I need to add to my old review because apparently I somehow wasn't cruel enough in the first draft:
Rayner Teo's book, like his soul, is fucking dog shit. If you read this and think its basic candlestick patterns, baseless claims about trade frequency, and motivational quips are going to help you trade well, just quit while you still have money. No trading book is going to help you become profitable. Long-term profitable trading requires such significant effort and out of the box thinking that no book will help you achieve. The amount of work required to do well in this endeavor will come close to breaking you. But if you instead think you're special and this book is it, you're fucked. Curtains. Dead. Thanks for your exit liquidity.
Worse, if you go to bat for Teo like the two finger-wagging jackasses in this review's comments, you're just embarrassing yourself publicly. Trading is not nice; there's no rewards for kissing ass. If you want actual success, perhaps consider that some of the best public-facing traders in the world (Jason Shapiro, Matt Kenah, Linda Raschke, e.g. people with actual proven track records unlike Teo the fraud) espouse infrequent trading in order to maximize asymmetrical profit potential. Shapiro alone, in his own words, takes only 50 trades per year. And Shapiro, unlike Teo, actually had to demonstrably prove that he's profitable (magnificently so) in order to get into Jack Schwager's Market Wizards book.
Rayner is everything that's wrong with the trading education industry. But I have to hand it to him: he has no shortage of morons willing to pay and publicly support him.
To anyone bristling at any of this: Good fucking luck. You'll need mountains of it and a miracle to boot.
*** Old review:
This book is utter garbage. Not only does it read like a transcribed YouTube video, but some of the advice in here is downright dangerous:
On page 20 Teo says that "If you want to make money every day, you must have a high frequency of trades." This is idiotic. If you enjoy getting shafted by your broker's fee schedule, go right ahead. The rest of us understand basic probability and accounting.
There's many more gems for those curious enough, but writing a longer review would equate to my wasting additional time on this book. Read Brooks, Douglas, and that crew if you want quality trading instruction.
Edit: Seeing the reviews on this rag helps me understand why the failure rate in day trading is so high.
This is a really contradictory kind of a short "book" - more like a few articles from blog posts if you ask me. Firstly, the title is a clickbait and very cliche. The author at the beginning of this ebook mentioned that there are no "Secrets" in trading, which I agree that there is no holy grail in this business. Then subsequently, he went on and titled many of the chapters with "The Secret of.. " and "The Truth of.. " kind of nonsensical headings. Very misleading and definitely appear to me as some snake-oil tactics to garner some newbies into his subscriptions services.
Another thing is most of the stuff in this book are extremely superficial and basic. To the stage where I am flabbergasted to see such a high rating here on goodreads. Way too many fake reviews and ratings at work here. The author have an established YouTube channel. Occasionally he published some decent videos about technical analysis however he is also a great salesman and therefore one of his more apparent business plan is selling people services. In almost every chapter, he linked his website for more "bonus" additional information for readers to find out more aka to pay for his courses.
Granted, the author did shared some basic analogies and anecdotes about the market. But they are by no means "secrets", most are simple knowledge if one is inquisitive and/or be in the market long enough to have realise all the lessons that the market teaches over time. For instance he talked about the four phrases of a market cycle (market structures) and SL hunts by the Big Boys etc.
To sum up, I have nothing personal against the author, in fact I find some of his early struggles relatable and inspirational. However, one still can't deny the fact that this book contains a lot of hot air and some of the marketing tactics used are just like any other gurus who is trying to sell you something you dont need. Watching some of his video is good enough, you can skip this book. 1/5 very overrated.
I think u might be better in advertisement business. This book for only a few sentence that I think useful. , weak of technical. Sorry , but I have to say. Like a baby step for trading. Waste my time. , like u pay for read a beginner journals. Sorry,if I seem rude. But I speaks the true of mine. Kid's staff. I try to kind but I can't when I read it done. come out from Neverland.
I am so wondered why Amazon introduce me this book, useless for me
Book talks about basics in price action trading. Rayner tells everything in his own simple style. Liked the way he explained different stages of trading like accumulation, advancing, distribution and decline. I could identify these stages in my trading and it looks perfect. Good one on sellers and buyers psychology on trading. Good read for beginners.
I found Rayner on YouTube and got a lot of good beginner insights into trading and price action from bud videos. I probably should have stopped there and not gone onto the book. The book seemed very similar to his videos and to be honest, in trading, it’s easier to follow videos (when learning) then reading a book.
Btw, everyone has their own strategy for trading, but I no longer buy into having 582629 indicators on a chart. I’ve found Strat and deviations is the most stress free way to GET THAT BREAD
Price Action Trading has NO Secrets and the author tells you that straight up. Rayner Teo makes it easy to learn his simple strategies of trading. These strategies work for him but also give you the ability to modify them as needed. I like the way Rayner keeps the book light and short, with no extra fluff. He is very transparent that trading is risky and gives you rules to help mitigate that risk and come out on top (in the long run).
It’s almost as precise and concise as a trading notes. The contents are simple and everything is on point. it’s good for me to revise some concepts when I’m facing a losing streak recently. Love it.
A very good concepts that are excellent. I really enjoyed the book. As a beginner I learnt lot from this and I am confident that I am no more be a losser in trading.
You’ll need to have a strong understanding of markets before trying this book out, it’s concise but not beginner friendly. Solid information with good graphics that are sometimes not explained super well, and it does feel like a book written by someone you’ve never heard of who wants you to sign up for his newsletter, but it’s certainly not just an advertisement for himself. There’s just a lack of accessibility, and although I’m fairly comfortable with a lot of trading terms, this one was a little too much for me, but that might be exactly what others are looking for. It’s practical, and judging from others’ reviews, worth the read.
Buy his book, buy his course, watch his “must watch” youtube videos and keep wondering why you are poor. he he
If you still want to believe in learning from youtubers that are making more money from you than from trading and you want to still wonder why you are poor then this book is great choice for you! Better spend your money and time on backtesting and studying real price action. Good luck!
This book offers summarized technical analysis in trading, which gives you a good idea of how you can become successful trader. I feel the book is to the point and it’s certainly capture my full attention and I am really enjoy reading this book. Big thanks to Mr. Rainer for sharing.
This small book from a YouTube influencer packs more tangible and practical advice for a novice retail trader than anything I've gone through (classic trading books, Coursera courses, Yale and Wharton finance courses...). Coupled with his YouTube videos it should help you not lose a lot of money while you develop your trading muscle. Don't dismiss the book because of the clickbait title and golden letters (don't judge the book by its covers) :D One thing that could be better is more flesh in the last chapter - advanced trading strategies .. it feels like the author breezed through that by introducing new terms without adequate explanations and just not providing sufficient explanations for his points.
This is a good book on trading fundamentals, specially for beginners. It's concise and to the point, which makes it very actionable. If you have traded for years, you won't find anything particularly new, but it is definitely a good way to brush up on the basics. I think most of the criticism revolves around the style, which seems conversational and more like a YouTube video, but that's Rayner, and it doesn't take anything from the value the information provides. If you want long and convoluted you can read Al Brooks, which I also think is very good, but not my style of writing. Rayner provides a quick, easy to read guide that will help aspiring traders get started on the right path.
This book was actually excellent at teaching price action trading. Teo gives a really great blend of concept and practical. He incorporates a lot of the best trading ideas into his own philosophy. He shares real information and real trades. This book will make you a better trader. Whether you are profitable is up to you but this is a wonderful foundational text.
Too much about Forex, more in detail on Day Trade and Swing Trade please
This book is an eye opener for a novice stock trader. The triumph of your life saga, is an essential lesson for all men. Please, help me learn more about day trade and swing trade. How can I sign up for your class? I am a novice stock trader, I 'd gained some and lose some with small capital. I need guidance in market behavior.
This book is a good way to start your trading journey because it summarizes trading techniques that work and can be suitable for you.
You will learn about trading strategies and how to implement it. I like Rayner Teo's principles for understanding the "why" behind each approach.
If you want to start your trading journey, this book is just the beginning. You still need to learn more about the basics, such as "What is a candlestick?"
Price Action Trading Secrets by Rayner Teo is a decent guide for traders seeking clarity and simplicity. Teo breaks down key concepts like support and resistance, candlestick patterns, trend following, and risk management. His no-fluff style and practical examples make the book highly accessible, especially for beginners. It’s a concise, actionable resource that empowers readers to trade confidently without relying on complex indicators—a must-read for aspiring price action traders.
A good book to cover the basic principles of trading
Great ideas and strategies to help with my forex trading, some of the ideas I knew from before so I know the ideas and principles here are sound. I added to my knowledge from reading this book. Thanks to my wife for recommending it.
When the author admits that his goal is to sell copies and subscriptions to online courses, you already know that the book is going to be lousy.
I've read +50 investing books, this one is the worst. Extremely poorly written, shallow, written in sentences with double spacing instead of paragraphs, in order to make it to 100 pages.
This book may or may not require some technical analysis knowledge prior to reading, but it is not required. It is a good book to learn price action trading. Do not expect to become a pro after reading this book. It will serve as part of your learning journey. I recommend this book for new traders.
Good book with clear explanation of price action approach
The author is doing a good job in explaining how to apply the price action trading approach with real trading examples. The last chapter is very inspiring and provides great motivation in pursuing this not easy endeavour. Good luck to everyone who tries to master this path.
So many promise so much with extraneous jibber jabber. With this book, Rayner Teo offers an excellent and honest entry into trading. From here you can find your foundations upon which to grow.
Clear, concise, insightful and actionable with plenty of chart examples to lock in the concepts being taught. No fluff or get rich nonsense. Very pragmatic. Glad I purchased this one.
That’s book was a quick read but jam packed with information for all levels of trader. One thing that I’ve struggles with is how to tell the flow of the market and the author has a whole chapter explaining how to do just that.
Well explained concepts with examples. More importance to concept rather than strategies, which I didn't find from other trader's. Planning to read again to make notes this time.
