and leave you gasping page after page. I love the books Bella J writes and hopes she never stops writing these storylines. She can weave an unbelievable tale of pain and anguish and keep you on the edge page after page.

🌙𝒜 𝒽𝒾𝓉 𝓂𝒶𝓃. 𝒜 𝒞𝑒𝓁𝓁𝒾𝓈𝓉. 𝒜 𝓈𝓉𝒶𝓁𝓀𝑒𝓇. 𝒜 𝓂𝓎𝓈𝓉𝑒𝓇𝓎.🌙

What happens when you combine these intense subjects? You get a dark romance filled with
thrills and twists- such as the Musician by Bella j.

Bella j. has been my one of my fav authors from the time I read the rise of saint and each and
every work of her has left me excited and invested in the story and the characters.
Same with the latest book The Musician- it follows the story of Charlotte a shy cellist afraid of
public eye and Elijah a hit man with his unique and weird use of music.

Right from the beginning, the story is fast paced and almost no filler making it easy to read and
connect with the MCs.
There is also mystery that slowly unveils far ahead in the story, and it intrigues the reader to
seek the answers as to who? Or what?
We are shown 1 aspect why the musician is stalking Charlotte but soon twists come up throwing
Charlotte in a world she had no idea of and breaking her glass cage of previous life.
If you are familiar with Bella j. And her works, she writes some of the hottest, dirtiest talking
hero & Elijah is another proof of that.
The steam, tension in this book is high and by now you know I love a filthy, dirty man.
It does end with a cliffhanger but the story makes for a definite read irrespective of it.
