Four sexy vampires. One mortal-born witch. An ancient secret that will test them all.
Activating a thousand-year-old curse sounds exactly like something I’d do. I’m not a very good witch, being a mortal and all, I’m not even supposed to have these powers.
Or am I?
When the four vampires I awakened stake their claim—ha, see what I did there?—they pose as the hottest mentors I’ve ever had to make sure I pass my initiation into the Royal Covens.
They're supposed to teach me how to hide what I really am: a reincarnation of some ancient and powerful witch. Although, I think they're just telling me that to get in my pants.
What my vampires don't hide is their hunger for me, both for my blood and my body. That dangerous kind of thrill is going to get me into serious trouble.

DNF - quit at 45%. By the point I quit the book, I was bored & had totally lost interest. This moved to slow, contributing to my loss of interest. The world building was not very good either, I had no idea of where this started at, I felt like maybe I missed a prequel or something.
At my age, life is to short & my time to important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.
As a human born witch there’s only so much Evelyn can do in the world. She’s lucky enough to have been taken in by her aunt after the death of her parents. Evelyn is barely recognized by her ‘coven’ and has her hopes set on passing her initiation. Learning she’s actually the reincarnation of a super old and powerful witch of course sets all her plans up in flames. Personally I struggled with remaining focused during this book. It starts fairly sedately with Evelyn traipsing around in the cemetery but not soon after having of vision of the guys the entire book is thrown into a blender and a wormhole. The story moved so fast I did rewind my audio a few times and I still feel behind and like I missed stuff. Just so odd how Evelyn just accepts the past all so quick. Even her bond with the guys is something she dives into wholeheartedly rather quickly and it’s taking me time to catch up. This also made the ending come out of nowhere which was annoying after so many little bomb drops and revelations. Hopefully the next one will slow down a bit and let me catch up lol
For some reason I can just not get into or fully follow this story. Everything continues to move fast and once again the end is so abrupt it’s jarring. I can’t even guesstimate at this point how many guys she has or whose who and that’s kinda unfortunate. Not everyone is getting their time to shine and it’s making it that much harder to stay focused on this convoluted story. Selena continues to be the big threat and with only one book left it’s time someone takes her out. Time for history to stop repeating itself with Evelyn’s life and loves being used as pawns to keep this b*tch alive and young for centuries.
I had seen this book on Amazon a few times but avoided it because someone had given it a very low rating and that rating was the only one. However, someone on one of my Facebook groups recommended the series, explaining that the first book wasn’t brilliant but the series improved with each book. As the blurb had always intrigued me I decided to give it a go.
I’m pleased I did. The book was a solid start to a new series. It’s not perfect by any means, hence the star rating, but I can see the potential for much more.
The book revolves around Evelyn a mortal born witch who has been raised by a coven after the death of her parents when she was very young. Her coven wasn’t the most welcoming of places to a mortal born witch, but they did look after her when she was alone, and for that she is grateful.
Close to coming of age and undergoing initiation into the Royal Covens, of which her coven is one, things are going to start to change for Evelyn. She is worried that if she attracts too much attention she will be in danger because not everyone approves of her getting a chance to be accepted into the coven and gaining access to the magic she is only able to borrow as a mortal.
When an incident forces her into a vision, she latches on to the four Warlock Vampires she sees in that vision and their magic. Using the magic to anchor and protect herself she releases the Warlock Vampires from their own trapped state, not realising their fate is tied together.
I really liked the writing style, which was fluid and relaxed. Evelyn is an interesting character and has been through a lot. Her life in the coven hasn’t been easy, but she has done her best and been supported by Cassidy, her best friend and a servant/slave in the coven, and Sparkle her familiar. She doesn’t think like the born witches, which makes her unusual in her world and more accessible to the reader.
Evelyn’s relationships with the four Warlock Vampires is interesting and each relationship is different from the others. It’s not just the characters that are different it’s the way they relate to Evelyn and the way she reacts to them that differs. I like that it’s not all smooth sailing as she learns about each one.
Though the premise for the story is great the plot isn’t fully realised for the reader. The author makes quite a few big leaps that aren’t fully explained to the reader as the story moves along. They are explained later in the book but not especially clearly. The jumps just feel like the author forgot that the reader didn’t know the whole plot, as there are no hints about what is going on, there is just a great big hole.
It’s a shame that the structure of the book isn’t more fleshed out because there is great promise in the book. The characters are great, the writing style is good, and the story line is interesting, it’s just annoying that the reader is confused, and not in a good way, through some significant chunks in the book. However, if you can cope with being confused for around 15% of the book, you will enjoy it!
I will be reading the rest of the series because if the series gets better, as I’ve been lead to believe, it will be a good fun read.
The storyline is definitely interesting but I'm also kind of confused. I'm not sure how she completely remembers her bond mates from her previous life, then she doesn't remember anything. She is a mortal born witch that doesn't really understand magic because she never had any of her own, then shes pulling out these miracle spells. It's just VERY inconsistent. I will read book 3 though.
On s’y perdrait. J’espère que le tome suivant permettra d’éclaircir tout ça.
This book didn't give me the wowed factor that I was looking for.. in other words it was okay. I'm not to excited to read the next book in this series unfortunately... maybe later if I feel it in my spirit to do so... so for now I'm going to find something else that will hopefully be better than this was...
Magic takes over from the first chapter. I was lost in this story of Evie and her protectors. Unfolding the mystery of how she is bonded to them and already familiar to them. Her true identity has been revealed and now the fight for her life starts. Time to start the next book😊
Evie is a mortal witch. She wasnt born one. She was taken in by her coven when she was a child. Things are a bit foggy about that but she's always just believed what her Aunt told her. A twist of fate and she's drawn into a vision and in order to get back and survive was to bond to the pillars aka the vey hot Warlock Vampires she was seeing in the vision. From there things get really interesting. Things arent what they seem and she needs training for her initiation into the coven where she'll receive her powers. Then she finds out she's a reincarnation of a very powerful witch. Whats the worse that can happen?
First book in a series is important. It sets the tone for the whole series. You have to have a good plot, characters, and the flow has to work. Thats how you draw your readers in. Its gotta go BOOM. That didnt happen for me in this book. I felt left behind on details and we were expected to know them. Book moved fairly quickly but the book needs more fleshing out. For instance, I wanted to know more about initiation and it was glossed over. I wanted to know the history of it and exactly whats going to happen. We didnt get that. I wanted more information on all the covens including hers. All we know about her is her real parents were killed when she was little but the details are hazy but we might get more information about that in later books. Evie was pretty accepting of her guardians and things progressed quickly with them. This wasnt a huge deal but worth mentioning. I thought the bonding would be a tad slower. I sort of expected a little more shoving between Evie and her vampires but it was simple and easy. World building hardly existed here. I was confused by the dynamics in when people are born witches or mortals and how they define where they go into the world. Is this a supernatural world and humans are just part of it? Is it mortals and them? I know about Evie's situation but what about others? I'll definitely be reading the next book. This was good and it does keep me curious but its not without issues.
**Four sexy vampires. One mortal-born witch. An ancient secret that will test them all.**
I'm not a very good witch. It's not my fault. Being born a mortal sucks and my black cat familiar follows me around like a security blanket. All the other coven brats make fun of me.
My vampires don't seem to mind. They pose as my mentors and get Aunt Sandra off my back. My initiation into the Royal Covens is only three days away. They're supposed to teach me how to hide what I really am: a reincarnation of some ancient and powerful witch. I think they're just telling me that to get in my pants.
What my vampires don't hide is their hunger for me, both for my blood and my body. That dangerous kind of thrill is going to get me into serious trouble.

All books are in the same world with each series following a new character
This book has a great idea but I feel it wasn't executed very well. There were a lot of characters who weren't consistent and a lot of stuff wasn't well research. Although magic in fiction can be whatever you want, there wasn't enough put in to catch my interest. There were only three or four flowers/herbs mentioned when plants were supposed to be big in getting energy, and the blood magic was inconsistent in that everyone used blood but then someone was considered a rare blood witch. Then she used runes, which is cool, but never named a rune, and never described a rune, and didn't explain what the runes were. This made me lose interest as there didn't seem to be much research or world-building. Also slicing large sections is getting old in fiction in general, even if you can heal fast. It is unnecessary for blood magic and would be very, very messy.
I did like the vampires and the idea that they are her guardians was pretty cool. I just wished I could find out more about them, and wished they weren't quite as resistant in helping her when they are supposed to be her guardians. The grammar and writing was done well and it was easy to read. Recommend for people wanting a different take on the vampire x witch genre.
ONE FLIPPING AMAZING ADVENTURE!!! Wow! Talk about waters ten feet high and rising. Oh yeah, Thorn brought magic with this little guy leaves you reeling and wanting more. She can spin it with a realism thats captivated and breathtaking. She pours it on when she created this strong storyline with such a dynamic plot and perfect balance with the characters bringing them alive right before your eyes. When the sparks start to fly, best watch for flames. The personalities are well matched and brought together smoothly. The scenes were so vividly detailed it paints a majestic backdrop that feels so realistic it's like you're right there in middle of ground zero with them. Throw in some twists and turn and a few bumps and bruises as you watch the world light up. Amazing job Thorn, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
From page 1 it gripped me, as Evie is a great character: strong, independent, self-aware, not gullible, doesn’t care what anyone thinks, good values … and a trouble magnet. Enter a bunch of hot vampires, conspiracy, power plays and a dangerous initiation and you get one wild ride.
5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book does have a cliffhanger, but it’s no biggie since the complete trilogy is available. I strongly suggest just buying or borrowing the complete set—you’ll understand as you get into it.
What an awesome story! I am so loving this story! I need to know what happens next! I love all the magic and secrets and sexy characters oh my. Haha. This is the first book of this series and after reading it non stop I can honestly say it’s definitely worth reading. You will be just as anxious for the next book like me! I don’t like to post spoilers always best to read it for yourself and find out what happens. Highly recommend this!
I love this book. Evelyn is an amazing character and her vamps are hot and very hot for her in every way. This story is a nail biting adventure with twists and turns that will have you on the edge of your seat the whole time. It's very vivid on its details and sucks you in making you feel like part of the story. The way the FMC and the guys interact is amazing like they compliment each other in the most perfect ways. I absolutely recommend this book.
Wow if your are looking for a hanging of the edge of your seat awesome. This is it. Evelyn is loner. She sticks to herself in her coven. She is in for a heck of a ride. Can she make it or lose everything while trying? With sexy vampire's, warlocks and other surprises what more could you want?
This book is pretty interesting but the cliffhanger has me feeling kind of meh since Eve is powerful but was easily subdued. Other than that I thought the book was well written and interesting! I enjoyed how she interacts with her men....and Bast not sure if he’s one of the men but he’s a ancient Egyptian god so.... lol
Evie is a mortal born witch, who awakens four vampirian warlocks. She is a reborn ancient Fate witch. Suposidly she has great powers, but hasn't received all of them yet from her gaurdians. She goes to her witch initiation ball and is defeated and thrown in the dungeons by a witch who killed her in one of her last lives.
I have loved J. R. Thorn's books and this series is right up there with them. Being a witch can be a great thing but if you were born a mortal then it's not so great. But finding out that you now have 4 vampire guardians can be great but is that all they want to be is Guardians to her. This is a great book and even better is that it's a series it means more J.R. Thorn to read.
Totally didn’t see that coming. If this is just the first book, I can only imagine what is going to happen in the next! This is going to be quite the wild ride I can already tell. I definitely need more of Killian and Aaron that’s for sure. Though Bast was quite unexpected.
She just keeps collecting them! This book is fun and intriguing but I hope the number stops here. Excited to start the next book. Can’t wait to find out what happens.
Ce deuxième tome est plus intéressant. On en découvre plus sur l'histoire d'Évelyn et c'est bien amené. Certains points auraient quand même mérité d'être plus détaillé sur le pourquoi du comment.
I'm really confused with this entire book. I'm not sure what was going on half the time, everything was extremely rushed and I don't know what the point/ plot of the story was. There wasn't a rhyme or reason for anything any of the characters did, why was there a blood bond? What's with that prophecy? Idk the whole thing just ended up frustrating me to no end.
Usually I love a lot of world building but this story simultaneously had too much and not enough. There was so much magic, portals, creatures and slaves. All of this was mentioned but very little was explained. Why were there slaves? How did it come to be? Are they born into servitude? When did demon wolves start? Who first mentioned this prophecy we keep hearing about? Why did the warlocks turn into vampires originally? I need answers! If you want me to just go along with stuff you need to have already established principals. You can't add new stuff and not explain it.
There are multiple points where our MC says she's mortal born but then does things that don't make sense. And they come out of no where. Not a hint of it before and suddenly she's teleporting and compelling a full fledged vampire that wants to rip her head off.
"There’s a hint of vampiric magic in your eyes. You drained enough power to compel Quinn.”
“Compel him?” I could use compulsion? Seriously?
“You must have sensed something was missing and you wanted to fix him. It’s okay. He’ll thank you, once he snaps out of it.”
Where is this magic coming from? Then they go back and forth on telling her why.
I was tired of this. “If you know so much about me, then why not just tell me?”
“You have to survive the initiation, first, and you can’t tell a secret you don’t know. The Royal Covens don’t need to know what you are, not yet, and neither do you.”
But 15 pages later they are giving her bits and pieces
“I don’t understand.”
“Have you ever heard of reincarnation?” Marcus asked, finally seeming to grow the courage to look at me. I tilted my head.
“Of course.” When he didn’t elaborate, I asked, “Are you suggesting that the woman Aaron was referring to was me?”
“That’s precisely what I’m suggesting,” Marcus said. The light from the flames danced across the graceful lines of his face. "You are no doubt the reincarnation of the Royal Queen.” He smirked. “You earned a name for yourself near the end. Those opposed to your rightful rule called you the Rebel Queen.”
Like you literally were just saying she can't know about this stuff yet but you're telling her anyway? Make up your mind! The entire book is like that.
Hooo-kaaaay, this book was ri-fuckin'-diculous to start with. There's absolutely no buildup for the relationships that happen. It's all based on the fact that the FMC is reincarnated. Like that's just supposed to make all the sense and make it totally okay that she fucks 2 dudes she randomly meets only a couple days after meeting them. And that 2 more are waiting in the wings to be added to the list. Also an Ancient Egyptian cat-god may be in the mix.
Nevermind that they're all thousand year old vamps which are supposedly hella dangerous and... illegal?
But they're hot, though. So who needs a plot, amirite?
I feel like a teenager wrote this--somebody who doesn't know how proper story-lines work.
It's just an excuse to write smut (and it's not even great smut).
But whatever, at least this is a hella fast read and it's easy to digest listening to the audiobook while I clean my house.
I am scared. Legitimately scared of where this series is going. And yet, I'm going to finish this trilogy.
Why?
I don't honestly know.
Crack is bad for you, but it's fucking addicting, innit? I suppose this series is like that.
Evie is a mortal witch. She wasnt born one. She was taken in by her coven when she was a child. He parents are dead, or so she was told, things are a bit foggy about that but she's always just believed what her Aunt told her. Just another normal day for her one moment, the next, she bonds to 4 delicious warlock turned vampires, and breaks the curse they were in. The present themselves as her guardians for her upcoming witch initiation... but things aren't what they seem, she's already been through this before...
I'm looking forward to the second and third book, I've seen the reviews that the books get better.
I feel as though I've missed a prequel to this series. So much has been skipped over as if the author assumes we know what's going on. The world building also lacked. I think the first books is the most important because it sets the scene, and this one missed the mark.
I did however like the concept of the book, and will push through to the second and third book, because it has great potential and I love the idea of the storyline.
Such a great book! It has a plot and character development, it's not only about the sexy part of it. As a matter of fact, I thought that with 4 soulmates things would escalate quickly, but they aren't... and I love it! Because we can appreciate the story as a whole. We can see how Evie struggles with being the kind of witch she is. We can see how the bonds between her and her mentors are created and how they grow with time. And we also have the surprise element with ''Sparkles'', that makes me think she will have 5 soulmates instead of 4, making things more interesting. The ending is such a cliffhanger! I need to buy the next book!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Evie, a mortal born witch, who truly has no interaction with other witches because she is mortal. She happens to be drawing in the cemetery when she inadvertently releases 4 men who are Vampires/warlocks. They knew her in the past and vowed to protect her when she was murdered. I won’t spoil the rest of the book for you but I will say this book was beautifully written and I loved it sooo much I finished it in a day. Highly recommend you read this book if you like reverse harems!
