He’s been shot -- with an anti-shifter serum -- that turns him into a homicidal monster. And . . . She’s the one who made it . . .
Zakerek’s entire life was ripped away in a single moment. While he was on a mission to rescue captive shifters from a lab, one of the scientists shot him with a bolt carrying an experimental shifter toxin. Now there’s an uncontrollable beast inside him, warring with his dragon -- one that’s triggered by the presence of other shifters.
Alone on earth, hiding from humans and shifters alike, his one mission is to find Madeleine Fox, the biochemist who created the toxin. His plan is hold her captive until she reverses what she did to him, and then -- flame her to ashes and devour her bones.
Maddie Fox’s life work has been to isolate the “virus” that turns people into animals, and eradicate it -- but not before she figures out how to harness the creatures’ accelerated healing -- to save her brother’s life.
When she found out her mentor, Eric Chisholm, was planning to sell their research for his own sinister purposes -- and that he himself was a shifter -- she stole the data and disappeared. But just when she’s about to get the proof she needs to turn him in, the impossible happens -- she’s abducted by a fire-breathing dragon -- who demands that she “fix” him . . .
But when Zakerek’s serum-induced delirium ignites a night of passion with Maddie, everything they both thought was true begins to crumble around them -- and so do the walls around their emotions.
Can two sworn enemies change their minds and open their hearts, before Chisholm destroys them -- and everyone they care about?
Yet another Anastasia Wilde book I couldn't put down. It had everything, from dragons, shifters, a hate-to-love romance, spice, action, to friendship/family connections (yeah, I wasn't crying, you were! 🤧). The character development hit so hard. There's one more book left in this series, and I'm already halfway through it.
I know that I have said this in most of my previous reviews, but it's worth stating. If you haven't already read the previous series' by this author, I highly recommend that you do prior to beginning this series. It's not necessary, but it will give you the full experience of all of the awesome crews, and they're all absolutely fantastic stories that you will love! Start with the Silverlake Shifters series, and then read the next series as listed in each book. They're all definitely must read books! This story was heartbreaking, emotional, humorous, suspenseful, and best of all was the beautiful HEA that was beyond deserved for both of them. I love that these dragons are finally getting their own stories, and that they include all of my favorite characters from the previous stories! I'm really looking forward to the next book, and I would love to see so much more from this series! I would definitely recommend this book, series, and exceptional author.
BTW, I'm still waiting for the "Dragon Boy's" story from the Wild Blood Shifters series! I really hope that he'll get his own story &/or series soon! Thanks for sharing your amazing stories!
Zek and Maddie are a strange pair. She is the scientist that made him into a monster or is she? Maddie was lied to told that shifters were mindless killing machines. That the turned innocent people in to mindless killers like themselves. But once she made nice with the monster inside of Zek . Maddie learned that shifters are just like humans with families, friends, kids and jobs. They just wanted to be left alone. Zek was such a broken and damaged dragon from the years of slavery and abuse. He had a clan but still didn't feel a part of them.I loved the way he was with Princess Kendra and his love for the kitten Princess Diane. It was too funny how he became a big soft marshmallow of a dragon when it comes to them two. It was great that Eron, Bad blood crew and the Silver lake wolves came to save Zek , Maddie and Maddie's sick brother Troy. Its nice that even the grumpy and sarcastic dragon can find a true mate. One red dragon left to find a true mate
I think what I love about these series is that they are not seperate in that the characters know each other and will help each other through anything. More than the shifter or the sexy love scenes, it is the loyalty between each group and the members of each group. They will always drop everything to protect, defend and help each other out of the kind of friendship, love and loyalty that most of us ordinary mortals would do well to learn. In this book, Zak, always the stroppy, bad tempered outsider, not really recovered from his years as a slave, has been injected with a substance that puts a monster inside him and believes everyone in the clan hates him, finally realises that all is not as he thought, and everything he thought was not for him, as part of the clan, actually is, and that everyone loves him after all.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "RED DRAGON'S HEART". I love the Darkwing Dragon Series each of the Dragons & their tortured souls being used as lab rats experimented on & finding their way after being rescued. Zak & Maddie's story was an excellent read his grumpy personality but inside a bit mushy especially around her kittens Princess Diana & Grayson but wouldn't let anyone see that side of him but she could see it. Zak Kidnaps Maddie so she can fix him after veing shot with her serum while rescuing Dragons from captivity. Zak is such a tortured soul but his Dragon & the monster both say Maddie is their mate just need to convince Zak. King Emon leader of Al-Maddeiri Clan takes Zak & Maddie to their world to keep her safe from Eric Chisholm & the Shifter Council until she finds out Troy her brother was kidnapped by Eric. I definitely recommend to get this riviting, thrilling adventure so much happens love Zak & Maddie their chemistry is scorching hot who's mate is she the monsters or Dragon's the surprising ending will blow you away. I can't wait for next book in this series "Mikah's Story" it was so great to have Bad Blood Crew, Silverlake Shifters & Enforcers in this book love all these guys. Anastasia Wilde never disappoints her books are awesome always a pleasure to read.
Zakerek has had a hard, sad life. He spent years as a slave with two other friends. Now free, he doesn't make friends easily and doesn't plan on finding or even looking for a mate. Especially now that he can't control his inner beasts. During their last rescue mission rescuing shifters in a laboratory, Zakerek was shot by a chemical arrow that is slowly destroying him. He has two animals in his body. One his dragon and one a monster that just wants to kill and destroy everything, including Zak abd his dragon. He fears the monster will eventually take over. Zak is determined to find Madeleine Fox, the biochemist who created the toxin that is destroying him. He will make her fix him, then he will rip her into tiny pieces.
RED DRAGON'S HEART is the fourth installment in the Darkwing Dragons series by Anastasia Wilde. It is well written with never a boring moment, capturing your imagination with action, adventure, humor, and, of course, a little steamy romance. This story can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading the first three books in this series and even the rest of the intertwined stories. You won't be sorry.
I received an ARC copy of this book from the author. This is my freely given and honest review.
I loved the Darkwing Dragons and it so great to get another story in this series. We have met Zakerek (Zak) previously and he has always come across as grumpy and not very nice but now we get his story and learn there is far more to him
Zak has lived a horrid life used and abused in scientific experiments and then sent to slave in the mines and then to make matters worse he is shot by an arrow on a mission and that has placed a monster in his system a monster that is determined to kill everything including Zac himself and his dragon. Hoping to try to save his own life and get rid of the monster Zac kidnaps Maddie the scientist who made the serum that infected him hoping that she can revers What he didn't expect was that not only him and his dragon but also the monster would all shout mate when they met her With danger closing in on them King Emon leader of Al-Maddeiri Clan and a Darkwing dragon offers them refuge but with her brother threatened will Maddie hide or put herself in danger o rescue him. You will have to read to see if Maddie and Zac get a HEA.
Hot damn. This book was so good I read it none stop it's got everything in this book. Action yes. Scorching romance hell yeah. Saving family yes and a man who wants to kill Maddie yes. Not to mention smoking hot red dragon who needs Maddie to fix him. Maddie shoots Zakerek with an anti shifting serum causing him to become an beast fighting his dragon. Maddie needs to save her brother with the help of shifter power. Zakerek captures her to fix him. Maddie took all her data away from shifter Eric who will do anything to get it back. Will they save her brother, stop Eric and fall in love. Well you'll have to read the book to find out. You will love it.
I love the Darkwing Dragons series, not only are these guys so deserving of having their story told (such tortured souls that really need love to help them fully heal)… but these stories also bring so many favourite characters back together again. There are cameos from the Bad Blood Crew, and even the Wild Bloods when they were just kids. The Silverlake Shifters and the Enforcers also make an appearance.
Zak is truly tortured as he now has a monster inside him, making him a danger to the family of his heart that he was just starting to let inside. The woman who can help him, as she is responsible for his predicament, is someone he wants to loathe but turns out she not only hold the secrets to removing the monster but also the key to his heart.
This is a fabulous read, full of action, romance and humour (sweet kittens). As ever, I loved this book and this entire series, and can't wait for Mikah's book.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Girl you know by now that I live for your every book. I loved Zak and how broody and grumpy he “tried” to be, but in the end you can’t fight love, but you will fight to the death if need be to save it and the people you love. Guess what grumpy butt, you got a mate and ur not as grumpy as you played yourself out to be.
I love seeing the little bits of the wild bloods as they grow up through these books. It’s so fun to see their antics with each book and see how Brandon was obvs in love with Kitty even when they were younger!
OMGOMGOMG! If you have been reading the series, you have got to read this book! So much intrigue, excitement, drama, and danger... it even has some chuckles mixed in. Loved it!
Oh Zak got it bad when he met Maddie, it just took him a while to figure it out. And Maddie was too busy pretending to be someone else trying to protect her brother to figure it out that quickly herself, but those two were so right for each other. It finally took Zak getting up the courage to ask for help from his family before he figured out that he was not the bad guy that he thought he was. This was so much fun to read. Both of them trying to save each other yet all it took was their love. I even found my favorite part in the book again ( I resemble that remark) when you read it you'll get it just like I did! I almost jumped up and down when I read that paragraph, love it! It has popped up in a couple of Anastasia's stories and it is totally worth it each time. This story held me in it's grip from start to finish, written by one of my favorite authors. Looking forward to any next installments.
I received a copy of this to read in exchange for this, my honest opinion.
I don't have words to tell you how much I love the Darkwing Dragons. This series brings so many of my favorite characters together. The Bad Blood Crew, along with the Wild Bloods when they were just kids. The Silverlake Shifters and the Enforcers also make an appearance. Then we got Zak, I know y'all remember him. What if the one person you want to see burn in flames, turns out to be the woman that holds your heart. The problem is, he has a wall around it. Maddie can break through it, if Zak will let her. All of Ms. Wilde's books instill the importance of family. Blood or not. Zak will need to make things right with his to secure a future with his mate. And to save her brother. Things aren't always what they seem. This was a very emotional read, full of action, romance and sweet kittens. I absolutely loved it! Once again, this author rocked it. Can't wait for Mikah's book. I received an early copy and this is my honest opinion.
Al-Maddieri red dragon Zakerek’s long existence has been full of suffering, as a slave and as an experiment, over and over and over again. After a short taste of freedom Zak is a victim again, this time he’s shot with an experimentation formula that forces him to share his body with an uncontrollable wolf-like beast. Zak’s plan is vengeance on the scientist that created the formula and a return his dragon.
Scientist Madeline Fox is shocked to find she’s been working a different project than she thought and has been on the run since she was discredited and blamed for shifter experimentation. Wanting to clear her reputation and take care of her ill brother, Maddie devises a plan to get her ex-boss/boyfriend to confess the truth but it’s only partially successful. That’s where Zak steps in. Rating: 4.25stars
Zakerek is a dragon shifter but was injected with a serum that put a monster in him. He left his home to live on Earth so he wouldn’t hurt anyone because he can’t control the monster in him. Madeleine Fox is the biochemist that created the serum that Zak was injected with. Maddie plans to harness the gene that turns humans into animals so their advanced healing can heal her brother who is dying. Zack wants her so she can reverse what was done to him and then kill her. But his monster likes her and wants her to be his mate. His monster doesn’t like anyone. When her brother is taken, Zak and Maddie know it’s a trap but they have a plan of their own. Enemies to lovers. Steamy. Shifters. Zak thinks his people are mad at him and don’t want him around. Maddie blames herself for her brother’s condition. Great story. Might make you cry.
4.5 stars. Entertaining and fun overall. I do recommend reading the other books first in this series as this story about Zak actually starts in a previous series. A couple of things I found a bit silly and it was just a bit too much insta sex and lust with not much romance. The action was good though we don’t get closure with the baddies, especially Larkin. I liked Maddy but just couldn’t fall in love with her, though I applauded her love for her sick brother. Cute about the monster and how that played out, hope we see and learn more about them in future books. Lovely to have the Bad Bloods be a part of this and see the Wild Blood shifters when they are still children/teenagers. I was kindly offered this book for an honest review but chose to buy it.
These series thus far have been amazing!!!! I can’t even describe in words how great your ideas and stories are. It has been a true pleasure reading each book from series to series. I’m at such peace and get lost into each character as if it’s a movie. You’re amazing, the characters are phenomenal and the storyline is great. Continue on with your great work for you have my each day of reading a loving and peaceful day for me. I’m such a happy reader whenever I read one of your books. Wish we could give you more stars and add roses cause you deserve it!!!
This is book four in the Darkwing Dragon series. I did read various books in this series and related books, but out of order. I am enjoying reading about the dragons and wolves plus finding their mates. This book starts with Zakerek aka Zak. During a rescue he was shot by the enemy with an arrow that put a unique creature inside him. Unfortunately Zakerek cannot control this new creature, so he leaves the castle in search of the scientist who created the creature inside of him. His search brings him to Maddie, but Zakerek learns that what he thought is not quite true. There is a happy ending plus more for Zakerek and Maddie. Read On!
Zakerek has been a favorite of mine ... from the first time he was introduced. I love the grumpy-ass dragon. He's super surly, but he's completely loyal to those he considers HIS.
The book opens with the aftermath of getting shot with a serum coated arrow. He's dealing with an uncontrollable entity inside him, and he's tracked down the chemist he holds responsible for his condition ... and hopes like hell she can fix him before it's too late. He's had to cut himself off for everyone, as the creature especially hates other dragons.
Maddie has found herself on the run. Her ex-boyfriend/Boss, Eric Chisholm, turned out to be a royal ass hat, and was using her research in ways she didn't agree with. So, she stole his data, and is working on clearing her name.
I love the way Zak & Maddie's relationship begins in the cafe, when they're unaware of who they actually are. It's just awesome that she totally sees through his gruff exterior.
There's lots of action in this book, from the Maddie's "clear my name" warehouse plan ... to the "Rescue Maddie's Brother" plan.
I love the quick glimpse of the Bad Bloods and Emon's kingdom. Looking forward to Mikah's book next!
I think this is my favorite book yet from this author. There was plenty of romance and action, and I loved the connection Zak and Maddie had right from the start. And then there was the addition of all my favorite supporting characters. It’s the little characters that make a great book even greater, though, and the little ones in this story were just too precious. I received a free copy of this book, and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I love reading this author's supernatural universe. Being back with the Dragons is alot of fun and a bit of drama. I felt so bad for Zak but he got what he deserved (in a good way). Maddie was a good character too. Not as nefarious as you would think at first. There is no real dark actions between captor and captive. I'm excited to see Mikah next. Note: this takes place before the Wild Blood series. The crew are all teenagers here. I was confused by that at first.
If you love dragons, wolves,, family and happy ever afters than you need to read this book!! My favorite line is this "You are the treasure of my heart, more precious than gold.” For a dragon that is saying a lot. This author is absolutely wonderful with the worlds she creates and how she can majestically intertwine the old characters and new into one big, huge, nutty family.
I knew I was going to love this book from the very first page. It is so well written, it just pulls you right in. The story is great, highly imaginative, and the characters are well developed. One other really great thing is that the sexy times are steamy without all the crude talk. Very refreshing! Also, I read this book before 1-3 and enjoyed it immensely without feeling like I was missing anything really important to the story. Really great writing. Definitely read this one!
This is just heart-warming enough and not to a vomit-inducing level. Surprise! Nice wrap-up and I love the whole scientific overview on the magic. I would love to see Maddie find science/magic parallels and invent new formulas/spells. I really wish the writer didn't make such huge leaps in time and could slow down to watch things develope a bit. A well...this way has its own charm.
Zakerek of Al-Maddeiri clan was injected with some type of serum causing a monster inside him. While staking out trying to caught Madeleine the Dr who was the cause of the serum he meets Chrystal who is an employee there. All is definitely not as it appears. But when they both learn the truth can the Dr help him.
Another great work in this series enjoy that the others get to be in the book from the bad blood.
I felt like I had missed something to begin with but I have read everyone of Anastasia books! Poor zak always the protector, never realising how everyone saw him. Than along comes Madeleine and she teaches him what it's like to truly live and not just survive. I love all these series and can not wait for more! I received a free review copy of this book I am voluntarily leaving my honest review
This can be read as a stand-alone, but it is even more enjoyable when the series is read in order. The main characters are interesting and you soon feel like you know them personally. The story sucks you in and you can’t wait to see what happens next. It was wonderful to see characters from other books and they really enhanced the story. What’s not to love about a paranormal romance with Dragons!
This is Zakerek and Maddie's story . Zak appears to have his emotions closed off and when he is after his horrid childhood . Now he is after the bad guys with a vengeance and the one he is ready to flame ? Keep reading !! I so enjoyed this story and series ! Well written and recommended to all PNR lovers !
I was given this ARC and enjoyed it so much I wanted to leave a review .
