2020 Review
the setup…
D. C. Metro Police Lieutenant Samantha (Sam) Holland and husband Vice President Nick Cappuano are enjoying a hard earned dinner party with friends when they’re interrupted by a scandalous news break involving President Nelson. Details regarding his affair with a former member of his campaign has now made the headlines, along with the assertion that her newborn baby is his child. Nick wants this contained and the President to persevere because he doesn’t want the man to resign, forcing him to assume the job. As if that wasn’t bad enough, Sam’s handed a high profile murder case the next day and it’s directly connected to Nelson.

the heart of the story…
It’s hard to define what it is about this series that’s so entertaining but one of the reasons may be the depth of the character development. It’s a big cast but I feel like I know them all intimately. There’s always a thread dangling from past stories that continues to unravel or get pulled. Secondary storylines are an important staple, immersing this reader into a wonderful experience of revisiting people and situations that feel more than familiar. This storyline is a doozy and the murder even more perplexing. What seems obvious isn’t necessarily so and the victim led a complicated life. Participating in the investigation as Sam and her team doggedly pursue clues and leads is another highlight for me as I’m a big fan of police procedurals.

the narration…
Eva Kaminsky owns the voice and personality of Sam Holland and her partner Freddie Cruz. Some of the best scenes are between the two of them and she captures them and the rhythm of their conversations with perfect pitch. I switched to the audio version of the series after #3 and I’ll never go back. She adds too much to the stories.

the bottom line…
Even though I still have issues with Sam’s maturity (or lack thereof) from time to time, I admire her tenacity, courage and deep loyalty to friends, family and colleagues. This series will always be a high priority on my reading plans as the characters and stories remain fresh, intriguing and interesting. I hated reaching the end of this one.

I’m a huge fan of the Fatal series, and Sam and Nick are one of my all time favorite couples.

Fatal Accusation was actually a perfect book to enjoy more Sam and Nick time.

The book picked up only two weeks after the last one ended, so emotions are still high from Sam’s father’s death, but everyone is rallying and coming together.

Overall the book had everything I loved about this series, lots of time with my favorite characters, great banter, chemistry, relationships that matter, and some tensions about Nick’s future.

I love how happy Sam and Nick are with their patch-work family.

It’s one of these series that leave me wanting more, more books, longer books, just MORE!

The narration was EXCELLENT!!! It’s one of the BEST in the market, nuances, voices, sarcasm, it fits the character to a T. Listening to a Fatal audiobook is a real pleasure. And I couldn’t say what I love more, reading it myself or listening to it. Either way a new Fatal book is a highly anticipated moment of my entire year.

Well, as I said in my review of the previous book: this book is too much repetitive and gushing!

We get to see how much Sam and Nick love each other; love their kids; how much each secondary character love their own love interest; how much all the good guys/girls are revolted by infidelity...
Honestly, it was just too much!

As I understand the police work, they got to see some of the worst parts of human beings, so I suppose that they wouldn't be so upset about what happened here, but here they are appalled so much! It was just so unbelievable!

OK, I suppose that the President's infidelity is something that would make news (see what happened with Monica and Clinton!), but they were continuosly telling us "how could he do it?", "how could he betray his wonderful, supportive wife?"...

We're living in a moment in history where divorce and infidelity is almost an every-day event (however deplorable, but it's a fact!), so it was highly unlikely that it would distrub the detectives in that way!

Also, the explantion of "who did it?" was too simplicistic...

I'm really sorry, but this doesn't deserve more than 2 stars... I'm deeply disapponited... :(

I usually know Miss Force works for romance. In Fatal Accusation, it is actually more detective story. There is small portion of romance in it. The POV is a thrid person and more from Sam's. I did not read the previous book. So I am not too familiar with Sam and Nick relationship.

In Fatal Accusation, Nick is more in the background. Even with that I can tell that Sam and Nick romance is epic. I love how they get each other back.

I usually read romance with a bit of suspense in it. And it tooks me by surprise to learn I enjoy Fatal Accusation very much. Miss Force have such talent as romance and detective story.

Cue the happy sighs...Nick and Sam... Samantha and Nicholas...

description

Scandal and murder are on the agenda as Sam and Nick each deal with the after effects of the President being unable to keep his little Commander in Chief in his trousers, all whilst coming to terms with events we’ve witnessed in previous books bubbling away as well as wrangling a house full of kids and secret service agents. And, with an abundance of red-herrings and romance, they’re as strong as ever.

description I’m always happy to hear from my favorite VP.”

Fifteen books in, plus a couple of novellas and this series firmly remains one of my favourites out there.

Shocking news of President Nelson's affair with a former campaign staffer breaks during a dinner party attended by Metro PD Lieutenant Sam Holland and her husband Vice President Nick Cappuano. Accusations that Nelson fathered a child - all this as his beloved wife secretly battled cancer - infuriates his colleagues and the public. Calls for his resignation are rampant and the last thing Nick & Sam want to hear. To make things worse, a murder investigation lands on Sam's desk with links to the President, and she's not sure who to trust anymore. If she and her team aren't able to solve this case quickly, hopefully clearing the President's name, her new address could be 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

One of the best things about following a continuing series is getting to know reoccurring characters like family. It's always great to catch up with them, follow their development, and see what's happening in their lives. It's one of the things I love most about the Fatal series. Force does a fantastic job with character development and the weaving of plot threads from book to book. The next book picks up right after the previous timewise which lends a steady flow of story from one book to the next. I've had issues in some of the recent books with Sam's display of extreme immaturity given her position as both Second Lady and a police lieutenant, but I'm happy to say it's not a problem in Fatal Accusation. Sam's courage, gritty determination, and just plain doggedness (a dog with a bone comes to mind!) is evident in this one. In fact, this book is my favorite of the series in quite some time.

A strong sense of family in every sense of the word shines through in Fatal Accusation. The story is personal, intimate, and believable - brimming with tension and emotion. I have to mention that this is my first audiobook of this series, and the narration by Eva Kaminsky is excellent as it brings these characters to life. I will be listening to all future releases in the series. Force has written another well plotted story, tugged on past storylines, and charged her main characters with getting the job done. A fantastic addition to a great series. Highly recommended.

I fear I am getting bored with this series. Wash, rinse, repeat - same old same old here for Sam and Nick... yeah, yeah, they love each other and have the seemingly perfect life but, jeez, it gets a bit repetitive after a while. I know the next book has some major turning point or big reveal in it - I am sure I will see a spoiler if I don't read it soon but I am not forking out $9 for a book in a series that isn't really doing anything for me ... the same thing has happened me with another long series ... anyway Ms Force has plenty of fans here that my two cents won't make a bit of difference to her selling power.

It took me nearly two weeks to finish it, which is never a good sign ... Probably 2.5 stars, but "three stars" meant I liked it and, honestly, I didn't ...

Sam and Nick are at a dinner party at a friend's house when breaking news interrupts their night out. President David Nelson had an affair with his campaign staffer Tara Weber. Even worse, Tara is now claiming that her newborn child was fathered by the President. Both Nick and Sam are hoping it isn't true. Nick is the current Vice President, and he really doesn't want to move up if the President resigns or is forced out of office. To make matters worse, a few days later Sam is given a homicide case that has ties to President Nelson.

I thought this was a lackluster addition to the series. There wasn't a lot of story to this one. Most of it was repetitive phrases and storylines. We kept going over everyone's reaction to the President's affair and the fact that the First Lady is "so nice". We also had Sam's grief over losing her father, her threats of using a rusty steak knife on several people, and Nick and Sam putting the kids to bed and how lucky they are to have them in their lives. I hope the next book in the series has a little more originality. My rating: 3 Stars.

This was a fantastic book to listen to with half my brain tied behind my back. In other words, I was stuck in softball games and soccer matches and only listening with a half focus and I got the plot with no problem at all. Since at least a third was redundant repetition of the past story lines and sex scenes it was a great book to listen to with a split focus. Eva Kaminsky as narrator made this so-so tale come to life. No presidency ever, except maybe in a third world country, has survived what Force wants us to believe has happened to this one. A cabal running the country for a president with dementia is more believable. So, set aside reality and skip the redundant and sex parts and the murder plot wasn't bad. How Sam figures it out is pure Force bending reality to her own will.

Sam is slowly coming to terms with the death of her father, Skip. She has a job she loves, her loving husband, VP Nick, and the adopted son and foster kids to give her life meaning and balance. What she absolutely doesn't need right now is another White House scandal. But when news breaks that the President engaged in an affair while his wife underwent cancer treatment the brown stuff hits the fan. And, days later the mistress turns up dead after having delivered a baby boy. Mondo piles of brown stuff are flying. Sam soooo does not want Nick to be President and he isn't keen on that idea either, mostly because of the upheaval it would cause Sam. So, Sam is on a mission to solve this murder and prevent her relocation to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Ugh I hate to give this book that but as the stars say, it was ok. I love this series but this book did not do it for me. It was extremely repetitive and drove me nuts with that. I know I am in the minority. This is a high priced kindle book for me and for the author to go on and on with characters talking about the same thing...I was like am I reading a Kristen Ashley book? At least she prices her books lower!! But seriously I wanted to stab myself with her rusty steak knife by the end! It was said so often that there was a part in the book where she said she wanted to stab someone and in my head I was like let me guess with her rusty steak knife? And then there was the vasectomy conversation over and over. I actually couldn't wait for the book to be over, which is never the case with this series. I even had issues with Sam too which usually I enjoy her antics, usually she comes of as confident and badass-ish but this book she just seemed cocky and an ass. Usually there is suspense and this one fell flat. I felt like with all the men the victim was with there was going to me more of a story there then she just went off the rails, like blackmail or she was being paid to cause a scandal to the president. I really didn't like it much but since I liked hearing from Nick and the kids it was just ok.

Coming in December 2019 is Book #15 in Marie Force's "Fatal Series." And this series is still going strong -- never ceasing to capture my attention and heart. "Fatal Accusation" is a powerful story with an edge-of-your-seat crime for Sam and her team to solve, as well as moving continuing storylines forward. Another installment hit out of the park! Although I pretty much guessed who the bad guy was from the moment he was introduced in the book, it was still a good police procedural with some red herrings tossed in! For anyone that likes this series, you will love this addition - guaranteed!

5 stars and 2 thumbs up!

From the Blurb: A deadly serious affair...

The story breaks as Metro PD lieutenant Sam Holland attends a dinner party with her husband, Vice President Nick Cappuano: President Nelson is accused of having an affair. More shocking still, campaign staffer Tara Weber claims the president fathered her newborn son - while the First Lady was undergoing secret cancer treatment.

When a high-profile murder case hits Sam's desk, she's shocked to uncover a connection to the presidential scandal. With the department caught up in its own internal scandals, and the chief's job hanging by a thread, Sam questions who she can trust as her team uncovers information that clouds an already-murky case. And with calls for the president to resign getting louder by the minute, Sam needs to close this case before she finds herself living at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue...

Merged review:

Where else can you find as much scandal? Why Washington D.C. of course! Sam is still recovering from the loss of her father and best friend, when news is broken about the president's infidelity, and the woman who he dallied with has been murdered. Will Sam and Nick be moving into the White House? Lots of twists and turns, the odd red herring, and angst!

Two thumbs up and 5 stars!

Fatal Accusation is a cracking read, and quite honestly, I didn't imagine this series could get any better. But boy was I wrong, as Sam and Nick return to face another crisis in the administration, and the increasing likelihood of Nick becoming President.

Whilst Sam, still reeling from Skips death deals with a murder that has the potential to cause monumental consequences for both her and Nicks careers. As well as coping with the fallout from the investigation into her dad's shooting, the arrest of her colleague and dad's close friend Conklin and the end of the trial of former lieutenant Stahl.

And so, Fatal Accusation was not only extremely difficult to put down. But it was fast-paced, exciting, entertaining, and intriguing. And basically everything you would expect from a story written by Ms Force and featuring Sam and Nick, and quite frankly, I couldn't get enough; and the bonus epilogue at the end really was just the icing on the cake!

Would definitely recommend.

Emotional, and busy. There was a lot going on with birthdays, weddings, secret babies, affairs, murder, and dealing with events in the previous book, several previous books actually. This series is quite a soap opera and this book upholds that tradition. I enjoyed it, but it was a bit much at times. It was interesting to see what might happen to Nick politically though the constant teasing is irritating. Force needs to either follow through or end the series. Not that I want to see the series end but Force is writing herself into a corner. Still, a good story and solid addition to the series.

REVIEW: 4.5 stars--FATAL ACCUSATION is the fifteenth instalment in Marie Force’s contemporary, adult FATAL romantic suspense series focusing on Lieutenant Samantha ‘Sam’ Holland, and her husband US Vice President Nick Cappuano. FATAL ACCUSATION can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion as some of the events are as of a direct result of events in earlier story lines.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Sam and Nick) FATAL ACCUSATION follows Washington DC, Metro PD lieutenant Sam Holland as she is tasked with investigating the murder of a woman connected to the most recent scandal linked to US President Nelson. President Nelson is no stranger to scandal but the fall-out of accusations by a campaign staffer could end his career in politics, as well as his marriage to his beloved wife. Sam Holland struggles with the knowledge that if President Nelson steps down, she and her husband will assume the role as President and First Lady, a position to which neither one is looking forward. As Sam begins to dig deeper into the murder investigation all clues point to the powerful elite, with more than one possible suspect on the horizon.

Meanwhile Sam’s private and personal h*ll wants a face to face but Sam struggles with what was, and what will never be. Betrayal hits hard, and our heroine battles not to crawl into the abyss when the truth about the who and why is slowly revealed.

Marie Force pulls together a colorful and energetic cast of secondary and supporting characters including Sam’s feisty partner Detective Freddie Cruz whose one on one banter is straightforward, animated and real , as well as a host of other co-workers and law enforcement who help make Sam’s life a little easier.

FATAL ACCUSATION, in some aspects, mirrors a little bit of the current US administration in that the honesty and transparency is missing and lost. Marie Force pens a startling, thought provoking and sexy story of betrayal and vengeance, heart break and love. The premise is dramatic and engaging; the characters are dynamic, charismatic, raw and inspiring.

This is the first Fatal book that truly frustrated me. I loved the story and still love the characters, but I think the editing really did this one a major disservice.

I understand that in a series you have to, on occasion, provide some background summaries, but you need to find a better balance where you don't bore your regular readers. This book spent far too much time providing background on every character and every storyline. Far too much. I finished with the feeling that I got perhaps 5 chapters of a new story and a reread of books 1-14 in the remaining 10.

And if I never hear if a rusty steak knife again.....

Got to say, politics is such a dirty game. I really wish we have someone like Nick in the Oval Office though, that'd be really cool. Even though we know that he doesn't really want the top job.

Sam is still going through the stages of grief following her father's death and I liked that she's portrayed to be a bit off her game during the investigation of the death of a woman who've had an affair with the President during his campaign.

All in all, another solid addition to the series as we continue to see the growth of the various characters.

Sam and Nick are always great!!

Even as a definite non-romance reader, I can hardly wait for each Fatal book to come out. I absolutely love the characters and feel invested in their stories. Fatal Accusation did not disappoint as a new crime unfolded which included the White House drama! Also the bonus epilogue was so sweet!

They keep coming and coming and are still highly entertaining and very good. I do hope there won't be another Nelson scandal because I think two are enough and we will see if President Nelson really can hold on to his presidency until the end of his term. I'm not sure I like how less Nick cares for ever being president as he would make one of the best, so I really hope he changes his mind in the future. With all what is going on in the Washington PD, I feel like Sam could need a change of scenery and that it might change the setting of the series but it would also bring new possibilities. After bringing the twins in their lives, I feel like Sam's priorities have changed a whole lot and while she still loves her job, it's no longer her priority like in the first few books. Let's see what Marie has in stock for us with the next books. I'm curious what happens with Gonzo and I wouldn't mind getting rid of Ramsey but after the final goodbye to Stahl, where would we find another villain so it seems we are stuck with him for the time being (grrr).

Book 15 and thank god there is no end in sight. Marie's note in the end is promising more books and with the bonus epilogue and Shelby's secret I don't want it to end - ever. As long as Marie is delivering such great work, she can continue forever. Thank you for another entertaining read which I award full 5 stars.

Favorite series continues

This is one of my all time favorite series (being over 50 years old I've read thousands of books too). The murder was intriguing and suspenseful as Sam and the rest of her squad try to find a killer who strangled a loving mother. The police procedures are interesting to follow along. Sam and Freddie have some good banter scenes. They're all still learning to cope with their lives without Skip Holland. The book leaves me wondering what Ramsey is up to and what will happen with Gonzo.

The Fatal series is one of the best in the romantic suspense genre, with the same couple throughout all the books.  I love the various characters who have been developed in their circle of family and friends.  The point of view is primarily Sam's, who is a homicide lieutenant in Washington DC.  Her father used to be Chief Deputy but was shot four years ago and died two weeks prior to Fatal Accusation.

I don't think this is the best place to start this series. There are various scenes which are following up on the cases of her father's shooting and also her own kidnapping.  And there's no reason not to enjoy the whole series!

The new case is a political hot potato as it involves the murder of a woman who had an affair with the President. I continue to feel slight disconnection to Nick as we rarely get his thoughts, more his dialogue.

Sam works the case to track down who murdered this woman. In spite of the victim's various poor decisions, she didn't deserve to be murdered.  I love Sam's instincts and skills in interviewing witnesses and following evidence to leads. Nick is an amazing husband and support; her children are precious.

Internal scandals and issues within the department continue and there is likely more on tap for the future.  Sam also gets the go ahead to start her survivor grief support group, which is a worthy project.  And there is always the possibility Nick will end up as President. Someday.

Narration:

Eva Kaminsky feels natural to me as Sam, capturing her emotions and humor well.  Her male voices were unusual, almost softer or higher than the females.  The characters do have distinct voices. I do really enjoy listening to the series on audio. I was able to listen comfortably at my usual 1.5x speed.

Wash, Rinse, Repeat! I like Marie Force’s style of writing about multiple plots and/or characters. It keeps the story fresh and interesting. But in this series she hasn’t been doing that as much choosing to focus on Nick and Sam, well okay but she probably could have stopped at book 10 or book 5. Do we really need 15 books about a cop politician’s great love affair? This has made for a very boring and predictable read.

Fatal Accusation
2 Stars

When the news breaks that President Nelson has engaged in an extramarital affair with a political advisor and fathered a child with her, all of Washington is flabbergasted, including Vice President Nick Cappuano and his wife, Lieutenant Sam Holland. Then, the woman, Tara Weber, is found strangled in her apartment. Did the president have her killed, or is the culprit one of the other men in her life?

Series note: This is book #15 in the series. Due to ongoing character development, the series should be read in order.

Unfortunately, this series has gone from bad to worse. Force has proven herself to be a good writer, so the verbatim repetition of conversations and plot points is disappointing. In fact, without these, the book could have been 200 pages shorter. The rusty steak knife joke is funny the first time, but becomes obnoxious by the 6th or 7th mention.

The mystery surrounding the murder of the president's former mistress is very intriguing. However, the heavy-handed foreshadowing and slut shaming trope undermine an otherwise compelling storyline. Nevertheless, there is a good twist at the end.

The ongoing characterization has only become more ridiculous from book to book. Just how many corrupt cops can one police department have? In the real world, most of the officers, including Sam and some of her team, would have been fired long ago.

Speaking of Sam, I have had enough of her self-entitled and unprofessional behavior. The episode where she . She has to be them ost unlikable heroine in any RS series I've read.

The next book is the final installment in this particular series, and it will be my last. From the description of the sequel series, it is more of the same nonsense. No more!

Whew! This was really jam-packed with a lot of mystery, scandal, intrigue, and tension. Of course it goes without saying that Sam and Nick are a powerhouse couple.

I could have read this in one sitting and it seems like there's no rest for this series as a lot of possibilities are there when it comes to the supporting characters.

I guess that's how Marie Force writes her stories; she has this way of attracting and captivating the reader until said reader is immersed in that world.

We see more of Dominguez and Carlucci, her night-shift squad and it's a good realization of giving them credit and letting them shine like their day shift counterparts.

There's a lot of love spread around here despite the heinous crime committed. I also like the witty and humorous banter between Sam's long-lost brother, Freddie, and how they handle uncooperative receptionists.

Reading a book in this series is always a treat!

#15 in the Fatal mystery series

While Sam is still dealing with her father's death as well as the case against Stahl, she and Nick get even more stressed when the President is accused of having an affair and fathering a child. Will he have to resign, putting Nick in the White House? But Sam muscles through, keeping on the job to discover how the woman in question (now dead) was killed and why. As always, Sam and Freddy work together well, with plenty of bickering and sarcasm. I love watching Sam and Nick as they interact with the kids--all of them fitting in together as a well-integrated family. There's plenty of romance between the two of them, with their love showing clearly. The cop shop is also in a mess because the chief is being blamed for the crimes committed by the top brass in Skip's death, so Farnsworth has a fairly large role this time. I still don't understand why Sam has to be so rude in order to get things done. She loves to throw her weight around because she's "so busy," but she seems to go overboard. Having been a receptionist myself, I often feel their pain when she berates them--they're just doing their jobs and Sam is tough on them, unnecessarily IMO. The book starts with an entertaining dinner party with Harry and Lilia and ends with a lovely scene with Avery and Shelby at her birthday party. As always, Eva Kaminsky does a great job of narration.
