Amazon Best Seller Compassionate leadership isn’t about being nice; when practiced effectively, it’s a strong leadership style that can elevate your spirits and profits. Compassionate leaders are not weak. They are tough leaders who understand that they can be good to their people and deliver stronger results. In fact, taking care of your people actually leads to better results. In his new book, Donato Tramuto―recognized CEO, business leader, innovator, and philanthropist,―makes the case that compassion is a key leadership principle that
Compassionate leadership is empathy with actions. Decency wins!
It's a good read. Very simple to read/fast read. No charts or graphs or accounting statements to sift through. Just good writing with a caring heart. Obviously, this book is written for leaders (new and old will benefit). However, I think that normal workers, or people without a job will also be benefited. It goes over how to build a strong relationship, make meaningful human connections - something that’s applicable to everyone.
The author goes over actionable items on what makes a compassionate leader. That this is the only style that would work now and in the future. No longer do leaders need to be the "must-know-it-all." The workforce is shifting toward leaders who “learn-it-all” from collaboration and giving respect to their team members. There are mini exercises at the end of each chapter addressing the reader’s current habits/beliefs and how those would help or hurt the growth of their team. There are so many messages/interviews from current leaders from different industries and what it means to them to be compassionate leaders. Trust is another important value to build a strong team. That leaders EARN trust and not to expect trust given to them automatically simply because they are in a leadership role.
One thing that I'd say about this book is there are repeating messages/lessons for some chapters and that they should be condensed to one chapter.
I have learned many good things from this book and been reminded that kindness and caring will improve your and other people’s productivity, creativity and overall happiness. We don’t have to be like family (never a good idea!), but it doesn’t mean we don’t have our humanness when we are at work. Leaders who make real lasting impacts - whether it be for better higher profit or social change, are the ones who respect their team members through collaboration and compassion.
This is a book that all supervisors should read and take to heart. Advocating that a compassionate leader is one who creates a culture of trust by listening, showing empathy toward employees and understanding what makes employees happy. That employees working in such a culture feel valued, are happier and therefore more productive. The author interviewed hundreds of leaders, collected data and provides examples of "modern" leadership in action and the difference it can make in almost any industry. The book seems a little repetitive, but has a great deal to offer a manager.
Essential reading for anyone who’s looking to be the best team player they can be, anyone interested in becoming a better colleague, leader, and person. There are many real world stories of people who stepped up to solve complex human problems through compassionate leadership. Whether you’re in the C-Suite or brand new to your team, whether you’re leading a team or just trying to make the most positive impact you can. Highly recommend
