We chat until my ice cream’s gone. They tell me about their charity work and hobbies. All the Sorensens golf. I limit my hobby list to reading and dancing because I don’t think they’ll be impressed with my ability to craft shivs from household objects.
And with a stolen scalpel at each hip, I’m ready for whoever comes at me next. “Where to?”
My scent is the only thing about me that’s sweet. A smoky caramel that hides my sour personality.
Orion asked for nothing. Gave me everything. And I don’t think I’m ever going to recover.
“What are we?”
“House cats.” My lips fall open. “What?”
“House cats,” he insists. “Kinda cranky and cuddly, and we’ll fuck shit up if you leave us alone too long.”
“That’s not what I mean. What—”
“I know what you mean.” Orion bites the tip of my nose. “You’re my other half. And I’m yours.”
“We’re sorry.” Atlas rumbles. “Don’t do this to us.”
I let the words wash over me, but they’re just noise. Vibrations in the air.
Atlas doesn’t get it.
They don’t get it.
“You’re not sorry.” Not when the apology comes on the same breath as the accusation that I’m doing something wrong.
“You’re a kickass team leader, and there’s no one I trust more to have my back on a mission. But when it comes to the pack, you have the emotional intelligence of a fucking gummy bear.”
Atlas, Finn, Hunter and Jett are a hotter mess than a garbage barge in a volcano, and I’m not volunteering for the same hell cruise as Orion.
Sometimes, I think Finn’s the most unhinged. Then I remember Jett never had a fucking door.
Jett and Finn make a killer team. Not good cop, bad cop but the cold sociopath and the crazy sociopath. They’ll get the info.
“Because when you hurt and you hurt and you hurt, disappearing is better than feeling.”

“Giving you my leash. Use me. Hate me. Punish me. Don’t think you can love me, but I’m already yours. I’ve always been yours, even when I forgot. I won’t forget again. Can’t. There’s nothing left of me but you.”

“You own me. Tell me who to kill. What you need. I’m yours, Lilac.”

“All you have to do is follow your dreams. It’s our job to convince you we’re part of them.”
