Bad boys break hearts, but I'll make sure it's not mine.
After my nightmarish past, starting fresh should be a dream come true. But when my father’s death leaves me on the run, I have no choice but to seek shelter with the only family I have left. An uncle I’ve never even met.
My uncle has a bad attitude and pack of friends that remind me far too much of the toxic life I left behind. Cruel, sexy Kai Stone is the worst of them. Occasionally, when the moon is high and full, I swear there’s something even beastlike about him. A monster who thrives off the mayhem and chaos that surrounds him. But no matter how hard I fight it, something about him tugs at my very soul.
The worst part is, I have a secret. And when Kai discovers it, I have to convince him to let me stay. Worse, I’ll have to trust him. And make him trust me.
Because I know he’s keeping something from me as well. And when I learn the truth, it will change everything.
If there’s one thing Kai refuses to allow, it’s outsiders.
Too bad neither one of us knows how to resist a bad idea.

Not an intriguing story for me. Spent way too much time with unanswered questions. You can only use the "for you own good" line so many times until I am over it.
This started off very interesting but then slowly fizzled out. By that I mean after I hit 40% the book was unmemorable and I started counting down the minutes for it to end. The major cliffhanger also didn't help things. When I finally got to the end I just couldn't be bothered to care about what was going on. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I wanted the exciting story that was presented right off the bat and not the slow and grueling story with absolutely no answers that it ended up becoming. I won't be continuing on to the next book.
The narration was fine. There were no weird noises in the background and the characters (for the most part) were distinguishable from each other.
OOh...♥︎♥︎♥︎ Shifter romance lovers are sure to love this one! It was just the right balance between spicy and sweet. Our MMC (Kai) is one sexy shifter, and our FMC has a calm strength about her. She isn't feisty or hotheaded like most shifter females.
I listened to the audiobook and it was fantastically narrated!
I would have been okay if everyone was a teenager, not just the heroine…Also it takes forever to start and then there’s a cliffhanger just when the action begins 🥲
Now here is an interesting and creative twist to the wolf sub-genre! Ash grew up with her dad, who was on the run from something she never understood. When he is murdered, his last words to her are to find her uncle - a man she never even knew existed. That premise begins a whole lotta strange and addictive reading fun! From a town full of lone wolves who are on the edge of losing their humanity, to witches and curses and all kinds of craziness that Ash knew nothing about but is suddenly thrown into the deep end with.
The only problem I had was how freaking long it took for the big “event” to happen. The first 20% of the book was can’t-put-down-set up for the big thing. But then the next 70% of the book is just anticipating it. I found myself jumping ahead to read it just because I was so tired of dangling along… then I went back and filled in from there. :)
I always do this to myself. I read a book without checking first to make sure more books in the series are out first before I read it 🙄 Now I’ve finished this book and am left with such a major cliffhanger! I was interested in this book from the very beginning because Ash went her whole life without knowing about werewolves. He father died and then suddenly she accidentally stubbles onto a town filled with werewolves. The kicker is that werewolves aren’t her only problem. There is also a curse that she somehow is involved in and a bookie hunting her down to make her pay for her fathers debt. So much action, mystery, and suspense are filling these pages. I can’t wait to see what happens next for the new little wolf.
This started off great and I was hooked! There was action, drama and a crazy town that drew me in.......and that's where it all fell apart. I was about 43% of the way into the book where the writing took a hit. It became very child like and I don't think I could roll my eyes any harder.
This book is AWESOME!! I had at hard time putting it down!! It’s non-stop craziness and the romance is yummy!! Kai is freaking sex on a stick, bad boy, hard on the outside with a tender heart. I love Kai and Ash!!!! Need to read book two IMMEDIATELY!!!!
I really liked how this book wasn't like the same old stuff that you get from other shifter books. This book is addicting, you can't stop reading. My favorite part is the originality of the plot. This pack isn't the same as many you've read about. You'll get wrapped up and wonder how you got to the end so fast. Ash has had a hard life! On the run, abandoned by the mother, father murdered by a loan shark and now in a small town, with her uncle, where she is hated just for being an outsider. Ash must forge her way forward or get eaten up by this dog eat dog town. And why does she have these strong feelings for Kai Stone when he is such a jerk.
I absolutely loved this book. Heather is one of my favorites and I love her books, but this book sucked me in and I just couldn't stop reading. The storyline will grab you, the characters will become a part of you, and there's just too many potential book boyfriends to choose from. Yes Kai is drool worthy, but there's a couple of in there as well.... and you know it too. The mystery surrounding the town, the curse and what the heck is going on will leave you wanting more and screaming because you need to know. I need to know. Please Heather tell me? I can't wait for book 2 to find out what happens next
OMG that was amazing and I must warn you now about a HUGE cliffy, but don’t let that stop you checking this out, as it is well worth it. This is book 1 in the Lone Wolf series by Heather Hildenbrand and a massive thank you to the author for gifting me the Audiobook in return for a non-biased review. This is the first time I have picked up Heathers work but it won’t be the last as her compelling, thought provoking writing has me hooked and desperate to check out more of her work. For this series, I really want to continue with the Audio version as it was narrated wonderfully by Sarah Puckett, but I will need to exercise some EXTREME patience here, as only the first is on audible. The great news is books 2 and 3 are available on Kindle Unlimited with a 4th coming in April. I may have downloaded the second onto my Kindle already, but I have a few more advance reader copies from other authors I promised I would check out first, so my fingers and toes are crossed that by the time I am done, Book 2 will be available to Audible 😊 A girl can dream 😊
Ash has had a tough life, for as long as she can remember she has been on the run, but her drunk deadbeat father wouldn’t tell her from whom. When she was younger her mum left them, and her father never recovered, he resorted to drinking his feelings and gambling all their money. One night men looking to collect a debt turn up, beat Ash and shoot her father who on his dying breath tells her she has an uncle and he is the only one that can keep her safe. Knowing the men will be back to collect the debt, she seeks out her uncle.
This is a shifter book, so it made me giggle as the welcome she receives from the towns folk where her uncle lives, is reminiscent of the one in the Slaughtered Lamb in the movie American Werewolf in London. If hate a first sight is a thing, well Ash is experiencing it first-hand, in particular from Kai a sexy, broody, tough guy. Her head hates the way he treats her, but her body has other ideas.
With the debt collectors hot on her heals she has nowhere else to go, so has to suck it up. But what are the secrets the people of the town don’t want her to find out? Why do they think she is a spy? Does she have some of her own secrets? You will need to read or listen to find out 😊
I couldn’t put this down once I had started. The clever writing keeps you guessing and wanting to know more. The chemistry between Ash and Kai is sizzling. And watching Ash get closer to her grumpy uncle is heart-warming. As is watching her make friends for the first time in her life.
Top marks 5/5 and I highly recommend the Audio version. Having listened to Sarah’s work before, I knew I was going to like it. But her voice really brought Ash to life for me.
Ash is faced with the death of her father and the loss of her safety in a matter of moments. But she pulls herself up and moves forward in search of the only family she has - an uncle she's never met in a town where she might never be accepted. She spends her days working in her uncle's repair shop and the rest of the time trying to figure out why everyone hates her so much, especially the sexy, broody Kia. If it wasn't for the two unlikely friends she has made, she wouldn't be able to leave home. There are secrets in this town, and as she uncovers each one, her world becomes a more dangerous place for her.
I think this was a fantastic beginning to an exciting series. All of the elements that make up the best of paranormal stories are there - secrets uncovered, beasts in the night, witches' curses, and more. It is nothing like other stories I've read. The heroine has her strengths and her weaknesses, but she's also got friends who contribute sarcasm and wit and who refuse to give up on her. It kept me on the edge of my seat and looking forward to the next in the series.
Ash Langford/Lawson was an emotional wreck! First loan sharks came and killed her dad in the middle of the night, she was battered by them, her dad turned into something she can’t name, the thugs vow to collect her dad’s debt from her and with his dying breath her dad was sending her to an uncle he’d never even mentioned.
Everyone in town, including mechanic Kai Stone, the hottest guy Ash has ever seen, who seems to hate her, warns Ash to leave town. before she gets a chance to meet her uncle. Ash sobs her sad tale to her uncle who asks her to stay but Ash feels stares and animosity aimed at her by everyone else. Ash learns she can’t leave town or even the house!
Hmmm, this reader wanted to enjoy this foundation tale from a new to me author more than I did. To my taste, repetition, grammatical errors, a somewhat sticky flow made for a rough start. A cliffhanger ending, pl/us (my personal pet peeve) the quintessential independent female lead doing whatever idiotic thing to prove she’s a rebel! Rating: 3.75star
At 1st attempt to read this book I was very distraught as only the first 3 chapters downloaded. I couldn't understand why I didn't get the whole book as it should of automatically done so with preordering the book. After 5 mins of panic I decided to remove the book from my device, resent the book via Amazon "Manage Content/Device," and then proceeded to try the download again. At first the book was still reluctant to download so I tried to patiently wait a few minutes more and finally got the full download.
Since I mostly read at night, the above setback cut into a most enjoyable reading experience as I immediately loved Ash from the start, as well as all the fast-paced action.
It took me 2 nights to complete with life getting in the way during the day and my woes with downloading but I knew right away that this was the start of a great new series and now I have to try and wait until October for book 2. Thank you H. Hildenbrand for another fantastic book.
•••NOT for the homophobic, transphobic, closedminded or faint of heart! •••
This series must be read in order. This is the first book. I can't wait to read "Wolf Captive"!
Ash hasn't had the best life... Especially after her Mom walked out on her and her dad. Her father became a drunk with a gambling habit... And he ALWAYS lost. When men show up at their trailer in the middle of the night she fears that the big bad they have been running from has actually found them.. Who are the men and what do they want? What has her dad gotten into this time? Or are they the scary enemy she's been forced to run from her whole life? Why is her father so scared?
***This series is suitable for adult readers who enjoy small town fantasy where nothing and no-one is what they seem with plenty of mysteries, magic and mayhem and a dash of romance :)
I'm intrigued with this story. I am curious about her mark and how they will break the curse. I was kind of frustrated with the whole "for your good" line. How much easier would it have been if they would have just been straight with her from the beginning. I was also curious as to why they didn't bite her to force her wolf out to begin with? Like why is that wrong? I'm curious about the hexeri. I feel like she is probably half shift half hexeri. I like Kai. I'm not usually a fan of I hate you one minute then, and I am all accepting and loving the next. But I felt like his sudden shift was warranted because of the curse. I am looking forward to book 2. I hope I don't have to wait for book 3 to see the curse broken and I hope she is back with Kai soon. I hate when couples only get 1 night before they are torn apart. It just so sad.

I absolutely love this new shifter world that the author has created. A bit of sexy broody shifters, curses, mystery, unstable shifters, fated mates, and two hilarious besties. Good pacing, and the mystery surrounding Ash and the new town she stumbled into is very interesting. I loved Idrissa and Issac. I loved the banter between the two. Made for a few hilarious scenes. The narrator is fantastic, and I enjoyed every second of it.
Favorite quotes:
“Don’t worry. Everyone always tells me I look like a snack.” He winked.
“Yeah, I know. I really should have eaten him in the womb or something.”
It didn’t hurt that I’d pressed myself tightly against the guy who’d proclaimed to hate me then kissed me like I was his oxygen.
Not even sure how i found this book, the author is unknown to me but i was on the hunt for a shifter book and eventually chose this bad boy!!!!!!
As soon as i read the first page i couldnt stop turning pages- it all kicks off at the start and doesnt seem to stop- i loved all the unanswered questions and the characters.... *big sigh* i loved them all; the twins are brilliant and just what Ash needed. Oscar- oh my what a complete babe, he stepped up and had his nieces back and i loved seeing Ash and his relationship grow stronger. Kai Stone........ pause whilst i wipe my drool......... the chemistry and interactions i loved!!!!!! That ending was a killer, thankfully i dont have to wait to carry on to see what is going to happen now.
This book was slow at some parts, but I did enjoy the chemistry between Ash and Kai. Although Kai was a grade A douche sometimes he was also sweet. I can't stand Silas or Drake.... it seems that Silas may be redeemable, which gives me hope. Drake, on the other hand, I wish he would literally drop off the face of the Earth.
I absolutely loved the twins. They were fun characters, especially the brother. I hope we get to see more about them.
This book ends on a cliffhanger with Ash being taken after a night of passion that was obviously too good to be true. While this book is fairly predictable at parts, I will continue reading because I am interested in seeing how the author gets to the obvious happenings.
This book started out intriguing, mysterious personal history added to a secretive strange town. You are just waiting for her to figure out she is a shifter and to of course meet her mate. Unfortunately, what started out well loses its luster about a third of the way in. These characters story continue into a secind book and that might have been to its detriment. The plot seemed to drag and, for me, the quality of the writing took a hit. Phrases were repeated often and all the characters seemed to suffer head injuries as their reasoning skills disappear. Started with promise but unfortunately did not deliver. Author has other series so might check out and see if this is just a one off mistake.
Kai is one of my favorite book boyfriend names! I absolutely love him! He's so sexy and I love the who brooding attitude. They both have so much in common. I suspect it will be a shock for Ash when she finds out who her mother was. I'm 99.9% sure who she is will change her views on her mom! I love uncle Oscar who is so sweet. Compared to her dad he's so much better. More in control of his wolf. The ending and her mothers identity unfortunately I saw coming a mile away. I like it better when I am surprised by a plot twist that hits you out of no where. I will keep reading because I love the characters.
I'm loving this series so far, I've never read anything by this author before and I'm now very thankful I've stumbled upon her work.... Ash hasn't had an easy life and after her father is killed and going on the run to an uncle she's never met things don't get an easier but she makes a few friends that help her understand the new world she's thrown into but when the people her father had them on the run from seemingly catch up to her how will she escape them?
I have no idea but I'll be diving into book 2 immediately to find out 😁😁
“You’re all I see, Ash Lawson. You have been from the moment I laid eyes on you.” He laughed humorlessly. “It’s insane how far gone I am, considering the curse prevents the mating call from ever happening, but here we are. I can’t leave you, and I can’t let them kill you.” - Kai
A complex, deftly woven tale, it will capture your attention from the first sentence and hold it hostage until the last. If you enjoy strong male/female characters in a well written, slow burn paranormal romance, with plenty of unexpected situations, then read on! You will not be disappointed!
I was expecting more but it didn’t quite deliver. The plot didn’t really grip me, but I stuck around for the relationship between Ash and Kai, which ultimately left me disappointed.
The characters were not very developed, in my opinion. It was hard to connect to any of them, even the protagonists, Ash and Kai. The main side characters, the twins, were full of zest and flamboyance, but little else.
The romantic relationship between Ash and Kai wasn’t very believable or captivating either. They went from 0 to 100, which was a bit disappointing. They finally slept together at about the 95% mark and it wasn’t very significant or emotionally meaningful.
2⭐ I started Wolf Cursed with high hopes. The premise had all the elements for a great paranormal read—wolves, mystery, and a bit of that bad-boy vibe. The beginning was strong, and I was really getting into it. But then, around the 40% mark, something just went wrong. The plot started to unravel, and the characters lost their initial appeal. Even though I pushed through and finished it, by the end, I knew I wouldn't be continuing with the series. If someone asked me for a recommendation, this wouldn’t be on my list.
Why is it so difficult to find a good shifter romance book worth reading?
Wolf Cursed is book one in a fated mated shifter romance trilogy that features a sexy bad boy and an engaging plot with multiple twists and turns. This book is a bit darker than a typical paranormal romance as our female heroine Ash discovers her heritage, escapes enraged bookies and lands in town with a secret to hide.
Heather Hildenbrand has created an amazing world and great characters in the Lone Wolf series. I loved the enemies-to-lovers push and pull between Ash and Kai during this book and the combustible chemistry this created. I also thought the secondary characters were well written making me want to read more. Wolf Cursed had a plot filled with questions that Ash wants answers to and mystery that made you want to read more. Warning this book ended on a cliffhanger that had me reaching straight for the next book Wolf Captive.
Wolf Cursed was a captivating read that had me guessing what was next. I would recommend it for readers who enjoy paranormal romance, shifters, mystery & suspense, darker reads, heat & chemistry and sexy gruff bad boys with secrets to hide.
This “new to me” author rally delivered a fantastic story. A girl finds a new perspective during an encounter with a loanshark bent on getting money from her dad. That did not end so well. Now she is supposed to end a curse, but how? It is a fascinating story with characters that will grip you. This does end in a cliffhanger…hate those but I am hoping book 2 is published. Despite the cliffhanger, I want to read more but I would have done that without the cheap trick of a cliffhanger.
She’s alone and has just witnessed her father not only die but turn into a monster right before he was shot. He died protecprotecting her from a situation he brought on himself and he begs her to go to Ridley falls and find his brother Oscar. She’s in shock and does what he asked of her with his dying breath. Now she’s in a town full of people who seem to hate her and tell her she doesn’t belong. But others know the truth. She’s the one who will break the curse! This was definitely a surprise read. I really enjoyed it.
