Kendall is coming down from a high. Her last art exhibition was a huge success. She has achieved what she’s always strived for. Now the inspiration she needs escapes her. When her agent books her a stay at an Air BNB on Tybee Island Kendall is excited. The warm salty ocean breeze seems like it should be just the ticket to get her out of the rut she’s found herself in. Another side benefit catching up with her former summer fling Riley. Riley owns the local lesbian hangout. Through the years it’s become a home away from home for the ladies who live or visit the community of Tybee Island. Riley’s quick smile and easy wit make her easy to fall for. Three years ago, she had what amounted to a casual fling with Kendall. Even though their relationship has long sense ended they’ve continued texting one another through the years. Both find themselves excited by the prospect of reconnecting. Though Riley is insistent that she no longer dates tourists she’s immediately drawn once again to her former flame. She finds herself falling harder and harder for Kendall. Her perfect woman is right in front of her. Denying her feelings is hard but falling for a tourist could leave her heart broken. As Kendall’s two months draws to a close, she’s torn. The trip brings her more than she bargained for. Deep connections, friendships, and if she’s not careful maybe even the prospect of a new romance.
Just a bit too angsty, in the sense of clear communication getting warped, and feelings also being twisted. TBH I read it, but I really don't feel like I even know much about the MC's. We know they had a fling in the past and remained good friends. But we never learn what attracted them to one another, any real personality. Just lifestyles at odds, one is a bar owner, in a local seaside town that she loves and never wants to leave. One is an artist who was getting more notoriety at the time they split. Artist, Kendall, wanted it to work, but our other MC and bar owner, Riley, did not want to long-distance, at all.
Throughout there's this push and pull, of the two having a steamy connection not based on much - and pining for one another and choosing to be 'friends' but Kendall seemingly is constantly punishing Riley for that fact? It's kinda weird, like they were constantly always at odds, and then twisting back again to the opposite, only to revert back again. I don't find that type of drama amusing, it read very young adult to me, not the 30ish ages they were supposed to be.
There's a black moment, and it was just so tedious and tiring. I found myself sighing and huffing at the predictability of it all. Nothing original here. Very passable IMHO.
A wonderful second chance/slow burn love story! Kendall is a successful artist that visited Tybee Island 2 years ago and had a wonderful loving time with Riley, the owner of a beach bar. However, before she left to go home, Riley said they should just be friends. Two years later, Kendall needing inspiration goes back to Tybee Island, hoping to possibly rekindle things with Riley. I really enjoyed this book. It's a quick summer read! 5 stars!
Sweet book about 2 people meant to be together. It shows both of the main characters POV perfectly as they navigate their way back together! My first book by this author but definitely not my last.
Rylee and Kendall's slow-burn summer romance beginnings with the two women reconnecting at Tybee Island.. Rylee not wanting her heartbroken a second time. She wants the relationship to begin at slow pace as they travel from friends to lovers.
This story takes place at Tybee Island, GA--a quaint town east of Savannah. Kendall is an artist from Memphis, and Riley is the owner of a Tybee Island bar. They met about 3 years before when Kendall was on vacation at Tybee, in which they had a wonderful fling together. Because of the distance, Riley felt the relationship could not endure.
Kendall comes again to the island for a 2-month stay to get her creative mojo back after a tiring art exhibit. While Kendall and Riley have maintained communication by texting, both women are unsure what the time will hold between them and are anxious to see what might unfold. In spite of their obvious attraction and connection, will they both be able to maneuver through the hesitancy and fears? Will Riley's anxieties about relationships sabotage her chances with Kendall? Will Kendall venture beyond her focus of regaining her momentum with her artwork? Read the story to find out.
I liked the story a lot. My main reason for 4 stars was the misspelled words. I would love to see a sequel to Riley and Kendall's story, too!
