Todd Love's collection of short stories engages the imagination and covers a wide range of ground. Magic, monsters, nature, sentient houses and the gamut of human emotions are all encapsulated within these pages. This is a creative and diverse volume that will chill and immerse any reader of horror through its entirety. Especially that final story...

Tortured Tales is here to show us that Todd Love is a heavy hitting author that is here to stay. This short story collection strays from the extreme horror of Platinum Blondes, in favor of more traditional horror in all shapes and sizes. My favorites include Quarters (a 2020 Crystal Lake Publishing Top Ten Finalist), Ringmaster, Heir, and White Out. Each of these stories shows readers that Love is a well rounded author, capable of writing campfire stories, quiet horror, indigenous horror, and emotionally charged horror.

If I had to pick only one story to have everyone read, it would have to be White Out. It’s just such a powerful short that resonated with me on a personal level. Having had my first child myself in November, Paul’s struggle to survive just to meet his new born really struck a cord with me, and it really made me sympathize with his plight.

Tortured Tales is a phenomenal first book that I hope will find it’s way into the hands of all fans of horror.

As a debut collection of horror shorts, this was brilliantly done!
Within the pages of 'Tortured Tales', you will uncover a diverse buffet of entertaining horror stories which will take you through the emotional ringer!
My absolute favourite of the bunch was 'Quarters', a beautifully written tale of terror about a video arcade, which took me back to my youth.
A great taster of the author's talent, which has left me hungry for more of the same.

What a great collection of stories although warning one will break your heart. Thanks Todd for making me cry after you scared me.

All in all I really enjoy Love’s writing style. Despoiler was my favourite story by far but they all had their own merits.

If you’re looking for short strange creepy reads this is the book for you.

I really enjoy Todd's writing, I don't normally like short stories(although that is changing rapidly) but Todd has done it again! He has kept me entertained from start to end of this book!
A great range of short stories showing Todd is more than capable of writing great horror of any kind!
My faves were 'Quarters', 'Heir' and 'White Out'
I was shocked, horrified, amused, and heartbroken with these stories!! Fab!!

I loved these short stories. Several of them I was sad when ended. I wanted to read more. I don’t want to spoil the stories so I won’t say anything about them but this book is a must read.

I have read all of Todd Love's work so far. All of his work is great. Great collection of tales. Really liked Quarters. Not a bad story in this collection. Also be sure to check out Love's work on Godless.

Packed full of stories that reminded me of oldschool Clive Barker, with some amazing descriptions to boot. I especially loved how each story was insanely different than the next; a must with me when dealing with collections.
'Quarters' will now forever be one of my favorite short stories.
Highly recommended.

One particular story really stood out in this mixture of gruesome delights. It was about a funeral, which I know are usually sad times, but in that short story, it made it hilarious.

Some stories were only a few pages long. Others were much longer. It's a fast read.

The intro was written by another author, C Nola, and I didn't know that as I was reading but it mentioned that as the youngest daughter, they were seated between the parents in the front seat. Then I was like 'WHAT? Todd Love is female?' Then it turned out to be another author LOL

Great debut collection

Todd’s debut collection, Tortured Tales, came out of the gate running. I really enjoyed this collection and look forward to reading more of Todd’s stuff.

His stories run the gamut of horror but some standouts for me were his stories, Quarters, Runaway and White Out. White Out in particular pulled at my heart strings and ramped up my anxiety levels as I read it.

Do yourself a favour and check it out.

A great collection of short horror stories for those who enjoy the macabre. Left Behind is my favourite and I'd love to see this as a longer story focusing on the struggle of being 'left behind'. This author has a way with words and is one I'd recommend. I'm looking forward to reading another from Todd Love.

This book is my intro to the writings of Todd Love. Now that it is finished, I'll be returning for more Love very soon! A good mix of tales lie here that primarily seems to center around revenge. At the middle point, I thought some of the stories might connect as the themes were similar but it isn't the case, all stand alones. So if you're seeking some quick bloody reads, give this book a shot!

I really enjoyed this collection of shorts and look forward to reading more of Todd’s stuff.

There's a range of approaches that Todd takes in this collection to stop you from having a good night's sleep, and I enjoyed every one of them.

Well worth checking out.

These ten stories will keep you turning the pages. There's a lot of stuff happening and I loved every single word.
I thought I had picked a favorite, but then I finished the last story and changed my mind.

A softer side of Love than we saw in 2022. Completely enjoyable as always.
