I stood at death's door and knocked, thinking that being taken by the Grim Reaper was the only way to escape the cruel monster that was coming back for me, intent on finishing what he started a year ago.
What opened the door wasn't Death, but it was close enough. What is a broken girl to do when the Devil himself opens the door she's been knocking on?
Unfortunately, the choice isn't mine anymore. When you call out into the void, you can't control what answers back.
L U C A S
Death was coming for her, but I intercepted.
She was trying to escape a monster from her past, only to find the Devil of her future.
She's mine now, and I won't ever let her go.
And the monster she's been running from? He's about to find something far more deadly in his way.
Monster, meet the Devil.

The Devil and I is a dark erotic romance that contains disturbing content - please read the trigger warning at the start of the book.

This book is on the dark side. Don’t expect a flowery book that masks the horrible reality many women face when they’ve been assaulted. There are triggers in this book…
Rayna was r@p€d, brutally, a year before. In chapter 1, she attempts suicide, finding it hard to continue living with the emotional scars that she continues battling every day. This is a hard chapter; she didn’t want to continue living in a world where people around her didn’t believe in her and where the man that caused her pain was threatening her again. Luckily, Lucas was nearby and was able to save her.
Lucas, a Police Officer during the day and a righteous balancer of evil at night, hears her cries and rescues her before it’s too late. He takes her to his home, heals her, and vows to avenge her❤️. Of course, Rayna finds it incredibly hard to believe that this man, this angel, treats her like fine China and worships her feet when she’s never experienced that before. But Lucas is no angel; well, he considers himself a devil, but others might think he’s really an angel in disguise- depending on their perspective. He’ll do whatever it takes to protect her and make her feel safe. No one will hurt her anymore, and he will always be there for her. His protectiveness knows no bounds 🥰.
The chemistry was 🔥🥵. Sure- this is insta-love, but you know what? I don’t even care. For a debut novel, Kay does a stupendous job at building the tension between the MCs. Lucas wants Rayna to feel pleasure, to experience what it’s like to really be intimate with someone, and oh em gee is it STEAMY 😅💦🥵🔥!!! Jeeezus, for a novella ish, this sure packs a punch in the heat department!! And Lucas is ALL about HER pleasure 🤤😉😅. Shoot, even during the CNC and primal scenes (my fave 🤤), he cares about any bruises she might get 🥰. Because she had been a virgin before her assault, she didn’t know how beautiful, sexy, passionate, raw, primal, and meaningful sex could be. Gahhh!!! Loved it.
Highly recommend this book!
⚠️Safety squad⚠️ (mild spoilers ahead) - no cheating/owd/omd -on page suicide attempt in chapter 1 -r@p€ flashback- it happened a year before but the h remembers it in the book -the H drugs/assaults two men, one is the r@p!$t -the H graphically kills/tortures the h’s r@p!$t
I was actually really impressed with this especially considering it’s a debut I’m looking forward to seeing how this author progresses going forward. This was novella length but did feel fleshed out this focused on the two main characters Lucas and Rayna but I didn’t feel that was a minus either.
It was very instalove and lust which can sometimes be an issue for me but it didn’t bother me here it just made it all seem that more intense. There are triggers here to do with rape and suicide and Rayna starts off very fragile. Lucas is her rescuer but he definitely has a dark side one that he usually keeps hidden only bringing him out to play when he finds a worthy target. Rayna’s situation brings forth all his protective and obsessive regard and he wants to slay her dragons literally.
This was hot and touching and had just the right amount of bad to draw me in. Lucas is an absolute beast in the sack and Rayna is equally as enthralled with him as he is with her. It was beautifully written and I really enjoyed this one a lot.
2 stars While I didn't find errors I had a few problems with this. First problem was stilted language. The use of contractions would have made the story flow better and added realism to the story. But my second problem was my biggest issue and what caused me to dnf at about 65%
Boring. It is mostly both mc's thoughts, which tended to be repetitive and very little action.
I couldn't take the repetitive thoughts and lack of action anymore so I dnf'd.
*I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review*
Wow! This book was a crazy ride and I really enjoyed it all the way through.
First off there are TW for attempted suicide, depiction of a previous rape, and some bloody kills.
The Devil and I is about Lucas, who is a cop and a vigilante serial killer. He murders pedophiles and domestic abusers who have escaped the law or there isn't enough to hold them. He is look forward to taking a vacation and when he is on a run, he finds a young woman in the woods who has just tried to kill herself. (See above trigger warning). He is immediately struck by her beauty and the sad picture she makes really pulls him in. He bandages her wounds and takes her to his home to heal.
Rayna awakens in the arms of this huge, sexy, man and doesn't even have time to question anything. He is hear to take care of her and make her his. Things escalate and these two become joined at the hip.
I don't want to say anymore, but I want to tell you some things I loved: This book has caretaking to the next level. It has an Alpha psychopathy who finds a mate. It has a curvy, sweet woman who has had a serious trauma and just wants to die but finds love in a very unconventional sense. And it was steamy as hell!! Woah!
This was a major case of insta-love and insta-lust, but it fit these two. I really believed it all and I was rooting for them right away. Lucas is SO tender towards her and so gentle. Until he's not... haha, but only in the bedroom.
A few things about the writing: There were some odd phrasing choices and a bit of over explaining in certain areas, but I was overall very impressed with this as a debut novel. I just want to make you all aware that I did notice those things, the story just swept me away and I didn't mind.
This is also around novella length and I can't wait to see what this author does as she grows and expands her craft.
I had a really great time with this couple and this story of finding your person where you least expect it. Rayna got a second chance at life when she was ready to give up, and it was very powerful.

This is a dark romance not for the faint of heart! The beginning is gut-wrenching in a beautifully horrific way, and I loved the way that the author managed to convey the extreme distress of someone who’s gone through what the heroine has gone through. This book could have been one of my favourites, but unfortunately the plot was a tad too straightforward. Once rescued from herself, the heroine doesn’t have many obstacles to face. I was expecting lots of drama with the villain, but there weren’t any surprises or much suspense to the story. I also would have liked to have more backstory for the (anti)hero, because he was such a fascinating character. Despite having POV scenes from him, his background and motivations still feel like a big question mark. All in all, this was an entertaining (albeit disturbing), fairly short read, and I’m glad that I checked it out! POPSUGAR Reading Challenge 2022: This book fulfills the "Two books set in twin towns, aka "sister cities" (1)" category. It’s set in Toronto, and the other book I read is set in Chicago.
Readers who enjoyed Amusement by Albany Walker would like this one.
When you find the one that gives you a breath of life, you cling to it.
In this particular story, it goes both ways. Lucas has found the one that he would kill for - Rayna ended up finding the one she would live for.
We are the sum of our experiences but we must not allow our experiences to consume us.
Life molds you and you have to roll with the punches.
The opening pulls you in. I hit a slight lull after that but the later half picked up again, dragging you back into its poetic prose and revealing a story of an imperfect love that was perfect for them.
*the title threw me a little off, but it doesn't detract from the story
*4.5 stars rounded to 5. I rank this book light grey on my darkness scale.*
The h forgets really quick that she tried to kill herself because she was raped and just jumps on the guy big fat c*ck! *inserteyeroll*
Is a farelly short book and apart from the sex there's no connection development, so everything happen really fast and out of nowhere! The guy claim to be the devil but I didn't get it!
O.M.G. You WANT to read this book. If you like strong men, brats, hot lines and situations...you need this book. The emotions put into it are so strong, you can literally feel what the characters are feeling. You can sense their emotions, as if they were your own. I laughed, I cried, I sat in front of my fan through the steamy parts. This book completely blew my mind, and had me aching for more.
This was a short quick read that I really wanted to rate higher. This book was really slow and the male MC Lucas talked about being a devil and a serial killer, but was only one killing scene in the book. Lucas Black is a police officer/psychopath is out jogging when he comes across a girl in the woods who has slid her wrist. Rayna gets a note from the man who raped her and decides to end it all. I also had a problem with the fact that she was a sexual assault survivor but she jumps right into a sexual relationship with Lucas who she doesn't know and since that he is dangerous. I also had a problem with the fact that he trusted her with his secrets so fast. This book was a total Insta love. This was this authors first book it was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.
The moment I held her soft, broken body in my arms, I knew I was fucked beyond salvation. It was like she completed a ritual by way of blood, one that summoned the devil within me and bound me to her.
Steamy, dark & erotic. Makes your toes curl and your core set on fire at all the right moments. When the devil meets and angel, sparks ignite! Must read!
For the author's debut book, I would say good job. It is a good short read if that is what you are looking for.
I read this book because it was chosen by my book club. Normally I would not buy a book this short. You just do not have the time to develop the characters or the story enough to make it something "living". I did read it, and it wasn't bad, but sex, tattoos and a large dick doesn't make a story or characters you want to keep reading because you are invested in as if they were real and you knew then and felt their emotions. I hope her next book will keep that in mind, and that she doesn't just write to make money, but to bring her readers stories and characters that they love.
This book had a lot of promise to it but for me it didn't deliver. I liked it but didn't love it, I wish it was longer because I didn't get the connection to the characters that I so enjoy. I did feel bad at the beginning with the way things were unfolding with Rayna it was really a shock right out of the gate but then that was it. I didn't feel much chemistry between Rayna and Lucas although there were plenty of sexy scenes.
If you enjoy Dark Erotic Romances I would suggest you give this one a try, it has a lot of four and five star reviews so you may like it more than I did.
This was a really nice quick read. Psychopathic murderous man who day walks as a cop, find the h, whose a rape victim and on her last moments of life in the woods as she bleeds out from a suicide attempt. He instantly is hooked and BAM- he’s obsessed and his dark monster inside is ready to burn the world to make it right for her.
The things: -Instalove -Obsessive H with possessive talking -H is a cop by day and a murderous psycho at night. I LOVE a murdery man who only has a soft spot for his lady. That’s our guy here. -H is a caretaker! I mean, he takes care of her. Feeds her, cooks for her, carries her around, lays her in the bed, puts her in his shirts. It’s so cute! It’s daddy-ish without the Daddy kink. + + -H handles the business 👏🏼👏🏼 once she tells him of the rape, he’s all over it. Who is dude, where is he? Why? BC he is gonna handle this for his lady. I LOVVVEEEE this! She doesn’t even know until after and her home with some blood splatter on his face. -the h. She’s a rape victim who is going to her fav little woodsy trails at twilight to off herself bc she can’t handle her rapist coming back for more (he threatens this) -h is naive (rape was her first time) and sweet and kinda broken in her self esteem and such. BUT kinda thought it was weird that even though her rape was her first sexual experience she’s all like yessss H let’s DO It… 😑🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ but hey, that’s Instalove right.
-some things were a bit off for me -I felt it could’ve been longer bc the ending felt rushed but overall was good and the ending was kinky and hot lol.
For a debut novel, this wasn't bad. It was a quick, short read.
I didn't buy into Rayna and Lucas's relationship. I mean this girl is raped and still upset and depressed about it, so much so she's literally trying to kill herself. But then Lucas shows up and it's instant love and let's have all the sex. For both of them. Yeah, I'm not buying it.
Lucas being a cop/psychopath/serial killer was something I didn't buy into either. Something just didn't come through for me. He had his possessive moments which is fine because I love alpha males, but I didn't see why he's the devil. Is it because he has killed people? I needed more to his background than we got.
And maybe that's the crux of it for me. This book was less than 150 pages and I usually steer clear from these types of books (this was a BOTM read for a group I'm in). I need a connection with the characters and I haven't found many authors that can bring that well when it's a short book. Not to mention 60-70% of this book was talking about his "big dick" or them having sex or him going down on her. I need more in my books than this.
I would give another book by the author a shot. The writing wasn't bad, I just didn't buy into the story.
Rayna is desperate, so she tries to commit suicide in Sunnybrook Park, she wants to die peaceful, surround by trees. She was raped, and Mark won't leave her alone. Alone, the only escape she sees, is to die.
Lucas, is a police officer, but he also has a dark side. He was at the Park that night, and he saves Rayna. Takes her to his house. Swears to protect her.
It's a bloody, spicy story, with a lot of triggers.
OMG. I AM OBSSESSED WITH THIS BOOK!!! I LOVED LUCAS AND RAYNA SO MUCH TOGETHER 😭😭😭 PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST JP HEROES IVE EVER READ CANT WAIT FOR KAY'S NEW BOOK!!!!
Rayna is a woman at the end of her ropes. She’s had horrible things happen to her and she has absolutely no support system to make it through life. When an old threat makes himself known, Rayna is pushed into complete despair. Deciding to end her life, she goes to her favorite park with a razor blade in hand.
Lucas is a police officer with a very dark secret- he considers himself a psychopath, killing those that have earned it. One night Lucas is on a run in the park when he hears Rayna’s voice and comes across her unconscious body. Deciding that he needs to save the beautiful woman in front of him, he takes Rayna to his home where he helps her heal- both from her attempted suicide, and emotionally.
I could really relate to Rayna’s character. I know the feeling of utter hopelessness, when ending things is so much more alluring than trying to make it one more day. I cared for Rayna and all I wanted in this story was for Lucas to make everything ok. I was not disappointed. Looking forward to reading more by this author!
Luca was a cop by day and a serial killing murderer by night. When he takes a run in the woods he stumbles upon a girl who has slit her wrist. What does a cop / killer do when this happens? He takes her home with him of course.
Lucas was obsessed with Rayna immediately so very much instant love. He was seriously jealous and very possessive over her.
Rayna was psychologically damaged by being raped. It was a little uncomfortable for me that they liked to role play like he was forcing himself on her but asking around I found this is a way for survivors to take their control back.
I loved that Lucas was willing to kill for Rayna. Rayna accepted his darkness and didn't try to change him. He was a psychopath but loved her more than anything. She was the only one that he was soft with which I loved.
This is a great read, not a long book but long enough that the relationship was well developed. I would recommend this story to anyone who likes heroes who are gory killers and jealous and possessive at the same time.
Highly recommend it J/P Twisted Triggers warnings for sure Dark read This was recommended to me by a friend her words were you need to read this book now!! So I did. After a date gone wrong resulting in rayna getting brutally rapped she then receives a note it sets her course of action and after attempting to kill herself her devil in shining armour finds her!! He soon learns what happened to her and decides he wants revenge brutally!! I devoured this book I didn’t want to put it down it’s a real page Turner and very well written
This book was a crazy steamy ride of fun. There are triggers of attempted suicide, murder and violence in this book.
In this story you meet Lucas Black who is a cop and a serial killer. He ends up finding a woman in the park named Rayna who is attempting to commit suicide because she was raped by a guy. Lucas finds her and bandages her back up and takes her back to his place. Lucas ends up falling for Rayna as he is taking care of her. Rayna ends up falling for Lucas as well. The relationship between Lucas and Rayna is romantic and sweet. The way he is with Rayna is incredible. Even though you shouldn’t like Lucasin the book you end up liking him as a hero.
I liked this book because of Lucas and who he was. I liked this story and I am glad I read this.
Don’t know what it says about me that I thoroughly enjoyed this but… it was very satisfying. This was very dark on many levels… but damn incredibly sexy to me.
I really enjoyed this story. It is a fast burn but I live how devoted Lucas was to Rayna from the get go. Their passion and his protectiveness was great. I want a man like Lucas!!
It had some really powerful messages about loving yourself and being true to who you are and knowing that mental health issues do not define you, they just make it necessary for you to be a strong as you can be and to not let the blackness overcome you.
Starts with interest. I thought the “bad guy” that hurt the heroine was going to be the love interest, but instead the other “devil” was the hero. Fine ok. But it was so wordy with a lot of inner monologue and rumination that I had to pause this story. Also, I could predict how it would unfold.
This book makes me want a Devil of my own! 😈 Instalove with a dash of disbelief and a whole lot of hotness all mixed together makes for a very nice debut!
As an avid reader of dark romance, I do have a special affinity for alphahole Hs…BUT there is absolutely nothing better than sweet, dark anti-H who would burn down to the world to protect or avenge his woman. Lucas is the epitome of this kind of anti-hero.
The heat level in this is off the charts too. They almost immediately fall into a CNC dynamic and Lucas dirty talk had my heart racing. She’s sort of his captive but she’s a willing captive. This is such an amazing first book from this author. Fast burn, a bit instalove-y in a good way, story 5/5, spice 5/5, this book does have big triggers, consensual non consent, no condoms, no cheating HEA and epilogue.
Short read but soo good. This is a debut novel and I enjoyed it so much! Mind you, it has some triggers so be aware of that but personally I think nothing too overbearing or unnecessary. Can't wait to read from this author again!
