When Taylan Ellis saved the life of the woman who wanted her dead, she unknowingly sparked a chain of events that promises to reawaken a war between ancient rivals.
Blissfully ignorant of what she’s done, Taylan has resumed her search for her children in the West Britannic Isles, among the cultish Crusaders, hostile invaders of her homeland. To remain anonymous, she adopts a bizarre disguise and mercilessly plays upon their ridiculous beliefs.
Meanwhile, the global powers are ramping up for a confrontation that will decide the future of humanity. Taylan believes she has said a final goodbye to her involvement in the world war, but her ancestry means she still has a role to play.
The two paths she’s treading are about to converge. If she takes a wrong step, she may never reunite her family and human civilization is doomed.
The Resolute is book four in the epic space fantasy adventure, Star Legend. Complete series.
J.J. Green is a British-Australian science fiction author with a lifelong love of distant landscapes, intriguing cultures and fascinating places. She was born within the sound of the bells of Mary-le-Bow church in Cheapside, London, making her a bona fide Cockney, and she lived in Australia, Laos and Taiwan before returning to the UK to settle down in Cambridge.
Green’s novels weave science-based speculation with richly personal stories. Her works explore themes of environmental degradation, political conflict, mythical resonance, human resilience, and the ethics of technology and expansion. Her characters—often strong women—navigate future worlds grounded in both scientific plausibility and mythic imagination.

Oh my, hold on to your seats! Lots of excitement and surprises in this fourth installment. Major Wright is on the Resolute, a sort of stealth submarine patrolling the coast of Australia. To his great surprise, there is actually action so far from the wars in Europe and the Caribbean: Strange wooden ships smuggling … children?? Hans Jonte is making his way as Joseph Fry, Taylan is moving around as a Crusader fortune teller and seeking information on her two children, Kala Orr is in the hands of the Alliance and has been awakened from her coma (induced by Morgan le Fay), and Lorcan's ships are increasingly ready to carry out their colony mission. Morgan has Perran under her control (boy,he's a real piece of work) and has told him that his mother was killed. So – you can imagine what fireworks happen when these people slowly come together in various situations! Nope, not gonna spoil anything, but I will mention that J.J. Green always has time for examining personal relationships. And also, that a number of issues are resolved but not all! I can't wait for the next book! I received an advance copy and freely leave this honest review.
Who could tell that a combination of Arthurian legend, advanced technology some millennia in the future, mixed with space travel, would be so engrossing?
If, like me you are a fan of these factors, then you are going to love this series.
This is book four and if you haven’t read the first three then I suggest you treat yourself, you won’t be disappointed. JJ Green does refer back to previous incidents from the first three books but I always like to read the full story for myself.
There is so much going on in this book that to try to give a hint of what is happening might give too much away. Suffice to say that all of the previous major characters are still there, including Major TJ Wright, ex-marine Taylan Ellis, Brigadier Colbourn, King Arthur and Merlin. Ua Talman, Dwyr Kala Orr with her son Perran and Morgan also play their part.
Is the future in the stars or re-establishing British rule on earth? - 3.5 stars
We are at a crossroads at which the legends of King Arthur and Merlin may assist Dwyr Orr to regain the British Isles or succumb to Morgan le Fay and the Earth Crusaders or get on colony ships to colonize a distant galaxy.
There is much to read about including child slave labor, enlightened missions to advance mankind in the stars or merely to fight wars with space ships bombarding targets on earth to maintain a cruel dominance.
This is a longish book with many options with the potential for either good or bad. There is a fantasy element, a wish for the glorious past and a desire for doing the right thing all in constant conflict.
One enjoyable adventure is on a small, speedy submersible catamaran that has communication with space ships circling the earth. A small craft leaves to investigate unknown vehicles on the horizon near Northern Australia.
One person's wandering around the western coast of the British Isles that have mostly returned to medieval conditions was nicely done.
The characters have been introduced in previous books. Romance and mean-spiritedness are close to the surface with an escape from imprisonment or death an ongoing factor. The Crusaders, even with a hand from a bevy of spacecraft, want to return to low technology and superstition. There is a lot of warmongering, much of which is based on wishful planning.
This series is so much fun to read!! Things get dark sometimes and there are a lot of heavy topics, but it's all balanced really nicely (in my opinion, obviously). All the POVs are interesting to follow, though the characters are def NOT all lovable. This book especially felt like a few characters had some big moments of realization/development...and idk what to say without spoiling things.
Also, I somehow just now realized the author narrates her own audiobooks and puts them on YouTube (?!), so I listened to this one and it was lovely. I'm particular about accents and voices for characters (actually, I'm kind of irritatingly picky) but I thought this was well done!
I wish I knew more people who lived scifi so I could yell about this series and how much I enjoy it 😂 I've always had a bit of a special interest in Arthurian legend, and I think the blend of scifi with fantasy and mythology works really well for it. I think I've said it in other reviews, but I appreciate when authors write about their inspirations, adaptations, changes, etc in any book but especially something like this. I could've saved my eyeballs from reading a lot of crap if those books had started or ended with the author admitting they based their story on Welsh mythology. You know who I mean, lol.
Anyway, I love this hidden gem of a series and if you think it sounds interesting, please read it and let me know how much you love it too?! *twirls*
THE RESOLUTE by J.J. Green is the third installment in the epic space fantasy adventure, Star Legend series. This is a fast moving, complex and gripping story of different factions fighting to control Earth, remaining resources and the political structure. I recommend this series for all ages that enjoy Space Operas and battle stories.
▪️Taylan Ellis back is undercover as a Crusader trying to locate her children. ▪️The Alliance has woken Kala Orr from her coma with plans for her to cooperate and help end the war. Do they really know the former Dwyr? ▪️Major Wright is assigned to the Australian coast in charge of the Resolute, a small stealth submersible. He soon discovers this might not be the boring assignment he anticipated. ▪️Hans Jonte escaped from Jamaica to the British Isles and risen to a position of Mayor with intentions of working with the Resistance and Alliance to destroy the EAC and hopes of rising back into a position of power.
The biggest surprise is finding out that Arthur might not be on the same page as Merlin.
Taylan and Wright are continuing their involvement in the complicated situation on Earth.
The Britannic Alliance wants to keep Earth as a technological world. The Earth Awareness Crusade is busy taking people back to the Middle Ages. The Antarctic Project is mining and collecting as much of the Earth's resources so that they can head off to a brave new world somewhere in the universe.
Merlin and Morgan are making like hard for King Arthur who is learning that Merlin may not be a real friend.
I love the twists and turns this epic fantasy/sci fi hybrid takes. No sooner do you think something or some event is solid than it turns around and becomes the opposite. War is at its worst, destroying all in its path. A mother grieves and searches for her missing children. Arthur, Merlin and Morgan are still playing their roles in a game no one else sees. Can Earth’s people find a long term sustainable peace? Hold your breath, anything is possible!
I am truly enjoying this Star Legend series. I am not a sci fi reader but I love this series story! I cannot wait to continue with the series to find out more about King Arthur, Merlin, Morgan, the Dwir, Talen Major Wright and others fair in the next "chapter in this exciting and entertaining series! Kudos to J.J. Green and to Boots! ;0) I listened to the audio of this series and loved the narration.
It's basically a space opera with action both in space and on Earth. Good characters and plot. It's well written and has a lot of action. Combines old mythology of King Author and his wizard and his enemy, Morgan, with space wars over Earth. No graphic sexual content and only mild violence. Would recommend for all ages.
Action, adventure, space ships, Arthur & Merlin, romance, this book has it all! This book combines genres to bring another part to this series. It is fast moving and has some interesting twists! Can't wait for the next installment!
This fourth book was as good or better that the previous three. The main characters for the most part were believable. Some of their character traits were annoying, yet that’s how it is in real life! Editing was solid!!
